A place with so much promise

This place relies on the view! Which is truly incredible, from the room; restaurant; spa. But it is such a shame that the wonder ends there. I can only speak of the lake side view room we had, it was very small, struggled to find place for the both of us, a suitcase and a bag. The bathroom was underwhelming. Service at the restaurant was poor, drinks forgotten, food orders taken wrong, at times the waiters/waitresses just lack finesse. We waited over 40mins for breakfast on our first morning, again the saving grace is the view keeps your attention. Was underwhelmed by the food itself. Spa treatment rooms looked nice from what i could see but the thermal suite was abit run down, other guests just walking in with shoes on, there where guests walking outside the spa windows, not a place you could truly relax in, and not worth the price.
Its a crying shame, such an incredible setting, beautiful building with an awe inspiring view, let down by almost everything else. It was \"okay\" for 2 nights but just wished it was amazing :(

Outstanding place to stay for scenery and walks. The food was amazing and staff were really polite and helpful. It was a shame, there was no pool there is a great opportunity for an infinity pool. For some reason the hotel was plagued with fly's this was off putting especially at meal times.

What can i say absolutely stunning picturesque location, freindly staff high standard of cleanliness, food was beautiful. This beautiful tudor style building was perfect stay. Some may say dated i say in keeping with the style of the building beds was extremely comfortable and spacious in a well lay out and perfectly equipped room. A hidden gem cant wait to return. I have stayed in many ultra modern spa hotel 4 * plus and the service and food havent been good. This hotel out done them all well done to all the staff in the reception, Spa, restaurant and the tavern. You made us very welcome

Extremely nice hotel, with helpful friendly staff in a beautiful location. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars are the rooms and hallways are a little tired and could do with sprucing up. The food in the main restaurant was wonderful, and covered all the various tastes for our group asked for. Can also recommend the spa. Hope you enjoy your day.

Just returned from a two night break at the hotel, our second visit there. Very safe to stay during the current pandemic especially the outdoor bar and picnic area. Disappointed that spa area and adjacent bar was closed but obviously can’t be helped due to the current situation. Food and service excellent and the views from every room stunning. Will definitely return sometime.

highly recommended!

Stayed overnight during a stop over in the area. I was impressed with the overall management of the COVID-19 and social distancing measures that were in place throughout the hotel. This offered Peace of mind and reassurance. We were alas people given a welcome pack which contained guidance, face masks and sanitiser gel.
The location was excellent, the (twin) room was well proportioned, and the food at dinner and breakfast was excellent.
I would certainly stay at the hotel next time we are in the area.

The room was lovely with fantastic views, the bed was sooo comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant, the service was very good, but the food not so, I had the sea bass and found the skin wasn’t crispy and the risotto was like rice pudding, fairly disgusting. But otherwise a lovely hotel.

Beautiful Hotel

Amazing location if you are interested in nature, hiking, and kayaking. We spent 2 nights there with 2 kids and a dog, it was really breathtaking experience. If you can, book rooms with a view of the lake - really worth it! The breakfast was amazing, the dinner were very good too! The hotel has a lot of history behind, so it has his own charm ;-)

Enjoyable stay at the hotel, just an issue with one of the room descriptions being wrong, valley view room was actually overlooking the car park. This should be resolved by the hotel/hotels.com asap so that other visitors do not have the same problem.

Food bill wasn’t transferred onto room and I was asked if I could wait 30min when checking out for someone to arrive to operate the computer system!

Checked out just before 7am and couldn’t have any breakfast (paid for) because breakfast doesn’t start until 8am.

Sound proofing in rooms poor. Could hear downstairs guests talking until 1am followed by snoring.

We stayed in one of the Lake View Room which had nice nice bathroom with a large basic bedroom area. Would have preferred to have been able to control the room temperature as is was quite cold

Location is stunning, rooms clean but tired. Bathroom cleanliness was not great, also tired and in need of attention. Toilet cleanliness was terrible, out of sight area behind toilet lid was filthy, cleaners obviously never put lid down?
Breakfast was only mediocre, poor quality sausages, baked beans you literally get 1 tablespoon in a little pot! Considering the premium price, I think this hotel is resting on its laurels and location.
Always wanted to stay here but the experience didn’t live up to expectations.

I loved the peace and serenity we experienced during our stay. The best thing about the hotel I have to be honest is the view, breathtaking, but the beauty and authenticity of the hotel is no less.

