This hotel has Old World charm in its furnishings but is updated where it matters. The bathroom has a heated towel rack and a rain showerhead; the mattress and pillows are just right in firmness/softness and the quality of bedlinens was excellent. It couldn’t be better located; it is within walking distance of all the major sites of Gubbio. There is a public elevator minutes away that takes you up/down a few levels if you are too tired or are unable to traverse the numerous hilly alleys and streets on foot. The hotel staff were attentive and helpful. It is situated in a major piazza and has been used in a number of TV and movie films!

Wonderful property and perfect central city location in the heart of Gubbio. Staff goes above and beyond. Ask about the parking accessibility beforehand which we did. It’s a mid-evil walled city so access can be difficult if you are not prepared. We parked at the base and took the elevator up. There’s still a steep hill of cobblestone to bring luggage up before the elevator but if you are in relatively good shape, it’s fairly easy. If not they will give you instructions to drive but you need to arrange this ahead of time.

Great place but get directions before you arrive.

The hotel is stunning in a superb location but driving to it proved very difficult because Google maps had no idea. Recommendation for hotel - send guests a map with the route on it. We had to park in town and walk up steep hills and steps to hotel then be given a map and walk back to car and drive! Also hotel has lifts but still some steps. Having said all that we thought it a wonderful experience.

This hotel with modern rooms is located in the middle of the old city, right on the main square of the city. It is clean and had a plentiful breakfast with many options, including gluten free.

The staff at this hotel were friendly and tried their hardest to help with everything they could.

However, it was hard to sleep due to the loud church bells ringing every 15 minutes all night long, which made our experience interesting, yet not comfortable.

Our biggest problem was parking. When we arrived the streets of the historic center were closed and we had to pay for parking a 10 minute walk up a steep hill to the hotel. Two hours later we were able to move our car to a free lot, still a short walk away. We were not reimbursed for the paid parking and were not Informed about any of these parking problems ahead of time, otherwise we would have planned our arrival accordingly.

Hotel was probably wonderful in the 1980s. It suffers from not any noticeable attention in years. Many stairs to climb even just to get to reception. The staff were the absolute stars of this property. (Peter in reception was outstanding.) They were all very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was just adequate, not exceptional. Some rooms are very noisy. I understand room changes are the norm. Parking is in a public lot at least a quarter mile away. I did not see a valet, nor was one offered. Gubbio needs a real five star hotel - this one has the best location, but it would require millions to transform it.

Needs a refresh and had incredibly uncomfortable (sooo hard) beds but with gorgeous linens. We loved Gubbio and this hotel provides a genuine taste of the region.

L’hotel è molto suggestivo data la particolare struttura, con diverse aree relax dentro e fuori: peccato facesse freddo quando siamo stati li altrimenti ci saremmo goduti i terrazzi e il panorama. Le camere molto spaziose ed eleganti, secondo il nostro modesto parere la zona bagno andrebbe rimodernata perché risulta un po’ sottotono con la sontuosità delle camere. Colazione ottima e ricca con angolo dolce e salato, particolarmente ottime le torte fresche, i muffins e il cappuccino! In particolare, quello che abbiamo molto apprezzato è stata l’accoglienza dello staff: dalla reception alla sala colazioni al portiere di notte alla signora al bar, sono stati sempre super gentili e hanno dimostrato un’attenzione alle nostre necessità veramente eccezionale, mai avuta prima. Consiglio vivamente di prenotare qui: non ve ne pentirete!

Gubbio is a must when visiting Italy

The hotel position in the historical centre Gubbio is breathtaking. Driving access to the historical centre is limited meaning camera surveyed. You can arrive by car to off load luggage. Check in will ask for your number plate data to inform local police. Drop the bags, drive 300 m to the nearest parking and enjoy the walk back. Otherwise other parking areas a bit further away - does not matter as a,lmwalks through Gubbio will conquer your heart and soul. A must

Great location right in the heart of Gubbio and close to all the sights and funicular as well as shopping and restaurants. Free parking was available - five minute walk. Nice room with a view, good breakfast and friendly staff. Nice little bar downstairs that kept busy all day as well as a central private garden and very nice sitting area The rooms are all upstairs so there are steps to navigate. There is accommodation for someone with a disability to get upstairs. A very pleasant experience and we'd stay here again!

Very centrally located opposite the Palazzo Dei Consoli. Short two night stay in January, Room was clean, plenty of storage space. Staff were very polite and helpful. Continental breakfast good. Access to this area is limited to non resident cars, although you can drop off an pickup luggage, cars there after must be parked outside the zone. If you're a Don Matteo fan the bar has several signed memorabilia displayed.

We were welcomed and treated very well thought our stay. Our room was on the 3rd floor in the newer part. We had our own (almost) personal garden outside. Room was quiet and cool. Relais Ducale was the perfect place to explore the older part of Gubbio.

