Unfortunately the building works adjacent to our room, was very noisy, being woken up at 7am and continuous throughout the day. This room should not be allocated to guests.

It’s amazing stay. I still can't believe how cheap the stay is, considering the huge room with simple but superb interior with walkin close and huge toilet+shower room. Just that if you come by car, Sassi area is quite complicate. We got a penalty ticket and didn't know yet how much we have to pay for it. Try ask the hotel in advance if you come by car.
Anyway, apart from car hustle, everything can't be more perfect than it is. There is an amazing restaurant at the same area too! We will come again in 4years☆

Very nice hotel, did not know what to expect from a cave hotel but it was lovely, not cold or earthy as what you would expect from a cave. Loved the cave experience and also the hang out cave in the room, very unusual and quirkey.

Genuine Matera experience!

Warm and friendly, elegant and beautiful stay

Marie-Therese and her mother were such gracious hosts, and the Residenza was very special and unique, with its own courtyard. They had restored everything from ruins starting around 2000, and it's done so tastefully, with a good balance of respect for the original structure of the site, with a sense of classic style and comfort. The room, part ancient cave, part tufa stone, was so quiet and elegant (no tv, such a relief!), the walls all made out of the local tufa stone that radiated history. We treated ourselves to dinner in the restaurant the last night, which was one of the best meals of our entire Italian trip. Breakfast every morning was perfect, not only classic caffe latte, and a range of croissants and pastries (plus cold cuts and cheeses), but also my favourite, a delicious potato focaccia made fresh every morning by our hosts.

The modern sculpture museum, Musma, is almost next door. In a 17th century palazzo, built on top of over 7 cave networks that were formerly Benedictine and Dominican monasteries, it's one of the most beautiful and compelling art installations we've ever seen.

The sassi neighbourhood village, Sassi Caveosa, nestled into the cliffs, and the whole town, is quite beguiling. Walking up and down stone pathways and stairs everywhere you go, complete with sassi cats that came out to play at night, was very special.

Few Nights in Matera

Loved this hotel in Matera, good value and really nice views at night and very peaceful close to many good restaurants and museums. Very characterful, would not recommend to anyone with walking difficulties as parking can be tricky.

Really well located to explore Matera

Central for exploration of both Barisano and Caveoso districts, we found Dodici Luna to offer a very comfortable stay. The room was clean and spacious if a little bit stuffy, but that was a small price to pay for being in the well appointed 'cave'. Authorised parking is a short walk from the property and we were able to keep the car there even after check out in order to visit the area for a bit longer.

An awesome experience in a spectacular setting!

An awesome experience staying in this small friendly hotel in such a spectacular setting. Our cave room seemed to go on for ever with lots of corners and passages. Beautifully planned and lit. Full of atmosphere both inside and out. It is a highly recommended restaurant but they had a function on the night we stayed. We were welcome to eat in the courtyard and share the function menu. Great value for the price!

Fantastic value!

This hotel was very easy to find from the parking area with many signs directing to it's location. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We arrived late, checked in, put our bags down & then enjoyed a fantastic meal at the restaurant in the hotel. Great choice, beautiful view, amazing city!

le Dodici Lune B&B

We stayed one night at Le Dodici Lune and it was exactly what we were looking for. It was easy to find as it's right on the main road on the drive in and there's was a free public parking lot very close to the hotel. We had to climb a bit of stairs to get to the hotel, so I suggest you pack decently lightly. The room was very clean and cute! We loved the cave effect but it was still clean and modern enough that you almost forgot you were in a cave. The mattresses were nothing special but not bad. We slept well. You can hear a little bit of what is going on outside but it was never too much. Breakfast was delicious but all sweet breads- which seems to be mostly what Italians eat for breakfast so it makes sense. The hotel isn't in the middle of all the sites, it's a little walk a way, that can be tiring. We liked the location but for someone who doesn't want to walk uphill much, our hotel was before the major incline where all the sites are so it was a little tiring. I would stay here again.

PROTAGONISTI DI UNA FIABA........

.... è così che ci si sente soggiornando in questo luogo. Il paesaggio dei Sassi, le luci del tramonto e l'atmosfera incantata non possono trovare conclusione migliore di quella che offre Le dodici lune!! Personale che dire gentile è riduttivo, qualsiasi cosa che possa rendere indimenticabile il soggiorno a Matera loro lo fanno. Dalla colazione, strepitosa, alla sistemazione della camera, dalla pulizia ai consigli per le varie visite da fare in città....tutto curato con meticolosa attenzione. Non so quando tornerò a Matera ma son certo che tornerò e sceglierò certamente LE DODICI LUNE.