What I didn't like was the fact that we had to drive suite far to get to restaurants or other local amenities

We thought the service was excellent, the staff couldn't do enough for you and the dogs were very welcome in the places they were allowed in Hotel. The food was excellent, the only issue we had was we tried to book a spa treatment, but they were fully booked, it was our fault as we did leave it kind of last minute, but thought it being mid week it wouldn't be quite so busy, so lesson learnt !

Beautiful location for a getaway.

The hotel is in an amazingly beautiful location perched high above the stunning Lake Vyrnwy and close to the dam. The hotel is warm and welcoming and an ideal spot to take in all the local area has to offer. To be honest we thought the room decor was looking a little dated but it was comfortable enough and it was worth paying the little extra for a lake view room. The hotel does probably need a bit of money spending on it to bring it up modern standards (it has incredible potential we felt) but all in all it was a very pleasant stay and we would happily return.

Leave your dog at home!

I don’t want to be overly negative because the setting is magnificent and if we hadn’t travelled with a dog, our experience would have been better. This hotel states it’s dog friendly but it isn’t! There are kennels outside for your dog if that’s what they prefer (gun dogs!!) but our miniature schnauzer has to be with us. She was allowed in our room, and in restaurant. But... she was not allowed into breakfast, or the bar, or lounges of which there were two with log fires and big comfy chairs!! No, we had a few chairs under the stairs with no view and beside the front door!! Breakfast could only be served in bedroom (nowhere to eat except perched on lap on edge of bed). We twisted their arm and ate it in restaurant around the cleaner and smell of bleach! Our bedroom was above the kitchens which had huge extractor fan which spewed disgusting cooking smells into our room. All my clothes stank of cooking fat! I didn’t think reception staff were helpful to us and would say this hotel is dog tolerant not dog friendly and ask for a room with a view away from kitchens but it will cost more.

We were both rely enjoy the last grouse pub great staff welcoming and frisndly. Brassier restaurant was good food wasnt up to its best as very busy, shame really as we were looking forward to the meal bit small not very hot unfortunately!! Bit was made up with restaurant next nite was wounderful but no fillet steak !!! But menu very inviting. Really enjoyed stay will.be returning very soon .

We had a great short break at Lake Vrynwy, it was our second visit after a few years and we certainly will go again.

The staff are friendly with good food and fantastic views.

We hired bicycles from Artisan at the visitor centre which were excellent value and we also made use of the lovely spa facilities at the hotel, perfect to kick start the new year.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Room was lovely but extremely cold. Food in the Tower Restaurant was OK but wouldn't be memorable. I had lipstick on my soup bowl and a hair in my food....definitely not perfect!

The evening meal in the main hotel was poor, serving uncooked veg may be ok for some! The choice was limited if you didn't want the fancy bits added. Soggy skin on the fish was appalling!! The bar staff except one had no idea.
It's a shame because it's such an idilic location, but 3 star at best. We made our feelings known but other than a 'sorry bout that' nothing happened

A good hotel but pricey for what you get

The hotel is in a wonderful location with incredible views over the lake. The rooms are comfortable but a bit dated. I had to move rooms after the first night due to a mysterious buzzing sound coming from the roofspace but that was handled very well by the staff. My overall impression is that this is a good hotel but I think it's expensive for what you get. Still, I guess you pay for views like that!

Room with a fantastic view.

Four Poster double bed with a Lake View, what better way to enjoy a stay in Wales. Good Food and Wine menu to select from, Knowledgeable waiters to assist with choice. Exceptional taste and presentation. Good location for walking, cycling, water activities and much more, or just chill on the balcony. Staff very helpful and informative.

Hotel was great, only issue was the food, had a steak steak in the evening and it was a bit tough. Breakfast was awful took 30 minutes to arrive and had been under a hot lamp, could not even cut through the fried egg.

Can’t tell you how much we enjoyed this break, the hotel was lovely friendly stafff and stunning views over the lake. We were blessed with superb weather which helped massively.
The food was absolutely delicious!!
The location is quite remote but we felt that added to the whole experience, the wonderful scenery and the peace and quiet was very welcome ahead of our trek up Snowdon.

The hotel is in a spectacular setting and the views from the terraces are amazing. The lounges too are beautifully old fashioned with loads of character. The on site pub \"The Grouse\" was full of younger people playing pool and standing in the open doorway so to me was not in keeping with the lovely hotel atmosphere and unfortunately my room overlooked this causing privacy issues as the 2 large windows had no nets/blinds. Also cars parked directly facing my room so people coming and going could see inside. I would 100% stay here again I loved the hotel and the staff were very friendly but although the room itself was lovely and the bathroom fabulous I personally would not stay in room 9 again.
