Everything about our stay was wonderful. It’s a gorgeous property with wonderful people. Just a slight hiccup when checking in. Only one person working, others were in the area, but no one could help. Another check in person would help as the trip up to the hotel is long and bumpy. Luis was not friendly or helpful.

They tried to charge me $24 for 6 slices of bread for my two babies ages 1 and 2. A sandwich on their own menu costs less. Outrageous and rude.
Staff unhelpful rude.
Would never recommend, especially bad for families with small children. Under 5 is not even allowed on tours.

A beautiful location on the slopes of Rincon de la Vieja, Borinquen Thermal Resort is a treat in the heart of the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. From the finely appointed rooms to the spacious, lush grounds, to the superb restaurants, this resort stay was one-of-a-kind. Staff was friendly, helpful, and good at their jobs. The pool (with swim up bar) and the natural thermal-fed hot pools were both relaxing and invigorating. The food and drinks were terrific any time of day and served by genial staff. There are thermal features on the property, a small, but quality hiking trail, and wildlife was abundant. With Spider and Howler Monkeys in the trees, iguanas and coatimunde roaming the grounds, and toucans and a wide variety of colorful birds overhead, we did not have to leave the property to enjoy nature's abundance. We also chose to venture with a knowledgeable guide to two photogenic waterfalls through a dense forest populated by many bird species. Borinquen Thermal Resort prides itself on sustainability, and staying there we really felt one with the environment.

The hotel room and property were very beautiful. We stayed in the private room with a hot tub (all the way at the top). The staff at the front desk weren’t super welcoming, but the staff everywhere else were awesome! Especially Danny, he made us feel welcome and we hardly had to wait anytime we needed picked up. The food for breakfast and dinner was fantastic! Our big complaint was not being able to drive to our room and the hot springs were very stinky (not the case in other hot springs that we have gone to in the area - so definitely figure out the source of the hot springs when booking). Overall this was a nice place that seemed very family friendly. Beware if you go during high time as the transportation is definitely going to be an issue then.

This was an amazing property. Beautiful location and great service. Plenty of activities! Even on a rainy days, you can enjoy the sauna and hot springs. The swimming pool was enjoyable and we saw monkeys in the trees while we were at the pool and restaurant. The property is beautiful. I enjoyed walking everywhere, but there was also a shuttle service available. I definitely plan on going back again!

Throught whatsapp i was able to communicate directly with stafff before we got there. We organized our transportation through whatsapp with detailed info. They answered all my little questions about Drone usage, excursions, and general inquiry. Even when we were at the resort already, this was the best way to reach them as well.

Faciltiies - 5/5
This place is magical. Because it is in the mountains and the foliage is so beautiful. We went during rainy season, which we expected a drizzle here and there, and this is what made the place lush is that tropical rain that comes and goes and helps cool the place down. Loved our bungalow it was so cozy and felt luxurious. The balcony was a generous size and i even filmed my yoga content here! What a beautiful backdrop for my videos! Lets not forget the natural thermal pools that heated up the natural saunas and the volcanic mud experience. This was just cherry on the cake!

Excursions, spa, and staff -10/10
The costa rican culture is seen in the rooms, in nature, and also in the warmth of the locals there. Gave this many stars ⭐️ as no words can describe the experience. We did the 4 senses tour, with a guide that made us feel so comfortable with the horses. An unforgettable experience going up the mountains seeing the volcano while horseback riding. Bring bug she ray this ia non negotiable! Now the spa is just a dream! The view!

Everything was perfect and all employees were courteous except the ladies at reception that work in the morning I believe one of the girls name is Sofia and her attitude is so bad and doesn’t even greet customers acts as if she eats scorpions on a daily basis passing the poison to customers. I have stayed at borinquen 3 times and next time I go if they are still there at check in I will definitely bring it to their attention about their bad attitudes.

This is a beautiful resort that is a bit far from town but very lovely and quiet. They have wonderful staff that are happy to help you. There are events to that you can do while on the property- I did a horseback ride to the \"top of the world\" with my kids. It was wonderful, and we saw 2 waterfalls as well. The resort has a nice trail where you can see a fumerole- steam and hot water coming from the ground- and bubbling mud too. There is ziplining and plenty of food choices at the restaurant. They all spoke English and were so kind to my family. I didn't try the spa but I'm sure it's top notch too.

The resort is peaceful and clean. Most staff was friendly. We only had one unpleasant experience. On Tuesday, the twelfth. I think his name was Eric. My husband stayed he spoke to him rudely. I loved Jose Maria and Genesis! They are genuinely kind and friendly. I would love to go back, however, the road leading to the resort is very rough! You almost need a 4 x 4. It’s a dirt road and lots of curves and narrow! I can not imagine it when it rains. I also noticed some small worms in the room. I didn’t mind it since the resort is out in nature. I think they were harmless. The pool is very beautiful and so is the dining area.

