What a wonderful vacation! I stayed in early February 2026 on a mother-son getaway. We stayed in one of the spa suites and enjoyed the animals and the birds in the tree off our deck. I just can’t say enough great things about this place: the views (incredible sunsets), the food, Happy Hour cocktails, the pool, the friendly and attentive staff (shout out to Francisco, José, Roxy and Noelia). Be sure to rent a car and explore the area. And take advantage of the excursions that the hotel can book for you. Pura Vida! Gracias!

I can't say enough nice things about our stay here It's a beautiful, adults only hotel It feels like you're staying at a friends house if your friend has a beautiful mansion The staff however were what made the stay so great We loved Roxy, Jose, and Francisco We would stay again just to have them taking care of us Great food that seemed pricy until you go out to eat then we found it was actually the best choice to eat there Great breakfast included Beautiful pool with beautiful views Also a great place to see whales and wildlife

Wow what a place! It was marvellous from start to finish! The views spectacular! The staff are wonderful, we were served by Jose, Francisco and Roxy, they couldn’t have done anymore to make us feel special. The food was amazing each night, the attention to details from the chef is second to none.
The rooms were cleaned meticulously too.
I can’t recommend El Castillo enough. A truly magical slice of heaven!

The staff and facility were both fantastic. They exceeded all of are needs and desires. From our greeting when we arrived to our farewell actually out front. Both Francisco and Michelle came out to bid us a farewell. Francisco even assisted us in the parking which was somewhat tight spaces. Also we really enjoyed the food.both dinner and breakfast were delicious and attractively prepared. It was just a wonderful experience for our group of four

View is insane. Stunning. Short drive up a long road which is unusual for Costa Rica. Beautiful lobby and rooms. Well appointed rooms with everything you need. The staff are rockstars. They do it all. English and Spanish spoken by all. Franciso, Michele and Roxanne are an asset to the hotel. They understand service with a smile and learn preferences quickly. Right next to Ojachal and minutes away from Uvita. You won't want to leave.

The staff was so sweet and accommodating. The property was pristine along with the pool. Food was amazing every meal. Wildlife is very active (monkeys, birds, geckos, iguanas, scarlet macaws, butterfly’s, frogs etc). I always felt safe on the property and would recommend the largest suit to anyone who wants more privacy and quiet since the other rooms you can hear everything within the hotel. There are 3 beautiful beaches between 5-12min driving distance from the hotel. The staff recommends Playa Ventanas but I would recommend Playa Piñuelas apart of the Marino Bellena National Park. Very quiet beach that’s easier to swim or body board at.

This hotel is charming and lovely with 5 star rooms and dining. The bar had amazing drinks and it would be a very expensive hotel if it wasn’t directly on the highway. The views of the ocean are breathtaking but it’s literally on top of the highway so you hear and smell trucks and ambulances.

This hotel was beautiful, the room was large with a lovely king size 4 poster bed. We had a great view of the sunset every night from our patio or from the spectacular infiniti pool. We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel one night and the food was very good. The included breakfast was prepared fresh to order. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. I wish we would have stayed longer!

It is a beautiful hotel. Large room with everything functional. The lobby is nice with a beautiful pool. Incredible views both from lobby and room. But the thing that made this hotel stand out was the amazing service. I had a couple of issues because I biked there and the staff did everything they could to help me. Also, I ate at the restaurant and the food was made exactly as I asked and tasted great. Breakfast was very good. You will not be disappointed.

Charming Boutique Hotel, pleasant surprise

Very Wonderful, Amazing find last minute. Especially arriving in the pouring rain at night. Francisco was super inviting and then Carlos came to us as well with much hospitality. The chef put out amazing food for dinner and then we woke up the following morning to magnificent views and wildlife while eating breakfast by the pool. The breakfast was delicious and just as impressive as the dinner! A secret hideaway, should not be missed.

The property was spectacular with gorgeous views. The parking was not sufficient and I was asked twice to move my vehicle. I detected sewage smell in the night and that was a big turnoff. It was noisy with a big group visiting when we stayed. I expected more for the price. The staff were outstanding.

My husband and I felt so comfortable and welcomed at El Castillo. The staff was excellent!. Starting with Steve who greeted us the first day and was there throughout our stay. He was very polite and always willing to help. Luis and Rebecca the manager were also very helpful and offered advice and help with every question. We had our laundry done there, and they had it back to us the next day. Food was excellent and drinks delicious. The pool and living area are lovely. We loved the views from the pool and our room balcony. Love this place!

First the hotel is OVER 4 hours from the airport… just so you know. However, it’s is very quaint. It’s more like a couple haven if you want to get away n have some alone time. There is NO tv in the rooms. Room is well kept, nice and smells fresh. The staff is very nice. Hotel is very small about 9 or so rooms. The food is good, presentation is amazing. They will give you information about doing different tours n will also set them up… lastly, the view is breathtaking, one of the most beautiful I have seen.