Good location, but a hotel that needs updating and improvement. Our room was very basic, for example only one wooden chair for the two of us to share. Hallways were dark (lightbulbs unscrewed), furniture in courtyard and lounge was worn and sometimes even broken, the common areas were either dark or untidy or both. Our AC gave out and we were given a dirty fan with one setting. Definitely needs investment. Having said that, the staff were pleasant and there is a nice courtyard. I would call this a 3-star hotel.

Hard to find. Reception complicated, requiring 2 elevator climb, very long walk back to common area. Parking far away from hotel, unserveyed, and awkward to reach. WiFi did not work. Room inadequately heated. Great location, probably better in summer. Staff friendly, helpful, but all in all I cannot recommend this hotel. Gubbio, however, is very much worth the visit.

Couldn't be more central to Gubbio and the surroundings make it a very special stay. Would highly recommend. Very efficient welcome-help with luggage and parking the car couldn't be faulted.

Gubbio - beautiful medieval town on the hill

Gubbio is a wonderful town and the hotel was lovely. Guidance as to parking would be helpful because of traffic restrictions and difficulty of getting near to it. I would advise against this place for less physically able and less active people unless you forewarn the hotel you need assistance. There are two lifts to help with the hill.
There's not enough room in the 'what could be improved' section (!) to say that in 2 weeks travelling around Italy - which has such good coffee - the only bad coffee was at the Palais Ducale. So bizarre when everything else was good! And we drink espresso.

I would not rate this hotel 4 star

Any front facing rooms are very noisy from the church bells that chime 4 times an hour day and night .
We left after 2 days of a three night stay due to the uncontrollable group of teenagers on a sports weekend , which did not bode well.the reception staff were very helpful though, they tried to keep the group quiet ,alas without success .

We chose the Relais Ducale on recommendation from friends. It's in a wonderful location, with the ground-floor cafe opening right onto the main piazza of Gubbio. It has lots of character. The rooms are comfortable, the baths fully up-to-date in this historic property.

The Hotel is in need of better cleaness,the shower was clogged and the water flow was very low not only in the shower but also in the w.c. tank.

Hotel Relais Ducale helped make our stay in Italy unforgettable! I have stayed in great places all over the world and Relais Ducale is on top. The staff was unbelievably courteous and took care of our every need. They even made all of the connections so that we were able to go paragliding and on a cave tour which we were unable to do ourselves. The accommodations are superb with a beautiful courtyard garden and spectacular food. Gubbio is a magnificent town that proved to be a fantastic location to explore the many attractions in the region. I can't say enough good about Relais Ducale. Great people! Great place! Great value! Go see for yourself...

You cannot get more central than this

First, Gubbio itself - one of the great gems of Italy, but seemly little known in the U.S. I should insult the town to try to keep it for myself, but that would be dishonest. The main entrance for the hotel is through a coffee bar adjacent to the medieval central piazza (both the town and the bar are used as a setting for a long running Italian television show Don Matteo which is available on Netflix). A bit of labor is involved to get luggage to a reception area several flights up - we walked up a flight of stairs (though it had a disability escalator had we chosen to use it) and then were able to take an elevator the rest of the way. The reception staff is cordial and helpful. The Duomo is nearby in one direction (steeply uphill - everything in the medieval part of Gubbio seems to be either steeply uphill or steeply downhill) with the Palazzo dei Consoli across the piazza in the opposite direction. Bells mark the quarter hour day and night, but that is part of the charm of a medieval town. Sunday morning church bells were ringing in every direction. Our room overlooked a nice courtyard, and on an earlier stay in a room higher up in a different section of the hotel we had a truly magnificent view. Breakfast was adequate, but nothing out of the ordinary for Italian hotels. There are some spectacular caverns at Frasassi about 30 mi / 50 km to the east.

Stay in a Palace in Gubbio

This was a terrific experience. We found the bar/restaurant of the hotel facing the main plaza and were whisked in to the hotel proper. Sean lead us to the parking lot (outside of town) and drove us back. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was immense. All the hotel staff speak English fluently, and even the servers at breakfast understood our requests for coffee, etc. The main entrance to the hotel is off a pedestrian/moped alley that we didn't notice at first, so it was a bit confusing when we returned from dinner and found the bar/restaurant entrance closed. There were instructions in English on the door, which we followed up a set of stairs and then along an alley to the main entrance. All of the restaurants seem to be downhill from the hotel and it is a lot harder to walk up the hill after a large meal than to walk down in the first place. That said, the hotel offered us a discount at their sister restaurant and we had the best meal of our trip there (a truffle-based tasting menu).

Location, location, location!

My partner and I spent five nights in this lovely hotel this July. The location was fabulous, just off the quiet main square, where one breakfasts in the sunshine each morning. Our room was generous, nicely furnished and more importantly - a cool haven from the blistering summer heat. Gubbio is a little known gem, and made an excellent base from which to visit its larger, noisier, Umbrian neighbours.

