Nice hotel, service not great

Check in was not great, but we eventually got our pre booked and pre paid rooms. Room was comfortable, large and well appointed. Bed was very comfortable. Restaurant was not great. Waiter brusque at best! Menu very limited and only the items listed on the black board available. No atmosphere in the restaurant, shame as very nicely presented and the food was ok
Would stay again, but not eat.

Quiet and comfortable

It's a quiet, comfortable hotel with a quirky ambience. They had a pair of pet rabbits in a fenced area alongside the reception desk -- a charming treat for children (and for my wife). The breakfast was fresh and had lots of choices. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Good, spacious rooms, easy to find.

Place appears a little tired from the outside but fine inside. Room was very spacious with a king size bed and plenty of room. Would have preferred a separate shower rather than a shower over a bath, but some would no doubt prefer the bath. Easy to find, on the main road but far enough away that there is no traffic noise.

Stopped here overnight on our way to italy. Very easy to reach to and from motorway. Decent enough motel type accommodation with good free parking. Nice patio area. Very small swimming pool. Friendly staff. Room had fridge and a kettle but did not provide tea or coffee. Have to drive into saint avoid town so nothing within walking distance.

This is a very convenient hotel for travellers; and offers a good standard of service, quiet and comfort. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with kettle, fridge and table. I like the separate bathroom and toilet too. The bar serves fine beer It offers easy parking and relief at the end of a long drive.
The staff are lovely and helpful. A couple of years ago, I commented that management didn’t seem to have an effective staffing plan, because although the staff were clearly doing their best, they were unable to meet customer demand in reception, bar and restaurant. I’m glad to report that although the staff are still busily multi-tasking, they are doing better. However, there are delays in reception and bar, which other hotels of a similar standard manage to avoid. Having said this, the young man staffing reception and bar during our visit was brilliant, warm and thoughtful to our needs. Thanks for a good stay overall.

Avoid this hotel, old and worn out hotel.

This hotel is by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The hotel is really worn out. The bathroom in my room had mould visible all over the ceiling and walls. The grout between the tiles was so mouldy and dirty they have painted over the grout with white paint. On my second day My key card was disabled. Reception told me the room had been given to somebody else!! Even though my bags were still in the room. After a painful 45 minutes they gave me a new key card to get into my room. Having stayed in numerous other Novotels this was a BIG disappointment. Avoid at all cost.

We have stayed here before, but the experience this time was let down by poorly organised check-in. However, the staff were pleasant enough and the hotel itself is good in a convenient location for a stop between Switzerland and Calais. The room and corridor decor are quite old but in good condition. We had a large room with a double bed and a sofa but the bed placement is very odd - if you sleep on one side of the bed you have the whole room to dance about it should you wish; but if you sleep on the side nearest the bathroom, the gap between the bed and the wall is about 8 inches, so you have to either shuffle down the bed or slide sideways down the gap. There is a good size area as you enter the room with hanging space, shelves, extra pillows and a large mirror. Also the shower and the separate toilet which is useful. There is a fridge in the room which is useful and there are tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was nice with good selection to choose from including some basic hot choices. There is a small bar area and a restaurant with inside and outside seating which we didn't use. There is a nice pool area though we did not use the pool.
The free car park is very big.

Good standards as expected from Novotel

A one night stopover as a family of four with two teenagers. We often use Novotel as their family rooms are very good with decent beds for the children and good sized rooms. This hotel was no exception. Clean, well equipped with well fuctioning bathroom. The service was polite and we used the restaurant in the evening. This was our only cause or complaint. We sat outside on the terrace and there was a problem with a large number of flying insects. The staff tried to aleviate the problem by spraying insect repellant which only served to agitate them more with many landing in our desserts and the odour was most unpleasant.My advice would be to check he terrace before eating or sit inside.
The World War 2 cemetery is a couple of minutes away and is a definite must see for any visitor to this hotel. Truly breathtakingly moving.

There was no internet within room 129. It worked at the door, but not in the room.

We moved to room 127, everything was fine then
the front desk person was great, very patient with us, She provided excellent service and was very attentive to our issues about the Internet.
This is the first time we stayed at Novatel. She made us feel welcome and appreciated.

Massively exceeded my expectations for a budget hotel on the motorway. Didn't know they had a restaurant and the food there was fantastic! Rooms were ok, but a bit small, bathroom modern, though may benefit from some renovation. In general, I will definitely stay there again if I am driving through France and need a stop over.