Bel hôtel, mais dans un environnement industriel

Hôtel et restauration de bonne qualité, personnel très courtois.
Climatisation hors fonction dans notre chambre et présence d'odeurs d'un dépotoir situé à peu de distance en ouvrant la fenêtre.
Environnement industriel sans accès à pied à des sites intéressants.
Bon endroit pour des voyageurs d'affaires plutôt que pour des touristes cherchant l'ambiance d'une ville historique.

MANCANZA DELL'ACQUA CALDA PER LAVARSI!!!! Asciugamani che puzzano di fritto. Assenza totale della vista panoramica sui sassi di Matera (nonostante il costo della camera pagata che era una Deluxe!). Sono riusciti a rovinarmi il soggiorno in questa bellissima città!

ottimo hotel ma faticoso da raggiungere. non lo consiglierei a nessuno che abbia qualche anche minima difficoltà di deambulazione.
appare come un hotel ma in realtà è un affittacamere e la reception non è coperta durante le ore notturne. Comunque c'è una sala colazione con buffet vario, abbondante e anche con qualche prodotto tipico locale.

La chambre était très spacieuse et très joliment aménagée dans une ancienne maison troglodyte en plein cœur des Sassi de Matera.

Le petit déjeuner était très bien mais en revanche, l'accueil dans la salle de petit déjeuner pourrait vraiment être amélioré.

Attenzione il b&b è sprovvisto di parcheggio ed arrivarci è molto difficoltoso!le camere sono particolari ma umide e senza finestre personalmente mi hanno dato un senso di claustrofobia.

Ottimo resort nella zona ristrutturata dei Sassi. Accesso carrabile da zona a traffico limitato ma autorizzata per i clienti. Splendida camera con tutti i comforts, affacciata su un giardino interno dove si trova anche il ristorante del resort, di ottima qualità. Staff molto gentile e disponibile.

Best hotel during our entire stay in Italy

Residenza le Dodici Lune is an extraordinary hotel located in the centre of the old town of Matera. It's extremely romantic, clean and comfortable. Every room is unique and built into the old cave houses which make them very special. An extra plus for the hospitality of the staff, the great atmosphere and tasty food at the restaurant and the vicinity to the attractions. The only complaint there might be is that the breakfast offers nothing more than juice and pastries (ask for coffee!). We very much recommend Matera and le Dodici Lune to anyone travelling to Italy. We would love to stay there again.

El lugar es ideal para Matera y dormir en una de sus cuevas. El hotel está excelentemente situado en la parte antigua, con buenas instalaciones (para ser una cueva). Un poco caro pero merece la pena. Las habitaciones son amplias.

Spettacolare!

Spettacolare, appunto, sotto ogni punto di vista. Hotel ricavato direttamente nei sassi della splendida Matera. Camere pulite e comodissime, tutte dotate di accesso indipendente. Colazione abbondante e con prodotti tipici. Personale gentilissimo. Posizione strategica sia per chi viaggia per piacere, che per chi, come noi, viaggiava per lavoro. Parcheggio a 50 metri dall'entrata, e questo, a Matera, è un plus non indifferente! Non vedo l'ora di tornarci!

dormire nei sassi di Matera...un'esperinza unica

la posizione dell'hotel è ottima e molto suggestiva in quanto in piena zona dei sassi...la camera enorme perchè ricavata da una casa-grotta è molto particolare ed anche se i soffitti in tufo tendono a perdere piccole briciole dormire qui è veramente una bella esperienza!!!
...unica pecca c'era un televisore inutilizzabile perchè senza digitale terrestre!!...il ristorante del residence è una meraviglia e con prezzi assolutamente onesti e la colazione compresa nella camera è fantastica...una vasta scelta di dolci tipici e un po' di focaccia di Matera che è irresistibile!!!

Excellent hotel right in the Sassi

Fantastic hotel with outstanding service, beautiful rooms with plenty of space and the great atmosphere of the Sassi. The rooms are each in actual caves, modernised with taste and to great standards. Even in winter the rooms were warm and comfortable. The service was outstanding with an excellent breakfast and staff that spoke english fluently. Probably one of the best hotels I ever stayed in ...and I travel a lot. Excellent value for money as well. HIghly recomended!
