I don't like sharing bathrooms but they are kept clean and my room was near a \"luxurious\" one. Everything you need is in the common areas, which makes you feel more connected to others. Restaurant and service AMAZING. I loved the reindeer steak. Breakfast included= needed and fantastic way to start your day in the arctic.

This type of property isn’t for everyone. But for the type of people who seek a unique style of accommodation, this property is for you. The staff, the ones I interacted with, were very friendly and helpful. The room I selected was exactly what I needed. No luxuries just the minimum for what I needed. I would return to this property again and will suggest it to anyone I know wishing to travel to Longyearbyen. Thank you for an amazing trip of a lifetime.

I love Mary Ann's Polarrig in Longyearbyen. I had one of the best salmon dinners I have ever had last night. And I have had quite a few good ones around the Arctic. They have updated a few of the bathrooms since I was here before.

Maryann’s is cozy, quiet, and heartwarming oasis in a desert of corporate modern hotels bleached of all feeling. It is a very walkable distance to the city center but far enough away to shake off the town when you want to. Having lunch and dinner as an available option on site is convenient but we very much enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Everything was so fresh and made with obvious love of serving. I would definitely return here.

Great budget stay

We thorough enjoyed our 3 night stay in this lovely quirky establishment. Although the rooms are not massive, they were big enough and it was so much more interesting than staying in a bland corporate hotel. The staff were amazing and the huge lounge area had a lovely homely feel. Don't worry about the shared bathrooms, they're large, well appointed and there are plenty of them. We would definitely stay again, and would recommended it to anyone. Thanks to all the team there who helped make our trip so memorable.

I stayed for four nights at Mary-Ann's Polarrigg.
Overall it was good. The single room was clean and the bed comfortable. A roller blind on the window helped cut out the 24 hour sunlight at night.
The shared bathrooms were kept very clean. My olny complaint was that the show stall drainage was not great and a couple of days the shower soap dispenser was empty.
The restaurant is very nice. The menu is a bit limited if you are vegetarian. They had one vegetarian option, and it was the same every night.
The hotel staff were all very nice. Everyone speaks excellent English.
It's about a five minute walk into the center of town. The airport bus goes to this hotel.

A nice authentic hotel

This is an authentic hotel converted from old miner barracks. Inside the hotel is like a museum. I loved the every corner of this hotel. I enjoyed my stay there big time. Its location is good - not on the main street, but just a little outside with an excellent view of the valley and mountains and close by the fjord.

The shared bathroom situation has never been a problem. There are plenty pathhrooms in the hallway. I never had to compete for a bathroom.

Their breakfast is very good. They also offer lunch and dinner on premises.

I would definitely go back and stay there again.

Amazing and unique place to stay in Longyearbyen

This an amazing place to stay. The location is perfect. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. There is a beautiful and large shared living room with comfortable furniture, fireplaces and nice spaces to work and free coffee and tea available 24 hours a day. The dining room is a beautiful greenhouse filled with plants from all over the world. The breakfast is as good as any five star hotel that I have stayed in and included in the price of the room. We had a lunch and dinner at the restaurant and both we very good. It was a perfect place to try the local cuisine. The staff is very kind and helpful. A perfect place to stay for your visit to Longyearbyen.

A Unique Place in a Unique Place!

We really enjoyed this hotel. It's comfortable with everything we needed, but also has an adventurous vibe. It's very unique in it's decoration/layout, and is a lot of fun to explore. Staff was nice/helpful, and the breakfast is pretty good too! They really embrace the Svalbard spirit, and as such staying here really enhances the entire trip. Great location as well since all the excursions pick up here, and it's a short walk to the main part of town. Would definitely recommend the Polarrigg!

Place is super funky but in a very cool way, with lots of arctic decor and historical photos on the walls. Hallways at night can be a little loud with people walking around into the late hours and walls a little thin but i had some earplugs which shut out the noise. The common areas of this place were awesome, very different than any other hotel in Svalbard, very cozy and relaxing, nice soft old school jazz on the radio, plenty of couches for lounging and fast internet too. Internet in the rooms was fast too. Rooms are very small and simple but comfortable enough as a simple place to sleep. The communal bathrooms and showers were always kept tidy and clean and numerous enough that one didn't have to wait to use them. The common areas are where you can comfortably hang out and relax as well as meet other travelers if you wish. I would definitely recommend for those that are looking for something with a bit of arctic character, outside the box thinking.

