Everything was very nice. The breakfast buffet was top shelf and definitely worth the money. The only issue was the TV was pretty much Chinese only AND the WiFi was VERY restrictive.

We choose this hotel for its proximity to the Ningbo railway station and Tianyi Ge museum (within 350 yards). Overall, we had great experience there. The property is clean and the staffs are super nice. Wanted to give a shoutout to our butlers, Aixia Zhou and Qixin Lu for your thoughtfulness and good service. We did wish the room temp could be adjusted better - it went to 84 degree at winter night when we set for 75.

Good hotel close to the Train Station in Ningbo and ideally located in order to get to the Expressway to visit the local area.

Short stay in the Wyndham but comfortable and friendly. Chelsea in the breakfast area was specially helpful getting me the perfect cup of English style tea. I little idea might be having a “handout” of how to get to the train station when walking would have been good.

The hotel is old and dated. The staff was great and very helpful so I had high hopes when I checked in. Unfortunately my room was disappointing. It’s very dark, old, smelled like smoke (even though it’s a non smoking room), and was extremely hot (it took forever to get the room to a temperature where it was tolerable).

What really got me was the gym. It’s in the basement next to the swimming pool. The entire downstairs has a very bad smell of fungus and mold. The gym equipment was poor but the usually the at hotel gyms in China. I had to leave after 10 minutes because the smell was so unbearable.

This hotel is very close to the bus station. It's very clean and the staff are very helpful.

They kept my luggage for free while I took a trip to Putuoshan. Ms. Natalie at the front desk was very professional and gracious. She offered me some Ningbo's traditional snacks to go when I checked out.

I will definitely stay here again.

The rooms are comfortable however the white furniture in the room was dirty and the nonsmoking floor smells of smoke (which happens to be quite common in China). Comfortable bed and bathroom was clean.

Best hotel in town in good price

Hotel service is very thoughtful. No matter is from manager level and cleaner at lobby. Hotel treats very guest with warmest welcome, small things such as tea and coffee at reception (tasty grounded coffee in Canadian standard) for your convenience. Care about your need, good manner!

Nice enough hotel, as you would expect for its rating but the staff are terrible. They don't know English at all, it took one whole hour to explain my dinner order and when I got it they still got it wrong.

Great hotel, wonderful staff & near the train stn

I had a great stay here, helped by the fact I was given a free upgrade to a suite. Everything was good. One minor issue is that the building has three lifts and navigating around might have been made easier. I struggled to find the gym one morning, because there are lifts behind reception, lifts which take you to the room floors and another lift system in the second building. All a bit confusing. But this is a great hotel and I thoroughly recommend it.

My favorite hotel in China

I have stayed at the Howard Johnson Plaza in Ningbo many times and it has become my favorite hotel in China. The service, restaurants and staff are all excellent and hotels.com helped achieve an excellent value. The staff is unfailing helpful and cheerful no matter the request. The buffet restaurant is excellent and I make good use of the Club Lounge for short casual meetings with friends and business associates. The park nearby is an excellent place to spend an hour or so when I have time either between meetings or weekends or at the end of the day.

Over serviced hotel until there is a problem

My room was 28degC and could not alter temperature had to sleep with all windows open. They changed my room but new room the same. Staff said that this is normal and the temperature control thermostat in the room does nothing as all rooms the same temperature.

In case you book and pay for a stay at this hotel through a 3rd party travel agency, be careful not to get double-charged by the hotel when they process your deposit, even though you tell the front desk staff not to!!!!!

Great hotel, even better now

This is an excellent hotel. It's even better now that the recent construction work on the front entry is completed; in/out traffic flow is smooth and all construction debris has been cleared away. The concierge and butler service is excellent.Too bad there isn't one of these in every city I travel to in China.

Not ideal for family vacation

More of a business hotel, does not offer much in terms of leisure. People smoking around the training room made it impossible for me to do my daily run as the air was toxic. Staff wants to help but most of them speak very basic English or none at all. For a few days during a business trip this place might be an okay choice. For a vacation... no way.

I travel 3 months out of the year experiencing many different hotels
Little older hotel, showing some signs of wear and tear in bathroom
But that is only negative comment I can say
Staff is one of the best I encounter - very warm and friendly
They must make customer satisfaction as their top priority and is very prevalent
My second stay - enjoyed it more - terrific bfast buffet
Upon check in you are greeted with spot of tea and hot towel
Upon arrival to your room, butler promptly rings the door introducing themselves and offer card with their numbers.

Great home away from home

When you end up in a city like Ningbo, it's usually to get some very specific business related goals accomplished. My business has me in Ningbo 3-4 times a year for the past 6 years, and I've found the Hojo to be the best in terms of price/customer service. It's a better value than the Shangri-La and better service than the Sheraton.

When you arrive, pretty bell-girls take your bag, and someone brings you a warm cup of tea as you check in. I cannot tell you how many times I've stumbled into the Hojo exhausted from factory inspections and really felt that I've arrived home.

Facilities is top notch - gym, huge pool, bar, 2 restaurants, everything you'd expect from a Chinese 5 star. The only tip I have is to have them give you a room in the new tower (the higher one). Tower B is older and not nearly as renovated as Tower A.

Besides that, go nuts, the Hojo in Ningbo is awesome for business travel.

Always my top choice

Howard Johnson Ningbo is outstanding. Stayed here 2 years ago and was very impressed, so it was my first hotel choice when returning to Ningbo. Facility is very well maintained and very clean. Staff is second to none with every staff member extending a pleasant greeting and any assistance as needed. I left an uncustomary tip for the housekeeper (as I stayed for several days), and found it untaken after returning to my room. As a single female traveler, safety is always a priority and is never a concern at the hotel or the surrounding area. Location is great, next to Moon Lake park area, shopping, restaurants, public transit, etc. Would recommend to any traveler - business, pleasure, family, etc. Worth every penny.

This hotel is outstanding. I spend 23 days in China (in various cities and 4 & 5 star hotels) and this was the best. Every staff member I encountered greeted me with a smile and hello, good evening, etc. Basic room with King bed was more than spacious, bright, quiet and very clean. Internet was free and connections were good I think all rooms have windows that open, which helps air things out whether in a smoking or non-smoking wing. Food at the hotel was fantastic. Location is walking distance to many city sites and personal safety was never a concern. Upon leaving, I personally thanked the on-staff manager for the superior service and amenities offered at this facility. I would recommend this for any business or vacation traveler - single or family.

I've stayed in a few places in Ningbo, but this was my first time visiting the Howard Johnson. I was truely impressed by it's size, location and service. The hotel is big and beautiful and very clean and well kept. The service is fantastic and the staff was very friendly. The rooms comfortable and the air conditioning was our saving grace. The rain forest shower was awesome and although I didn't use the nice soaking tub, it seems very inviting. The view from the room overlooked Ningbo's moon lake and the park surrounding it both of which were just a block or two away from the hotel. There was much to eat right around the hotel and it was a great experience staying there. I look forward to my next visit.
