The room was well cleaned, other than the old dirty looking carpet, mattresses was not is good condition. The mattress was covered but had black spots under the cover.
Clean towels and sheets were delivered upon request.
After staying 2 nights my boyfriend ended up in the hospital for a week with pneumonia. The same day I was diagnosed with an ear and sinus infections and rash on my back, stomach, and legs.
After packing up my last morning I discovered black bugs all over our cloths, bags, and blankets.
I had to take all of our items to a laundry mat and treat my car for bugs.
I missed several day of work due to being sick. The stress of the bugs and missing work triggered my autoimmune disease to flare resulting in loosing my job.
I contacted the hotel and requested a refund due to the bug infestation but never heard back from the owner.

The room was cleaned well, but smell of smoke, fresh sheets, and towels were dropped off when requested.

After staying two nights my boyfriend ended up in the hospital for a week with pneumonia, I got an ear and sinus infection the same day. All of our clothes, bags, and blankets were covered with small black bugs.

I had to take everything to the laundromat, and had to treat my car for bugs. I ended up missing several days of work due to a rash that started on my 3rd and final night. The stress from missing work, spending time and money at a laundromat, made my autoimmune disease flare resulting in me loosing my job.

The staff was friendly. I called about a refund but never heard back from the owner.

We loved our night at Captain Cove. It was so nostalgic of my family road trips as a kid. Yes, it's very 80's Roadside Motel inside the rooms, but they are clean and comfortable. The staff was so nice and my kids LOVED the pool. Quick walk to the beach and plenty of restaurants around. You can also grill in their adorable courtyard. Would definitely go back!

Old property that serves fishermen, construction workers and budget-minded tourists. My room had been refurbished in the recent past and was satisfactory, but bathroom was very dated and small. Wi-Fi was spotty at best, tv was a 36” with minimal channels and a sporadic
Remote controller.

The grounds are not the best but you don’t see them while sleeping. Didn’t utilize the pool.

Asked for a Non-smoking room but was told “All our rooms are smoking”. My room wasn’t too bad, but I didn’t think you could have a lodging facility that was ALL
SMOKING ROOMS!???? Is that even legal?

This has got to be right up there in the top 3 absolute worst places I’ve stayed in over 50 yrs of traveling. The only plus was the shower water pressure. Floors were filthy, it smelled like an old 1960’s no tell motel, barely an outlet to plug anything into. No vanity top in bathroom for wife to put the girl bathroom stuff on. Beds had plastic pee protectors over the mattresses that squeaked and felt like you’re wrapped in Saran Wrap all night and made you sweat and felt real creepy. The girl that checked me in didn’t seem real happy to be there working. I could go on but won’t…… just remember, you get what you pay for.

This was an adorable and charming little mom and pop place. Everything about it was inviting with old beach motel charm. The location was amazing in that it was close to beach and restaurants and even in town it was nestled under the oaks with a tropical landscape. This is a sweet spot for family and children to play as well. The staff serviced our room and refreshed it while we took a dip in the pool and we just couldn’t be more pleased with the personal attention. We will definitely return.

Family run property with a great little pool for families with kids and just to hang out at during the day. Two block walk to the beach easy to get to close to grocery stores restaurants and anything else you need. Staff is amazing always on site and really work hard to keep the place updated and clean.

Literally the worst hotel. Should be a 0 star. I impulsivly booked this hotel because of price and location. We got there and the \"lobby\" is a disguisting portion of a house. Staff was dressed in dirty pajamas and it looked like a hoarders paradise. When we got to the room it stunk, had cockroaches crawling on the wall and dead beatles. In the bathroom there were ants and the sheets were torn from what i could see. We turned around and left. Not even worth the cheap price.

The property is exactly as advertised. It is an older motel and rooms are small. However; the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and the pool is wonderful. Love the fact that they have a kiddie pool (big enough for 6-8 young children). They can splash to their content.

The motel is what I needed for one night for me and my dog. I dont need frills, just clean and safe. The only problem I had was them telling me the price with my dog is an extra $50. I explained that it is advertised online with pets staying free. She said she needed to call and fix that. But I wasnt charged the extra $50. I would not stay at this motel for an extra $50. Otherwise, it was what I needed

It’s really one of those “pay for what you get” type of places. When you’re vacationing on a budget I recommend this place. Keep in mind that you give up a few “higher quality” items when you pay for a cheaper place to stay. They only provide small bar soaps and not the travel size shampoos, conditioner, or body wash like a hotel would. The cleanliness of the room was good, but the beds seemed much smaller than a queen size. There seemed to be more long term residents and I’d say they were not necessarily the type I’d intentionally put my family and valuables around. EVERY room is a smoking room and reeks of cigarettes. They did not have a broom in the room which I thought was odd given it’s the beach and the sand you track into the room. It is within walking distance of a restaurant and ice cream place, it also has a side street that you could walk to the beach. All in all it was an okay place to stay for a short getaway and to bring along our dog, but it definitely isn’t somewhere I’d want to stay for longer than a weekend.

