The grounds are beautiful! Upon arriving we were greeted with a yummy refreshing drink. Had enough space to hold our large group. Food at the complimentary breakfast buffet was very good! Pool was lovely, super close to the Carrillo beach and Samara beach. Saw beautiful red macaws at Playa Carrillo. Would definitely stay again!

The staff was friendly. The room was as described. However, there were ants in our room. They did address the first report, but then there were still multiple ants in the room. The lighting was poor in the room and bathroom. The restaurant service was friendly. However slow and they did not check on you during the meal. It was very expensive and overpriced, but food tasted good. The breakfast buffet at first was ok, but half way through the week they switched to a small menu to pick from and it did not taste good, not enough choices. Coffee way too strong. However the garden in-between the main building and outer building was nice and we could see lots of birds and flowers. Having the pool blocked by the trees of the garden was nice although they could have kept up with the cleaning a bit more frequent as there was a lot of foliage floating around and also at the bottom of the pool as well as bugs.

Me and my wife stayed there 9 night and we took advantage of the dining at the facility,food was absolutly wounderful and the portion were generous,the room,pool restaurant was clean to perfection .

The property is kids friendly. I think they could of had better choices for breakfast. We order off the menu and there were 6 items in it to choose from. The hotel has shuttle to the beach which is very convenient. We also used the complementary beach chairs and the bathroom at the beach.

Our first time at this resort and we are very happy that we choose.
The staff and manager (Josephine) was very friendly.
Many thanks to Eddie and Henry the servers and chef who cooked our \"catch of the day\" for three days on the row. Chelsea,the receptionist helped us booking another 2 days and we didn't have to move the another room. The pools were very clean and the breakfast was delicious. We can't wait to return to this piece of paradise and we highly recommend it.

I love boutique hotels and Leyenda is no exception. The grounds are quite beautiful. They greeted us with a welcome drink! We stayed for 3 nights total, family of 5. We had the superior 2 bedroom and the room was good but we did add an extra room after our first night for more space and another bathroom (my fault for thinking the 3 beds/1 bath would be sufficient with two teens).

We enjoyed the big pool! Wished it was a bit cooler to be a refresh from the heat, or that a part of the pool had some shade (never thought I’d say that!)

We ate 3 dinners here and each dinner was AMAZING! I can not recommend their dinners enough. Warning: the portions are HUGE and very shareable. Unfortunately, the complimentary breakfast buffet was not as good as their dinner. However, the made to order cappuccinos were lovely.

We took the shuttle to the beach one day and I highly recommend Playa Carillo as it was the best beach we visited in Costa Rica. Just stunning! The next day we drove our rental car to the beach and back.

Overall, I would return here again. For the price, the location and amenities are a great deal.

PS. The Asiatic restaurant is not open, which we were looking forward to. Luckily that main restaurant had a large variety and incredible food.

Nice hotel but overpriced for what is on offer especially if you are places in the older rooms above the reception area. Our room was very loud as it was above the restaurant and the screen door feel off. Staff were awesome and moved us to a different room for the second night. Great location and nice grounds but there are nicer options in the area around Playa Carrillo for a similar price.

We are enjoying our stay of 6 nights.Wonderful hotel and staff. Everyone is very accommodating and helpful with our many questions and desires. Breakfast is fantastic. The gardens are beautiful. It’s safe and quiet and clean.

Some but not all tours pick up here. If you have a car that’s not an issue.

Some of our time was spent lounging poolside after a morning event ( very hot during our visit). You can’t go wrong with a light lunch or drinks poolside. Great spot to chill before resuming your adventure in the late afternoon.

Note:If you drive here come through Nicoya. The other road is bad. Waze wants to take you on the other road.

This is my second time staying hotel is a bit out of town for those who want to be in Samara but also kind of perfect, because you’re away from the fray, and you have ready access to Carrillo Beach, which I prefer

The grounds are lovely with beautiful plants. The staff is attentive, breakfast is included , this a very nice step up from an American Hotel breakfast.

This is such a nice contrast from those hotels where there are not enough seats around the pool and everybody’s competing; lots of space, a very relaxing place to stay

Beautiful property-5 star PLUS. Quality and presentation of food was incredible. I had beef tenderloin and wife seared tuna in teriyaki sauce - both excellent at reasonable price ($46 total plus tip including beer). Good breakfast-4 options including fruit included with lodging.
Staff well dressed and polite. Roger at front desk exceptional. Playa Carrillo beautiful with small surf. Hotel supplies chairs on beach along with portable toilet & shower. We did not take free shuttle to beach but nice amenity.
Very quiet and relaxing setting for both couples and families. Also, 3 pools and bar service available.
Highly recommend as we should have stayed morr than 1 night.

Det var väldigt fint, en fantastisk trädgård och flera stora rena pooler. Rummet var rätt litet men väldigt fräscht! Maten på restaurangen var tyvärr inte jättegod men servicen var utmärkt. Personalen på restaurangen var också jättetrevlig och hjälpsam. Vi saknade kärl för sopsortering och en starkare hållbarhetsinriktning. Rekommenderar verkligen stället om du vill ha lugna dagar där du om du vill enbart kan hänga på hotellet!

