Lovely stay. Great views over Loch Faskally. We even saw a red squirrel. Lochview garden room was amazing. Tea, coffee, snacks and a fridge in the room. Sofa and chairs to relax in. Balcony overlooking the loch. Staff all helpful and professional. Door man ace! Spa peaceful and tranquil. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Would recommend the experience.

Had a fantastic 2 night stay for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our lodge was lovely, a bit tired but spotlessly clean with stunning views overlooking the Loch.
The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. On arrival we were greeted by Arthur the Concierge, he was so lovely, helpful & extremely knowledgeable about the Castle and surrounding areas. His colleague Mike was also lovely & very helpful. The reception staff were equally lovely and we were welcomed with a very nice wee dram of whiskey which went down well.
The food in the restaurant was delicious, we didn’t have one complaint.
We used the Spa facilities and the staff there were also first class just a shame the cleanliness in the showers and spa bath weren’t.

An amazing couple of nights at Fonab Castle. The staff were outstanding - so attentive and kind. Staff are a real asset and made our stay all the more enjoyable.
We enjoyed using the spa facilities. Breakfast was delicious. Dined in the restaurant which was fantastic.
Fab chat with the concierges when coming and going; and they were always on hand to help. They made my two children feel very welcome.
Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

Liked lovely man that greets you on arrival and helped with our bags to the top floor when the lift was out of action. The room was spacious and very comfortable (the penthouse suite) however was freezing! No one thought to heat the room for our arrival?? First couple of hours kept my coat on. An engineer then arrived after asking reception twice to fix the issue. No toiletries for the bath - ixed to the wall by the sink out of reach. My husband told hotel it was a very special occasion a week or so before but absolutely no reference to this throughout the stay. That was a bit odd for a 5* hotel. The room wasnt cleaned after our first night despite asking for it to be done while we were out till 2pm and being assured it would be on our return. The spa is BASIC. Pool too cold to swim. Limited beds and crowded sauna/ steam room so stayed for 20 mins only. Treatment although lovely was not 90 mins. More like 75. And the noise from outside completely detracts from being in a zen like state! (£160 btw). Now the biggest issue is staffing. All are very very nice but theres just not enough so as a result service was so poor. Staff divulged they were working on days off to cover. The hotel was pretty full but owners clearly skimping on staffing costs which means that although a beautiful castle this is absolutely not 5 star service. So unfortunately left a bit deflated for what was an expensive weekend, not somewhere i would return sadly.

Fantastic room in the castle . Bar area in the evening lacked ambience. Given poor table for 65th birthday celebration at dinner but this was changed. I don’t think 4 mouthfuls of duck terrine starter is worth £18 although it was tasty. .

Nice room and spa facilities although quite small so would not be ideal if busier. The easy walk into Pitlochry was very convenient. I would rate this hotel 5* as a lot of the little touches I would expect were missing. The service was lacking vs other 5* hotels.

After speaking with the general manager regarding the price we paid for the room I felt she was try to make me feel guilty for their pricing mistake, even although this was our 3rd stay this year. She was not very pleasent to speak with. As long as this GM is in place we will venture to other hotels.

This is such a nice hotel. We brought our young dog and she was very welcome, they have a cute welcome pack for dogs that includes a bed etc The breakfast was amazing. Our only negatives were that the outside hot tub was not hot enough, when it is 0 degrees outside the hot tub needs to be hot! Our other negative is that there’s a security light outside the lodge rooms that is super sensitive so it came on constantly through the night and the blind couldn’t keep the light out and there was no door on that area of the room either to shut it out.

Beautiful hotel - staff extremely helpful and efficient. Well appointed rooms - lovely decor and furnishings, bathrooms had plentiful toiletries and amenity kits.

Food was fantastic in both restaurants - especially enjoyed the dinner at Sandemans. Big thank you to Daniel and his colleagues for making it a lovely experience - and huge congratulations to Chef and his team for the fabulous menu. The food was outstanding!
Enjoyed using the pool and sauna facilities - spa staff were very friendly and helpful too.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to experience great food and Scottish hospitality! Hoping to make a return visit for sure. Thank you so much!

Stayed a couple of years ago and definitely gone downhill. Seems to be reducing costs at detriment to customer experience.
Low quality toiletries (not even supplied on first night). Pool/spa area needing a refurb, lockers not working in changing rooms, pool area needing refreshed and painted. Hot tubs outside not fully working and scum around rim.

Lack of variety in breakfast fruit options and low quality in cooked breakfast.

Overall not a 5 star experience and really disappointed.

