We stayed at The Victoria Hotel for three nights during our trip to Melbourne, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing.
The check-in process was poor. There was no reception staff available, so we had to complete the check-in ourselves using a machine in the lobby. We requested two key cards, but the machine only issued one. No one welcomed us or provided any information about the hotel facilities such as breakfast hours, the pool, or other amenities.
Considering the price we paid, the room did not meet expectations. The overall service also felt quite casual. The staff were not particularly friendly or professional, and the atmosphere felt more like a roadside motel than a hotel located in the heart of Melbourne.
The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location, which is very convenient.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not choose this hotel again on my next visit to Melbourne.

Great CBD location and good Happy Hour at the bar on weekends made it a good stay. We had a quiet room away from the lifts in the East Wing. Hum of air conditioning was present but still made it okay to sleep. Gym is very limited in equipment and small in space, as is the pool, but both still usable.

The bar isn’t open till Thursday which was a bit of a shame. The pool is tiny- in an airless glass box and very warm water. I enjoyed it only because I had it to myself.

This is our go to hotel when staying in Melbourne city; it has the most amazing location!! It’s so clean, there a fantastic restaurant/bar on site (great nightly specials/happy hour) and it’s reasonably priced. We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve stayed, highly recommend.

The in-house bar (Vics) was closed 4 of our 7 days there.

Repair was attempted, but unfortunately it failed again shortly thereafter, but at a more reasonable hour and it was left disabled until our departure, thankfully. Guest services did provide reasonable amends for our annoyances.

The room was good and the service was excellent overall. However, I had one issue. When I extended my stay online, it seemed like the request wasn’t received or was ignored. I was woken up while sleeping and asked to come down to reception, even though it wasn’t urgent and could have waited. Since there’s a phone in the room, it would have been more considerate if they had called first.

I am so glad that I stayed in The Victoria Hotel Melbourne for my Australian Open trip. The location is so convenient. I was able to walk to Melbourne Park and other places of interest and there are so many restaurants and cafes around. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was friendly. Excellent experience.

Positives: Great location, proximal to CBD and sports events. Thanks for staff after hours for check-in as the kiosk check was not working. Bed great, and room quiet. Negatives. Flaccid pillows and the spares had dirty pillowcases, which were replaced the day after. The room needed a good thorough clean-the carpet looked as though it had not been vacuumed for years, loads of particles visible and the dust build up in the corners was about an inch thick. The carpet in the corridors very malodorous. Compared to Next and the Stamford, the Victoria is looking a bit tired and in need of a spruce up.

The staff at the reception desk were not welcoming or accommodating and did not have any customer service skills whatsoever, did not even get a smile on check in or check out. There were hairs in the bed in one of the rooms I booked, and a smell in the bathroom for the second room, with the window unable to open to help.