Fantastic place to stay

I absolutely loved every minute of my stay here. The location is less than 10 minutes walk to the town. From the friendliness of the staff to the chilled out atmosphere this place cannot be faulted. Beautiful restaurant serving outstanding food and a bar serving a varied selection of drinks. If/when I return to Svalbard I won't hesitate to stay at Mary Ann's Polarrig again.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights in October, 2021. The hotel employees were wonderful. There's a very nice lobby where you're welcomed with 24/7 coffee/tea. The staff were genuine and fun to hang out with. Breakfast in the morning was equally just as nice. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Svalbard for even a nice. You won't regret it.

The most cozy hotel I've ever been in. The hotel lobby feels like I'm back at my grandma's house. Also the people are super friendly and help you book adventures in Svalbard. Town is just .5km away over a bridge it makes for a fun little adventure to get groceries. The free breakfast spread is freaking incredible too. A wonderful start to your day.

This place was amazing to stay at? The location is beautiful and it’s very close to the city center there is a bus that takes you right to the entrance and tours come pick you up from the gates. The hotel itself is beautiful the rooms are clean and the common spaces comfortable. I stayed in a miners room which was small and cozy and served as a great base to get out and explore Svalbard. You don’t want to be in your room long while you’re here. The food in the green house was fantastic, especially the breakfast. The staff was incredible. Nicola Boyana Tina Vitalii and the cooks are all kind friendly people who take an interest in you having a great stay, they really made my stay at Mary Anns wonderful. I’ve stayed at much fancier more expensive places and gotten service and comfort not nearly close to this. I highly recommend staying here.

A quirky authentic taste of polar life

This is a quirky unique old hotel with a real as well as fun sense of the past in what is really a frontier town. It is in the old now more industrial part of the town which is less attractive but close to the docks and a short walk over a glacial stream into the newer part of town. The airport bus stops at the door. It was comfortable and the staff were so helpful. The dining room, a mini hot house in this stark Arctic setting, was amazing and quirky and the breakfasts and dinner excellent. There is an old fashioned feel to the place but so bright and colourful to ward off no doubt long months of darkness and the stark barren mountains that rear over the town. One of our more delightful and memorable places we have stayed.

Great staff, good location, but needs attention

Marys anne's has an interesting selling point as a rustic place in the former coal mining center of longyearbyen. Although one might expect some compromise given the cost of materials and upkeep, the pace is run down and its apparent they are cutting corners. I live in Norway and work in the Arctic and have seen some hotels of similar high cost but much better value. The rooms are fine, but the baths are substandard with no soap provided for guests and built like a travel trailer. The breakfast was meager, the only hot food was some scrambled or hard boiled eggs and they ran out of juice. My take on this hotel was that they are now coasting on the tourist trade and doing little to attract guests since they are often fully booked.

Expensive, cheap, you better stay somewhere else.

The room was very small. There were almost no closet space, just one small cabinet with only two hangers.Not nearly enough for two adults on a winter trip to Svalbard. Since there were no closet space, the gear and clothes had to lay in the luggage and the window sill. Some basket furniture were occupying half of the free floor space, totally unuseful.
The room was overheated, not helped by the piping for the radiators running through the room, and there were no ventilation, in order to cool it down you had to open the windows. Which meant gear stored on the window sill fell out.
One electric socket was half way out the wall, and some of lightbulbs were not working.
The breakfast was rather simple, one kind of bread, scrambled eggs and not much else.
We payed premium. It was not.
On the positive side, both kinds of herring sauce was very good, and the staff was nice.

Wonderful - felt I was very much part of the community - could not have had a warmer reception. Rooms basic but fine. Communal areas excellent and very homely. Real explorer / coal miner feel. Alas jacuzzi was broken which was a shame after my 8 days on a yacht at sea but c'est la vie. I will definitely stay here again and bring my entire family next time.

If you want a quiet nights sleep - this is not the place for you! The combination of super squeaky floorboards in the hallway, people stomping up and down the hall all night long, paper thin walls, constant slamming of doors and the bar being located right next to bedrooms was not fun. Don't say you weren't warned!!

