Great find for our visit to Newbury. Breakfast included, 4 options to choose from and served in the pub restaurant. Also ate there both nights, food and service excellent. Room had all you needed, large room plus walk in shower.

Lovely village pub . Separate building with rooms so no noise from the pub. Double bed ,wardrobe, bed side table and lamp with a desk (tea and coffees and bottle water). Large wet room/bathroom suitable for disabled access.

Drinks/ plenty of choice.
Food/ breakfast excellent cooked to order.
Restaurant food/ good food well cooked not much choice on menu although some specials were offered.
Rooms/ Clean basic, tea & coffee provided with kettle.
Maid service every day WiFi not available in Rooms.
We weren’t familiar with this part of the world and assumed this Hotel was in area with other similar venues, this wasn’t the case in fact it was pretty much isolated from other Pubs or shops.
Overall it was a nice stay with pleasant, helpful and attentive staff.

Lovely friendly service with great food. The accommodation was well presented and had everything needed hit the room was freezing cold and only a light blanket and sheet on the bed. Even once I worked out how to turn the radiator on the room was cold as was the bathroom.

Staying at Ye Olde Red Lion was a fun experience. It is probably the most unique place I've stayed with its blending of old, old and new and updated rooms. I would stay here again. We were in Arran Room which was very nice other than the mattress should be replaced. It is uncomfortable. The outside grounds need some cleaning and TLC, too. (There had just been a big storm/rain which might account for some of the mess and debris around the grounds.) Overall, an interesting stay with great breakfast and friendly staff.

We received such a friendly welcome from the owners and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and the service was excellent. We never waited long for food or a drink at the bar with the landlords really keeping an eye on things. The room we had was very large and comfortable in a cottage just outside. Good choice of food which was served to perfection. We have stayed in many pubs over the years and this may have not been the poshest but was certainly one of the most welcoming. We felt very comfortable here

Weekend Stay for Newbury Races

We booked two rooms, one for my wife and I and another for my wife's mother and husband for Friday and Saturday to attend Newbury Racecourse. On arrival late afternoon on the Friday we were greeted at the bar and shown to our rooms. We stayed in the thatched cottages which consisted of beautiful original beams and features which made it very idyllic. We had booked a table in the pub for that evening and enjoyed a really nice freshly cooked meal and stayed in to the evening. The pub itself was very busy with locals as well as people staying, so I would recommend booking a table in advance to be sure. We booked on the Friday for the Saturday night as well and that was accommodated ok, as it seemed slightly less busy on the Saturday. We ordered breakfast the previous evening and this was ready within minutes of the time we advised we would be in the following morning. We had a variety between us, the full English was plentiful a by all accounts delicious, I have to say that the salmon and egg on rounds was amazing. In terms of getting to Newbury and back this was only £20.00 by taxi, so with four of us, £5 each was well worth it, but I would recommend pre-booking if going to the races or another event you need to arrive by a certain time, as we booked a week in advance and some were already full. This pub really is worth a visit and in our opinion it was great value for money. The bar staff also need a mention as they were so polite and catered for anything you needed.

Nice country pub with rooms in outbuildings. As it is a pub be prepared to evening noises coming from drinking customers especially in warm days. Convenient for having a pint or two with no driving back to the hotel. Very friendly staff and a proper breakfast. Clean all around and soft bed.

Amazing little place

This place is an absolute gem of a fine. We stayed here overnight. Our room was lovely, plenty of room with en-suite bathroom - it had everything we needed. Bed was comfy with light bedding which helped with the warm weather. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was first class and really good value for money. Breakfast was the best full English we have had in a long time. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. We have already booked for another visit later in the year.

The stay was excellent. We had lunch, dinner and stayed the night so had breakfast too. All the food was superb. Plenty of space in the car park and the staff were very efficient. The only dowside was the main waitress Anna was not that friendly. She did her job very efficiently but seemed quite miserable really, but as I said, she was very efficient. We also tipped her very well and we didn't even get a thank you which was quite disappointing. Would stay again.

Hidden Gem!