We stumbled upon this place when had another place not work out and has been the best part of our trip so far what an amazing stay! The grounds are beautiful and the staff is amazing. Very welcoming and accommodating. Enjoyed the breakfast and the restaurant for additional meals. The shuttle and beach accommodation are amazing. Beach chairs, mobile bathroom and shower come with your stay if you go to the beach which I highly recommend. Can’t wait to come back.

One of the most beautiful little hotels I have ever stayed in. Clean, comfortable quiet. A little piece of paradise, here in Playa Carrillo, Costa Rica. Grounds were full of tropical plants, flowers and trees. Room was spacious and flawless. Very nice swimming pool. Friendly owners and staff...the food superb!

The grounds are so beautifully maintained and the rooms were very clean. The staff were very friendly and for the most part accommodating except with the included breakfast. I asked for bacon and offered to pay extra so on the one day it was ok but not the last day. Maybe waiter was not understanding what I wanted???

Arrived in room to find a puddle from leaking fridge which was attended to and sorted immediately.
This was a two bedded room and one of the mattresses was in poor condition and we were surprised this hadn’t been noticed before. The desk staff arranged to change the mattress with another room within a couple of hours. The room and bathroom needed a refurb to be honest. The restaurant was enjoyable for the evening meal but breakfast wasn’t as good as in the other hotels we stayed in in Costa Rica

Breakfast was fantastic, service was prompt and genuinely friendly. Every part of the hotel property was in good condition, the grounds are beautiful and our suite was spacious with a mini kitchen. The pool is open 24 hrs so its nice to come in from a late evening and relax in the tropical setting. Aside from a large pool there is a sun bathing depth pool and a childrens pool as well as ping pong and a fuse ball tables and playground and hammocks for guests to use. The location is about a 7 minute drive from Samara which is perfect to get out of the hustle and bustle of that busy community. We are already planning on when we can get return.

Glorious Hotel -- all the comforts

Impeccable service. Beautiful grounds with multiple pools, tables, chairs, niches to sit. Birds everywhere. There were no crocodiles in our room.
The hotel service to the Carillo Beach is impressive: shuttle bus, beach chairs, even hotel port-a-potty on the beach. It all works smoothly. And the Beach is wonderful. Swim, snorkel, body surf. Three minutes drive to restaurants. Some will deliver to the beach.

Comfortable hotel with excelent service, very good restaurant, breakfast more than appropriate, staff goes beyond their way to make you comfortable and feel at home. Is a small to medium size hotel, like 1-1.5 mile from Carrillo beach but there is transportation to and from the beach all day, with lounge chairs and hotel bathroom at the beach. Clean room and facilities, pool is good size and comfortable too. Overall is an excellent place.

The staff here are excellent and made us feel welcome, even providing us with a cool beverage at check in! Sitting out by the pool you can order drinks. There are areas in and out of the sun.
The grounds are lush and beautiful. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Having a restaurant onsite was very helpful to us. The nearby beaches are really beautiful and the staff will arrange to set up beach chairs and everything you need should you decide to leave the hotel grounds and spend some time at Playa Carrillo. For us, this hotel exceeded our expectations.

Unacceptable room size-want to pay to upgrade?!

Arrived at hotel in the evening, was taken to our room. The hotel appeared virtually empty, only one or two other vehicles in the parking lot and no other people to be seen. Was escorted to our room which we were told was small. One double bed fit the room, up against one wall on the side and head of the bed. Not enough room to walk at the foot of the bed. Very little margin on the remaining side of the bed. We were told that we could upgrade, for $30/night. I wasn't going to pay more $ than we already had, expecting a very nice typical hotel room. The ratings were all good for this hotel, so we were under the impression that we were getting a nicer than average hotel/room. Wrong. My husband and I refused to upgrade, and they didn't once offer to change our room, even thought the hotel was empty. Too bad, because the restaurant staff were exceptional, and the hotel gardens and grounds are beautiful.

Romantic getaway near a beautiful beach

The hotel and it's grounds are beautiful! It's far enough from Playa Carrillo to be away from the commercial stuff, but a five minute drive to the beach. The people are very friendly and there is a nice open-air restaurant at the hotel overlooking the gardens where they serve the included breakfast and it's open for lunch and dinner. There's also a very good Argentinian steak house a couple minutes drive from there. The hotel has a shuttle service to take you to the beach and provides lounge chairs there. Playa Carrillo has lots of shady parking and no commercialism; just miles of beautiful beach.
Hotel Leyenda is a perfect spot for a romantic getaway. Also in the hills, so a little cooler than around Samara - a nice thing for the middle of March when we were there.

One of the best places in playa Carrillo to stay

I liked the place, felt welcome, the food from the restaurant was really good, the place has a nice pool. The only thing that I didn't like was that the room that I stayed was too small but other than that the place was very good, they even have a shuttle service that takes you to the beach so you don't have to drive

Gorgeous!

Loved it so much stayed an extra couple of nights. near to Carillo beach which is one of the most beautiful,unspoilt in the world. The hotel provide the only beds on the beach which you book with reception and when you get to the beach they are there waiting for you along with a portable cabin with toilet and shower! Luxury. Car is necessary though.