All the staff we came into contact with were polite and helpful. We stayed in a lodge with view over the loch (L22). The room was cold on arrival, it was November and there was no heating on. It took us a minute to find a radiator and to get the heating going. The room itself was OK, the positives; it was clean, had a lovely large bed, nice view, beautiful bathroom with separate bath and shower. The negatives; the decor in the bedroom really didn’t compliment the room or draw on the surrounding woodland. It was out of keeping with the rest of the hotel and if I’m honest a bit tacky, not what we had expected. The furniture wooden cabinets etc looked like they need some TLC, few marks on the walls and the ceiling at some point had obviously been plastered but was a bit rough. We felt that there were little touches missing from a 5 star experience. The lodge felt a bit too detached from the main hotel. We didn’t really feel that it reflected what we had paid for our stay. Maybe if we had stayed in the main hotel then we would have felt differently. Breakfast was lovely, well cooked and a good range of choice. The spa and pool were also very nice. The changing rooms needed a bit of attention, the showers were missing locks and the shampoo/conditioner etc were all running low.

The whole stay was fantastic! The staff are ALL so welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere when you walk in is warm. The breakfast was great plenty to choose from as well. The concierges are more than accommodating, the scenery and setting phenomenal. It was peaceful, the bar lounge is comfortable and a gorgeous view - even when it is raining! Bedroom so comfortable and a proper size television in the room too! Tea and coffee amenities and robe and slippers and an umbrella. We will definitely he back sooner rather than later

We’ve been staying at Fonab for the last 7 years, since before it was bought out by a bigger company. And if I’m honest, it has declined yearly. It’s no longer a five start hotel. Maybe 4 at best. It’s tired and needs some love and a revamp. And a lot of reviews say this. It’s true. And it’s a shame. She staff are brilliant, but as other reviews suggest, there aren’t enough.
We weren’t told that we were expected to take our breakfast in bed card to the front desk, which apparently we are supposed to do (at a 5 start hotel?!) so we placed it outside our door as it said on the card and no breakfast came. When we dialled 0 (as it tells us to do on the tv screen for room service) we were told to phone a different number as that was a special line. Food came eventually. The second day I ordered french toast and it came as pancakes. They replace the meals no problem but all the little bits shouldn’t really happen in the first place. Overall, the wood panels on the rooms need repainting. There is dust and lint everywhere. We stayed in a doggy room with an infant and made the mistake of letting her play on the floor until I realised she was eating various other people’s dog hair on her toys. I’m not sure it’s hoovered but if it is, they need new hoovers that actually pick up. Sorry Fonab, we will probably look at a new hotel for our Enchanted Forest stay in the future.

I've never given a negative review for a property, and feel terrible doing it now. That said, I feel like it's my responsibility to let others know that you will not get what you pay for at this hotel. It is definitely not 5-star.

First, the positives: The location on the lake is beautiful, and we enjoyed the adjacent walking trail, proximity to the village, and gorgeous views from the lounge and restaurant. In general, I feel like the staff want to be helpful, and David genuinely tried. We liked having the spa, but I'll write more about that. Breakfast was outstanding, even though the service was lacking.

Negatives: Quite simply, this hotel is understaffed. Most seemed pleasant, but stressed and unable to fully do their job. Don't expect a concierge or any real help... They either don't know the answers to questions or don't have the time. The spa was nice to have on-site, but one of the hot tubs was always lukewarm or fully drained/empty. We had a Woodland Suite and the room was very dated and SUPER loud. We could hear absolutely everything in the hallway and the TV from the room next to us. Our coffee maker was broken and didn't get fixed or replaced over our three nights there. The bathroom smelled like urine. When we made a complaint about the noise on our first evening, we were told a manager would be advised. No one ever followed up with us.

This hotel has great potential and may be the best in the area. It's just not worth the price and definitely not 5-star.

A lovely location on the lake amongst the forest unfortunately the rooms are not five star standard they are rather small and don’t have baths or bar fridges. Kindly the hotel upgraded us to a suite which is more the size you would expect for a five star country hotel. The service was mixed the concierge was really lovely and went out of their way however reception were very awkward. They charged us £20 for checking out an hour late when we had told them we going to be late as our baby was sleeping. It was the sort of penny pinching you expect at a roadside travel lodge not a five star hotel. There are lots of better places to stay.

The staff are the greatest asset. All friendly, helpful and smiling. The food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The room was huge - only negative was that it was a big too warm inside because the weather was sunny. No air con ( I don’t think). The grounds are gorgeous and views breathtaking. The setting is absolutely stunning and with a few tweaks here and there this would be a fabulous hotel. However, unfortunately there was clearly some sort of mould issue in the bathroom which is not very pleasant and not expected in a 5 star hotel. We also did not receive our evening turn down service and as a result had to go to the reception for new towels etc.
We ate in the restaurant for lunch and the food was good, albeit more on the expensive side.

