The staff were some of the best we have ever met and met our needs perfectly. They ensured we had a room that was suitable and went the extra mile to achieve this so a big thank you.
The property is in the process of being updated but this didn't affect our stay except perhaps to see how well it appears to be going and I'm sure when this is finished they will have a hotel to be proud of.
They have only owned this hotel for about 6 months and it is obvious they are making huge efforts to update it.

I understand that they only took over the property 5 weeks ago. So to be fair you cannot expect everything to be right as they said that they gave a lot of work to do. As we were the only people there and we only paid £100 for the room. We were told that they have updated a couple of the rooms. But we would not be offered one of those rooms. I understand that to a point but surely for the sake of future recommendations putting us in one of those rooms would have been a better business idea for them. The room we had was large but the carpet was stained the wall had damp the bathroom had a shower curtain so long it would trip you. The lady serving the breakfast was lovely. Unfortunately the egg was raw over the top but the rest of the food was good. I do wish them luck with their renovation as it's a lovely old building I expect their under pressure but please make your customers feel welcome and do everything to make it a nice experience as they are the mouth and ears of your success. X

The new owners are certainly making their mark on this property with lots of work going on (did not affect the stay at all). We were in a newly refurbished room which was spacious and beautifully decorated. Will certainly be going back, excellent location, great food and hosts.

On arrival the hotel looked in poor condition.
The room decorations are very dated.
The room smelt damp and I noticed the central heating was in, which is presume is to try and dry it out.
The bathroom was also very dated with mould on the sealer and an old bath mat.
Breakfast was disappointing, as I was not asked what I wanted so it was served with black pudding and a hash brown which I did not want.
The only cereal was cornflakes with no choice of milk.
The fried egg was over cooked.
Then I asked did I want toast, to which I replied I would prefer it after the breakfast with a cup of tea. I waited, and waited and eventually left.
I would not recommend it or stay again.

This will be my third visit here over the past three years as I visit one of my customers nearby. It is impeccably run in every way. Breakfast cooked to order. Evening meals outstanding. Especially the steak pie. The best pie I have ever had and I travel a lot.

When we arrived we were welcomed. The two girls were very friendly and helpful when we arrived. Shame about the lady on the morning I checked out. She pointed out loudly that Expedia had made an error with our booking and that i owed more money. I said if it's an error on Expedias part maybe it should be taken up with them. The ladies didn't pass comment or highlight this on arrival,in fact both were friendly and very helpful. It was very unprofessional the morning we left and didn't appreciate the way it was delivered in front of others around. I won't be returning for this reason, I left feeling very upset .

We liked everything about this hotel: the staff were friendly and welcoming; the breakfast was good; the room was spacious, clean & comfortable, and everything in it worked (toilet, shower, TV, etc.). We also liked the
old-style features in the room (wooden beams on the ceiling, stone wall, etc.) as they gave it character.

Nice comfortable room with good WiFi connection. Food was excellent and served quickly. The steak pie was the best I have ever had anywhere. Top marks yo the kitchen.
This is my second visit here and my previous visit was just as good. Plenty of parking and very friendly staff. Hot breakfast cooked to order. The best I've ever had.

Quite a big place. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Evening meal was classic pub grub but really good quality and good portions. Wifi was good. Shower was good and everywhere was lovely and clean. I'd be happy to stay here anytime.

Just over 30 mins from keswick in a quiet location,excellent hosts ,amazing food .i love thats its not a new updated place gives it more character. I didnt have a good night sleep but that was due to upstairs neighbours .that was only down side and was a shame it was only a one night stay.

Really nice helpful staff, very friendly and good rural location. Good range of whisky and competitive prices on the drinks! Room was a single room, a bit dated and a little noisy when people were walking about in adjacent rooms but was a definitely a comfortable sleep! Shower had good water pressure and was very clean and tidy.

Hotel staff were very pleasant and the bar had a good atmosphere. Breakfast was good in terms of quantity and quality. Room was spacious but marred by being musty and this detracted from the overall experience. In terms of value for money I would want better quality rooms for the price paid. Okay for a one night stay but I wouldn’t want to stay any longer.

Hotel was an interim stay on our way home from holiday. Hotel is A little tired and in need of some modernisation, very creaky floorboards and could hear different residents using their tele into the middle of the night. Hand rails very lose in bathroom and shower sprayed out of holes. Staff we’re on the whole very pleasant, especially the lady who served our breakfast, one girl didn’t know what beer was on offer but she was very young and didn’t know the difference between cider and beer. Our meal was taken to a different table after taking 50 minutes after ordering.

Nice location, but we found litter from previous occupants in our room and at least 5 spiders. Having an arachnophobia sufferer in the family meant that they stay was not pleasant. Seriously. The place was last refurbished in the 80’s by the looks of it. If you like Axminster and Wilton carpets with dingy lighting then it’s great.

lovely clean hotel 4 out of 5

the staff are very friendly and followed covid guidelines making are stay feel safe and enjoyable. The room itself was very clean and a good size for a couple. my only criticism of the hotel was it could do with a little bit of modernising especially in the bathroom. this is not a point to say I wouldn't return however thanks to the staff and food offered being brilliant.

What a lovely place, the owner and staff went above and beyond when we couldnt get a taxi. Stuff your chain hotels you will never get service like we had at wheyriggs.
Bedroom was cisy with a comfy bed and the breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. Looking firward to staying again.

Clean and good, with room for improvement

We found the hotel clean and tidy. The staff were OK – not overly helpful, nor unhelpful. They seemed to be lost in their own world, generally sombre. It is a relatively small hotel, in the middle of fields, but you cannot walk into those fields. There isn't anywhere to go for a walk, except if you drive away from the hotel. There is a small garden, adjacent to the hotel, but it was unkempt with overgrown shrubs and grass. The shrubs on either side of the path in the centre of the garden had engulfed the path, even in August. We were in a family room with a double bed and a single bed. We found the bed comfortable. The shower and toilet door had no latch or locking mechanism, which annoyed us. The partition walls between rooms are terrible (almost like cardboard – depending on the sounds). Depending on who you are staying with, you can find yourself in a very embarrassing situation during the night. For us, this was one of the worst aspects of the hotel. The hotel restaurant (not included in your room hire) has very little to offer for strict vegans and vegetarians. We ate there on our first night and then resorted to eating out in the nearest towns and tourist attractions (Wigton being the closest). The breakfast (included in your room hire) was good – for vegans/vegetarians and meat-eaters. The menu had enough to keep us happy (albeit, the same every morning). The availability of 'free' tea, coffee and biscuits in the room was appreciated and benefited from. 7/10 overall.

Stay for less near The Lakes

Lovely welcome at Wheyrigg Hall. Utterly rural but perfect for access to my work location (Aspatria). Really friendly team, comfortable room, fab breakfast and dinner. Great value for money too.
