Location was close enough to everything without being right in the middle of traffic. Is a little further than I would want to walk for the beach, but not terrible for getting to downtown shops and restaurants. The home is spacious. It has two bathrooms, but only one shower…this could be difficult for groups traveling with over 3/4. The staircase is definitely not older-adult friendly, but the downstairs rooms are. The beds slept amazing…we are trying to find the same bedding for home. We sat on the porch and enjoyed a great cup of coffee in the mornings…such a great trip!

Charming Cottage

Finding this lovely cottage was serendipitous for us because we were headed home on Super Bowl Sunday and the hotel prices in Louisiana were astronomical. We worked backwards into Mississippi trying to find somewhere reasonable and found this charming place. It was private, clean and quiet with a driveway right up to the porch. It was a real house with a full kitchen, laundry, living room, bedroom and bathroom. There was even a back patio with a seating area that would have been perfect for a cup of coffee and a book. I’m sorry it was just an overnight stopover on our way back home - I seriously could have happily lived there.

Nice little place for you and your wife and our little Chihuahua loved the little fenced in area in the back. The cottage was very clean. Inside parking is a little tight if you got a big vehicle but that’s no big deal. We stayed three nights with no issues. Good water, pressure good hot water. We didn’t really cook there. We ate out.

We loved the quiet location and beautiful neighborhood; it was about 2 blocks from the beach and excellent restaurants and was very walkable. The cottage had cute beachy decor; it had a kitchenette and full sized fridge and a stove and microwave and some basic pots and dishes, as well as a washer/ dryer. They had towels in the bathroom. The only thing I would do differently on the queen bed next time would be take off the foam topper (I sleep hot) and replace it when I leave. We would also take our Amazon firestick with us, because the DirecTV service was spotty.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay; recommend this highly.

We love the privacy and being able to bring our pet. Ruthie our poodle is older and recently has become totally blind. Having the fenced in back space for her to use was a big plus. We visited this property before and plan to again. The entire community is so welcoming. We feel like we are at a home-away-from-home destination.

This was my first experience with a Bed & Breakfast in general. I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing our trip was. The property is well kept, felt very safe and was extremely clean. The night before we stayed in a pretty bad hotel room, so our view might be a little skewed, but the Carroll house was a breath of fresh air. Very well decorated and kept up, even after Katrina. The room was large and very comfortable, the bed was excellent and we slept so well. Did not hear any noise inside the room. The décor was very cozy and nostalgic. Breakfast was simple, but very good. The owner was very friendly. The house is within walking distance of the beach, the little shops, and the depot. Felt very safe. secure parking in the back. For the cost, it was one of the best places we've stayed. Awesome experience.

Great place with a lot of character

Great place with a lot of character in a beautiful 19th-century home. The breakfast was very tasty. We loved sitting on the front porch as well as on the screened-in backporch (the screens have recently been renewed). Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, it was really a joy.

There is an adorable small dog occasionally inside as well as two small birds, and there are a few cats outside (and sometimes on the back porch). We thought it was a great addition and it added to the character, but anyone with allergies may want to keep that in mind; my cat allergies did not kick in.

We had a great time and will be back for sure.

If you are looking for a non-smoking quiet place to stay for a few nights in Old Town Bay St. Louis, then look here. Very nice restored home. Restful B&B within walking distance to everything in BSL. If you are looking for the bright lights and sounds of the Casino, then this is not the place for you. But, if you are looking to be like a guest in a home with your own privacy and off-street parking, then Carroll House is the place.

Our experience at Carroll House was an absolute nightmare. The distinctive scent of mold and mildew hits you when you walk through the door. My husband had a severe allergic reaction and spent the night in his truck b/c he couldn't stay in the house. Additionally, there is small dog inside the house and my toddler is allergic to dogs. There are several cats who live on the screened in porch and are all over the furniture (cloth covered) there. My husband is allergic to cats. The animals were not mentioned on their website or we wouldn't have booked.

We informed them first thing the next AM about the situation and that we would not be able to stay the second night as planned (which had been booked and paid for far in advance). We checked out before the 11am check out time and were forced to find and pay for another room in New Orleans since the MS Gulf Coast was all booked up. We kindly requested a refund. Understanding that they have a business to run and we are respectful of this as small business owners. However, considering the situation was not our fault and the inconvenience we were faced with - wouldn't you think they would refund the night that we did NOT stay there? NO- they did not offer a refund or any consolation and simply denied that there was a problem of mold and mildew. I attempted to contact them by email several times to address the matter and they did not reply.

