Voco Newbury Hotel is a spotless place with beautiful, large rooms that have everything you need. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. The staff was okay overall. The only downside is the noise, it’s very easy to hear everything from the rooms upstairs, including walking, talking, and other noises, which can be disruptive.

Barely any pillows in room. The entire stay was so loud from hearing the loud music from bar area to something hitting our windows at midnight and loud stomping/running above us all night. Barely slept. Tv had lines through it. The mirror option on remote didn’t work. Water kept going hot to cold in shower. Wouldn’t recommend. Restaurant next store had limited menu of pizza and one burger. Restaurant in hotel was closed.

Our visit started with Christy at the front desk. We had arrived prior to check-in time. She found a room for us and quickly had us on our way to our beautiful room. The rooms are spacious, luxurious, quiet and well appointed. Breakfast was delicious; service was warm and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

An overall wonderful place to stay. Room was clean, beds were comfortable however there were old stains across the carpet but otherwise the room itself was clean and comfortable. The morning staff in the downstairs restaurant were very friendly and provided a wonderful service and delicious breakfast. Our only major complaint is the walls are thin. You can here next room conversations, babies crying, etc. The overall hotel and view of the river is fery nice as is the quaint town it rests in.

Amazing ambience, lovely scenery upon the bank of Hudson. Easy drive to Hudson and Bard College. The only thing to mentally prepare for is that life is not as fast paced as NYC. Go with the flow and be nice to the staff because during high season they take care of lots of people without up staffing.

The hotel and grounds are gorgeous. A lot of thought went into the design and it shows. We loved the open modern feel of the room and view of the Hudson was amazing. We also loved the electric shades allowing an almost blackout experience. The staff was very accommodating. They filled our small cooler with ice daily since they don’t have a public ice maker. Having a gym right next door was perfect and although I was not able to book a massage due to time constraints, I loved the option of the spa being right next door. There was an issue with booking a massage online during my stay when trying to find a time that worked for me, but the staff helped by getting me the phone number and I did get a text back very quickly.
A few nit picky things that would improve the experience would be to swap out the plastic shower curtains, have tissues in the room and the option of feather pillows. Also for security consider having the elevators only work if the person has a room card like other major hotels.
Side note: Currently the waterfront area is being rejuvenated. There are some restaurant options close by, but not a lot of shops. From what I learned, there is a big push to renovate and get shops open. Once that happens this will be a great little gem. Right now it’s a great place to stay if you are ok with hanging out at the nearby park and driving about a half hour to Hudson or Catskill for shops. (And many of those only open later in the week - Wednesday or Thursday - Saturday).

Hotel was lovely - they've made a lot of improvements since we were there last. A couple of things though - they had a live band when we arrived around 9pm, which normally would be nice but since the lobby/check in area and elevators were in the same area as the bar, and the music was really loud - our baby 7mo old ended up waking up when we arrived. Maybe the music would be better suited on the patio deck, versus the same area as check in for those looking for a quieter arrival. Additionally the pillows could be a little nicer, but overall we had a nice experience and were able to get our baby right back to bed when we got in the room.

Loved everything about this hotel! I am a super picky traveler. This place was awesome! It was super clean and very comfortable. The bedding was fluffy and fresh. Everyone was so friendly. It's a charming small town with great, reasonably-priced food nearby. The view was beautiful. The welcome cookies were delicious. It had everything and more that you could want in a hotel. We were traveling through the airport in Albany, and we are so happy that we found this place. We would love to return when we are in the area!

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights to do some hiking in the Catskills area. The hotel was very clean and spacious. The receptionist was very welcoming. It was by the river in a residential area with a couple of restaurants and stores along the street, so the area was quiet. Some of the buildings along the street were not occupied.

We were attending a wedding in Coxsackie, NY and the hotel was well located and the rooms were spacious with river views. The style was minimalist and too minimal for my taste. There was not a box of tissues in the room and the lighting was not good for my wife to put on her make up for the wedding. Mirrors were also not convenient.

He stood there talking to us with his hands in his pockets and shrugging his shoulders that he couldn’t help us with basically anything. To be welcomed into a property that was supposed to be this amazing getaway for us this was the worst interaction. His tone and attitude definitely need a major check.

Catskills stop

We arrive there later on the afternoon to visit some family in the area. The room was very nice minimalistic but nice. The lobby is very comfortable for social activities. There’s no breakfast buffet, but there is a breakfast service in a bar on site. There is pool however there is a spa for pay and free gym
There is a pub offering food next door and a few eateries in the area as well a cute little mercantile
The hotel offers generous views of the Hudson river. There is an upstairs bar that is open on Thursdays, Thursday nights. It is very close to hiking the Catskill mountains and lots of outdoor activities. Not so good for kids. There’s not a lot of things for families to do, but it is good for, a weekend getaway things like that. My only complaint is The bed closest to the bathroom you can hear every noise is coming from the shower and even though the light is dim, it’s very hard to sleep through that. Even though they’re dark out, curtains were amazing when we go back, probably for the view, even though we have a seven-year-old it was OK.

Gem of a Hotel

This is a very stylish new hotel; our room was fresh, airy & modern with floor-to-ceiling windows on 2 sides, giving us a panoramic view of local riverside park, the Hudson, and the hotel grounds. Modern, spacious bathroom. Really amazing. Short walk to park with recreation or hangout options. Reed Street historic district is just a block away and - while currently just a few options - it is poised to explode with more shopping and eating and activities. Hotel is a gem and served us well as our home base to family trip to Hudson Valley.

The hotel itself was beautiful as was the property around it. However, the hotel restaurant and bar were both closed, we purchased a premium room with a river view and our view was not quite that. The google chrome-cast was not working. And unfortunately there is nothing really around this town. No where to go for dinner or dessert. Normally this wouldn’t have been that much of an issue but we had planned on going to the hotel restaurant for my birthday dinner and then binge watching our current show, neither of which were able to happen, so that was a real let down. Mostly disappointed that we paid a premium rate for a subpar experience, it was quite a splurge for us to book this nice of a room.

The hotel and rooms are very nice. What’s not great: 1. The continental breakfast is a joke…some bagels and yogurt. That’s it. 2. The ‘fitness Center’ is the size of a closet that fits maybe 3 people, and 3) The restaurant and bar are only open until 3pm on Sunday. Also, there’s no lounge or comfortable seating outside, which is strange for a hotel on the shore of the Hudson River.

Also on the property is a pub with a diverse menu and outdoor seating overlooking the banks of the river. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. New hotel and great rooms.

A Hotel bar that closes at 9pm?

Nice hotel with great views of river. The staff is OK but not very inviting and kinda rude. Walked in after dinner at 9pm on a Saturday night and went to have a drink at and the bartender in a rude tone goes \"Nope bars closed with a smirk. I have never stayed at any hotel where bar closes at 9pm on a saturday. I prob wont be back .

What a gem! This beautiful riverfront property delivers on all fronts - staff, location, cleanliness, waterfront view, fitness center, amenities, parking, event space …wow - we couldn’t have asked for more. The breakfast by the river while watching the dogs play as the sun came up was so pleasant. Wish we could have stayed longer. Truly the folks at this hotel over delivered in every way. Absolutely recommend you enjoy a stay at the James Newbury!

Room was hot and air conditioning kept going into sleep mode so I kept waking up hot and then the alarm was set for 4:00 a.m. for some reason and the restaurant was right above me which I heard late at night and early in the morning and it was just no quiet in the room.
