It is very close to Puerta del Sol, so for us it was a perfect location. The reception is staffed 24x7 and every staff member was welcoming and very polite. The room and ensuite bathroom was clean, no issues. Overall, we had a very comfortable 3 night stay and feel it was good value for money. I would be happy to stay there again.

The only bad thing about the location is because it is a closed street for cars prepared to walk to the location when u arrive or leave to take ur taxi ( maybe a block no more than that . Otherwise the place is awesome for ur stay in the city of Madrid

The Staff attention was good. The room was clean and they clean it and change the towels daily. It was noisy, you can hear voices, doors open/close and stepping. Smoke odor in the hall and sometimes come in the room.

Room was small but clean - bath was excellent. There is no access to this hotel so you must walk about 5 minutes with your bag to get there - should have been a notice on their site. They put us on the 3rd floor, reception is on second floor, but the lock the door off of the 3rd floor elevator so we had to carry our bags down the stairs when checking out and staff wasn’t very friendly- not sure why?? Location is great, would stay again assuming we could guarantee a 2nd floor room!

The location is perfect for visiting the historic center of Madrid. Even though it is along a busy pedestrian street, I heard no noise from the street in my room. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable and the daytime receptionist was friendly and offered good advice on local restaurants.

The hostal was fantastic. All cmean mattress perfect for indtant sleeping. The minir thing is the room is cozy and air get stuffy. We just openen the windowand in 5 minutes all clrear to go. I recommend the place as it's been recently refurbished beautifully.

Excellent location. Terrible service. Dangerous stairs. The staff were unhelpful and rude. The stairs are hard to navigate. The stairs do have handrails but there is a wall touching the handrails - it is not possible to grab the handrails as a result. The location is very good and you can walk to most locations in Madrid.

Great location and helpful, friendly staff. Right in historic heart of Madrid within 20 minute walk in any direction to key sights. Veryclean room. Only down side was our room was little narrow and laid out in awkward L-shape. Also, no microwave or coffee maker or small fridge was provided in room. Those items would have made the stay perfect. Great Location , Helpful Staff. But other than those, It wasn't a good experience. Rooms are from 1980s. Everything is old. No technology involved with this place. The bed was very uncomfortable. Wifi was weak. I stayed in a single room. So It was extra extra tiny room. Other rooms might be little larger but I don't really suggest anyone to stay in that single room if you don't have to.

At no stage did I receive any confirmation of my booking for this property, so I had to book another property for our stay. It ended up being quite expensive as the new booking was at such short notice, plus the fact that I had already paid for Hostal El Pilar.
I am home now and not at all happy with the fact that the communication was non existent

Hola, este hotel no es ni remotamente lo que usted espera, ni lo que se ve en las fotos que hay en Expedía, para empezar el baño de la Hab estaba muy pequeño y el toilet suelto, no se podía hacer necesidades en el, es casi imposible bañarse en ese lugar ya que la bañera es extremadamente pequeña con una cortina de muy mala calidad, el aire en muy mal estado, el control del TV prácticamente inoperable, el control del aire roto y funcionaba cuando quería, las sábanas y la cubre cama sucia el día que llegamos tuve que pedirle a la señora que la cambiara, y para rematar existe moho producto de la humedad en algunas áreas de la Hab. Pero lo peor de todo es el ruido que hay toda la noche proveniente de otras habitaciones y la calle , es imposible dormir , estuvimos casi 9 días sin poder dormir. Yo no soy una persona exigente, pero este lugar no lo recomiendo di para nada.

We enjoyed our stay. Alfredo was a great front desk host and gave us great directions to find our way around. We arrived early. Our room was not quite ready so they stored our luggage while we went and ate lunch. Then we were able to get in to our room early.

Our room was clean and comfortable. It was also very quiet.

This room was a perfect location. We could walk to Retiro Park and the Palacio Real and everywhere in between. There were many food options very nearby.

The Sol metro station is just a 2 min walk- if that.

FYI- if using an uber or taxi- be aware that a lot of times the street is blocked to traffic except police and deliveries. You will need to meet/leave the taxi/uber at the corner- it is not far at all though.

This property is located right in the heart of Puerta del Sol. From there you can reach all of the most popular tourist destinations and restaurants, bars, etc, by walking. The metro is also right there. Overall, great spot to launch your explorations. The property itself is fine. My issue was on the first night when we arrived. The A/C was not working in the room. We were told that there was no other room and no option for a repair (at 4PM). No solutions such as a large fan or portable A/C units. We were offered a small office fan that did very little to offset the 90F degrees in the room. We (me, my wife and 2 daughters) ended up sweating all night and not sleeping at all. I realize that things can go wrong or break down but not having a solution is not acceptable. The next day we were moved to a better room down on the main level where the A/C worked and everything was fine. Overall, if you get lucky and all works when you arrive, the stay at this location is good. We were not reimbursed for the cost of the first night. The attitude was \"what do you want me to do?\" It's a shame as it could have been a better stay. After the first extremely hot night, everything was fine.

