We had the most charming stay a the Lake Hotel Gistihusid in Eglisstadir. The room triple room felt like a full on apartment- it was spacious, modern, and cozy. We enjoyed access to the onsite Spa. The staff was responsive and friendly to all of our requests. Breakfast was a highlight- many options, with a lot of Icelandic influence. We dined at the restaurant for two evenings. We found the food delicious and very good value in comparison to other restaurant hotels we ate at in Iceland. Overall this was our best value stay in all of Iceland. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next tour of East Iceland.

This hotel is one of my favourite places to stay in Iceland. The room was quite spacious, the beautiful spa facilities meant we could relax after a long time of being in the car. We’ve stayed here twice now and would definitely come back should we return to Iceland. The lake behind the hotel is beautiful and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights there! Amazing place, definitely recommend.

It's a nice hotel in a great location, but a bit long in the tooth. Food at restaurant was great, service at restaurant was pretty bad. Breakfast was good. Hotel staff were helpful in a few areas and once engaged with, were nice.

We picked this hotel because it has a washer and dryer available, and we planned to do laundry on this day of our trip. Upon arrival we enquired so we could start laundry and were told the washer was broken but we could use the dryer. While equipment fails, this has apparently been the case for several days now. More importantly, the best the hotel staff could offer was that we could go to the nearby campground and wash clothes there. That's a long time to be stuck at a campground rather than dealing with it in the hotel as planned. We made it work, but it was a major inconvenience and it significantly impacted our ability to enjoy time in the hotel. The hotel staff could have offered to take care of the laundry for us - which is what I would expect from a well run facility. The hotel could of notified us that the listing was no longer correct so that we could make other arrangements at least. Neither of those things happened, so I have to discourage staying at this hotel, as it seems like they could have done multiple things to deal with this and chose not to.

This was a really special stay. The room was comfortable, clean and airy. We had lovely views of the mountain side. The staff were very welcoming and the meals were delicious. We had breakfast each day in the restaurant and there was plenty of choice of both hot and cold breakfasts. We had dinner on the first night and I had the kamb. It was the best lamb I have ever tasted. I would recommend having at least one dinner at the hotel. The staff were always welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel website neglects to tell you that they are located right next to a cow farm. The smell is putrid when your hotel room windows are open because there is no a/c in the hotel. The staff says the whole town smells which it does. The spa is excellent, the view of the lake is obstructed by the trees.

We were promised through expedia 2 free spa access. We were told upon arrival that there was no way that we would get a free spa for two. That the spa would cost 2000isk vs the normal 4000 isk. Basically, we were treated like vagrants as soon as we arrived. We made reservations for dinner. We were seated at the first table as you enter restaurant. Shortly after arriving at dinner a table of 5 or 6 with kids arrived. The parents let them run around the restaurant. Our server/host Rapheal was the only saving grace. He knew we needed to move to a differrent table. Anyone would! The behavior of the aforementioned kids continued and we were not the only ones annoyed. I would say Raphael was the only reason we actually stayed at the hotel.
We showed Raphael our booking which included 2 free spa. He made sure the issue would be addressed and apologized for the front desk check in ladies attitude. Bed was comfortable, property was quaint and pretty. Staffing needs to be improved and less pretentious before I would recommend anyone staying at this location.

Best thing about this hotel is the aurora calling service, was able to view the aurora while our stay, love the view since it’s a lake at the back of the hotel and make it easier to take aurora photos there. Towels not so clean and housekeeping did not check the shower gel bottles as it was empty when we checked in. Staffs are helpful to give us extra bottle of shower gel to use, overall still recommend for this hotel.

Lake Hotel Gistihusid Egisstadir was night 6 for us on our journey around Iceland’s famous ring road. This hotel was seemed a little out of the way but perfectly placed for our itinerary. There was an on-site restaurant, and many groups stayed for the night. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the guests all seemed very happy. We stayed in a ground-floor room that overlooked the countryside. It was remote and peaceful. We had a lovely evening here.

If you like barn smell stay here

My room smelled like the inside of a barn. The bed wasn't comfortable at all. The shower head needs to be cleaned so the water sprays down instead of all over the place. Breakfast wasn't great. They were out of several items, like eggs 5 minutes after breakfast started. Overall wasn't impressed.

The hotel is located next to the family farm on the lake. Beautiful grounds and a beautiful, inviting lobby and restaurant. We ate at the onsite restaurant and the food was innovative and delicious. The breakfast buffet the next morning was very varied, plentiful and delicious. The rooms were comfortable but small which is not unusual for Iceland. The bathroom was small as well but manageable. They have free parking which is nice. They also provide wake-up calls for the northern lights and we were fortunate to receive one. Excellent property to take advantage.

Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, with local produce cooked perfectly. All the staff on the hotel and restaurant have been super friendly and helpful. The location next to the lake is pretty and peaceful.

Taxis are hard to find here, but it only took 25 mins to walk from the airport.

A very pleasant 1 night stay at this charming hotel. The hotel offers breathtaking views of the lake and is just 1-2 minutes away by car from the main town. The hotel also has a hot tub and sauna. While the sauna is undergoing renovation, the hot tub is very relaxing, especially after a long day of driving and exploring.

There is ample free parking available right in front of the hotel.

The breakfast spread had a good number of options, even for vegetarians.

Such a cute hotel by a lake. Has a lot of flair with objects in the common areas to look at. The room I stayed in was under the roof and looked so cute and was on the larger side for a single bed.

Their restaurant is nice, but - as with all such venues - expensive by north american standards. It also doesn't have the flair of the rest of the hotel, because it seems like hotel guests are herded together in an overflow room that is somewhat separate from the actual restaurant unfortunately. While dining there, every local was taken past us into the actual restaurant and it was just tourists in the room I was sat in.

So skip the restaurant, go into town and find a place to eat maybe?) but the hotel is fantasic

was spacious compared to other hotels during our trip. We were also able to use the laundry facilities which was very helpful. The stand out part of our stay was the food! The breakfast that was included with our stay was a full spread with tons of options, not the typical “free” breakfast. We highly recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant. It was our best meal during our 3 weeks in Iceland!

Beautiful setting on a farm & lake. We walked around & pet the cows, horses, & a sweet black kitty. The breakfast buffet was superb. Great location, right in town with plenty of dining options & gas right across the street. This did not bother us, but if you’re not used to the smell of a farm, the cow smell may bother you, so be aware of that. We, however, loved everything about our stay.

This hotel is lovely for what it is. Really cosy vibes throughout. Lake views out of the back of the hotel with mountain views to the front.

The room was basic but completely expected given the star rating of the hotel. It was functional, spacious and comfortable.

Staff were all friendly. Bar area was lovely with option to sit outside.

Quite a selection available at self service breakast.

We were able to walk into town from this hotel easily for dinner options. And you can get to the lake side as well.

Absolutely loved this property. The artwork in the lobby alone was captivating in how it used historical elements from previous versions of the hotel to tell the story of the hotel. Great cocktails and a lovely breakfast buffet all situated in a great location. If you are here, you are probably doing the Ring Road, only a short drive from the thermal areas of Myvatan and walking distance to both the lake and some off the beaten path thermal caves you can enjoy.

The hotel itself was nice, good room and spa, the restaurant had good food. But the smell was HORRIBLE. Beware it smells very strong of sulphur outside the hotel and in the water. As soon as you turn on the sink or the shower, you get smacked with a horrible stench. And there was a loud screeching noise all night that was annoying. Other than that, the actual room is decent and the hotel staff was very nice.
