The resident restaurant cooked delicious meals too.

This was a great transit hotel experience. Everything went perfectly from the airport transportation back and forth and the great welcome and service. All the staff are well trained. The food at their cafe was very good and the service excellent. My room was very quiet with a great shower and AC. I highly recommend travelers to stay here. Well worth the reasonable price.

Very good service and a perfectly nice motel as our overnight stay before our flight. Our room was pretty clean and quiet despite being in a noise part of town. There was some sand on the floor and the bathroom had the smell from outside but we felt comfortable and it was exactly what we paid for and expected. The staff were very kind and helpful, especially Tatu who set up a table for us outside for dinner. She also organised an airport transfer for us in the morning which made things completely stress free!

This hotel is a good option if you need a hotel close to the airport. Rooms are small but well kept. Staff is very nice. You get what you pay for. The hotel name is confusing on both Hotels.com and google maps. Owner should clarify. Area and access are very poor. Shuttle is good.

We booked a night at the Transit Motel Airport to cool our heels for several hours before an 11pm flight. Pros - very good airlport shuttle service, pleasant staff, clean room. Cons - poor neighborhood, small room, shower looked inadequate, no soap in bathroom.

I see that they seem to have a multi-night minimum stay now, which makes absolutely no sense. An airport hotel is almost by definition an overnight stay, and we wouldn't have wanted to stay more than 1 night there at most.

Nothing really interesting to mention here but the dishonesty of its shuttle driver which told us a higher price than we were told in the reception.

The room is very basic but enough for a night or two, the strength of this hotel is how near the airport it is which is much appreciated considering most of the Main Street that leads you to the airport is under construction leading to longer times to get to the airport if you decide to stay at the city centre

Definitely the worst choice to stay before an early flight. There is no proprer road and it's quite noisy outside. The room itself is also very badly equipment with old aircon and a fan that produce a lot of noise. The bedsheets and mattress felt like they are made of plastic because it was really uncomfortable and made you sweat like crazy. Never again

Great location, friendly staff with transportation to and from Julius Nyrere Airport. I stay at Transit Hotel Airport during my annual travel to Tanzania which requires regional flights from the Airport. Reliable driver arranged by the Motel. During my last stay the Motel was under renovation and no longer had in-house food preparation with LONG waits for a meal. Hopefully this will be better in 2024! A great value and pleasant experience.

This is a perfect place for a quick overnight stopover close to the Dar es Salaam airport. It is very well priced and has everything you need, including a little restaurant and bar! The air conditioning was a blessing mid-summer. We would definitely stay here again if we have an overnight stopover in Dar!

The Transit Motel in Dar offers excellent service and value for those looking for a simple place to rest between flights in Dar es Salaam. I've stayed multiple times when arriving on a late night flight and have a connecting flight to the interior the next morning. Staff have always been helpful and responsive when needed.

First of all they did not pick us up from the airport as arranged. We paid an extortionate amount for a 5 minute journey because of that. On arrival the room was very dimly lit and swarming with flies and mosquitos. There were squashed roaches on the wall! The toilet was heavily stained and there was no water in the taps. We were moved to another room that was almost the same except there was water. We took uber to a mall almost an hour away and hung out there to avoid the room. When we returned at 10pm we had until 1am extremely loud club music playing somewhere in the building or the grounds preventing us from sleeping. As a local place to wash and rest before a long flight it absolutely failed. The woman at reception was one of the most idle service industry personnel ive ever encountered. Barely responded with a grunt when asked for a cleaner room with water. Bottom line - the traffic doesnt seem bad here....stay at a hotel further from the airport.

I have nothing good to say about this hotel other than it was very close to the airport and therefore convenient. Otherwise the room was not clean and the bed rock hard. We were given one towel to share between us and a bar of soap.The staff were not interested in their job. The lady that did breakfast seemed to be not interested in serving us and didn't seem friendly. The taxi from the airport was late and we had to remind the hotel to pick us up. However, it was only 5 dollars much cheaper than the taxi service at the airport. I suppose if you need only one night transferring to another place and don't mind a hard bed and poor service then a cheap hotel like this one is OK to put up with.

This was exactly what we needed after traveling for 30 hours. Comfortable beds for the few hours we were there between flights.
Nice free breakfast(crepes).
The only negative was that our arranged shuttle was not at the airport waiting as I had arranged so I had to pay double taking a taxi.

