Worth it for the view

This is a beautiful spot and hotel for those exploring the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela. I gave it less of a rating for a couple of reasons. The food at dinner was not up to what I would have expected of a place like this, just ok. Breakfast was great however. I had a room with a turret and the space and view were amazing, but the washrooms needed a bit of work to make it a 4 or 5 star place.

Great staff . Valet parking which is helpful. Our room was extremely small, the towels were old and needed replacing , the bed comfy but pillows were not. I would say the hotel needs a refurb.

The layout of of the hotel is wonderful as every room has a great view down the hillside across the vast plain below. It has a nice old fashioned feel being built in the 1920s and has a touch of the Agatha Christie about it. However the whole hotel has been restored with modern facilities and decor (perhaps the interior decor is a little too modern and plain and doesn’t exploit the period design of the property).

Our room was wonderful, large bedroom with balcony, separate dressing room and large well appointed bathroom and for around 220 Euros for 2 nights, that was excellent value (Saturday and Sunday nights in mid August B&B).

For those who wanted to use the Spa and treatments I guess it was even more special.

The niggles were:
- A kettle and tea making facilities were provided in the room for the first night (perfect for Brits), but a charge of 5 Euros for another tea bag and synthetic milk sachet for each subsequent night was petty and absurd.

- The restaurant was nice and the food quite good (very good for breakfast) but we were only offered a buffet at 30 Euros per person. Expensive for the quality of food provided (nice but nothing special).

Property set is really breathtaking. However the exterior beauty of this pousada is an illusion. The interior is very flawed. First and foremost never book the second floor. The walls are paper thin. Therefore noise level is very high. We booked 4 nights and only slept 1 night. The reason is because after so so many complaints they had no choice but to change us rooms. Breakfast was good but not very creative. The exact same items every morning. Staff is very friendly and they really try. The problem is management. They do not seem to fully grasp the meaning of “Customer Service”. The staff has no authority. All decisions must be past to management no matter how insignificant the question is. The bathrooms need a renovation. Public areas are very clean and well kept. Try not to book twin beds because the mattresses are not balanced. You could actually end up on the floor and get hurt. Just remember when booking that there is nothing at all around the Pousada. If you need anything at all pick it up in the town of Covilha below before heading up or else it will cost you a lot of money by purchasing everything at the Pousada.
I must say the best thing this Pousada has is the “View”, just breathtaking.

People & facilities were nice, just felt that something was missing. Empty hotel, I guess, when other places we stayed at were pretty full. Other pousadas we've stayed in have much more old-building charm plus modern rooms. Here, charm, not so much. Feels like a new building slapped up around an old-style elevator.

This hotel is in the mountains 4,000 feet high. Spectacular views, 2 beautiful pools and lovely bar and dinning room. Once you are there, I dont think many will want to drive back down the narrow road to town for dinner. Breakfast is a nice buffet, but not extraordinary. Our dinners were ok but again not up to expectations for such a grand place. Staff was friendly and helpful but some difficulty with English.

Great views from this lovely hotel. Very helpful staff. Booked a Double/Twin room and I was sure i mentioned I wanted a double in notes on booking. Anyway on arriving at then room it was a twin. I asked at reception if I could change for a double. Was quickly shown a double but it was a smaller room so we decided to stay with the twin beds. By the time I went back to the room only minutes later the twin beds had been stripped and were being converted into a very large double - excellent service. Also had super meal in the hotel restaurant.

Lovely old-style hotel. Large outdoor pool with views across the valley 800 metres below. House Martins swooping back and forth in front of out balcony. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. BUT dinner was awful, the only really bad meal that we had in Portugal.

Fabulous hotel, great restaurant and friendly welcoming staff. Nothing is too much trouble!
Stunning Location....you must go to the top of the glacier some 2000m up where there is a small Commercial Centre.
Hotel has all the facilities you could want for an enjoyable and relaxing break. Only regret was that we stayed for just one night. Will visit again and stay for 2 or 3 nights.

Location is great on top of mountain, with nice views. If you want to go up to serra da estrela it is a great place to stay. Pool is much smaller than picture suggest and water in outside pool is freezing.
Place used to be a hospital to treat tubercolisis patients. Still feels like a hospital with long narrow hallways. Rooms and bathrooms were spacious.
The hospital history might feel a bit creepy for some people.

