Great hotel. Vastly exceeded my expectation. Lovely spacious room. Mine had a terrace where it was nice to sit with a beer or glass of wine while the sun went down. Restaurant is fantastic for breakfast and dinner. Only slight niggle is frustrating WiFi which has to be rejoined at least daily and frequently more often.

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. The meals were excellent, however I’d recommend that you book your time of eating in advance of staying at the hotel because the week end was very busy and we didn’t get served our meal the Saturday night until after 8 pm.

The breakfast menu was excellent as was the dinner menu. Only problem was that we should have booked a a dinner time before arriving as it was extremely busy on the Saturday and only time left was 7.30 so it was well after 8 pm before we actually ate. The bed was very comfortable but pillows we thought weren’t high quality so spoilt our sleep.

Hotel phoned on morning of arrival and asked what type of bed we required (double or twin) we arrived in the afternoon and we were shown to our room and asked if we wanted to book for dinner in the evening as it was busy. Our room was new and had an added bonus of a balcony which was great as the weather was nice enough to sit out. The bed was really comfy, room has tea and coffee facilities and a fridge, the bathroom has toiletries provided and a large walk in shower. There is also a hairdryer in the bedroom. Breakfast at the hotel has a good selection of cereals fruit juices, bread and cooked items.

The hotel is undergoing a renovation, and while the completed parts of the hotel are beautifully finished and furnished, the overall experience of the stay was tarnished by noisy building work commencing early in the morning, the views outside the property and from the bedroom window were spoiled.
My room was lovely. It has obviously been recently refurbished, however there is no sound proofing and every movement and noise from adjoining rooms can be heard clearly through the wall. This lead to a very poor nights sleep.
Other than this, the food was good, the price was fair, the staff were fine, and when finished the hotel will be lovely.

Lovely refurbished rooms but when we checked in the air con was at 13c so it was very cold. We wore our coats on till room heated up. Shame as the room so cold we ended up going out sooner. Shower very good, nice bedding and good breakfast.

Really frirndy staff, nothing too much trouble, Nice restraunt on site, small comfortable bar. Hotel ounder going refurbishment atthe moment so a lot of noise duringthe morning. I inadvertently bookes a rrom that was blocked off from dayligt due to building works, in fairness this was reflected in the price.

Mixture bit over all lovely hotel
The first night was fine, bar staff great and bubbly. Apologies for not having a sea view from my room as there is construction work going on. Did seat me at the window for dinner. I was wakened @ 6.30am with noises coming from down stairs. Second morning it was 8an with banging noises. Really nice hotel though and once complete would stay again

All good and very friendly staff. Two points:
Surely the days of tinned grapefruit segments and other fruit for breakfast are past?
Second, the bedroom walls are paper thin so I was treated to a long phone call by the next door guest from 10 until 11pm.
But overall a good experience.

Excellent hotel. Up a steep hill so be aware of that if you are walking or driving in the winter. Staff were fantastic food was amazing. Looks like they were having work done as some of the paintwork needed a little bit of a touch up. Clean and comfortable overall very good.

Overnight stay for work. Restaurant food was really nice. I had fish and chips. Room was good. Bed was a little short for me. My feet were hanging out the bottom a little 😂. Apart from that. A good stay. 1 thing, one the morning I lwebt down for breakfast but no staff at reception and there's was 4 of us. I waited a while before having to leave so didn't get my breakfast which was paid for.

The staff were excellent, very attentive but not intrusive. No complaints about the food, was really good and the room was great and so was the view. Comfy bed too.
Only down side was walking the hill to get back up to the hotel when you'd been out, too steep for disabled but would be fine in a car.

The Knowes Hotel has clearly been refurbished to an excellent standard and the staff are amazing . Food is excellent , rooms are spot on and parking is good. Views across the harbour are spectacular and it is very busy with visitors using the restaurant and locals which is a great sign of good food and service

The Restaurant offers a good choice to suit all; Veggie section in menu has an excellent choice without Pasta & Sauce. Meat and Fish dishes are very good as well as cooked to perfection.

Very pleasantly surprised,a very good hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful from the time we arrived till the time we departed. The hotel enjoys a good sea-view. The hotel is very clean and comfortable as are the bedrooms,food was of good quality and variety. I would have no hesitation in staying here again and definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Macduff . Warning to avoid disappointment make sure to book a table before arriving as this is becoming a popular place to dine.

Wayne the owner / Chef and front of house Stephanie , from arrival to departure nothing was a problem for them to make our stay one to remember, out of all the hotels that we have stayed at over the 4 weeks traveling, this has to be the best. Chef Wayne knows his stuff and delivered amazing food know wonder you have to book a table. Totally recommend this hotel. Good one guys ,,!!!!!!!!!

The hotel has recently been upgraded. The new owners have done an excellent job. Our bedroom had stunning views of the water and had recently been redecorated. We reserved a table for dinner and were given a window seat with a lovely sea view. The food was excellent and the restaurant was full with locals enjoying the menu of local produce. The service and manner of the staff was excellent throughout our stay. Very pleased we chose to stay at the Knowes. Old reviews don't reflect this hotel.

bedroom cold no heating, my six year old grandson had to sleep with socks on and a jumper on top of his p.js. the only heater in the bathroom didnt work ,had to ask for coffee making facilities,very poor breakfast,asked if a cooked breakfast was required i answered yes ,was then told they had no eggs.i have stayed in this hotel many many times,as i was born in this town,and have always enjoyed my stays but never again in this hotel in fact i think i am entitled to my money back
