Room okay but a bit shabby and dated. TV didn't work. Free wifi. Hot water in shower, and room nice and warm to sleep in.
Continental breakfast was good, but no other eating places nearby.
Next time we would stay in Pitlochry.

Nice guest house in a small village.
Nice drive up on small windy road up from Pitlochry.

It was great to meet Linzi and Ralph who were very hospitable, we had a few drinks in the well stocked bar and breakfast was self service Continental.

We were the only guests on this day, so plenty of space and nice and quiet.

The bathroom was clean, and the bed sheets were clean, with a lovely smell even in the morning. Heating was on all night, so it wasn't cold in the morning, and after skiing at Glenshee, that warmth was lovely. The fireplace downstairs was so good, and we had a nice chat and watched TV. Great breakfast, and we also had dinner. I got lovely lasagna. The breakfast room looks lovely with a lot of paintings. Books are around, and a lot of small details. It is a new ownership, so they are really working hard to improve the place, and overall, we were so happy there. We would strongly recommend the place and hope to come back again.

The room and bathroom (2 adults, 2 kids) were quite spacious and very clean. Water pressure was excellent. comfortable bed. Hands down, the thing we loved most were the two gentlemen staff/bar tenders in the main floor bar. I mentioned to the first one that I just wanted to see highland cows- he called up a friend and sent us down the street to a local farm for an up-close. The second one gave us many great tips and suggestions for our travels. We loved sitting in the spacious bar area each night and just meeting and chatting with friendly locals and travelers alike. That was exactly the experience we wanted. Only small complaint was a finicky toilet (took a few tries to get flushed but always worked). We would come back in a heartbeat. Hopefully they will have a full kitchen up and running soon (sounds like that’s in future plans)- that would be the one big plus since there is really only one other place in the town to eat.

A great place to stay near the Snow Roads.

A good base if you are exploring the Snow Roads of Cairngorms National Park. Easy checkin and a spacious room. Free water and basic breakfast is provided which is an added bonus.

The only "complain" is the wavering toilet seat but it is not a big issue.

Avoid at all costs!

The hotel was filthy! When we arrived it was unclear where to check in so we went through to the bar. The carpets were covered in dog hair, the whole area was grubby and smelt of wet dog. The lady who checked us in showed us to our room, again up a dirty, grubby staircase and down a dark corridor. The room was cold and dirty and the bathroom as well. The toilet didn’t flush properly. There was a pain covered step ladder left in the room as well as a gun cabinet! We could not bring ourselves to actually stay so we left. As we passed the dining room where we would’ve had breakfast, there were plates and cutlery on the floor along with table cloths - this wouldn’t have been bad if they were just setting up the tables but the floor, like everywhere else was covered in dog hair and dirty and there was a dog roaming around.

I thought the place was very run down and especially for the price it cost. Breakfast was terrible. Toast was rock hard and egg was raw. Saw a flea jump on me at one point in the room. Would not ever stay here again.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. The hotel was filthy and way outdated compared to the pictures in the app. There were cobwebs all over the apartment, spiders in the bathtub, sink and toilet were old and stained caulking, and towels long like they were 40 years old and mismatched.
We left right away without settling in, and then were not refunded for our stay.
DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE ON THIS ACCOMMODATION. NOT WORTH IT.
Please note, it takes a lot for me to complain. I have never written a terrible review like this for any other accommodations. It was a remarkably terrible experience.

The staff were very nice and open-hearted. They explained me many things, brought towels directly ro my room and even talked and played dart with me, while I waited for my dinner, which was a great local beef burger.
The dart is free and so is the great breakfast, where the lovely owner made me croissants, toast, scrambled eggs and provided cereals, although I was a bit late for it (8.30 - 9.30).
The room had an electric kettle for making tea, an own bathroom and a hair dryer, which was convenient for me, as I did not have many things with me while backpacking through this part of Scotland. All in all, it was a delightful stay and I was even allowed to stay quite long until midday the next day, as it rained and I was a bit hesitant to proceed with my journey.

Did not stay - nothing like photos

Arrived for check in at 7.30
Entered through the front door into a dark dingy foyer. Greeted by one of the staff that emerged from the shadows.
Told that there was no food available as they had just shut everything off and the nearest area for food was half an hour drive away. Were shown to our room up an unlit staircase and only the fire exit green lighting to guide the way, like something from a horror movie. Entered the room which looked nothing like the photos. Carpet was stained, there was a shelf hanging off the wall above TV and there was some very off putting unexplainable marks on the headboard. (See photos)
After a silent half hour drive to the nearest restaurant with my wife and 3y old we started to look for somewhere else to stay. Eventually found somewhere that was 2.5hrs drive - after already driving from the highlands for about 8hrs this was not ideal.
Travelled back to the hotel to hand in key and explain we wouldn’t be staying but no staff around so left key on the front desk and left.
Review score is 8/10 and star rating is 3.5

The hotel is a 2 star at best and I would rate the hotel a 2/10

Would not recommend for families.