The resort was absolutely gorgeous, and we would stay there again. The staff were friendly. Our only complaint was that the food wasn’t very good, and leaving the resort to eat is not the easiest given its location up in the mountains. I got a steak on our first night there that was not cheap and it was so hard and fatty I couldn’t eat it. I let them know, and there was no offer made of another protein, or even consideration to take it off the bill. Go here for the experience and the relaxation, because it is beautiful in so many ways. My wife and I aren’t big eaters so the food not being great wasn’t a deal breaker for us.

Property and staff are top notch! However, if you go here, plan to stay here because the hotel is out of the way. There is a treacherous 10 km long dirt and gravel road full of pot holes which you have to travel slowly on or you will damage your car. You can have a shuttle pick you up and stay at the resort and do all the activities on the resort including the thermal pools etc.. instead. Book the activities in advance because they do book up by others from day pass users (people not staying on the resort). So, if you think the hotel has low occupancy the activities and thermal pools could still be full. Nice resort overall but they need to fix the road leading to it. It was the worst one we travelled on during the two weeks we drove over 800 kms. Further to this, don’t plan to stay here more than 3 days as it is out of the way from other points of interest.

Beautiful grounds and accommodations. You can walk to the pool or the thermal pools or ask for a ride. Food is inconsistent with breakfast good, lunch excellent and dinner a disappointment. You are at least an hour on a bumpy dirt road from anything so it is not like you can eat elsewhere. Service is great except for breakfast where they are understaffed. I wish they had a trail map with signs and enabled you to explore on your own. Instead they want you to sign up for guided excursion for $ which some might want but not all. We stayed for 2 nights which was perfect.

This is a great place for spa. It is out of the way so unless you rent a car - you are stuck at the resort. We were there in the off season, so we only had access to the one restaurant.

However, the staff was very friendly, the pool and spas were very clean and the staff was friendly.

One major downside is that the bungalows are going to be uphill. So going to and from the pools and spas from breakfasts and/or excursions will have you hiking a fairly steep road.

Point négatif : le transport vers les chambres se fait en véhicule à moteur, ce qui est tout à fait compréhensible étant donné l’éloignement des chambres par rapport à la réception, au restaurant et à la piscine. Cependant, d’un point de vue environnemental, ce n’est pas idéal. L’équipe devrait envisager de se doter d’une flotte de véhicules électriques.

the linens were in terrible condition, they felt like sandpaper. I have never encounter worst quality linens in any hotel and I have spent a lot of time in hotels.
they also had bed bugs, I have many bites.
to make matters worst, we were low on gasoline and asked I they could sell us some since it is a very remote area, and they sold us one gallon for 25 dollars, which I found abusive.

The resort was everything it described and the on site restaurant was DELICIOUS. But Google maps had told us there were roads available for getting to other places but there are not! Know that once you get to Bourinquen the only way to get anywhere else is to all the way back to the main highway.

While the resort itself is quite lovely, you need to understand that it is not close to anything, with a challenging road to get there, and only one option for dinner. It is ideal if you are looking for a quiet retreat. The property is stunning - small chalet/villas dotting the hillside, overlooking the gardens, the canopy and the mountains. The villas are great - fresh and clean - with a balcony for you to sit on with your morning coffee. The pool is also great & well maintained. There is a wet bar poolside and a snack bar over the steps next to the thermal pools, mud bath. However, visitors - especially families- need to understand that the wet bar and snack bar closed at 4pm (not sure if this is because it's off season) and we could only eat dinner by reserving at the one restaurant, even though it said there were three restaurants. Food was good but once you finish dinner there is nothing more to really do, as the pools close at 8pm. This is all lovely if you are looking for peace and quiet but 3 days was too much for us.

The grounds are perfect for bird and monkey watching! A huge WOW for the ziplining which my 15 absolutely loved!

One last thing - if you are going to drive in, be warned that 15 km of uphill, unpaved road isn't for the faint of heart. Ensure you are driving a 4X4. After taking a road trip to the beaches, we couldn't imagine doing any more day trips. Overall, peace & beauty, but two days with a family, is enough.

The property is lovely - made up of bungalows. Wel-manicured yet in the rainforest. The staff is great and super friendly. The real only drawback is that it is in the middle of nowhere so after a couple of days, you have exhausted the activities and the menu at the restaurant.
Also, it is very hilly but you can catch a ride in one of the resort's pick up trucks.
Highly recommend the horseback riding and ziplining tour. (Reasonably priced activity too)

This is a great hotel for anyone that loves nature, fauna and a relaxing environment. It is the perfect place to relax, disconnect and appreciate the beauty of nature. The hotel offers different tours, and counts with a delicious included breakfast! The access the property could seem hard if you are not familiarize with open routes, some small hills and curves, but it is quite easy to sort out if you drive carefully. The reward is at the end of the road, I promise it. Since the hotel is a bit far from local dining, you better plan to eat in any of the two restaurants that the resort offers (their food is good, with a nice variety of natural fruit flavors and local produce). We love the trails, the mud bath, the pool, the horse riding and the adventure during the tours. I recommend the sunset tour. Our tour guide was Oscar, he was excellent, very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. All the staff was helpful and friendly, the lady at the front desk was really nice.
Definitely we should be back!
