A bit disappointing - stay in the Fort if you can!
Reasonable accommodations but at an exorbitant price. Paid ~$100 more per night to stay here than other far nicer places on a 10 day tour. Bath didn't drain properly, fridge and heat pump unit were both loud. Minimal view from the room itself to the ocean (small window, people often walking by in front, small deck etc). Also was not aware at the time of booking I'd be placed on a ground floor unit (2 story building, poor sound insulation).
All of this was further compounded by somewhat poor service in the restaurant, which although voted as 'quite nice' in many other reviews, is perhaps better described as 'quirky nice'. It is a steel arch garage-style building but nicely decorated and the food was decent. The more unfortunate aspect of the entire stay was the drunken business owner who forced me to point out waitresses involved in less than ideal service, and launched a repetitive diatribe about how I myself failed in upholding a 'social contract' that should have seen me somehow better express our unhappiness in a way that might lead to resolution. All this, as in wishing to leave, my wife and I had approached the hostess desk to request our bill. I briefly tried to discuss the issue amicably with the owner, but it became clear quickly that there would be no use in further discussion given his inebriated state (I was server when young, now a physician). We left feeling terrible for both of our waitresses (having two was likely the source of our being honestly overlooked).

We had a beautiful ocean view room. Friendly courteous staff. Off the charts hospitable . The room itself surpassed all our expectations. Big , comfortable, had kitchenette , amazing sunrise from our room. The restaurant had excellent food choices and the quality was impressive. The drink selections were impressive and to top it off they had live music . We ate breakfast and dinner at the property . I can’t say enough about the place. Everything from check in to check out was super. We will return .

This is a beautiful property, close to the Fort and the lighthouse. We had an oceanfront room that was perfect except they kept the outside lights on all night. So much for enjoying the darkness of the ocean night.

Fantastic well appointed suites right on the water and right next to Louisbourg fortress. Very bright with lots of windows and amazing views. Owners and staff are helpful and feiendly and restaurants on site and nearby. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the view and sunshine. Overall room was clean but dusty blinds and window sills stood out to me in the sunlight.

An absolute gem of a hotel
The North Star Beach Suites is an absolutely fantastic place to stay! The rooms are perfect, very nicely furnished and with amazing views of the beach. Dinner in their on-site restaurant, The Bothy, was delicious, a truly memorable experience with Colin, one of the hosts, even joining the band for a beautiful song. Our only regret was we only stayed for one night!

What a wonderful stay we had at this beautiful place! Our room was beautifully decorated and lovely and clean with everything we needed for a comfortable nights rest. We had booked a table at The Bothy prior to our stay and we were so pleased we did as it was very busy! A singer and guitarist played all evening and the food was exceptional, what a great place! Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day! Thank you to our Scottish now Nova Scotian hosts....if we are ever in this beautiful part of the world we will definitely be back!

Louisbourg doesn’t have a lot of options, but this was a nicely appointed and very clean property that was very close to downtown and also to the historic French fort/settlement inch was well worth visiting.

I had an ocean view unit with abalcony on the second floor. I was able to sit out and watch the harbour down to the Fortress while sipping on my drink. All the amenities and the layout of the room were excellent. I didn't mind paying a total of $410.00 for the stay including a bowl of chowder but I was alittle put off but being prompted to leave a tip up to twenty percent. I have neverencountered this at a hotel before and seemed a little much.

The idea of having this motel and restaurant was a dream and every effort has clearly been made to bring this dream to reality. The town of Louisburg is struggling but North Star Suites is a diamond, especially for anyone visiting Fortress Louisburg which is in sight from the waterside rooms. The restaurant is also really top notch. We hated to leave.

Our room was non oceanview. It was beautifully renovated and decorated. It was so bright and airy and spacious!

We had to leave early the next morning to get back to Halifax due to the impending Hurricane Lee so did not have an opportunity to sample their breakfast menu.

We happened upon this gem of a property by chance! It was so welcoming and worth every penny. The room was spacious and bed very comfy. Staff made our stay feel special!! The best bonus was our close location to the water. We did not have the chance to explore the town at all but make sure you find the Cabot Trail scenic drive!!