Warm welcome awaited us at Hotel combined with a personal walk around hotel and grounds by concierge service. Room was well appointed and spotlessly clean.
Food at breakfast was delicious and served individually which meant it was hot. Dinner was fantastic with a varied and interesting menu. Service by staff in both restaurant and bar was great without being intrusive. But the star attraction at breakfast, dinner and drinks in the bar was the view.

It was a nice location but not a 5 star experience. The room was very dated and didn’t feel 5 star quality. The bathroom was especially poor and needed a total upgrade.
The bar was quite nice aesthetically but the service was slow and none of the furniture was particularly comfortable to sit on.
We also did a spa day. The treatments we got were good but the rest of the spa was quite basic and didn’t flow. That may have been a space issue.

My husband and I booked 2 nights at Fonab Castle and we had a wonderful time. We were greeted at the door by very friendly door staff who helped us with our luggage and gave us a tour of the castle.
All the staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating . The castle is beautiful and the room was spotless and very grand. We had our dinner and breakfast at the castle which was excellent. We also had spa treatments on our last day, treatments were so relaxing. Would highly recommend Fonab Castle as a stay, we will definitely be planning another trip.

Booking for afternoon tea for friends not available despite following instructions on their website. Very embarrassing and disappointing for two children in my party. Cobwebs in room. WiFi didn’t work in penthouse and not able to fix. Service was sporadic. Breakfast on second day took around 50 minutes and was very average quality. Not a five star experience. I’ve shared comments with hotel in advance and given a chance to respond. They haven’t. Wouldn’t stay again. Lovely property but needs more/ better trained stafff. Beautiful location and grounds! The bar and restaurant are also lovely for views, service and quality of food. Hiwever, the rooms (loch-view room) are in need of modernisation with small cracked bathrooms, and more accurately, views of the dam rather than the loch from the room (loch views are available from the balcony though!)
Although the spa is nice, it seemed that the thermal suite and steam room weren’t on while we were there.
For the price (close to £500 per night) we expected better.

The property is situated on the banks of a loch and it is tranquil and beautiful. The service is what has set this place apart from others. Truly a high level of service. This was a great stay and I will definitely be back!

What joy to stay at Fonab Castle!

Fonab Castle is a very special stay, from its lovely grounds, comfortable rooms and excellent lunch and dinner offerings.

We were taken on a short tour of the building as we arrived before check in, and this was a special treat. Our friend was in the garden accommodation, and we were in the castle, so we were able to see both options. As expected, both are excellent.

The bathroom was lovely, with large towels.

We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at Fonab. The lunch and dinner were excellent. However, part of the breakfast was disappointing. The cooked meals were very good, but the tower of three choices could have been better. The pastries were ordinary and there were no spoons for the yoghurt which was served in elegant slender glasses.

We would love to stay at Fonab again.

Beautiful setting. It rained a good portion of the day we were there so the experience would have Belen better but for the rain. Also not able to explore the surrounding areas of the castle due to rain.

Absolutely amazing. Concierge Davie gave us a grand tour with huge Scottish flare. Beautiful views of the river with very clean grounds and rooms. Definitely our favorite stay on our 12 day honeymoon journey. Everything is pricey here but well worth the experience for this level of quality.

Had a lovely time at Fonab Hotel. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. Food was excellent (ate dinner and breakfast), and the spa was outstanding. Staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here.

Stayed for 3 nights in February. The castle and the Woodland Suites (where we stayed) were stunning.

The staff were incredible and nothing was a hassle. Mark welcomed us immediately and gave us a very helpful tour of the property. EV charging was free to use - which is becoming increasingly rare even amongst 5* hotels.

Breakfast was hearty, tasty and the service perfect.

Dinner was equally great. Despite Pitlochry having options to choose from, you’re really in the best spot at Fonab and do not need to leave at all.

I am loathed to criticise any part of our stay, but if I were being super critical, the spa facilities were a little tired. Though that said, there was some external refurbishment being conducted, so perhaps that is shortly extending to the interior?

We were not staying to take advantage of the spa, so it didn’t bother us too much.

Overall a fantastic stay.

Fabulous short break

Fonab Castle is in a beautiful setting. Easy access to other Perthshire towns and a short pleasant walk into Pitlochry . The staff are fantastic and make you feel very welcome.Concierge go above and beyond in helping anyway they can and it was much appreciated. Sandman restaurant closed so ate in 1892 restaurant which had good choice of food and beautifully presented. Breakfast was cooked to order which was lovely.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Hopefully next time we can stay for longer.