The El Castillo Hotel was our favorite of all the 5 hotel's we stayed in over a 2 1/2 week vacation in Costa Rica. The minute we entered the beautiful lobby, the view almost knocked me over! The furnishings are so welcoming, then the infinity pool grabs your eyes looking like it flows to the ocean! The manager, Rebeca Villalobos has such a helpful, friendly yet professional staff who make sure your every need is met. Luis, Nicole and Sidely were wonderful, as everyone was. We stayed in Room 5, corner second floor, and the view of the Pacific and surrounding jungle like greenery and flowers were magical! The furnishings beautiful and all 3 of our rooms were spotless. There are only 9 rooms and none close to each other so we never heard another guest. It seemed the desire here was for peace and tranquility and that was obvious. This hotel was at the end of our trip and we had been on many tours throughout Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio so we never left the El Castillo enjoying all our delicious meals there and spending most time around the quiet pool or walking the grounds. We were sad that our trip was ending but were even more sad to leave this place of Paradise, the El Castillo. I hope we will return one day. With gratitude and thanks for the memories!

This has to have been the best service I’ve ever received at a hotel in my life. Everyone was so sweet and helpful and thoughtful from the planning stages to our stay and even called our next hotel to make sure we arrived safely. Rebeca was immediately responsive on email and helped plan all of our tours, spa plans, dinner reservations and transportation. She was so sweet and friendly and made sure everything was great. Marlon greeted us on arrival and was kind and professional, he was our server for several meals and helped make sure our car collected us on time and that he would stop at an atm for us. Jose was super fun and went out of his way to make us feel welcome, he knew his wines and when my partner asked about one of the coconut trees he went and grabbed a coconut and chopped off the top for us right there and stuck a straw in it! Talk about fresh! Also he made arrangements for the restaurant we went to to drive us back so we didn’t have to walk back in the dark after a few drinks. Erica was a sweet angel and made us cute bracelets and introduced us to the resident lizard Frank. We basically felt like we were with good friends the whole time. The resort is clean with outrageous views from the rooms and the infinity pool. We saw macaws and parrots and monkeys from the patio. It’s a beautiful place and we had an amazing time. I would say this is a relaxing place, not a party place. It’s beautiful and quiet and the food and cocktails are great.

Most amazing view in Uvita

We booked El Castillo based on location and the amazing views. Overall, it was a very good boutique hotel and we appreciated being in a small hotel to minimize being around too many people due to covid. The pool and outdoor area has one of the best views in Uvita area, it’s absolutely gorgeous. Downside is that there are only 6 loungers so if it happens to be a day where all guest are outside, it’s difficult to get a lounger, so I woke up early to snag them right away. The hotel is clean and airy, we were even upgraded to a larger room upon arrival which was amazing and offered an ocean view/balcony which was so perfect to watch sunsets. The bed was not the most comfortable and they only had 2 pillows on the bed, my husband and I both like having 2 each. When I asked for another pillow they didn’t have extras. Otherwise, the hotel rooms and hotel itself was clean and had great amenities. Shower/bathroom huge and nice. Overall, the hotel was great. The one HUGE downside is the food, it does not match the price or level of the hotel. My husband is a foodie and cooks for private events, so I know he is more critical than most, but even I noticed that the food was lacking. We only had dinner here one night due to the food being too pricey for what we were getting. We tried lunch to see if it differed and it was probably one of the worst burgers I have had. If they upgrade food, we would be back, otherwise the food was a big game changer for us.

This is a beautiful resort over looking the Pacific Ocean, with pristine sunsets, and amazing rooms. For once you really get more than you anticipated. The rooms are amazing with charm and very clean, and yes you can drink the pure water from the tap, without getting sick.
The staff are some of the best, from the front staff to the amazing culinary skill of chef Pablo! The sunsets in the infinity pool are just beautiful! You could spend your life exploring this area and never see it all. You will not get tired of watching macaws fly by or just up the road at Bamboo room, seeing monkeys in the trees. This is one of the best places on earth and we will be back soon.

This is a special place. The staff, the food and the hotel itself are all incredible. The chef Pablo is excellent and changes the menu daily to accommodate what is fresh locally. The food is excellent beyond expectations and he does an excellent job of blending local ingredients and traditional cuisine with French culinary technique. The bar is great. The place looks exactly like the pictures on their website so that is the best place to get an idea of what you are signing up for. The staff is helpful courteous and offer a level of service rarely seen in the states all without being cumbersome or stiff.