This place is 5 star all the way from the first moment you enter the reception area and Julie greets you with her friendly manner and lovely smile . We were in apt # 17 the cheery driftwood decorations the comfortable bed There was a heat pump for a/c but there were 6 large windows that actually opened and the smell of the sea and the gentle breeze blowing in the room lead to a very restful sleep. Then to the Bothy Restaurant that was so welcoming to the friendly staff And of course the smiles and attention to every detail from Colin and Justin .The food was amazing I recommend the seafood paradelle and the blueberry grunt for dessert .I forget the name of the young man who was the musical entertainment that night but the music was great and we sang along .I felt like I was partying at a friends house .I could go on and on but I highly recommend North Beach suites and The Bothy restaurant you will not be disappointed

Noise from other rooms is easily heard. Would stay again but recommend you book ocean side and bring ear plugs to get a good night sleep.

The stairs to the room are long narrow and dangerous to carry luggage up. One small mirror high on the bathroom wall insufficient . Instructions for the wifi didn’t work initially and tv didn’t work even after following instructions. Had to walk way up to the next building to the office Resturant for ice etc. It had a 4 star price but I wouldn’t rate it higher then 3

This property has a fabulous view right on the beach. Hauling luggage up the stairs can be a bit of a problem. Also, pedestal sinks leave no room to put your toiletries. Suite was well stocked and clean, would be a lovely spot for a couple of nights. Also very close to Fort Louisbourg.

We stayed June 12 2022 and the suite was absolutely gorgeously decked out with yellow tartan. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was very well equipped. The entire complex was very clean and well maintained. The ocean view was such a treat. The staff were very kind. We ate dinner at \"the bothy\" and it was the best halibut we had on our entire trip. Colin and Justin are very personable and they both were our waiters. Thanks for the great experience!

We booked 3 nights in mid-Oct with the intent of seeing the surrounding area: Main-a-Dieu, Gabaraus and especially the Mira River, in rich fall colours. We weren't disappointed. The location is close enough (30 min) to Sydney for us to take in a performance at the Highland Arts Theatre.

What we hope doesn't change are the quiet nights listening to the waves on the beach or the breakfasts. This could be a fabulous property but is thwarted by the lack of upkeep. Our balcony had mold everywhere. Wifi went out for a full night. Called the emergency line, no one answered and the mailbox was full. The view is unmatched with the Louisbourg Fortress across the bay. But at night, your view will be diminished by a glaring street light hanging off the side of the building.

Pre-booked Fortress Louisbourg overnight stay.
The location was convenient for visiting Fortress Louisbourg and the local area was scenic with seaside access on the Lighthouse Trail. The breakfast in the porperty's restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced, service was fast and polite however the staff seemed overwhelmed with the volume of customers and missed basics like having cutlery on the table prior to delivering our coffee and providing timely top-ups of coffee and cream. We repeatedly mentioned needing more cream for coffee top-ups but it never arrived before finishing our meals and being presented with the bill. The room itself was disappointing for the price charged. It fell short of being the \"boutique experience\" that was advertised. Our particular room on the ground floor was not air conditioned, most of the lift-up sash type windows would not open or would not stay open and the two that did remain open were beside each other and didn't provide crossflow of air in the room. Leaving ground floor windows open through the night isn't something most people would feel secure about when visiting an unfamiliar location. A table fan was provided in the room but it was too noisy for sleeping and too powerful for the size of room. The entry door to the room was difficult to lock and unlock and some gaps in the door seal allowed insects to come in on the floor.
We understand the property is under new ownership with intentions to make future upgrades, however, there is more work to do before charging city prices.

The view of the ocean from our balcony was beautiful. We were able to walk down to the rocky beach for a swim as well. The room was spacious though a bit tired in decor and the kitchenette was sparsely equipped. Two sets of cutlery? Breakfast was well prepared and generous. Our hosts were friendly and accommodating. The staff were so lovely and friendly. We were excited to book a room with a view (for a significant upcharge). Sadly we met fog for our entire trip. When we told locals about this, they laughed and laughed - they said everyone knows that Louisebourg has more fog days than anywhere else! GEEZ. The hotel is in rough shape - everything is barren in the rooms and you get the vibe guests are not trusted -supplies are very skippy in terms of supplies in this condo like hotel (e.g., cheap forks, mismatched cheap glasses, only one wine glass, very thin sheets and towels, old/well worn pots, cheap blinds, etc.). The fridge seemed relatively new. A/C worked well. We had just spent 3 days at an amazing place (Hikers Hotel) where they had funky dishes, thick lovely towels, huge assortment of teas, brightly coloured wall, etc. ). The vibe in Point of View Suites is we don't trust our guests so give them everything cheap and in rough condition. We enjoyed our walk along the beach - nice location. Overall, the place needs a lot of tender care -- weeding, paint, and a much more welcoming vibe in the room set up. To conclude: a) do not upgrade and (b) unless the room is under $85, don't stay here.