A lovely hotel with extremely accomodating, friendly and informative staff. Finding the hotel was a little tricky in our car but the staff gave very helpful directions to nearby parking. A beautiful location, with stunning sun sets on the nights we stayed. Ask for a room away from the clock tower if you are a light sleeper (or keep windows shut with AC on) Be prepared to climb steps in Gubbio as with this hotel. All in all a very pleasant experience and we'd definately stay again.

Overall good value. Very unconventional to check in, you have to park outside their restaurant and go thru the restaurant and up stairs to reach the registration area. A great courtyard and roof garden, but we weren't able to use these in March as the weather wasn't suitable. Guest room was clean. I found the shower to be extremely small and water would start to fill up if you ran it for too long. Not a lot of choices in Gubbio, so I think this is your best bet. You have to park quite a far distance from hotel, but parking is free. Hotel is in a great location.

Gubbio is wonderful, and this hotel is central

Set at the elevated centre of the old town this hotel has a touch of the old world about it.
The cafe served up a fantastic espresso & lattes with a good italian breakfast and for the 60 or so Euro the room was great.
The church bells in Gubbio do ring well into the night - so ear-plugs are advised for light sleepers - Relais Ducale is opposite the main offending bell tower.
The service was a little brisk and we were left to our own devises a when a little extra help would have been comforting, but at the price it was very good.
Note that after dropping bags you car must be parked outside the old town which is a 10min walk back.
Gubbio offered us some of the best food - and we seek out good food, so ask around and you too will find it.

What a wonderful time we had in Gubbio staying at this hotel. Our room was lovely and the staff was great. They spent time with us giving us directions and special sites that we should include in our visits. We were in walking distance to great restaurants and of course, there were ceramics shops with beautiful items to purchase. The hotel had a lovely roof garden as well as a great court yard to sit and relax. We would recommend this hotel to friends.

Lovely oldy worldy hotel right in the town centre. Nice bar downstairs and outside tables for lunch. Had to park 10 minutes walk away, but once we got to the hotel they explained a route we could use to bring the car up to drop off our cases. However, we didn't find this out until after we'd parked as there was no telephone number for the hotel on the booking website. Lots of stairs up to room so not good for older people or people with back/leg problems etc.

Outstanding hotel with a great price

This was a unique and lovely experience with a great location. The downside is was difficult to find the hotel as we drove. We did not get clear directions from the hotel about its location and GPS didn't either.

Anyway, the hotel staff were absolutely wonderful. The location, once we found it, was superb, great view from the room. Happy hour was provided every evening. I just can't say enough about the palace/hotel, staff, location.

My heart belongs to Gubbio because of this experience.

fantastically helpful staff, beautiful location, amazing views. Charming service and good value. Design - traditional Italian ( ie 80's Victoriana) rooms rather dated but the luxury rooms very comfortable. Bathroom we had was v basic. Standard room looked v small. Four stars is pushing it a little but then it is one of the top 3 in the town.

Well maintained property in a beautiful and historic building. Terrific, friendly service. Wonderful garden hidden in the middle of the hotel complex. Very nice breakfast. My only caution is that both the town of Gubbio and this hotel are very vertical places and, oddly enough, the elevator starts in the middle of the building. Staff were helpful with our bags to get to the elevator, but if steps are a problem for you this may not be the right place for you to visit.

Vi var i starten af oktober, men der kunne ifølge hotellet ikke sættes varme på værelset. Lød som lidt af en dårlig undskyldning. Ved morgenmaden \"deltog\" to hunde, Den ene hund blev af ejeren båret rundt, mens ejeren tog mad fra buffeten. ULÆKKERT!

È un hotel di massimo 2 stelle, camere vecchie e colazione pessima. Inoltre, viene assegnata una camera diversa da quella prenotata e soprattutto le foto su expedia e sul loro sito sono fuorvianti ed una trappola. Credo che le recenzioni positive siano state lasciate da persone che non sono mai state in un 4 stelle. Evitate questo hotel, mancanza assoluta di organizzazione.

Dette hotel ligger godt placeret og inkluderer privat parkering til bilen. Hotellets personale yder en enestående service og er meget kundeorienteret. Intet at klage over - tværtimod.

Hotel situato in piazza dei signori, pieno centro di gubbio (le stanze non hanno la vista sulla piazza); molto tranquillo, pulito, stanza spziosa ben arredata. Se dovessimo ripassare da gubbio torneremo sicuramente

posizione perfetta per godere del paese

Abbiamo prenotato una camera per un breve soggiorno a Gubbio. Il posto è in posizione perfetta per girare nel borgo storico. Il palazzo è antico e tenuto molto bene. Le camere sono ben pulite.
Ottima la colazione sulla piazza Gande.

Hotel in pieno centro in una posizione fantastica, personale molto gentile,stanza non grandissima ma pulita. Parcheggio gratuito a 10 minuti a piedi.

Esperienza positiva L’hotel è in una posizione molto bella, nella piazza Grande di Gubbio. C’è una navetta gratuita che passa davanti all’hotel e ti porta lungo la città. Gubbio è un saliscendi e quindi di grande necessità. Personale gentile e disponibile, ti da tutte le informazioni utili.