Also, the bath water was brown and there was rust present in the bathroom. So disappointing.

Time at the cottage

We had a very lovely time at the Carroll House Cottage. Altho the futon in the living room was not the most comfortable for sitting to read etc. and the coffee maker in the kitchen did not work correctly, so if coffee is important you might want to bring your own or plan on walking over to the main house early for coffee... but, overall this cottage is a great value, the host and hostess are nice to visit with, the cats are sweet and Bay St Louis is a great place to visit and enjoy the beach.

Perfect B&B for a Bay St. Louis getaway

My wife and I stayed in the Master Suite for three nights over Mardi Gras & Valentine's Day (February 12th through 14th, 2018). Everything about our stay was better than we'd imagined it could be, from Rebecca's hospitality over the phone, to Jane's scrumptious breakfasts, to Ashley's meticulous attention to our room, and to the enchanting guests we met while there.

In addition to the staff and owners, we loved the character and location of the house itself. It is as quaint and charming as Bay St. Louis is. We were able to leave our car behind, and walk to all of the restaurants, shops, and parades we wanted to visit.

There's no question about whether we want to return for another visit, there's only a question of when we'll be able to do so. Highly recommended for a quiet romantic getaway.

The house is beautiful and clean. Our room was very nice and had a private entrance. Staff was friendly. Food was very good. Quiet neighborhood.
I did learn that I do not like sleep number mattresses. We rang in the new year on the cozy screened back porch with another couple staying there. It was well below freezing but we were having such a nice time.
If we go back to Bay St. Louis we will stay at Carroll House again. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can enjoy the seating areas in the beautiful yard.

i recently relocated to new orleans and was seeking a night away from the city... i researched based on distance, price and character. carroll house was just the right spot! there was some confusion upon my arrival as no one was there to greet me but other than that, i was very happy with my stay. the house is beautiful and reminded me of the one i grew up in... nostalgic! i was in the sunshine room - very roomy and comfortable bed. location is great, close for an evening stroll into town and a morning run along the water. ashley was there for breakfast - i am so glad i met her! she was so kind and friendly, i enjoyed our conversations. will definitely keep this place in mind for my next city getaway.

Great stay in The Bay!

Our recent stay at The Carroll House B&B in Bay St. Louis was wonderful. Little did I know that the hundreds of times I drove and walked past that house when I was young, growing up in Bay St. Louis, that someday I would sleep there or that beyond the lovely gardens in front and the welcoming front porch, is a beautiful old home with tall beadboard ceilings, deep crown and baseboard moldings, original pine floors and a screened in back porch. The combination of all the modern conveniences such as Sleep Number mattresses and fully equipped bathrooms made for a perfectly comfortable and cozy stay. Breakfast on fine china in the dining room was also delicious.

We highly recommend The Carroll House when you are visiting in Bay St. Louis.

On the way back from Florida

We stayed at the Master bedroom for one night from our return from Florida, we wish we could stay an extra night, hosts Jane and Kevin were very nice.

The king bed was comfortable, the area around was lovely, we went to a town center for a dinner, the breakfast was delicious, the company an interesting mix of folks. We will stay here again, thank you Jane and Kevin for letting us stay at your place.

A friend and I wanted a 2 night getaway. We chose the cottage at the Carroll House because it offered 1 bed and 1 futon, a full breakfast, and close proximity to the water, shops, and restaurants. Upon arrival, we found so much more...a lovely main house, a cute apartment adjacent with rocking chairs on the porch where we stayed, friendly/helpful hosts, and a great breakfast. I was very pleased and plan to return another time.

We stayed in the Master Suite which shares a thermostat with another room and is located in the other room (I think it's the Sunshine Room). I was never informed of the location of the thermostat. The first two nights our room was like an oven. The first night I slept on the screened in porch. The second night I slept on the couch in the main house where Kevin found me in the morning. I explained the unbearable situation of the room and asked for a partial refund and a box fan. I received the box fan. I have emailed the Carroll House and requested a partial refund and have still not heard from Jane or seen a credit on my statement.

The cottage is located on the back of the property of this lovely B&B. It is a lovely one-bedroom, with a washer and dryer. It was perfect for our 2-week stay. It's in a quiet neighborhood just 2 blocks from the Gulf and historic downtown with cute shops and restaurants. Bay St. Louis is a great location because it's centrally located so there's much to explore in either direction.