A little hidden gem! Minutes from the M4 but no so close to hear any noise.

Nice easy check in. Our accommodation was part of a converted thatched cottage, and was stunning. Tea and coffee making facilities provided, as were shower gel etc which was a nice touch.

A little bit of noise from the boiler cupboard throughout the night. We were forewarned about this by the host. It wasn't majorly noisey, but it is noticeable.

We had a meal in the pub that night, which was served in good time and was very tasty. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely spot on! You order what ypu want and when on a sheet the night before and is ready for you for your chosen time.

The price per night was very reasonable and was in line, if not cheaper, than other mainstream hotels. The room had far more charm and character than a uniform hotel room!

We are regular travellers to the area and will definitely be using this accommodation again.

A very very pleasant, covid friendly stay :-)

From arrival to departure, this place certainly lived up to the good reviews and ratings it has. Very friendly and welcoming service, very clean everywhere and comfortable bed and well stocked tea and coffee facilities with biscuits too! We stayed for five nights and everyday was treated like we were a new guest in terms of a very clean and refreshed room. The breakfast choice is good and plentiful and cooked to perfection. This is a good place to stay and situated in a nice little English village. Plenty of parking too. Can't find any faults so would recommend!

Pleasant stay and surprisingly quiet for an inn!

The room was different to the one in the pictures on Hotels.com but was comfortable and clean. The local town of Chieveley is very quiet so we spent the day exploring the area by car and had lunch in Newbury. The breakfast provided was nice and the owners were very attentive.

Really enjoyed our stay - although so very tempted to write a terrible review so it ends up framed and in the pub toilets!! Robin and Susan were perfect hosts, with a friendly welcome and everything we could ask for. The room was very clean and welcoming (although the bed was a little lumpy) but still slept like a baby, as the room was warm and it was so quiet. We ate in the pub and it was scrummy - portions are pretty large, and a good selection of gins! Make sure you leave loads of time for breakfast.

We stayed a Ye Olde Red Lion to visit Highclere, and it's about 15 mins drive, so super handy. Ample parking - what's not to love.

Convenient to the M4 and away from motorway traffic noise, but the room was poorly ventilated for a hot summer's evening. Chose a light evening meal, but was VERY disappointed and a poor reaction from the management who were very curt in their response to our complaint. However, breakfast was good !

I've stayed in Newbury every week with work for the past 3 months and this is the first time I have felt compelled to leave a review. With my usual accommodation booked up, I booked Ye Old Red Lion and I am so glad I did! The room was brilliant, a very cute two storey cottage and the food was beyond exceptional, probably the best steak I have had in a long time! The service was great and I really felt this was a home away from home. Couldn't recommend enough.

Quiet hotel in sleepy Chieveley

My car was booked in for a 2 day job at Chieveley Nissan specialist Horsham Developments so they recommended this place to stay as it was close. I checked out online reviews and booked. The accomodation is next to the pub, so you don't need to worry about excessive noise. The room had a comfortable bed, tv and modern shower which were all great. The room was pretty cold though and the wifi simply never worked, even when you could connect to it, it wasn't connected to the internet.

There is nothing at all to do in Chieveley, so went into the nearest town Newbury, which is also very quiet and although only a short distance the taxi was £15/18 each way. The late check in 2pm was a little inconvenient, but the staff at the accommodation spend a lot of time cleaning the room, so I understand why.

The pub closes between 2:30 and 6 so make sure you occupy yourself with something between this time. I had a burger from the pub when it reopened. It was ok, but not really to my taste, the breakfast the following morning was freshly made, but not to my taste either, the scrambled egg just tasted of butter. That aside, they did inc a full english in the price, but I wasn't fancying that.

When I went to check out at 10am I explained I would hang around the pub as I needed to waste some time and they offered me the room for an extended period at no extra cost, that was very good of them. All in all its a good B&B with a bit of room for improvement.

Great stay, full of character

We stayed just one night en route to the south and it was great. The room was actually a thatched cottage full of character and the food in the pub was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. It's close to the M4 which is both good and bad in different ways but we would definitely go back.
