This resort would have been stunning when it opened. Needs some TLC however I love older places filled with character so for me it was fantastic - just be prepared for a rustic, run-down experience. Pricing is affordable.
The restaurant was delicious and so cheap!

My son and I were traveling through Bali post Covid and I believe that all reviews including this one need to take into account that many of the accommodations in Bali are newly opened after being closed for two years. Gajah Mina is at the end of a very small road. As you approach keep this in mind and trust Google maps. They are actively renovating the lobby area but there is clear signage to check in at their Secret Bay restaurant. Leave your car or bike parked by the lobby lot and follow signs to the restaurant. Staff will help with bags. It’s a little worrying as you arrive but the staff was super friendly and welcoming. Our room was spotless and the ac had even been turned on before we arrived. The included breakfast was simple toast butter jam and coffee but the bread and jam were homemade and really good. The owner is French and the property reflects a European design sense. The bungalows were well kept and pleasingly designed with garden views. The pool was large and clean. This is a large property that includes two spectacular points with surf and sunset views and a beautiful private bay in between. We only used our stay as a stopover between travel days around Bali. This would make a good place to stay if you were looking to surf or were traveling with a family. There are no easy options for eating within walking distance but everything we had at the restaurant was good. Gajah Mina was doing a great job.

I booked a room but when i showed up no one qassat the property. I walked around the extensive grounds but found no staff, amd the reception building was padlocked. I ended up having to scramble to find another place to stay.

Expedia had bettwr refund me on this.

Gajah Mina is so peaceful, it was the perfect place for me to relax and enjoy the environment. The restaurant, Secret Bay restaurant, is in such a perfect place overlooking Secret Bay ... wow what a fabulous view for breakfast each morning.
The pool was wonderful too with both shade and sun areas.
The villa itself was quite secluded, which was just what I was looking for.

Like living in a Hokusai (the famous wave painting artist ). Magic location and artful design. Only 12 separate Balinese cabins , my had private yard with garden gate and six foot high ivy covered walls. I almost don't want to give too good a review, least this Magic location gets over burdoned by tourists like much of Bali.

Peaceful resort in a natural setting by the sea

The Gajah Mina Beach Resort is a peaceful getaway from the overcrowded tourist areas further east. Set behind a beautiful black sand beach nestled between two cliffs, the resort provides the perfect place to relax in the cool breezes coming off the ocean. One of the cliffs hides a small cave that goes through to another little hidden beach. The cave is home to hundreds of bats and at least one large monitor lizard.

The restaurant is positioned to catch the sea breezes and give diners a view of the waves rolling into the beach. It provides excellent European and Indonesian food with some special touches -- try the smoked marlin and the roasted Balinese duck. The drinks -- especially those using local arak -- are delicious.

Each bungalow has its own walled compound set in a large garden of tropical flowers and tall coconut trees. The outdoor showers are delightful. The pool is pleasantly large, but the real swimming delight is the beach with its frothy white surf. More challenging waves can be found at Mejan Beach a ten-minute walk away. Mejan has miles of fine sand and big waves you share only with a few local fishermen. A ten-minute walk in the other direction takes you to the more touristy Balian Beach with restaurants and massage places. Walking along the rocky beach to the east you come to a beautiful little river for a fresh water soak.

Gajah Mina, designed and owned by a Frenchman some 28 years ago, shows its age here and there, but it has aged gracefully.

This property is old. Staff not friendly like rest of Bali.
Property very out of the way. Other guests impressed with their room, 3 bedroom Villa.
Our 2 bedroom unit, rooms actually separate buildings. Had issues with management.
Over all not impressed.
Expedia were fantastic and very understanding as room was simply not what Gajah Mina advertise.

A little paradise on Earth. A bit remote from the busy part of Bali, but if you're looking for a tranquil vacation, this is an excellent place. The individual bungalows are separated by adequate garden space so you have your own privacy. The houses are decorated in traditional Balinese style, the shower is outdoor with a little nice garden beside it and fenced off from the rest of the garden. The black sand beach is beautiful and unpopulated. The sea is wild, so if you're not a good swimmer be careful. The Resort provides nice massage, they tend to be busy, but no worries, not far from the resort there are two other massage places. Also at a walking distance there are a few grocery stores for your everyday needs. Pool is amazing. The restaurant offers fine food for very reasonable prices, so one don't really feel like going away for a dinner. But if you want to, there are a few other resorts and restaurants not far from here on the seaside. The staff is super nice. This place is recommended to visitors who want a peaceful quiet vacation away from the bustling party centre of Bali.

Great spot on the beach / cove, friendly staff, clean rooms grounds, nice gardens, some maintenance needed around pool area, We had the resort to ourselves most of our stay, short ride to the village - very local place, and over to river mouth surf break Only 1 break - very crowded. Excellent spot to relax for a few days. Not much else to do nearby.

During our stay in gajah mina resort our cottage door lock was brocken. There was no rachel outside of bathroom which afected the privacy . Room was hot all the time and coffee maker was brocken . They didnt even check anything before assigning.

