The location of the hotel is fantastic - by the Grand Canal and only 5 min walking from the train station - and the staff was very helpful. But the room doesn't look special - the shower box is very very small, view is not good (we could only see other windows). And it is a pricy hotel - so the final decision depends on what you are looking for.

Property has great location. Across the train station. Just need to go over 1 bridge. Easy walking distance to many restaurants, squares. 20 to 25 mins walk from San Marco.
Rooms could use some modernization. Noise, vibration of windows or shutters , construction waking you up in the morning. Shower seal to the tub leaking and falling out.

Satff was courteous and accommodating.

Very cute traditional property. Fantastic location with windows that overlooked the grand canal, easy to get in/out of Venice. The staff was really kind and helpful! Lots of fantastic restaurants nearby and just across the canal from the public ferry.

Had a quiet courtyard just outside our door. Across the canal from the train station.

Venice has canals and stairs and stairs and stairs to cross those many canals. Don't want to haul luggage. Many porters with carts are available to help.

I gave the staff 5 star, the location is also convenient, cross the grand canal from Venice central train station. The breakfast was decent.
The facility need upgrades. Our room which is a “canal view is horrible! There was a huge flag pole right in front of the tiny window blocking the view. The bed and the entire furniture needs to be replace ASAP. The Duvet on the bed needs to be replaced. There was electric out let to plug in our charger, the guy at the front desk told us to unplug one of the lamps to plug in our charger. 2 people can not fit in the bathroom at the same time. There was open can of beer in the fridge no water and was still left there after reporting it. Housekeeping need to be improve.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is in an older building, but still very well maintained. The complimentary breakfast left a little to be desired. But that was more of a cultural difference than a lack of quality. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We would stay at this hotel again.

While the family room is touted as a room for 4 adults, it is cramped and the amenities are minimalistic, The living area has a double bed and 2 single beds with limited closet space and the bathroom needs serious renovation,

The breakfast is decent and staff & location are good but it isn't worth the price since the family room isn't canal facing. The La Cupola race restaurant gets packed due to the view but it is quite over-priced if you consider the food taste / authenticity except the desserts.

I understand that Venice is old and that’s their charming but for the price they charge that hotel and called a 4 stars there is a huge difference, the beds are so old and a little uncomfortable and the pillows so flat, the shower so small too.

I have stayed at The Carlton on The Grand many times. The reception staff were very polite and helpful…a vast improvement from the last time we stayed.
The Canal facing Junior suite was lovely. Although the bath was cracked at the bottom and leaked water. It was known about by the hotel as they had already tried to repair it.
Overall, I think this was my best stay, I would now be very happy to book this hotel again in future.

Would never go there again. They had a cruise that booked their stay before their ship sailed. They took over the breakfast area it was so packed it was had to get our breakfasts and the wait was too long. It was so packed it was so hard to get coffee. The hotel catered to the large group and not the individual guests. As for the room, the bathroom was actually dangerous as the space was too small and the tub/ shower was difficult to use and the tub floor wobbled, so very unstable. The rooms need major updates. The front desk staff do not extend themselves to be helpful and can make you feel you are bothering them.

The hotel is beautiful, especially the common areas, which are well-maintained and create a great first impression. The location is also very convenient, making it easy to explore the area.
However, the rooms are quite small and feel a bit outdated. While the room was clean, it did not match the the rest of the property.
The main issue during our stay was the air conditioning. The room was very hot, and despite trying multiple times to adjust the temperature, only warm air was coming out. This made it uncomfortable to sleep, and we ended up having to keep the window open at night because we were sweating.

The room was nice but very very hot. No fan was offered. Just opening windows to the courtyard where people smoked. So that came into the room and I have asthma.
When I first got there I accidentally left the door open after carrying my and my wife’s large luggage in. An employee was angry I had left it open. I apologized as he angrily snarled at me then proceeded to sit in his chair. Needless to say, I did not feel welcome when I first got there. However, the rest of the staff was friendly and the breakfast was good.

Location was great! Hotel staffs were excellent. A staff named Katia was excellent.
Hotel provides really good breakfast.
Rooms are ok. My kids had a good laugh when they saw the hair dryer.
The heating system was aweful. We visited this week (Jan, 2026) and the rooms got too hot. It wasn't pleasant. The heating is controlled centrally and doesn't allow guest to adjust heating to their own comfort level.