Arrived late and tired. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant as we were too tired to go out. The food was fantastic. We chose for an a la carte style menu of local dishes. The grounds are nice for a stroll and if you're up early enough the sunrise from the communal balconies is stunning.

Equipe péssima, me exigiram um cartão de crédito e me cobraram 498 EUROS sendo que nada consumi, e foi difícil de estornar e nem sei se du certo. Uma tal de Ana Martins que fez isso. No jantar tem 20 mesas e 1atendente, que não consegue e trabalha zangado. Tudo muito precário e ruim.

O hotel é bom mas tem melhorias a serem feitas. A localização é ótima e as instalações são muito bonitas. Todavia, precisa trocar os colchões que são muito moles e já estão tortos. Os funcionários são ótimos e muito prestativos porém falta gente e com isso todo o serviço fica prejudicado e demorado. Em um dos dias fui comer no bar às 17:30h e o funcionário disse que levaria 45min para preparar 1 tosta mista porque ele estava sozinho atendendo o bar e o serviço de quarto e era ele quem tinha que ir até a cozinha preparar os lanches. Um absurdo para um hotel de uma rede desse tamanho, num sábado à tarde com ocupação alta! Acabei tomando só 1 cappucino porque fiquei com dó do funcionário. Quando estava voltando para meu quarto vi o mesmo funcionário subindo e entregando o serviço de quarto. Por fim, a comida do restaurante pode melhorar. Os preços são muito altos para a qualidade oferecida. A melhor refeição é o café da manhã esse não tenho o que reclamar e estava ótimo.

Erg mooie locatie prachtig uitzicht mooi oud gebouw. Heerlijk binnenbad ook mooi buitenbad maar daar was het te fris voor. Leuke speelkamer met o.a. tafeltennis en tafelvoetbal. Het is fijn dat er een restaurant is maar dat mag wel enigszins verbeterd worden. De prjjs/ kwaliteit is niet in verhouding. Zeer vriendelijk man bij receptie, wij zouden er mits in de buurt zo weer verblijven.

É um bom hotel, mas pensando-se num Pestana, algumas coisas deixaram a desejar. Passamos uma noite, de terça para quarta-feira em pleno Carnaval. O hotel estava cheio, com muitas famílias com crianças porque o hotel estava oferecendo um pequeno baile. Acho que, por conta disso, o jantar foi em buffet e não a \"la carte\" e esse foi o maior problema da nossa estadia. A comida não estava boa, não estava apresentável e as várias sobremesas estavam ruins, sem gosto, feitas sem cuidado. O ponto alto do nosso jantar ficou por conta do garçom Tuma, um profissional muito simpático, sorridente e eficiente. Para compensar o péssimo jantar, o café da manhã foi maravilhoso, com muitas opções gostosas de bebidas, pães, frios e etc... Tudo o que um excelente café da manhã deve ter! Esse sim estava no nível de um Pestana! Outro problema que tivemos foi a falta de profissionais no bar após jantar. Só havia um funcionário para servir muitas mesas e pessoas e acabamos por ficar sem licor e café. Os quartos e banheiros são bons e espaçosos. Tudo estava muito limpo e arrumado. Os funcionários foram gentis e educados. O hotel é muito bonito, foi um sanatório no passado, se encontra numa região linda com paisagens bucólicas e muito próximo da torre da Serra da Estrela. A área do spa é muito boa, com uma piscina aquecida bem grande e com água bem quente. Não deixaria de recomendar este hotel, mas também não deixaria de fazer algumas ressalvas.

Checkin foi horrível. Porque o hotel não tinha a reserva e apesar do Hotéis.com enviar novamente, ficamos na recepção por mais de 1 hora e a recepcionista respondia só frases automáticas. Não fez nada para ajudar.
Essa 1a impressão foi horrível.
No restante as acomodações do hotel são excelentes e o café da manhã maravilhoso.

Veldig fint hotell høyt oppe over Covilhã. Fantastisk utsikt på 1200 moh. Innendørs lekerom, spillerom, basseng, treningsrom og spa + utendørs basseng og område for å slappe av. A la carte restaurant, bar og pool-bar. Supert for både store og små! God og innholdsrik frokost. Veldig god mat i pool-baren.

Excelente atendimento pelos funcionários, muito educados e profissionais. O quarto é pequeno (diferente do que aparece na foto promocional), o edifício e envolvente é lindíssimo o jantar é pequeno almoço excelente.
