I stay in a lot of hotels and I must say that this hotel is tired and in need of a makeover. The mattress on the bed was on its last legs you could feel every spring in it and when you sat on it you could feel the frame underneath.
The paintwork behind the door handles needed cleaning as did the stair carpets.
The food was good though and they had a five start food rating.
I was the only person staying there on the one night and I don’t know if that is indicative.
Would I stay there again? No I would not there are plenty of other hotels in the town to choose from

Avoid!
I stayed in a single room on the second floor of this pub. The room was very tired/shabby and in desperate need of a deep clean. Old carpet fraying around the edges, dirty splashes up the wall, etc. Sloping, creaking floor.

The mattress was old and uncomfortable - springs dig into you all night. I’m always wary of non-white towels and bed linen as cleanliness is never as good - it’s dark grey towels here and grey bed linen. Thin pillows and duvet. And the TV didn’t work.

I now see there are lots of reviews saying that same. The response from the hotel is always to say something when you’re there but I can’t see how that would make any difference as the whole place is like this.

There was a gap under the room door so I could, sadly. hear other guests easily. The door did a lock but it’s definitely not fire-safe.

If this was a Travelodge if would be shut down as no one would put up with how run down it is. And this place cost me more than a Travelodge.

Positives: There’s a small hotel/pub car park at the back and a Spar (grocery shop) opposite. The pub does serve food (but I got a pizza from a nearby cafe).

I do not recommend this place. I received two WhatsApp messages from scammers who got my data from the hotel’s insecure system. I reported it to the hotel via email and they didn’t respond. I also reported it to Expedia and they were concerned and raised a report. The scammers knew my full name, and the dates I was staying at Gwesty’r Plas Coch Hotel, Bala.

Staff were great, rooms are just too tired. Holes in towels, holes in duvet cover etc. everything just seems it was probably at the end of it’s usable life 10 years ago.

Super great staff, who made you feel very welcome. Food was also great and filling. Car park at the rear was easy to access. A good place to stay for a couple of nights. We really enjoyed our time at Plas Coch.

Budget stay. Room was okay but there was a horrible cheesy feet smell. Other than this it was clean and had tea/coffee facilities. Was given key and told were the room was but other than that no communication with hotel staff. Bar service was very friendly in the hotel. It was a cheap break so wasn't expecting much

Creaky clean !!!

The hotel was very dated and creaky, but clean.
The bed could have been more comfortable and the room we had overlooked the street and the pub opposite was very lively.

Plas Coch is very good value for money. It's much cheaper than other local options, so you shouldn't expect luxury, but the standard was more than acceptable.

It’s a pub. Cheap. Friendly. Toilet didn’t flush properly, shower didn’t feel super clean and it was quite small. Bed was comfy. But it’s a characterful old pub and it’s cheap! Not many food options in Bala.

It was somewhere to stay for one night. The beds were clean and comfortable. Generally the room was clean but the paint was chipped in many places and the furniture hasn't aged well. The shower had mould around the base and the bathmat was threadbare, torn and holy. The bar was okay. The staff were good. Interesting that the single beds were completely different heights/sizes.

Start off with the good points,the breakfast was very good and there’s a small car park round the back.
Bad points are the room was very dated,not shabby chic just shabby,the 2 single beds were very uncomfortable,it wasn’t the cleanest,the only window in the room opened out on to the sloping roof which made the room really dark in daylight and very humid.

This is a nice comfy hotel. We stayed bed and breakfast, which was cooked really nice . The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. It maybe a little old fashioned but it was a really nice and comfortable along with being good value for money, and we will definitely be back.

Want to sleep at night? Best avoid.

Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable bed, decent breakfast.

Cons: Noisy during the evening and through to the early morning, due to the hotel also being a pub with lots of loud talking and laughing from the locals who drink there. I think the police attended at one point due to a fight. Avoid the place if you want a decent nights sleep.

The hotel is definitely in need of a refurbishment but it is in an ideal location on the High Street and only a few minutes walk to Bala Lake. All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially Tony, the chef, who cooked us a lovely breakfast too. All in all, we had a lovely short break here.

Pretty straight forward needed a night to stay since I was working on the weekend and the room was reasonably priced, staff is friendly, room was cleaned enough and it was comfortable enough that’s all I need so it’s worth going if you don’t fancy forking over a fortune to over places, got a pub downstairs and breakfast in the morning but couldn’t attend to those things as I drive and wake up earlier hours but overall judging the place it seemed pretty decent and I can’t complain.

They do have a parking lot in the back but it fits maybe 5 cars from what I could tell. Luckily street parking right out front was free overnight so it wasn’t a problem. The place is a bit dingy and the mattress was awful. There was an actual hole in the ceiling of my room from possibly an old leak? The en-suite bathroom was fine. Staff were friendly enough and breakfast was decent. Very convenient location to many restaurants and shops. It was what it was if you need a quick stop off on a budget.

The bedroom would benefit from a new bed and the replacement of all bedding. The shower and towels were good. Breakfast was excellent and evening meals were substantial although all items on the menu were not always available. The staff were friendly and helpful. I found it difficult to use the car park due to a marquee being erected and in position all week. Other parked vehicles resulted in limited space to manoeuvre. On street parking was however available

A comfortable stay and we were in luck having a room facing the back away from the traffic. There is a pelican crossing nearby which is set to a ridiculously high volume and this would have been a source of unnecessary noise had we been in a room facing the front. Please have a word with the local authority as it should be turned down. It only needs to be heard by people using it!
