The view were incredible and the walk wasn't too easy but it was quick from the port. The staff was very helpful and found space for us at dinner last minute. The rooms were very clean but smelled a bit musty.

The hotel is located on a hillside not far from Miyaura Port. In the morning, rooms with balconies offer beautiful views and sunrises. Walking to the port doesn’t take long, and along the way you can see the red pumpkin and white birdcage illuminated by lights, creating a unique atmosphere in the evening.

Our stay was truly heartwarming, and we wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Shimasaki-san, she went above and beyond to assist us, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression.

We sincerely hope this kind-hearted lady, who treasures art museums yet is even more devoted to her work in hospitality, finds great success in the future.

We enjoyed the location of this little hotel. We had a corner room and were disappointed to see the windows were very dirty. The hotel might consider adding some electric candles to the dinner tables to elevate the vibe as it’s pretty utilitarian. Overall, a good value for the money. 👍

Best description from someone else - fancy youth hostel. Other than not permitting shoes, this is like a European hostel with a laminate bathroom floor and walls in small capsule with two very small beds with cheap polyester bedding and pillows. If you are looking for okay (okay price) this is okay hotel but read reviews as the photos show a much smarter, cleaner hotel than it is.

It was a steep hill to climb with luggage. Taxi's were not available even though the website said you can take a taxi.
The Hotel has many levels and no elevator.
Given that we were fit we managed to drag our suitcases up the hill. Not very accessible for people with disabilities.
We enjoyed our stay the room was minimally appointed. The aesthetics were simple & clean.

We stayed in the Peak Cottage and it was amazing! The cottage was the perfect amount of rustic charm, with the best view ever. We loved having the private sauna and the air conditioning in the cottage was nice to have for the hot nights. We wish we could stay longer! We would definitely come back. Note that to book the Peak Cottage, it’s important to be able bodied because it’s accessible by stairs only. We enjoyed seeing the local cats around outside, so charming!

The room was clean, contemporary with a great balcony and view of the bay. We love the hilltop hotel but it was a challenge for us, as senior citizens, to get there. Long 10-12 min. walk up hill from the port with three main steep stairs to move within the facility. If we were younger, not an issue.

Beautiful hotel and corner rooms have a view that overlooks the town out to the sea. We appreciated the chefs accommodating our cow’s milk allergy. Dinner was very good. Added bonus: the hotel is associated with Naoshima Tours (bicycle rental and luggage transport); very convenient! Would definitely recommend.

This boutique hotel has spacious well designed rooms with an excellent shower and counter space . Each room has a terrace and views of sea. It’s only a 10 minute walk from ferry terminal but steep uphill all the way. Excellent on site dinner options multi course and well prepared. Breakfast is more European than Japanese. Meat heavy . I miss the vegetable options seen at other hotels. Drip coffee rather than espresso machine. Very nice staff and mostly responsive to emails. The website for luggage delivery from port is hard to use / translation didn’t work on all spaces -and the staff wouldn’t help so I had to lug suitcase up the hill on arrival.

This is a review of the Peak Cottage of My Lodge. It is very different from the main building and there has been lengthy descriptions of this cottage on the website. But they don't prepare you for the reality. For the price you pay, you get the most basic room smaller than a youth hostel. The separate bathroom has no proper door but is slatted, which means it does not stop wind or cold coming in. This maybe fine in high summer, but early spring with a cold snap? You will be on the toilet shivering. To make things worse, there is no hot water coming from the washing tap. I know about the limited shower time, but I was not prepared to wash my hands in freezing icy water every time after using the toilet. The steps they warned you about is steeper then expected, I would not suggest taking luggage more then the size of a cabin bag. I am not sure why the hotel sell this cottage at the same price as their rooms. In the cold weather it is almost uninhabitable. We did have dinner and breakfast. Food is all western, which seem to be normal on the island. Dinner was fine but breakfast was not very good. It is a weird combination of tomato soup, salad, kind of a piece of toast and kind of full English. There isn't any condiment of any kind, not even jam or honey. We loved the island and understand we have limited options of places to stay. But charging this rate for the Peak Cottage feels like we have been taking advantage of. I have since complained to both the hotel but received no

Staff is terrible, we asked about lunch they replied that they are starting to work from 6pm, we came after 6pm they replied that we don’t have reservation and they will not provide food for us, we been tier after 6h traveling, also my wife was cold, we asked transfer to some restaurant, taxi they refused us to help they said straight forward walk… outside was only 4C, my wife left w/o dinner. Also terrible access to hotel, you have to clime to steep hill will luggage, no shuttle service. Staff is like from another galaxy, manager refused to meet and talk

Great stay, mini sauna with exterior bath is fantastic. Interior doors etc are mostly sliding so don't expect privacy. Front door lock is very \"sticky\". The house is a bit up a hill, but you get a very nice view for the effort, great stay.

Very small room simply decorated, even tinnier shower. Nice view from balcony.
Long stairway to second floor rooms, don’t carry heavy baggage. Restaurants hard to find after dark, especially when you drive, impossible to turn into narrow lanes.
Kaoshima has amazing museums, but biking and walking are best left for the young and healthy.

It was great to be within walking distance to the port but in bad weather this is tricky with bags as it is an uphill walk at some parts. It would be good if My Lodge provided accessibility information and warning about this. There is limited taxi service on the island so it would be good to know this too. Go with as little luggage as possible due to access issues and space constraints. Otherwise pleasant dining area when open. It would be good if this space was open for use like a lounge during the day.

