Breakfast not bad,evening meal can only be 2 courses or 3 courses.We found the food quite bland and the amount of flies in the eating area was not good,at breakfast time the flies were on the croissants and pastries.Comfortable bed but cobwebs on ceilings in double room,no toiletries in bathroom now,staff advised that they stopped supplying them recently.Had to drive to Asda to purchase some.

Everything looked very nice on the surface, fading a bit in places, we went for my husbands birthday, expected a little effort as the staff knew, however it wasnt mentioned at all, also it could of been a bit cleaner, large cobweb in bathroom, just a few little issues that you dont expect at this price point, absolutely beautiful gardens though and very nice breakfast

Room good, although the standard size double bed was a disappointment, especially comparing it to other hotels and given the price paid. Room easily big enough for a kingsize or super king!

The grounds and garden views were beautiful. It was very quiet and tranquil. Buildings exterior was beautiful. The inside lobby, bar, lounge were lovely decorated and accessories to tie in very grand. The beds were comfortable. But on a down side the bedrooms however i felt didnt match up with the rest i personally thought they needed some refreshing up....thats when you could eventually get into the room we had issues with this which when we mentioned it to reception its a known fact people have the same issues apparently maintenance cant fix the problem? Plus the paint needed re touching up, wallpaper coming away from wall/ceiling in some areas, the sink cracked, dented bin,.

Such a shame.

Was really looking forward to this and yet was underslwhelmed. Went away for a weekend in May 24 and booked this as a treat. Quite a tired place which is a shame as the grounds are lovely. In need of a good paint. We stayed in a top attic room which was slightly damp in the bathroom with visible mould. The window (sash) didn't stay open and was in need of some TLC. The meal was again disappointing. Such a shame.

Hotel excellent but not evening meal

The hotel itself was lovely and our room perfect. However the food served for the evening meals was not so good. The fish dishes were OK but when they describe a beef item as being served with root vegetables and when it arrived the vegetables would not have filled a desert spoon and the parsnip was hard this was very disappointing. We would stay at the hotel again but would go elsewhere for an evening meal.

Really enjoyed our two night stay . Lovely hotel in a fabulous setting . Our room was spacious and comfortable { Kildale } . The breakfast offered a great choice . We ate in the restaurant both nights and was pleased with the menu/ standard and service . We stayed midweek and the amount of guests was ideal . However we could imagine the hotel could feel overly busy when hosting a wedding .

One of the mattresses in our room (desperately) needs replacement. If you’re in the Skylark room, be sure to let your partner take the left side of the bed /mattress

Good Food...Bad House Keeping

Hotel seems to be trading on former glory days, 4 stars...I do not think so !

Its in dire need of Investment to return it to where it once was.

Very limited bar choice couldn't even have a Sauvignon Blank by the glass.

Our room (Jenny Bradley) overall could have been lovely but was let down badly by house keeping and bits of tissue stuffed in the needing attention windows.

No TV throughout the hotel due to a transmitter fire on 10th August, 6 weeks on when we checked in, still no TV... would have been nice to know this information before our arrival or even on our arrival, we didn't know till we attempted to switch it on.

The food was good. Paul (the Operations Manager) is a great asset to the Grinkle dealing with guest problems under difficult circumstances. All the staff were polite and friendly and did their best with the underfunded resources available to them.

We stayed here for our mini honeymoon, our only regret is not booking for longer.

It is an absolutely beautiful property, amazing grounds and views immediately on arrival. Extremely peaceful, always.

The staff are very welcoming, friendly and professional. The hotel is immaculate.
Our room was lovely with an extensive hot drink selection provided. Very large bathroom too.

Breakfast was a full English, very delicious and served quickly, there's also juice, cereal, toast etc, plenty to choose from.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone, we will definitely be returning.

The location is perfect for visiting the surrounding area.
The gardens are lovely, the staff are very friendly and very accommodating. The rooms and the place itself are very clean. I have stayed in plenty of hotels around the world, I can not fault this one.

Staff wonderful as was food but I do not think it was worth the price i.e the room bed was a really small double the windows in the bathroom all the paint was coming of .We didnt conplain about the room as we knew they were full. Saying all that I the good things outway the bad.

Paid for a Deluxe Suite, arrived at hotel to be given a basic, dusty, double room..with a terrible bed, hotel staff first tried to convince us this was a deluxe double (no king size bed, no slippers and gown etc), then blamed it all on the \"current situation\" (covid-19 I assume), then resorted to \"it's not our fault, we only work here!)
We left without paying or staying, fortunately we found some excellent accommodation in Whitby.

Cleanliness of our room was adequate, but it appears the maid's duster dodges the top of the bedside lampshades. We reported the shower head was part blocked, the handyman did attend to this whilst we were out for the day. The bar only had draught cider and bottled beers available. It was cashless, and the contactless payment machine didn't work. Only minor issues, but issues non-the-less.

The hotel is very comfortable. We enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea plus an excellent breakfast the next morning. The grounds are well kept and there are plenty of places to sit out, weather permitting. The staff were very helpful and efficient.It is also not far from lovely scenery: moors and coast

Perfect peaceful stay

We loved this hotel. The check in was friendly and efficient. The bags were taken to the room as we were shown to it. The room was clean, big spacious and in very good condition.
The bar has a full size snooker table which was an excellent way to spend some time in the evening.
The hotel is so quiet at night, we had a very restful night.
The breakfast was delicious, a choice of a full English or components of.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful old country manor

The hotel is situated in beautiful surrounds, if a little out of the way, but that's what most people go here for I guess - tranquillity. We stayed as part of a weekend trip to nearby Whitby (20-25 minute drive) and Staithes (5-10 minute drive). Room got a little warm as there's no A/C and it was the hottest day of the year but still managed to sleep alright in what was a very comfy bed. Check-in and out process was seamless.

The Downton Abbey experience!

Knowing that it would be a little out of our price range, I booked it anyway. It didn't disappoint. Everything about the experience was great... good position as a base for touring, for relaxing etc etc.