Out of this world

We chose El Castillo so that we could end our 3 week trip to Costa Rica in a little luxury... and it was just that from start to finish. It somehow combines this luxury with complete unpretentiousness which means you can enjoy every minute. The view from the hotel is breathtaking. We watched the stunning sunset every night from the pool deck.
What’s hard to put into words is the description of the fabulous staff who really make this place. They are charming, friendly, witty... they clearly love working here and that sense is palpable. They really went above and beyond without being overbearing. We miss you already and are dreaming of when we can come back!

If you are looking for a small boutique hotel with amazing ocean views, a beautiful infinity pool, unbelievable service, excellent breakfasts, dinners and cocktails, this is the “castle” for you. Ojochal is a small and spread out community but offers a peaceful location on the Costanera Sur convenient to many beaches, waterfalls, and zip lining and also places you within easy drives of Dominical, Uvita, Manuel Antonio and is just an hour and a half easy drive to Jaco. There are dozens of excellent restaurants in the area and even a bit of nightlife with a great bar (plus good bands) directly up the road from the hotel. The only negative I can say is for the next month there is a little bit of construction noise as the hotel adds two freestanding casitas but it honestly was minimal. And a TV in the room would have been appreciated at times. But there was great WiFi. And excellent AC! The personable staff, chef and bartenders at the hotel go way out of their way to make you feel like royalty. Wish we were back eating those delicious breakfasts with the unparalleled view! Talk about Pura Vida!

Amazing hotel!

This hotel was breathtakingly beautiful and the level of service is something I had never experienced before. I would love to go again and I can't say enough good things about Scott who took such good care of us before, after, and during our trip. The only suggestion is the rooms are not sound-proof and we can hear everything, and the curtains don't block light so we were up very early every day and a little hard to fall asleep at night with the noise from downstairs. Not enough to not go back but that is our only complaint!

Gorgeous Views, Excellent Staff, Felt Pampered

We had one night open on our Costa Rican adventure and found this wonderful hotel. We did have a little trouble finding it but once we did we were extremely happy!
We were greeted with a welcome drink at the little bar in the lobby which opened onto a beautiful infinity pool with amazing views of the beach/ocean. Our only disappointment was the rainy weather which made for a gloomy day. On a clear sunny day the views must truly be amazing!
Before going to our room we ordered a little lunch from the restaurant and sat outside at a poolside table. Very delicious food as well.
When we got to our room it was lovely and also had a balcony with chairs to gaze upon the fabulous view as well.
It's a very small hotel, which we loved. Most of the guests were gone until early evening when they returned from excursions. Quite a fun and lively crowd at the bar before dinner.
We were lazy in the morning so by the time we went down for breakfast we were alone and felt very pampered and served a wonderful huge breakfast. Everything delicious and fresh!
Tho our stay was short it was wonderful....many thanks to all the staff for making us feel so special!

Very nice upscale hotel

If you are tired of checking for moist and smelly pillows in this humid climate and if you can treat yourself you something more pricey for a while, i doubt you will be disappointed here.
This little boutique hotel comes with style, designer elements, great ocean view, beautiful pool area and great attention and service from the dedicated staff.
We were lucky to get one of the larger rooms and felt like royals. Beautiful comfortable bed.
A couple of (i believe fair) negatives to point out for a hotel in this price segment are: the lack of tv in the room and a not as fancy or filling breakfast as you might expect. The proximity to the Costanera road might disturb some, but we had a fairly quiet night.

Perfect Getaway

I love El Castillo! everything about it was perfect. from the hotel, to the amazing view, and the wonderful staff. everyone there is so friendly and helpful. they always want to make sure you have a fantastic day. this hotel has the perfect view along with the infinity pool that you can watch the sunset in. the food was also delicious. loved breakfast every morning. this is definitely the place you'd want to stay if you want to relax and or go on an adventure. GM scott was always talking to every guest that walks in, and the staff goes above and beyond! my husband and I went for our honeymoon. I will definitely miss this place and already looking forward to our next trip back!!

The nicest place we have ever stayed. Heaven!

El Catillo is a stunning hotel! The staff could not have done more, they were friendly and kind and so helpful! They even came to collect us from Quepos (about an hour away) when we were struggling to get there and welcomed us with a delicious cocktail when we arrived! The hotel has a phenomenal view over the infinity pool to the Pacific Ocean and there are some beautiful sunsets. It is easy to park a car, arrange tours, and walk to lovely local beaches. We got a room upgrade and had a lovely room with a huge, comfortable bed. The staff kept the room clean and even did laundry for us. The restaurant serves delicious food which is not too expensive and the barman makes fantastic cocktails. We can't wait to come back and stay here again, we never wanted to leave! Thank you to all the fantastic staff.

Better than anticipated!

Our stay at El Castillo was something we will remember until our next trip back! The hotel is immaculate overlooking the ocean and you have the rain forest directly behind you which make for some amazing pics! Hotel staff were super friendly and always looking to make our stay more pleasurable! Can not say enough about how great this place is!