Great stay. We started in one of the small double bed rooms because that night, the larger suites were booked out. Though small, still clean and comfortable. We then switched to the corner suite and it was very spacious and had a spectacular view. All furniture and interiors are designed with Muji furniture. Only caveat is the walk up the hill to get to the hotel. However, if you have an e-bike rental, it’s not too bad.

The property was very unique and really made us feel like we were in an authentic Japanese home. The view was absolutely stunning! The only concern was the there was construction in the house next to us and the bathtub area didn’t have a proper roof and the construction workers could see into the space, so we couldn’t really use the tub. One recommendation would be to have a double or queen bed available instead of just twin beds.

A functional place to sleep in Naoshima, that is fantastic if you expect a hostel.

Be warned, it’s up a steep hill with no public transport options. We had no hot water both nights in shower/taps. The beds are very small, and quite basic. Breakfast is a bit basic, but worth doing given limited dining options.

It is fairly convenient to get a bus to/from the Benesse House but be aware of the running times.

It was the worst experience for me to stay at the hotel.o
1. You have to climb up the hill with your luggage. There are only two taxies in this island. It’s hard to get a taxi. This hotel does not provide pick up service. The slope is steep. It was terrible.
2. No drop-off service. When I requested drop off service, they told me to call and reserve a taxi by myself. The owner was very rude.
3. Poor food
Dinne was terrible, too expensive: quality and quantity.
No professional chef: young boys and girls are cooking with instructions. One drink was required for every guest.
Paella was not fully cooked. I could not eat.
Dinner I ordered costed more than 5000 yen. I am not a big eater, but I was hungry after dinner. It was my first experience in my life.
4. Unkind, rude owner
He did not even explain my room location. I had to climb to two more stairs with heavy luggage.
I wanted to ask some more questions, and tri “do you understand Japanese?”
Japanese is my mother tongue, and he was talking with me in Japanese though. How rude! He could talk in English.
5 filthy slippers
You have to wear old used slippers to enter the room. The slippers were old, used, and made with cloth. Unclean filthy.
6. Noise
You will hear voice and noise from other rooms.
7. No hospitality
You will receive no hospitality but their excuses.

I paid almost 40000yen for one night including dinner for two. I will never recommend this hotel to any one.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at My Lodge Naoshima. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and amenities were sufficient. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. The only negative was the uphill hike from the port to the hotel and the steep stairs to the room.

The design and size of our room was great. Hard beds but soft pillows made for good sleep. We had two walls of windows with views to water in two directions. It was difficult to find and uphill. Then stairs to your room. Consider keeping luggage at the lockers in the port. Also, you have to turn on the refrigerator and hot water heater. Works well for those who can travel light and do stairs and hills easily.

This was a super cool and friendly place to stay . In a good location a short walk ( uphill) from the port. Large and well appointed modern room with a great bathroom as well. We had a good breakfast before heading out to explore Naoshima art sites. Renting an e bike is the best way to get around.

I had a room with a great view of the ocean and other islands. What I did not have was food during the two nights they closed the restaurant. Not only was the hotel restaurant closed, so was food delivery, and almost everything else in this small town. That was not fun!!

Convenient to the harbor but quiet a hike up the hill to the property. Once there, it is lovely. We were in one of the smallest rooms with no balcony so it was tight but clean and satisfying. The food is so good, I would recommend getting the half board while there. The island is small enough to walk everywhere and that’s what we did.

Nice and new property located short distance away from Miyaura Port and dining options from Miyaura area of the island. Approximately 10 mins walk to most everywhere, and 15 min bike ride to Benesse's Chichu Museum. Staff were wonderful, and offered to take us back to the port after seeing I had broken a piece of the luggage! We'll come back.

Super cute place on Naoshima. Close to Miyanoura port (only 10mins walk, but up a pretty steep hill), the property is simple but nicely done. Very clean, the rooms were quite spacious for Japan (we had a balcony room) with a double bed and little desk, and the balcony had sets and table overlooking the bay. Was a lovely place to watch the sun go down with a glass of wine!

The bed was quite firm (if you like a soft mattress then this isn't the place for you) and only one pillow each (ask for more if you need two!) but otherwise it was comfy. I don't mind a firm mattress so I slept well.

Breakfast was really delicious (especially for 1000JPY) - toast, sausages, seasonal veg and soup. Again simple, but really tasty.

We were very excited about our stay on Naoshima island. This hotel however was a big disappointment especially for the price!! First it was very difficult to find, there is a small 8 x 10 pc of paper on a small poll that has a tiny map to the hotel. When you finally do make it to the hotel, it looks very cute,, Muji inspired, very minimalist.

There was one parking spot and it never mentioned in the site that it was paid parking so I paid ¥2000 for parking. We paid an additional ¥2000 for breakfast which was not delicious, a bowl of greens with dressing, a soup, and a pc of bread the second night we ate dinner at the restaurant, the nain couse pasta looked like dog food and tasted like cardboard! It was disgusting, I returned it only to have it come back looking and tasting the same!
I think the Worst part of the stay were the beds! So uncomfortable I never got a good nights sleep, I would have preferred a futon than the mattresses on the beds! it was horrible!
I think the bare minimum is a comfortable bed to sleep in, with decent food! In 4 years Of living in japan this is my only negative review!!!

The front desk staff and the kitchen crew made this great stay. We were in Naoshima for my wifes birthday and they took great care of us. The rooms are very new, clean, well appointed and simple. All have a nice view of the sea.
We particularly appreciated Kati and Shon/Sean. Her service and his cooking were excellent. Highly recommend the Octopus Salad and does a delicious paella.
