Property badly in need of renovation. 1st morning breakfast-tables not cleared. Breakfast Bacon overcooked and not enough butter provided. Unacceptable Noise from Bar below (Room 1).

I cannot do this as despite booking and paying for three rooms for a family wedding nearby in March 2025, I was given 48 hours notice that the hotel could not accommodate two of the rooms. The staff were not at all helpful when I phoned them. Didn’t seem to care that this was causing a lot of anxiety and stress. I was told my booking was on ‘the old’ system as the hotel has changed hands. When the one party member checked in I found the staff not very welcoming at all. No smiling welcome. Very laid back about the whole thing.

The hotel has gone downhill since changing hands. The breakfast food was cold and the eggs were overcooked. I had salmon for breakfast purporting to be fresh from Portsoy but it certainly didn’t look like it. It meant that we were no way going to eat in the hotel for our evening meal. The cleaning standards were very poor. The carpet on stairs looked like they’d never been hoovered for a good while and window ledges were dirty.

The bed was actually comfortable and clean however.

I was so very disappointed with the hotel

Very tired and run down. Had called beforehand and explained I had walking difficulties and was promised a lower level room - they tried to put me on the second floor but could not do the stairs so they found a room on the 1st floor. Needs a makeover. It’s is so run down it looks dirty but it is not. Apart from lipstick on my glass it was actually very clean. Thought I had boooked for breakfast through hotels.com but hadn’t so didn’t eat at the hotel.

Slept well and pretty good breakfast at a good price. But.... In dire need of modernisation. Although clean enough, attention to detail is absent and strange choices have been made. Rooms need a daily check and if things aren't right, they need to be fixed. A shower door that doesn't close properly, cables crossing behind the TV causing interference, sitting the breakfast area miles away from the rooms and being surprised when guests sit in the dinner area which they come to first instead. And the signs. Handwritten tatty signs are everywhere. The staff are either inexperienced or don't care.

Having said all that, the locals seem to use the place and were welcoming in the bar where a couple of staff also spent the evening. We found out that the hotel has recently been taken over by a hotel group so I suspect changes will be made once they gear up and it may well be a different place soon. But I can only review what we experienced and wish everyone well for future success as it's a hard business to make work and changing / modernising the offer here will take time, energy and a lot of money. But the bones of decent accommodation may well be enough to build on. Good luck to all concerned.

On arrival we had to go looking for someone to check us in. The room and bathroom were clean but that was the only plus. The beds were very hard mattresses, they were very uncomfortable. The wall light fittings were falling off. The room was above the bar so it was very noisy till closing time. Breakfast was poor. The young girl serving was very pleasant but the food not so good. We both ordered poached eggs on white toast. Eggs were ok but the toast was disgusting. Cheap bread ( value coop as i seen packet ) which barely seen the heat of the grill! It was basically warmed bread, yuk. No one again at reception to take our keys. Overall i was very disappointed with the hotel, i wont be going back.

Check in was very good. Woman at the bar was very helpful and checked me in. She took me upto my room and made me aware of where breakfast was in the morning. Very impressed.

I was out on the lash all day and night. Came back at night for a few drinks and a game of pool. Went upstairs and the bed was big which is good but not too comfortable. It didnt put me off but it might have if i was sober haha.

When i checked in I was asked when I'd like breakfast. I went down in the morning and my room number was on the table. I sat down and a while later i was asked what I'd like for breakfast. I ordered and after a while it came with an extra plate of scrambled and poached eggs. The waitress forgot to ask how I liked my eggs so she gave me them all ways which was appreciated.

All in all I enjoyed my stay and I recommend it.

The rooms were clean, but sadly there was an awful pervading smell in the corridor near the suite, which was really unpleasant. It got worse as the day went on. The windows, which had been left open, were very difficult to close and as the room was facing the main road it was very noisy. One of the housekeeping staff did eventually manage to close the window after several attempts. Breakfast was of a reasonable standard and there was plenty of choice. I could not recommend staying in the suite, due to the awful smell. Thankfully we only stayed for 2 nights. The staff were lovely and Portsoy and the surrounding areas are very pleasant.

Our stay started with with a super friendly check in and explanation of services available and so on. The room was pleasant and comfortable with the exception of the intense heat which made sleep difficult. I think in hot weather some rooms could really use a fan?
The food at breakfast was well cooked with a good variety of options available. The dinner menu was also good and food a high standard.
All staff were welcoming and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. It was wonderful that our dogs were also welcome and could come into the bar and lounge areas with us.
If we are back in the area we would definitively sty again.