Rooms are very old style and small. This is a 3.5 star hotel at most. Breakfast is disappointing, everything taste like it came out of a stale box, shame for a eurozone location known for great food taste and places. Even the coffee was awful, how do you mess that up especially in Italy!!!!. No kettle, no mini bar in the room. If you must stay here get your breakfast and food elsewhere. Nothing grand about this place other than it's located close to bus and train stations, however your going to have to lug luggage up and down the stairs across the big canal bridge especially if your arriving late evening. The boat rides and boat transit are also across the canal. Rooms have heavy old style keys and you only get one, Grand mistake for a pricey place, Carlton Hotel management reminder we are in the digital age now catch up!!! Appreciated the complimentary luggage storage as we visited town after check out.

Location on the grand canal across from the train station where the water ‘bus’ stops are, so easy to get around. First night in a single, just a twin bed but a new bathroom and the best shower I have had. Second night, different reservation, larger room with a good shower. Both were clean and comfortable. The staff was exceptional. Looked like a popular place for tour groups and they kept things moving. I didn’t have breakfast or use their restaurant. A bit if a walk to the main tourist sites, but that’s half the fun - very easy connection with the ‘bus’.

At check-in room wasn’t ready right away, room smelled dank/damp, obvious signs of water damage/repair to ceiling corner of room, fire alarm woke us up early in the morning had to evacuate in the rain, upon leaving encountered a busker/hustler “giving” ponchos but then following for money, and my daughter and I both had numerous bug bites after the one night when googled looked just like bed bug bites, but the view from the room was nice :)

I know it’s Venice and old & beautiful! It definitely was! Just wish we could have had a coffee maker in our room especially with early tours! Didn’t even have coffee available in lobby until their breakfast was ready! I need coffee when I wake up! The safe lock broke and we had to call front desk! The man broke it open ! Thank God because we put our passports in there! The refrigerator did not work at all! The rooftop bar was so much more expensive than any other eateries in Venice! It was so hot in room! Air conditioning didn’t work! We were told because it’s October and winter was here! Not for us! The positive it was close to all!

Carlton on the Grand Canal, has a very friendly team, specially Tudor on the Front desk, who was extremely patient and helpful with his recommendations and options for the area/transport. Rooms are clean, spacious and bright. Convenient location, across from the Main station and vaperetto stop. Roof top restaurant is amazing !! Express Bus available for Marco Polo International Airport, within 5 minutes walk. We were very happy.

Perfect hotel in front of the canal with a lot of transportation options. This property is close to the train ststion, bus station and uber. Also you can take a water taxi in front of the property. They have restaurant and a rooftop bar that can also serves food... The view from the rooftop is stunning facing the canal. They offer breakfast and it was great. Very close to restaurants and shop... The hotel has elevators and the rooms decor are perfect for Venice... Very Victorian style. Love it! Highly recommend

I would love to stay in this area, good food which centre of Grand canal? But The room of the hotel where I stayed it’s horrible when you have shower the water is smashing everywhere because it’s just curtains on by the shower bed is horrible and they don’t even change bed sheets I asked for twin bed well it is twin bed but one only headboard so you can’t split. I have a lot of mosquito bites.in the advert is look very inviting in the room Reality The room is horrible.
And every time I need to go to my room, I need to walk all the way at the back out and then in I I would never go back again with the hotel actually the room that they gave us is for disability people

The room is very very outdated and the room has a smell of dampness , and the bed is not comfy, hard for the back.. overall it's not worth for the money that I paid. Plus not good for seniors who are carrying luggage's as you need to climb the bridge of at least a hundred steps to get to the hotel.

First time in Venice. room is hot , dirty. I have to ask for another room which is they gave me another room in the first floor, but I feel like I’m in a dungeon dark and also hot room so so.. during breakfast time it’s kind like they are pushing us always in a hurry. its like we’re in the military army group go go go. Veronica in the breakfast area is unfriendly and go go go. It’s kinda like we’re in the military camp. We can’t eat comfortably. What the heck! she seems like she’s not happy of what she does and I’m not happy at all..

We only stayed one night but the hotel was great. They held our items until check in, were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel had a great ambiance. The room was nice and air conditioned. The bathroom and room were very clean and both had good amenities. The price is great for those staying short term in Venice who want a great m experience that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Also, while the location is far from many tourist sights, it’s very close to the train station making it extremely convenient for travel.
