Friendly, courteous and quick check-in. Parking outside unit door. Room was adequate size for a couple travelling and not wanting to spend much time in it apart from sleeping. It had usual practical accessories including electric kettle and bar refrigerator, plus handy extras of small table & 2 dining chairs, a toaster and little microwave oven ... but guests will need to have own crockery and cutlery if wanting to prepare basic meals, such as breakfasts. Shower really needs a safety grab rail ... getting in and out of that involves stepping over a tiled surround (15-20cm high approx). Shops, cafes, Theatre Royal, etc, within 500m-1km walking distance. Suited our needs and would probably stay again if visiting Cstlemaine sometime in future.

Decent & clean motel close to the Woolies. Only downside was that there was no one at reception when we arrived around 4:30. We called the after hours phone number several times but no one picked up - we left voicemails, so we waited around in the cold for someone to turn up so we could checkin!

Overpriced, very noisy traffic, check-in took forever, TV’s didn’t work properly in 2 of our 3 rooms, bathroom door lock broken, bathroom exhaust fan needs attention as does level of cleaning (please vacuum under couch and beds)2 of us were put in wrong rooms and had to be moved and upon checking in was almost charged $100 more than quoted price.

Room 16 was clean, the bed comfortable and the shower pressure good HOWEVER, it needs attention. The window coverings are unattractive, outdated and let light in. Also, the furniture was old and dark. The tiles around the shower were chipped and cracked and the hand basin had deep scratches. The toiletries were very scant and basic- 2 little tubes of shampoo and 2 one inch square pieces of soap for 2 people for 2 nights. There were no face washers or hand towels. Also, the road noise was very loud, probably due to thin window glass

The location is excellent, near to a supermarket and the town centre. The door lock was unreliable and difficult to use and I would have preferred a second lock on the door. The taps in the shower were odd, with each one turning a different way.

On arrival thought that this motel was alright and represented reasonable value. The room though in a dated complex was updated and comfortable. Then the neighbouring guest in room 6 checked in and switched on their air conditioner. The whole time it was on throughout the night it made a loud rattling noise right outside the front window of our room7. Not easy to sleep through. Then in the morning the neighbour had a long shower judging by the pipe water noise and whilst that was running we had no hot water at all. My wife got stuck with a cold shower as we had to check out by 10am. I don’t know what the other rooms are like but don’t stay in room 7. Was going to speak to reception about this but they were closed on check out. For what we paid I expected better.

Our only issue was with the heating. After discovering we had on wrong setting for warmth it was great until around 11 pm when we got back to the room (we never altered the settings on the remote} there was no heat again and we froze for the night. Bit warmer when we woke up. Possibly on a timer?

Comfortable bed. Pleasant room.
Ridiculous bar stools too high to sit on at the bench which meant no work space except your lap while sitting on the bed or couch.
Needs a small dining table and 2 dining chairs instead of extra long bench OR simply bar stools of the height that make the bench usable as a table.

The property was close to the centre of Castlemaine. It was clean. Not as good as I expected from the photos. We checked out around 7.30 on Saturday morning, reception was unattended so dropped the key in the locked box. We realised while ordering breakfast in town that my husband had forgotten his reading glasses in the room. We finished eating and got back to the motel probably around 8.45, reception was still unattended so we rang the number from their website, it went to voicemail, left a message explaining our situation. No response. We rang again at about 9.10. This time the lady came out and got the key for my husband. My husband was careless to leave his glasses, but the customer service was very poor. I couldn't believe that reception was unattended after 9am on a Saturday morning. Lucky that it wasn't a real emergency.

Blocked drains for 2 of our 3 nights in the Family room. Only after the second attempt after 2 days was it fixed. We could only have 1 minute showers as we would be standing in a puddle of our shower water after a minute. It would then take 20 minutes to drain completely. There was also no housekeeping, no tissues and no forks (but there were knives and spoons)

The motel has been tastefully refurbished and the furniture was stylish. However, there were no plates or bowls in the room. Cutlery was limited to 2 teaspoons and 1 knife. Toaster didn’t work, but that wasn’t too bad, because the bread l bought at the IGA was 3 days past the “best before” date.

The Castle was a very handy find for a visit to Castlemaine. The room was very clean with a good bathroom and very good mattress. The people were friendly and helpful, and the motel is a short walk to the center of town. We were very happy with the room and think the Castle is very good value.

The exterior of all units is painted a drab grey. Makes the place look dismal. Room size was good. Power points were somewhat inadequate. No hand towels for use in bathroom (only bath towels). Bed was firm but comfortable. Table chairs were a bit wobbly. No towel rail in bathroom. Overall, room I stayed in needs a good makeover.
