Very central. Just a short walk to all amenities. Quiet and accessible. Probably has fewer facilities than the other hotels in the same hotel group but it’s not an issue. Serves as a base. Up to the guests to decide how much they wish to explore. We took the snowmobile tour and it was splendid.

Svalbard Hotell -The Vault was a perfect no-frills base for my six day visit to Svalbard, including each day an activity organised by Svalbard Adventures, with pick up and return from The Vault. The front door is open 24/7, with a usually young member of staff on reception. Access to the room is by code, with a comfortable bed, a very odd TV (which seemed to show the same programmes very day), and an excellent shower. My room did not have a desk, which was awkward. The black out blinds were effective. There was a full buffet breakfast every day in the breakfast room - which became a Sushi and Noodle restaurant in the evening. I tried it on my first evening, the huge menu was surptising given that all food is imported into Svalbard. Most days, except when on the excellent 6 hour glacier cruise, I had lunch in the popular Gruene Cafe, brilliant sandwiches, and interesting people (from 42 countries) to talk to. Evenings, except for the Wilderness Evening with Reindeer Soup, at the Stationen Restaurant opposite the Kronenbourg Pub, good hamburgers. Both a few minutes walk from The Vault.

The breakfast room was pretty small and cosy, but I had no issues finding a space, and the food was delicious! The staff were super friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, thank you for a wonderful trip!

Convenient spot and a comfortable room. The only real issue is the total absence of anywhere in the room to put things, except for hooks. There are so many spaces for shelves, but no, no shelves, nowhere for toothbrushes, nowhere for underclothes. A tiny shelf next to the bed with about 2 square inches of space. And instead of giving you solid tables, they give you soft ottomans, so you can stack clothes but nothing that requires a level base. That said, it's a nice clean convenient place.

The people were very friendly. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet. I did ask for a room clean after 3 days and only the bed was made and bathroom wiped down, no clean sheets.
It would have been helpful to understand there is a way around the bridge so we didn’t have to lug 50lb bags up and down 16 steps.
The breakfast was a food safety horror show. Cold eggs, bacon, sausage, a food inspector’s nightmare. If inspected, it would be shut down.

I quite like The Vault’s relaxing casual style. Interior of the room is simple but modern twist. Once you used it, feel like home. I like reception area’s free tea and coffee self service. We went out then came back hotel and bit rest at ground floor sofa, then went back shopping again (shopping area is just opposite side of road). We requested same room as our last year’s stay. They gave us that room was very appreciated. The breakfast was reasonable spreads. Centre of Longyearbyen town, very handy for shopping and sightseeing.

The hotel is in the town centre. But you need to walk a bit and go through a bridge between the airport shuttle bus stop to the hotel door. (Taxi can drive to the hotel door step. )
There is a grey dust spot on my quilt cover.

I have never been to a hotel where you have to take your shoes off at the door. They do provide wool slippers in your room. The local custom dates back to when the coal miners were told to take their shoes off because they were so dirty. The staff was helpful. The breakfast was good. The room was fine. I would use this hotel again

Good place to land in Longyearbyen

All the hotels in Svalbard are a little pricey, but this one is in the center of town, close to UNIS (the university center) and the shop, and it has a very nice breakfast. Best of all is the helpful and pleasant front desk people. The Vault offers dinner but didn't say anything about it when I checked in and have no obvious signs for it. Because I learned about it only when I left, I cannot judge it, though I can report that it is some kind of Asian fusion restaurant. But many restaurants are a very short walk away.

This hotel is located right in town near all the restaurants and stores, it’s the perfect walking distance to everything. The staff was very friendly and helped book a boat trip for me and they were all very knowledgeable. The room was a perfect size for two people and the beds were very comfortable. This hotel situated very close walking distance for Longyearbyen’s shopping centre and restaurants. Inside the hotel tiny but very good Sushi restaurant there. I’m Japanese. I’ve never tasted good like this long time. Room itself was very comfortable and well equipped. Less clothes hangers but plenty of hooks and big shelves. There were 5 windows in our room. Bit struggled to close rolling blackout screens. TV control was little complicated but gradually found out how to operate. The room was very clean and room slippers were great.

