A place to get away, but remember it is a converted facility and the quality of the fittings is not up to the best of modern standards. Since the facility is away from the village the staffing is more difficult with the consequence that the meal and bar times are more rigid and the pool facilities (chairs and service) can get overwhelmed when they are near capacity - not so relaxing when you have to fight for a deck chair at the pool. Check to see how busy they are before you book

Look no further. Just book it!!!!

We stayed in a deluxe room but although the other rooms are smaller, we all got to share the ambiance of the hotel. It is simply amazing no matter what the weather was doing. Breakfast was terrific. There were so many little alcoves to read, write, chat or plan your next adventure. This is our number one choice for Portugal.

An extremely charming surprise!

A very tastefully laid out Pousada, with exceptionally good incorporation of the centuries old structures into a rustic contemporary space of comfort and peace. We arrived just at nightfall, and the feature lighting throughout the complex was impressive. Warm and comfortable, this fairly remote stay was a most agreeable surprise.

Beautiful Retreat - High in the mountains

After a long drive through the wine country of the Douro Valley, the Pousada was a wonderful retreat. Our room was spacious and comfortable with lovely views over the valley below.
We had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant - Great! Go there!

We loved our stay at this beautiful Pousada and would highly recommend it to others. The atmosphere was spa-like and we felt relaxed the moment we stepped inside. The view from our room and pool area is breathtaking. We were also extremely pleased with our dinner in the dining room. The menu was interesting and creative and the dishes my husband and I ordered did not disappoint. Overall a fabulous experience!

What a room! What a view!

Our room was huge! So nicely appointed and extremely comfortable.
The breakfast buffet was excellent.
Parking right outside the door.
The views from the terraces were amazing. The Staff so kind and helpful.
Everything was a 10...a truly great experience.
The Dining Room looked lovely. I wish our wallet would have allowed us to dine at the Pousada but it was too rich for our blood, so we had to pass.
Note: we stayed in early December and enjoyed so much that it was off-season. It was relaxing, not very many people....for us that was a huge plus.

This hotel was amazing! It is a beautiful monastery or convent set in the mountains. The rooms are spacious and have an amazing view of the area. The décor captures the feel of an era long passed yet with all modern amenities. We had dinner at the restaurant and the service and quality of the meal was exceptional. As the town is small, we would recommend taking your meals at the hotel. The grounds are gorgeous and since we were driving through on our way to Madrid, we would have liked another day there so we could have hiked around the area and enjoyed the hotel more. We feel we left something undone and would definitely return.

This must have been a lovely hotel. It feels tired now: dusty flower arrangements, faded upholstery....

On the plus side the room was very large, as was the bed. The pillows were hard.

We found the price of the meal, drinks and wines very high for Portugal without any appreciable added value.

We stayed 2 nights in this Pousada. It is a couple of kilometers outside of Belmonte. The common areas are in a beautifully restored medieval monastery. The views from all the rooms and the common areas (over the Serra d'Estrela) are beautiful. The location makes it very quiet but one needs a car to go downtown Belmonte. The food in the restaurant was delicious with many local specialties.

This hotel was beyond my imagination! When we booked it, I was hopeful that it would live up to the photos on the Pestana website. It exceeded all of my expectations. The building is incredible. The ambiance of opening your terrace door and looking out over the valley from the mountaintop cannot be adequately described with words. I cannot imagine a more romantic setting. We had a superior historic room and loved it! The staff are attentive but unobtrusive. The restaurant was fabulous. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. This hotel is a great value. Comparing North American hotel prices - this would be a 5+ Star at 3 Star price. I would definitely stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Very nice hotel on the hill over looking the valley to give a great view. Need a car to explore the area but offers lots of hiking areas or go into town to view the historical part of Belmonte. Only stayed one night travelling through but if looking for quiet, relaxing place this is the place.

A Pousada you Won't Want to Miss in Portugal!

This hotel was over the top as far as ambience. It is situated high on a hill and you have views over the whole valley from your bedroom and patios. The ancient stone with which it was built was renovated in extremely good taste as were the furnishings. I must have taken about 50 photos of the inside of this hotel alone it was that beautiful and special. I wanted to stay here for more than the one night we had booked and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys the best of the past with the best of the present.

The only problem was with Expedia who did a mistake, instead of reserving an extra bed for a 15 yo they reserved a crib for a 1 yo. Luckily the hotel didn׳t charge any extra for the bed replacement.

Visiting Belmonte was not in our initial plans, but spending a day in this lovely village turned out to be a trip highlight, made even better by our stay at the Pousada. Everything was top notch---the staff was friendly and accommodating, the room was lovely and the food was delicious. An excellent find---only sorry that we could only spend one night at this wonderful location.

This hotel is located in a beautifully renovated old convent, very well done with a view over the valley. The cost of a double room is very reasonable, but the 'boutique-style' restaurant is very expensive in relation to the cost of the room. As the hotel is well away from the center of town, a guest cannot wander out to find alternative eating arrangements. For example, the cost of a soup is more than a main course in other hotels of a similar standard where we stayed in Portugal. Also the swimming pool area is not large enough to sit all the guests. .The bar by the pool was always closed, and there were only four sun shades with no other source of shade.

We enjoyed our stay at this pousada, mostly as an opportunity to experience a pousada visit. The hotel is far from luxurious, but that is to be expected. We also did not love the town of Belmonte, but the hotel is well-positioned for exploration in the area. The staff was great.

We stayed for two nights, but one night would be enough, as the town of Belmonte is quite small. There is plenty to do, severals museums, lots of Jewish history in town. The Pousada itself is beautiful, very nicely decorated and has great views. Restaurant was very nice as well.