Food was delicious,so no surprise the restaurant was very busy
The 14:00 check in makes a big difference.
Portsoy and the surrounding villages were all very clean with breathtaking scenery.

Decent sized room at front of hotel. Despite this, never heard any traffic. Clean & tidy. Shower OK.
Food was great, plenty of gluten free options, including fish and chips, gf bread and sausages at breakfast.
Nice wee town, good coastal walks, would visit again.

Very welcoming. We stayed in the suite which was huge with 2 separate bedrooms and small dining area in the middle and a separate bathroom. Service and food was excellent. Especially the evening meals in the restaurant on the ground floor, all homemade meals - recommend the beef and ale pie! Breakfast was good, plenty of options even with a fussy child.
There was confusion about parking at first but plenty on the main road and plenty in a public car park next door. There is actually some to the rear of the property for visitors but not very clearly identified. We weren't phased by being on a main road personally, we all slept very well. The little loch at the side of the hotel was a nice treat especially for a morning stroll. A local co-op next door to this too. Bakery and takeaways across the road if needed.

Comfortable, clean and good breakfast

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Station Hotel Portsoy. The bedroom was large, nicely decorated and the beds really comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean and bed linen good quality and spotless. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Central location with pleasant walk down to the harbour.

Large hotel, with plenty of function space.
The food was good as was the hospitality. Staff were great.

However take note that the road is busy so ask for a room at the rear of the property.

Rooms are bit dated, require upgrade and the quality of the fittings and decor were not good.
Lots of potential at this hotel. Just need a bit of TLC in the bedrooms. Attention required in bathrooms- vents and shower seals particularly.

Checked in on Friday around 12pm but room wasn’t ready till 2pm. That was the actual time of check in anyway. Went and wandered about the town and came back at 2 and was given an upgrade.

Dinner was excellent and breakfast on both days was great. Service was excellent as well

Aging hotel in centre of PortSoy. Unable to eat as closed after 8pm- pub attached who really isn’t interested in trying to get something made- suggests buy Chinese from across road and eat in bar. Room looking its age with thin mattress. Clean and well kept. Certainly value for money.breakfast and service very good.

Good 5 day stay. All staff from reception, breakfast and evening bar were very friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast was freshly cooked using good quality produce. Room and ensuite were very clean. Bed was comfy. Central heating radiator kept the room nice and warm all night.
We would definitely stay here again.

The room smelt of cigarette smoke when we opened the door . But we opened the window to air it a bit and seemed to go . The restaurant was closed for a private function but we found somewhere else to eat . Breakfast scrambled egg and salmon was delicious and ingredients sourced locallyb

A hidden gem in a great location

Friendly check-in and then taken to room, which was clean and fresh with a lovely view. Had dinner that night and was amazed by the quality of the food, for a good price. The place is considerably bigger than it appears from the road. And yet the service was very personal and attentive. Definitely would come back

Traditional, nice, inexpensive stay in great area.

This is a traditional Scottish main street older hotel. Positives clean, good quality food, wonderful staff and inexpensive in an absolutely wonderful area mass tourism hasn't yet discovered - so very few hotels. Rooms are okay but not plush, decor is traditional the menu didn't change over 3 nights, last orders for dinner 7.30 and the waiter, worked very hard. Covid restrictions had an influence on all this too
But overall it was a very nice, inexpensive stay in a great area where accommodation is hard to find.

Nice little town. Huge room for the price. Comfy beds but got extremly hot during the night. Bathroom was a good size but there was quite a few hairs in the shower. Has alot of room and furniture and storage. The pub was a lovely little pub with a pool table and dart board. The pudding shop a few doors down is incredible!!

Im afraid it was rather dissappinting stay. Room had damp smell, all mirrors were dirty, mould in the shower, very cheap single-ply toilet paper. There was a lot of noise coming from upstairs, like dog claws over the wooden floor, all night long. Double room my friend was in, wasnt in any better condition, shower door came off while he was in the shower. And couldnt sleep due to upstairs noise either. Breakfast was ok. Plenty to chose from, but sticky plastic table covers didnt look or feel welcoming. Cleanliness and noise was the biggest issue for us.