Amazing for a short layover in Dar

I was not expecting much for my stay as I was laying over for just a couple of hours for two different occasions but they exceeded my expectations. Service was excellent as I was even served breakfast at 2:30 AM. Air conditioning was working well for the two different rooms I stayed in. Highly recommend if you are just staying over for a couple of hours waiting for the flight rather than stay in the airport which is not really spacious and not a lot of places to stay while waiting for the flight.

Property was very conveniently located near Dar Es Salaam airport. My transfers from Zanzibar Fast Ferry to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport worked flawlessly. It was pleasant being able to relax in the comfortable air conditioned room prior to my 1 am departure to the airport. Hotel nice and quiet. It is the second time that I have stayed at the Transit Motel and this overnight stay was equally as good. All the staff (including their driver) were friendly, helpful and responsive and the room is fine for an overnight stay. This is a great, simple, clean place to stay. People should be aware that the hot water needs to be turned on about a half hour before taking a shower. The button looks like a light switch that has a little red light on it. The neighborhood isn't great, but the motel has a wall and a guard. I would highly recommend getting their driver to pick you up at the airport.

Avoid this \"Transit\"

We have traveled all over the world and have reasonable expectations about accommodations in different areas of the world. We selected this hotel because of a very long layover and very early flight back to the US. It is indeed close to the airport but that is vastly outweighed by the conditions of the room and the property as a whole. It was very cheap but as always, you get what you pay for. To reach the hotel, you are driven down a rutted dirt road. The room was so dirty that we put our luggage in the shower to protect against possible vermin. We had dinner with the rest of our family prior to their earlier flight and waited three hours for bowls of soup. It is in a sketchy area and you can't really walk elsewhere to eat so you're stuck there. They do have a taxi that sits outside the lobby so it is convenient to return to the airport. The airport has nowhere to sit and wait and no interior restaurants and closes overnight. You would be well advised to book at one of the hotel chains farther out and plan your time accordingly.

Definitely not a 3 star hotel - maybe 1/2 star or no star. Driving to the hotel there were potholes big enough to swallow the vehicle. It was behind a 12’ fence and really scary. The room was adequate and appeared clean. The bathroom was kinda of disgusting - one small sink with a cold water tap and NO water in the shower. The staff at the front desk was polite and we paid approx, $5 to get to the airport.

When we arrived at the hotel the reception girl was not expecting us. She stated that we had already checked in. When we pointed out that we hadn’t she told us to wait for 20 minutes while she cleaned a room. When she showed us to the room it only had one bed. I had booked and paid for a twin room. She stated that this was the only room available as she had given my room away. When I asked for a refund she looked at me blankly and said send an email!

Close Proximity to Dar Airport

Hotel reception staff allowed me to check in early and they were very kind and hospitable. I booked the hotel shuttle to take me to the airport and we left at the appointed time and the price was quite reasonable (half the price taxis charge). Compared to my previous stay at Transit Hotel, the internet access was not so great. There was less noise pollution during this visit compared to my previous stay from the neighbouring area, it could have been because it was Sunday rather than a week day.

Hotel close to airport

Transit Hotel is very close to Dar airport and a convenient place to stay if you have time between flights - traffic to downtown Dar can be counter productive to booking a hotel further away from the airport. Transit Hotel is not located in a quiet area, it is close to train tracks and there is a lot of other noise in the area if you are a light sleeper or are looking for peace and quiet. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Maybe okay for a one night stay

I stayed 1 night as I was making my way from Uganda to Zanzibar. It's okay for a 1 night stay. Be advised that the Internet wasn't working, so I'm not sure if it was false advertising or if it was down for the day. The hotel itself is decent, but it's not super. Bottled water was guaranteed, but I needed to ask for it. There was no TV remote despite having asked for one, so basically the TV was not operational as there was no sound, and it was stuck on one station. The local area is 100% dodgy. I didn't feel safe leaving the hotel's property. On the positive side, it's very near the airport and only takes 5 or 10 minutes to get there.

We had to stay close to the airport because our flight was scheduled to leave at 4AM. The beds are terrible, the pillow was like a rock, the air conditioner did not work and there was a club outside the window that blasted music all night. And don’t even think about going outside of their gates. At least the food in the restaurant was decent.

This was my 3rd stay at the Transit Motel Airport. The rooms are basic and clean. The water is at best warm, but you don't really need hot showers in Dar--the coolness is refreshing. What's best is the staff. They are extremely helpful and provided breakfast to us even though we were leaving the hotel at 5 am. They have an airport shuttle that costs $5 one way, and if you call in advance, they will pick you up with a signboard outside the airport arrival area.