The hotel was comfortable and well located. However, there was no shelving to put your things in the room. I fly from Australia which is a very long flight and arrived at the hotel very tired. The room wasn't ready which is understandable and I had to wait 2.5hrs to get to my room. I asked the girl on reception if there was anywhere for guests to wait and were they coffee / tea facilities. She said no - we don't have any coffee for guests - it is on order. Later in my room I washed my hair and the hair dryer started billowing smoke and had a fire smell. I immediately unplugged it. I told reception - same girl - and it was removed the next day. I then asked if it could be replaced and told by the same girl on reception - Oh we don't have another one - we will have to order one!!!! I could not dry my hair for 3 days!!!! I ended up with a very bad cold. The accommodation was expensive so I think a hairdryer could have been sourced from somewhere - the supermarket had hairdryers!!!!!!!

I was upgraded to the Svalbard Hotell Polfareren so my review is for this hotel. The hotel staff were nice but i didn't feel the same warmth of the staff as what I experienced at the Mary-Ann's Polarrigg the previous four nights. That should be a surprise for any guest considering this hotel costs $150 USD more a night. I was given a room across the street in an older building. The Orbitz website says there was an elevator but there was only a service elevator which was a turn off due to the heavy luggage that i was carrying. The view from my room was outstanding. The breakfasts didn't have much of a variety compared to the Mary-Ann's Polarrigg (which was a surprise). When I return to Svalbard, I will not stay here again. it was an ok hotel or a 6/10 rating.

The hotel was perfect ! Beautiful location which helped! Weather was -5 outside but the hotel was lovely and cosy. Lots of candles everywhere and was spotlessly clean. Our room had lots of windows and a great view of the mountains. We visited when it was the polar night so there was no daylight but the room has sufficient blackout curtains and blinds for the midnight sun period.
The staff in the hotel are helpful and friendly, we spoke to Tobias one evening who is very knowledgeable on the local area and helped us with our search for the northern lights. Will defend be back to Svalbard in the summer months and will 100% stay at the vault! Thanks!

The staff here were genuinely friendly and helpful, happy to sort out tours for us and clearly knew the local area. The room was a bit small and basic but warm and clean. It would be nice if the windows opened a bit further. Shoes off at the door policy, not an issue, breakfast tasty and plentiful. Very handy for the high street and local bars. Some shelves in the room would be useful. The one holding the kettle is about 10cm wide and 30cm long! No real complaints at all.

This hotel exceeded expectations. Nice, new, quiet, comfortable beds and room, great staff, great breakfast, great shower, central location, and even a good view. The room was a little bit small by U.S. standards, but we expected that, so it wasn't an issue.
If I were to return to Svalbard, the first thing I would do as part of my planning would be to try to book this hotel again.

The Vault only opened in February this year so everything is pristine! Very quiet hotel beds very comfortable, brilliant 'Blackout blinds' & excellent breakfast.
Just one point - when airport bus drops you near the bridge - it is easier to walk with suitcase bit further on the road than hump it over the bridge!

This hotel is very new and comfortable, with good rooms and breakfast. At the moment it is next to a building site for another hotel but there was no noise at night. It is slightly let down by the staff who attend to the rooms, who are very stingy with supplies and when towels were left for replacement took those away, but didn't always provide replacements. Reindeer are usually visible from the windows.

It's a smart new hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Daily cleaning is thorough and the included breakfast buffet is good. A kettle and instant coffee and teabags are provided. A good bed, TV, bathroom, heating, wifi. No problems with noise despite construction going on nearby. My only criticism would be the lack of storage space, there is only a coat stand, so you either live out of your cases or spread things around the room and it's not a very big room, the (double) bed takes up most of it. I managed fine on my own but a couple would find it rather cramped I think. It's right opposite the main shops etc and the airport bus stops outside, all the tour operators pick up from the hotel. Not cheap, but no accommodation is up in Svalbard.