Красивая территория, очень тихо (не считая шума моря) и мало народу. К сожалению все ужасно с кондиционерами в бунгалах для молодожен, днем просто нереально жарко. Стоят два кондиционера который практически не работали. Номера старенькие и изрядно потертые. Завтраки тоже так себе, на выбор сок, кофе и одно блюдо.

Very out-of-the-way oldschool resort

We enjoyed our five day trip we would recommend this resort we stayed in the honeymoon suite our children teenagers stayed in a regular Gardenview room rooms were comfortable a little dated and definitely need more cleaning. My feet were black when I got in the bathtub walking barefoot around the room. Restaurant has delicious food breakfast some of the best I’ve eaten hotels very good service welcoming service motorcycles were rented for 100,000 in one day or 80,000 for two or more days but I am in Ubud in renting a motorcycle for 60,000 per day. Also the airport transport back was 600,000 it only cost me 280,000 to come from the airport in Grab. I tipped 50,000. There’s nothing to do in the neighborhood the other restaurants are really not very good you can swim at the beach or serve or enjoy the view of the ocean and relax And swim in the swimming pool it’s a very nice chill out resort other than that you’re going to drive a long way to find a decent temple to visit or other activity.

We were really disappointed with our stay this time at Gajah Mina. The villas were worn down and dirty and the water pressure was really bad. Previously when we have stayed here, the staff has been really attentive, friendly and service has been good. Now, there seemed to be a different atmosphere among the staff which affected the whole environment. We got a feeling that we were a burden as guests and their response on services was poor. It took 1-2 hours to get served for every meal at their restaurant which was tiring. Several people walked out before the servings due to the delays. The staff needs to up their game and assets upgraded/maintained if they want to stay in business.

very expensive for what it is ,we got 46% off through Wotif and still paid like $66 a night.
We stayed at a $30 a night room in Canggu for 3 nights previous, that id rate better than this. I can see the resort in its day would have been beautiful, now abit run down , needs alot of maintaince. Hot water lasts for about 5min and dont expect any water pressure at peak time, air cond remote broken couldnt change temp. front door fell off about 3 times , maintance guys keeped coming quickly : ) , staff where helpful.
the place is remote, which we expect no water pressure. food was ok ,but very slow.

PRO. For surfing its right there. Great little warungs close by, with really good food. Grounds are fantastic and nice pool. laundry is very expensive cheaper outside, clean , beds are ok, 2 singles pushed together.

To be honest when i go back to Balian , there are a few smaller place just around the corner that id try .
Overall it wasnt terrible , it is comfy and clean but i wouldnt go back.

Lovely place along stunning coastline

This place is tucked away yet a very short walking distance from Balian main hub. You can walk to yoga class, cafe and return to a quiet oasis . Rooms are arranged so you have a private view into the gardens.
The pool is lovely and the staff most helpful.

The resort has beautiful grounds and the restaurant is great but it appears very empty of people. The room wasn’t really clean and there was slippery mould on the the tiles next to the big pool that was dangerous. Overall the place feels a little unloved. Maybe there is an absent owner.

We had the most beautiful, ocean view, one bedroom villa. Stunning coastline with sensational views and it own 'secret' bay, as well as a fantastic swimming pool. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts and dinners were wonderful. Definitely far from the madding crowd. Do yourself a favour; stay here and find your own small slice of paradise......we did.

Amazing place. The views are to died for. Customer service is top notch. The food at Secret Bay is beyond delicious and the property is well maintained. Be sure to use the spa services. I had an amazing body wrap and massage. By far, Gajah Mina Beach Resort is the best places I have stayed at in all of my travels (30 countries).

Could be better....

屋裡有很多壁虎，半夜還會發出很大的叫聲，會把人嚇醒的程度！隔天請飯店來把大壁虎趕走或讓我們換房間，卻只派人來做例行性的打掃，所以隔天晚上又被大壁虎叫聲嚇醒了！
除了壁虎以外，其他環境氣氛很好，餐點很好吃！

Schlechter Service, in die Jahre gekommene Villa

Wir hatten die Villa mit Pool gebucht. Abgesehen davon, dass sie erst unsere Buchung nicht gefunden haben und uns dann auf Verdacht ewig warten liessen, weil sie das Zimmer erst einmal putzen mussten, ist diese Villa sehr in die Jahre gekommen und leider nicht gut gepflegt. Warmes Wasser gab es keines. Allgemein dürfte mehr Pflege in die Anlage gesteckt werden.

The location of the hotel and the gardens are beautiful and the restaurant staff very friendly.
The rooms should be better maintained. The door to our outside bathroom could not be locked, as well as two windows. The fittings in the shower did not work properly. There were no guest amenities, which seemed surprising, considering the price of the room.

Dit resort ligt op loopafstand van Balian Beach. Het is een mooie hotel met een schitterend locatie, dat lijkt in een andere wereld te liggen dan Kuta. Wij waren hier in de lage seizoen, en wij misten wat sfeer, maar OK. Het personeel zou ook meer betrokken kunnen zijn. Je krijgt hier wel behoorlijk wat. Daar betaal je ook (voor Indonesie) veel voor.