So the basic rooms are very small, also very noisy when people come back in the evening or wake up in the morning, which cant be helped. Shared bathroom wasn't an issue, there was plenty of them and very clean! Size of rooms not an issue as we only slept there, plenty to do in Longyearbyen during the day and evening. Stayed in a larger room for the second part of our stay and it was fantastic! Weird smell that wouldn't leave the bathroom but again was very clean, and the larger rooms very spacious and homely. Black out blinds were adequate for the 24 hour sun but if you struggle sleeping I would recommend taking a sleeping mask. Staff were friendly and helpful. The whole place was like a museum, definitely a unique place to stay! And a good location as it's only a 5-10 minute walk from the town.

Overall hotel was nice, very cozy. Staff was nice and helpful. The room didn't have a TV nor internet connection, but there was a separate room with TV and internet. In the hotel there was restaurant and also a separate kitchen where guests can make their own food which is very convenient for longer stay. The only minor drawback was that the temperature in the room was slightly too high.

This hostel had staff that were worm and friendly. It is a basic place with shared bathrooms. However they were clean and I never had to wait to shower or use the toilet facilities. It has a large, comfortable reading room with good wifi connections. Although expensive my friend and I ate in the restaurant the reindeer steaks were marvelous!
Not a place for everyone - those who prefer greater luxury and privacy, but I would not hesitate to recommend it to the budget conscious.

Quirky Hotel - Great fun!

Absolutely loved this quirky hotel at the end of the world. The facilities are excellent, rooms warm and comfortable. Restaurant is good but has a limited menu. Decor is simply amazing and the outside totally belies the inside. This was an old mining camp and Mary-Anne (who still runs it) has done a fantastic job in turning it into a hotel. We loved the fact that we could choose to eat at the welcoming restaurant, where the staff could not be friendlier, or use the little kitchen to prepare our own meal. The bar is well stocked and cosy and invites you to linger. We had a lovely en-suite room with modern bathroom but there are also hostel type rooms.

The town is a short walk where there is a small supermarket, restaurants and shops. Good outdoor clothing at excellent prices. The whole is island duty free and the perfect place to get your gear if you are heading off to the Arctic.

The room was small but fine. Lobby area was lovely. Restaurant was really good. Downfall was our room backed up to an area where vehicles seemed to come and go at all hours of the night despite the tiny town. We had our window open because it was so hot in the room so noise outside kept us up most the night. It was hard to find the lady at reception to book tours which are one of the few things to do Spitsbergen in the summer.

Great for the price. Short walk into town (less than 10 minutes). There are many bathrooms so even if you don't have a bathroom in your room they are only 1-2 doors away. Few amenities in room (just towels and sheets/pillow). You need to go to the lounge for wifi but it is very comfortable. All of the excursions & airport shuttles will pick you up from here. Cool history but it is very comfortable. No black out drapes so bring an eye mask in the summer.

great location, very accessible to everything you need in town, helpful staff and a very comfortable, Nordic feel. hot tub and sauna were great at the end of a long day. would highly suggest to anyone to stay here.

Such a charming, cool place to stay. I stayed there during Christmas and the Christmas decorations outside were amazing The exterior and interior in general is full of interesting details . I stayed in a single room with shared bath, and it was never a queue to the bathroom. But the walls are very thin, so you can hear a lot of sounds from your neighbours, when they open and close the doors, walk in the corridor, talk on the phone...whatever, you will hear it. It was still calm enough during the night, so I slept ok. They provide complimentary earplugs in the reception and are aware of the challenge with lack of soundproofed rooms. I understand that they want to keep the place authentic and my overall experience of my stay was still very positive even if I am quite noise sensitive. Nice staff, good breakfast in the wonderful Vinterhagen full of plants, and a cosy livingroom where you can sit and read a book or maybe get to know some new people from all around the world. Also nice that they have a kitchen where you can make your own food. 6-7 minutes walk to the city of Longyearbyen. If you want a unique hotel experience and are prepared that the rooms themselves are of basic standard, I very much recommend polarriggen. Here you get the bonus of experiencing all that other stuff this place has to offer, as it is a place with soul, athmosphere, history and creativity in every corner.