The room was nothing like described and pictured. It had not been renovated as described. The building was not secured even though it was late, and the room lock and key did not feel secure. Also it did not feel safe, as the window was to the interior center and there was no access to the fire escape. Though there were no smoking signs everywhere, I could smell people smoking. Finally, I ended up finding an alternative place and not staying there because I didn't feel comfortable or entirely safe. Though I did not expect a refund for the first night, I requested a refund for the second night which I had already paid for and the request was denied.

El hostal está localizado en el segundo piso y me tomó unos minutos poder localizar el timbre para acceder a la recepción. El hostal se encuentra en buenas condiciones y la habitación fue acogedora. Localización estratégica muy cerca del Metro. Tenga en cuenta que la caja de seguridad es manejada por un tercero y cada vez que la utilices debes pagar un euro (una caja bastante arcaica), la misma no estaba asegurada contra un objeto fijo; si alguien accede a la habitación puede sencillamente llevarse la caja. No se si es algo común en hostales, pero éste utiliza llaves tradicionales para acceder a la habitación y me pidieron que la dejara en la recepción siempre antes de salir (algo que prefería no hacer). No obstante, me gustó la localización, el trato y las condiciones de este hostal y volvería a hospedarme en una futura ocasión.

My only complain is that you can hear absolutely everything so if you're a light sleeper this may not be your place. I had trouble sleeping one night because some women were being loud - staff told me that a little noise was acceptable till 12am (it was a little past 11:30pm and I had to wake up early for a tour). 💀

Excellent staff was very friendly and helpful. Great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Very clean and plenty of electrical outlets. Extra blankets were very helpful. It is right next to square where big easter parade ended, but we were shielded from outdoor noises. Location is incredible! We loved that.

There were two drawbacks. The first was that we heard people walking on stairs quite frequently in middle of night. The second was the awkward bathroom. Toilet sits in tight area and you have to sit sideways. The sink has a shelf mounted right above it that prevents you from being able to easily wash your face or spit out toothpaste. And the shower is in a tight space with the hot/cold handle placed where it is very easy to bump and turn off, make it all cold, or make it all hot.

All in all, the apartment is fine, but unless the bathroom was remodeled, we would opt to try a different hotel.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Check in was easy and we could store our luggage. We did have to buzz into the main building every time which was odd, but there was always someone to let us in. The room was small, but for a Hostal it was enough (considering we had our own bathroom in the room). It could be cleaner—the ceiling was peeling above our shower, the shower head was on the floor of the tub when we arrived, and the comforter and blankets did not seem to be as clean as the sheets. Overall, I would probably book again.

The rooms (at least for 3 people) are extremely small, with almost no room for 3 people's luggage, the bathrooms are extremely small and nothing like the photos posted on Expedia. If you have a rental car, I recommend careful coordination for parking. We didn't get one, nor did we get the hotel to help us with the issue of our car's license plate when driving through the center of Madrid, which has limitations and many hotels put it in the city system to exempt payment of the pollution tax. This hostel doesn't help with this issue either.

The property is a few steps away from Puerta del Sol, close to many of Madrid’s main attractions within walking distance, same as Sol’s Metro station. We stayed in two different rooms, they were quite small but clean and confortable. Since it’s in front of a busy street with bars and restaurants, it was a bit noisy to the point we woke up in the middle of the night once.

The hostal is located in old building with horrible odor inside. No ventilation , air conditioner does not work. We got the smallest room possible instead of double room for which we paid $195 for the first night. Concierge promised to give us another room next day, we stayed in that room for 4 days but never been moved to a room we paid for. The bed, pillow and bedding is in poor condition, one small chair. There is no breakfast, no iron, no hair dryer, no minim fridge, not even a lobby to sit in to do some work or have a coffee and meet up) plain just a bed and a bathroom that’s it. The electric outlet gives yellow sparkles when plugged or when the light needs to turn on/off. Overall unpleasant experience. The staff is not that friendly or compassionate.
We wouldn’t stay there again. And I won’t recommend to stay there.
it’s convenient as a location but not if you have a car. There are many different hostels around- give a try but do not fall for Hostal El Pilar

Hotel staff were fantastic room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately when I arrived I was told I only had a double bed which was no good. I expressly requested 2 single beds this was no good so my friend had to find other accommodation and it cost me more money. I'm not happy it wasn't hotel's fault they said they can't guarantee this but you can request. I will seriously be grateful if you can rectify this kind of problem I will not be as confident with hotel.com as before and could look at alternatives kind regards Gordon Faulkner.