Unfortunately the room smelt of wet dog despite the air freshener. The gun cabinet gave it away so not really suited to someone travelling on business with meetings the following day. The bathroom was mouldy and needed updating. I did not stay and there was no one on the premises to raise my concerns with. Unfortunately I paid in advance so could lost the money.

Room filthy, hair everywhere. Bed appeared to have already been slept in, mattress collapsing with age, bedding worn so thin you could see hair through it. Toilet seat broken, bathroom dirty, obviously not cleaned. Decor was shabby and depressing and bore little resemblance to photos on the website. The entry corridor looked like you shouldn't be there - undecorated and dark.

Only one member of staff in whole hotel, who was ill so the table we had booked for dinner had been cancelled - without telling us. Had we been warned we could have eaten before we got there, but we didn't arrive until 7pm then were told there was no food.

We didn't want to spend the last night of our honeymoon in such a filthy room, and we looked in the room next door which was exactly the same, so there seemed no point asking to change rooms. We left to find another hotel and food at extra cost!!!

I hate giving bad reviews but I think the Kirkmicheal Hotel needs to know so they can sort out the issues. Firstly there is only one staff member doing EVERYTHING! Said woman wasn't feeling very well so when I arrived the place was deserted, she eventually appeared and showed me to my room which she had upgraded to a double room instead of a single one. This was the only good thing about my stay, the room was clean enough but could be done with a spruce up, and the place was cold which after a long hike in the snow isn't what you need. In the evening of my second night, there was no food on offer as the woman was in her bed not well so I had to order a takeaway that cost me £15 delivery now this wouldn't have been an issue if the woman had got back to my message before I arrived regarding food options in the evenings, I could have taken my own. Also, the breakfast was supposed to be from 7.30 am until 9.30 but she informed me it would be 8.30 am which was no use to me as I was leaving early for my hike. To be honest the hotel served its purpose but don't expect too much as this poor woman is running the whole show on her own!

Very good hotel around the pitlochry area. Hosts were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was amazing and Amanda was very enthusiastic and friendly. She made us try all kind of Scottish breakfast and was everything was super yummy!! I would definitely recommend this place.

Room 4 wasn't terribly clean, tap in bathroom dripped all night, heating wasn't working properly, room was cold, dirty carpet. Breakfast wasn't good noticed most people left half of it. Milk jugs on table were filthy inside.

Bed was terrible hard springs and 2 singles joined together not comfortable. Very limited evening menu but possibly expected in the middle of no where burger was nice though , the breakfast was overcooked everything was bunt. Nice quiet area once the traffic has stopped for the night The rooms were clean but could do with updating and possibly a bigger TV as it was very small for the size of the room.

Fab traditional hotel with outstanding food!

Lovely hotel in a lovely little village with walks along the river for our dog. The manager Gary went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Lovely big room and very dog friendly. Roaring lot fire in the pub even in June and the pub food was outstanding! Chicken pie and chips were superb, but everyone said how Great their food was. Great hot buffet breakfast included. Highly recommended!

The hotel was comfortable and clean. I didn't eat in the restaurant that evening, so I can't comment on the food, but the menu looked good and was reasonably priced. The en-suite bathroom was clean but odd - no kneeroom when 'sitting down' as the toilet faced into the corner of the room... However, that was a minor issue. The booking said continental breakfast, but this was actually a full cooked breakfast buffet, very nice. The gravel car park was small, with no secure motorcycle parking, which is something to consider if you are traveling by bike, but the village is very quiet, so I felt safe parking there. Next time I'll stay for more than one night, so I can eat at the restaurant and enjoy some of the excellent biking roads in the area.

Great Little Hotel in Beauutiful Area

I really enjoyed this place. It's a small unassuming hotel in a beautiful part of the Scottish countryside. My single room was small but well enough furnished and equipped. Evening meals are served in the bar downstairs - the service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Breakfast, which you order the night before, is taken in a separate room which also doubles as an art gallery so lots to look at. The breakfast is absolutely superb. All in all, an excellent place to stay and a good first nighht's stop on the Cateran Trail.

Village hotel on The Cateran Trail

What a gem of a place - the staff will literally bend over backwards to help you.
Good size clean room, water pressure in the shower is fab and the WiFi in the room is the fastest WiFi I’ve ever known in any hotel.
Food is really good and freshly cooked and the bar is well stocked with everything you’d want.

Now as I was doing The Cateran Trail the owner Tek provided me with free vehicle support (he does it for everyone that stays for 2 nights or more, I stayed for 4) and picked me up and dropped me off morning and evening - I couldn’t have done it without him.
Don’t think twice about staying here, it really is a home from home.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family. Everyone was so friendly and the room was lovely. We ate in every night as the food was so yummy and very reasonably priced too. We’d definitely return and not so far from the skiing at Glenshee either. All in all a fab friendly hotel, thank you so much for looking after us.