Nice place to break a journey

Stayed here overnight en route to the Alps. Really friendly reception staff, who made us feel really welcome, with free gifts for the children. We ate dinner there as we didn't fancy driving anywhere. Nice food, if slightly small portions.
Room was clean and fresh. We had a good night's sleep. No noise from other guests or traffic. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Perfect for a stopover

Stayed here in early January when driving back from Greece. It is a perfect location for a night's stopover and this was our 3rd stay. The staff are welcoming and polite and the rooms have everything you need for a short stay. The 4 of us enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar area before dinner. I can recommend the Grimbergen beer. The restaurant was excellent. We had the vegetable and fish soups followed by veal, steak, cod and the burger all accompanied by very tasty chips and some winter vegetables. We will be back again soon!

Convenient stopover close to motorway\n

We have stayed here on return from holiday for last 3 years because we like it. Disappointed to detect some reduction in quality standards this year. Some staff either too busy or a bit demotivated. Room on ground floor somewhat tired (first floor room better last year) in need of redecoration but is a good size and reasonably comfortable. Towels poor quality. However, the bar is good after a long journey (Affligem excellent) and enjoyed overhearing the live folk music!

Disappointing hotel very close to motorway

We stayed at this hotel last year any found it very good, but this year it was a very different story. Firstly room was not made up well. Pillows missing, tissues and water as well. Took 2 trips to reception to put matters right. It was 'Barbecue night'. I had the steak (€20) which was gristly but just about acceptable. My partner had Lamb which was charcoal on one side and raw on the other, and was sent back, ( did the 'chef' turn it over??). My son had the sausage blanc, excepting it wasn't. It was burnt through - really. That was sent back as well. My other son also had sausages which were OK. The cost of this was more than €90.
The next morning I complained, and to be fair to the Novotel the cost of the 'meal' was deleted from the bill, however I will not be staying again.

Travelling with 3 children and wanted a hotel to break up the journey back to the UK.
The hotel was perfect and the fact that there is an outdoor pool meant that the children could use up their pent up energy after a long car journey.

This particular Novotel, while not exactly a recent build, is up to date inside. For our party of two adults and two young kids, the extra pullout beds were ready to use on arrival. The room was absolutely clean and completely functional. Lobby area and restaurant were updated and clean, staff very friendly and professional. The restaurant offered a small yet diverse menu; quality of dinner and breakfast buffet were excellent. So was the service.

Nice hotel - pity about the location.

The highlight of the area is the American War Cemetery(largest in Europe) just down the road. The rest of the town could be renamed St Avoid not St Avold. No decent restaurants, a bit of a grim place, so this ordinary hotel was like an oasis in the desert.

Excellent first stop after leaving Calais.

After a long day, Brighton to Dover, Ferry to Calais, Calais to St Avold, this hotel provided an excellent place to eat and rest before the next leg of our journey. Room was very clean, beds were comfortable, staff spoke English and were friendly. Food in the restaurant was reasonable ( steak + chips etc ) and not too pricey. The hotel is 1 min from the motor way so is very convenient. Recommended

The reason we booked this hotel was for its location, close to American Cemetery we wanted to visit. We were very pleased to find on site oarking, just like in the USA! The hotel is modern with comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant served very good food at reasonable prices. It is a family friendly hotel so there were lots of children about. fine.This trip was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, so we appreciatedour quiet room in the back, on the second floor. No elevator, but we managed fine.We did not go into the city since time would not allow. There was a gas station very close by which was helpful.

Not much for the money

For the price i expected a room that was big enough for comfort .beds not bed setees to sleep on. The breakfast was more costly than any other hotel we have been in. The evening meal we had in the hotel was basic but still costly to my mind. Some of the staff were pleasant others were just doing there job..good pionts,..... convenient for traveling to italy. The play area for the. Children was a bonus.

We have stayed here a number of times over the last few years as the hotel is a convenient distance from Calais, is in a nice area, has plenty of parking and is very convenient to the autoroute. Meets the usual Novotel standards and we will return when on a similar journey towards Italy.