The staff was super friendly! Our room was clean overall.
The only issues we had were the drain in the tub wasn’t draining but I just unscrewed the plug completely to let it drain, we did find one small roach and spider in the restroom but they were killed and disposed of. The motel in general has a lot of trees and shubbrery so bugs are to be expected occasionally.
Overall we had a great experience on a budget! The motel is only a block from the ocean and close enough to multiple businesses to walk. Will definitely visit again.

Rude check in person. Room was horrible. Not cleaned. Had to get someone to vacuum. We assume the person next door to our room lives there because they have a cat and we kept hearing knocking on their door all night long. The beds did not even have a box spring. It was just one mattress on top of another. The pillows were stained. The pool was clean. Booked for two nights. Couldn’t stay the second night. Booked the Holiday Inn. Much better.

One word: ROACHES. Sometimes life requires that you take a budget friendly option, but I would not even pay half the cost to stay here! The lady at check-in was entirely unprofessional as we tried to fix a hiccup in the reservation. Finally done there, we get to our room and its AWFUL. Carpet hasn't been shampooed in 20 years or more, walls and baseboards were filthy, and comforters were years old and were literally patched and faded to where you barely could see the original design. When we came back from dinner, there was a roach crawling on the wall, one in the tub, and two others decided my toiletry bag was interesting to play in, GROSS!!!! I can handle older and worn, but filthy and bug-infested I will not. We will never, NEVER, stay at this place again! My skin is still crawling....

Can you spell SCUMHOLE???

This property should not be listed on Hotels.com. This was the worst scumhole we have ever had the displeasure of staying in. We would not have stayed past the first five minutes if we had another choice, but it was the beach and Memorial Day Weekend. Although illegal in NC, all the rooms were smoking rooms, as well as the common areas, even where they did laundry. Even the clothes we didn't wear, our suitcases, shoes and everything smelled like cigarettes when we got home. There was a small TV with a non-working remote. There were no hair dryers, no shampoo, and threadbare, dirty towels and bed linen. The \"pool\" was a joke and had cracked, pitted walking areas that were dangerous, especially being wet. The \"shower\" at the pool was a spigot with an indentation in the sidewalk to catch the water which overran into the parking lot. There were people smoking and drinking alcohol with children at the pool and in the \"playground\". The people at the check-in desk were smoking and blowing it in our faces. There was not enough parking so that when we came back from dinner we had to park next door in a filthy lot. There were people grilling with giant fires in the common areas that were also dangerous. I must reiterate THIS PROPERTY SHOULD NOT BE LISTED ON HOTELS.COM. If it would get me anywhere, I would demand a refund, however, I know that would get me nowhere. Our Memorial Day weekend (and we're both veterans) was ruined because of this dump!!!

We were so pleasantly surprised with this place! The room was spacious and even had a table to sit at. Everyone we talked to was so friendly and the atmosphere was easy going and laid back. The walk to the beach was easy and quick, plus the beach access was one of the less busy ones which was nice. We didn’t use the pool but it was a plus to have that. We will definitely be coming back!

This was a great mini vacation. My only complaint was the mattresses need to be replaced. It was fine if just one person was in bed but 2 people it squeaked and dipped badly. The service was impeccable and the staff was awesome. We will definitely stay here again. Very clean and safe!

Never even got a chance to stay. Paid in April, told when we arrived in July that they never received our reservation and did not have a room for us. They did get my money though. It was a nice little motel. We would stay again but definitely wasn't expecting a smoking room. Cigarette burns all over over bed covers. Redheaded girl at check in was about as friendly as an alligator. Housekeeping was best part. For the price it was fine but noway would I pay more than $100 a night. We did love all the outdoor seating and the landscaping the pool was super clean.

Good and bad.

The staff was amazing. They were friendly and informative. They provided plenty of towels and ice when we needed it.The downside was the room was dusty on the walls. I'm allergic so it was a concern. Another downside was the bed we slept in was broken and uncomfortable. The box spring was hanging down onto the floor and it was so lumpy. Neither one of us got a good night's sleep. We like the area and previous visit was good. Worth checking out.