Convenient hotel for the airport

Staff were very helpful and found me a taxi to take me to downtown Dar es Salaam when I had an afternoon to spare before an early morning flight the next day. The taxi driver did a lot of work for the hotel and offered to wait for me and to show me a bit more of the city on the way back. The fare he charged seemed reasonable.
I wanted to be at the airport which was only about 5 to 10 mins drive away at 4.00 a.m. The staff were very helpful in arranging a taxi to take me there at that time. Although walkable distance I would not have wanted to walk alone, taking luggage, through what looked a fairly rough area so the transport was very welcome.
The facilities were quite basic, but it was clean and functional and the restaurant was open all day till late, with a bar and tasty, if simple, food.

The receptionist acted put out when ever I had a question. I was the only person in the restaurant other than the server. She was busy watching a soap on TV. When I ordered, she informed me there was no beef, so I asked if I could have chicken stir fry,she said yes and brought me fried chicken. The air con was broken and fan squeaked. The shower was just a dribble, you could hardly get wet, but in the end it didn't matter, because it was only cold water.
This is my first negative reviews, but so much was bad, I couldn't not.

Great transit hotel for airport

We stayed overnight with an evening arrival and early morning departure. We had arranged with the hotel for transport from the airport, and they were waiting for us upon arrival. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, arranging for breakfast at 5 am (a delicious full hot breakfast). The rooms were clean and beds comfortable, with mosquito nets and air conditioning, as well as a ceiling fan. The hotel arranged for early transport back to the airport as well. The things that could be improved are hotter water (my shower was cool but fine--didn't really need a super hot shower) and brighter light in the room (dim, so a bit hard to read).

OK For a Cheap Night's Airport Layover Rest

Had 9 hours at night in Dar between flights so I wanted to be close to the airport and this was the closest. Got in late and asked about hot water for a shower and was told \"it is broken.\" Other friends came through the next day and were told the same thing. Bathroom had a mildew smell and fixtures were quite old. I choose not to shower. Bed was nice though and the sheets clean so I did sleep for about 5 hours before leaving for my flight. I have had much better buffet breakfasts in African hotels but it was passable here. Only go to this hotel if all you need is to sleep and have a flush toilet. Price was great thought.

Clean and convenient for Airport

This hotel is perfect if you have odd flight times and need to stay close to the Airport. It is very simple, but clean. Although it is across the street from the Airport, I would still take their shuttle ($5 per way) as it goes through a bus \"night market\" area, which would be busy to walk with bags and I imagine crossing the street would not be easy (and not safe!).
They have a restaurant which was fine. They make the food from scratch but it does take a while.
Overall...great simple option close to airport.

We needed a place to stay as we had a 10 hour layover until our next flight. We wanted am inexpensive, clean place near the airport where we could shower, watch TV, grab a bite and maybe sleep. The room was as advertised - small, clean and the beds were comfortable. Not a quiet place so I wouldn't want to have stayed all night and the TV only received one channel that wasn't very good. Had supper in the restaurant and it was quite good.

Bad hotel in a bad neighbourhood

Very bad hotel and I'd not recommend it. There is a night club inside the same building and it was VERY noisy until 03:00 a.m. I couldn't sleep because of the loud music and screaming people. The room was very basic and not comfortable at all. Breakfast was pathetic. Neighbourhood is dodgy and it looks quite dangerous at night.

Perfect Transit Motel

Highly recommend this motel for anyone who just needs a place for a night between flights! The facility was clean, the staff was great, they have a shuttle to and from the airport at a very reasonable price! Great location (5 min drive or less to the airport). Wifi, complementary breakfast, comfy beds- really great deal for the price! I live in TZ, so I will be recommending all my visitors stay here in between their flights!

Transit Hotel - Solo female traveller

Great location for airport and overnight stay it's not 5 star and while basic you have to give it 10/10 as it more than does the job. Room size very good and room/sheets clean - bathroom tired but clean. Tea/Coffee available all night and reception 24/7. Staff very friendly & extremely helpful. Secure 'compound' hotel as it's not an area to go wondering around at night. Their driver/taxi was great and knows his way around Dar - he was happy to wait around for a couple of hours while I meet up with people in the city and take me back to the hotel (all great for a solo female traveller). (Transit Hotel is really only 5 min from airport but traffic & roads allow 15 - for city about 50min allow up to 1 1/2 hrs).