Good location, very small bedrooms for families

We had our 2 children in the room as well, very cramped, very small room. The rooms are far smaller than a Premier Inn in the UK that does not have a star rating, it does not deserve the 4* rating it has. The room decor is very tired. Good breakfast - we had it included in our price - but did not appreciate a dog (belonging to another guest) allowed to run lose in the dining room eating crumbs from under the tables and approaching guests and the staff not bothered. Price for breakfast if not included in a deal is excessive. We stayed here on our way back from a 4* hotel in Austria.

Terrific service, great location for travellers

We arrived in the middle of the night and could not have been treated better or made more welcome. First-class service by the woman on duty overnight followed by equally excellent and attentive staff the next day. Lovely atmosphere where the staff take pride in their work. Family room was small but spotless. Excellent location just off the motorway. Ideal for travellers. Nice breakfast. Will certainly stay again.

Great Location for a stop over

Just of the toll road this was a fantastic location for a stop over on route to our holiday destination. We traveled with our 11 month old son and took our own travel cot (not sure if the hotel has any but there was not one in our room). There is a games room downstairs with building blocks for younger children and an xbox for older ones. The restaurant has high chairs for babies however does not open for tea until 7pm (which is obviously late for a baby so young), luckily we had got emergency food in the car for our camping trip so were able to get this heated up in the bar. Overall the stay was great, catered for our needs and we had a great nights sleep.

For a faceless, chain hotel this was actually pretty good. Lovely receptionists, helpful staff and decent facilities for the kids...a little welcome pack, swimming pool, small playground and some toys. I never eat at hotel restaurants, so can't comment on the food. Would stay again for a stop-over though.

The hotel was perfect for us. We have four children and found the hotel very kid friendly. There was an XBox in the lobby, books and Kapla blocks for them to play with. The hotel is on a beautiful wooded lot. The hotel is (IMO) older but it is VERY well maintained. Staff was excellent! Friendly and personable. We ate in the restaurant and found it to be decent. Would go back and would recommend.

Lovely Hotel surrounded by woods

This hotel was set in a backdrop of fall colors, the air was fresh and the grounds well cared for. Inside the staff were friendly, spoke several different languages fluently including English. Free Internet, Minibar in room, room service, and a nice restaurant. Very close to the St. Avold War memorial, which is such a stunning sight! Well worth the stop over, small town nearby with many attractions.

We chose this hotel as it was a good distance from our start location in the UK (London).
The hotel is a typical Novotel. - Functional and clean. Staff were helpful.
The town of Saint Avold was pretty but lacking any range of restaurants for the faamily. Eventually we returned back to the hotel to eat.
The biggest surprise was the nearby Lorraine cemetary. This is a US military cemetary for those that fell in WW2. It is the largest in Europe. We had planned to visit a war cemetary (to educate our sons) on our route back to the UK. Lorraine was a chance not to miss.
We visited the following morning. We were moved to tears. The site hold 10.5k graves. Immaculately laid out and kept. An outstanding statement of respect and gratitude to those that lost their lives for us.
I highly recommend the hotel and a visit to the cemetary.

A fantastic hotel that was perfect for our mid-way break to Swizerland but would have been very happy to stay longer. Friendly helpful staff and all that you could want was here, including a pool to help us cool down after a long hot drive! Nice resturant with good food but order off the main menu to get bigger portions! Very easy to find.

This hotel was perfect for our family. We spent one night on our way through France. We were impressed with the cleanliness, hospitality and comfort. Having the free Internet in the lobby with printer helped keep us on track with printing directions to our next destination. It was my husband's birthday and they brought him a complimentary glass of champage. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in this region.

Very good value for money

The service was very attentive, the bed comfortable, the shower wonderful. Great for a one night stop on the drive back from Italy to the UK. Even though the hotel has it's own restaurant (which we didn't try) the staff were happy to recommend some local restaurants. The swimming pool was clean enough, but it would have been nice to have a net available to scoop off the insects from the surface.

J'ai été retenu lors de la restitution de mes clées car la receptionniste ne trouvait soit-disant la trace de mon réglement
ceci sans aucun retenue devant tous les clients dans le hall !!
Alors que sa collègue, lors de mon arrivée avait validé mon réglement
Aucune décence
Compte bien débité
perte d'une heure sur mon timing car j'ai été patient devant leur manque de professionnalisme
bien que la prestation hotelière soit très honnête je n'y retournerait pas

I had dirty sheets on the bed, but the mattress was quite nice.
The restaurant is overpriced for what you get.