A reasonable hotel close to the airport

We had a bad experience in a Dar hotel a couple of years ago but this one was fine, not 4 star but very clean and an acceptable breakfast. The staff were very helpful and had arranged pick up from the airport which was essential due to late arrival. The road to the hotel is terrible but don't let that put you off, once you arrive it is fine!

We'll, the plus is that it is close to the airport.but that's about it. It is quite overpriced for what you get. At $50USD a night, there was no hot water at all, the TV had 3 channels, and no other services. The room smelled of moth balls because they leave the toilet/urinal balls in the bathroom which gave me quite a bad migraine. And I am used to staying in village hotels and am easy to please.

To compare, I'm staying in the heart of old town Istanbul with hot water, free breakfast and a view of the city in the breakfast lounge for the same price.

I wouldn't stay there again for that price. There's a large new hotel right next door that looks nicer.

Useful while waiting for my flight

I arrived at around 6pm having flown in from Zanzibar, but had to wait for my connecting flight at 4.00am, so I had booked a room at this hotel.
The receptionist was welcoming and showed me to my room. This was clean and comfortable, perfect for my requirements for a shower and a few hours sleep. I asked her if I could have a taxi collect me at 2.00am to take me to the airport and she said that would be fine. I also asked if there was somewhere I could get a cup of tea and a bottle of water, she directed me to the dining room where I got both of these.
There was also WiFi in the room which was useful.

Affordable, helpful staff, convenient to airport

I was very pleased with the helpfulness of the staff, check in was easy, my wake up call was on time since I had to catch a 5:00 am flight, and the drive to the airport by the security guard was very helpful ($5). my room was basic but clean and reasonably comfortable. The hotel is very simple but it was just what I needed for a 1-night stay, convenient to the airport (instead of downtown) for an early morning flight out of Dar.

the hotel was clean great /good food , but no tea/ coffee in the rooms or in a place where you can get to it . so please can the transit make a plan with this . and the beer was cold . I well be back for a stay again

I would have never chosen this hotel

Expedia gave me this hotel, as a result of a mistake in the change of the timetable of the last log of a long plane trip I bought from you. I cannot believe that you sent me to this cave. Apart from being in an area that is a hole in the world, when I picked up the receiver to make a call, a cockcroach was waiting for me there. The shower flooded the bathroom and we were in the middle of the water. The \"restaurant\" had a menu to choose from, but when I chose (and other guests the same) the bad mannered waitress said THERE IS ONLY FRIED CHICKEN AND FRIES. So why do they give the menu to choose from? She nearly threw the food to us. The wake up call was made to me 20 min after due time. I had only one towel and had to claim for another for my wife. It was like a jail.

Good price

We stayed just for a couple of hours in between flights. The room is simple, but has airco and a mosquito net.
For 50 dollars you can't expect much more I think.

Convenient

As others have mentioned this is a good, basic hotel for the price. It is close to the airport and saves the drive into Dar es Salaam. As an \"older\" woman traveling alone and arriving late at night, it was comforting to see the arranged taxi driver waiting with a sign with my name on it. The surrounding area is a bit rough but I felt totally safe once inside the gates of the motel. It would have been nice to have a bottle of water in the room. I would not have felt safe leaving the grounds to go to the nearby stores.

Convenient hotel near hotel

This is very convenient to the Dar es Salaam airport but that's all that can be said for it. Stay there only if you have a very early morning flight. The room was clean and the bed not too bad but the bathroom was awful. By the time my husband had taken a shower the floor was completely flooded.

one night stay

I stayed one night at the Transit Hotel with my daughter as we had an early flight out the next morning. They picked us up at the airport and took us to the motel (5$). Quick ride in the dark through a poor neighborhood, but nothing menacing - just eye-opening!. Clean rooms. I asked for our rooms to be next to each other and they obliged. Friendly staff not much English, but it didn't matter. They had a simple breakfast for us - included. Easy, simple place for a layover - better than fighting Dar traffic if you're just coming straight back out. I'd recommend them highly.

Basic but much better than expected

Clean room, double bed, air con and private bathroom. Friendly staff and safe environment.

Be sure to take small change in dollars ($5's & $10's) as you will NOT get change.

Agree a price on taxi before you get in and ensure you have the right money (again no change will be given)
