The hotel Staff is fantastic, breakfast is really good as well various choices.
The room is very disappointed, this hotel need serious maintenance and refurbishment, bed isn't comfortable at all, shower leaks, mould and cracking in the wall. Bed blankets need updated.

Nice hotel convenient to most points of interest.

The staff was very nice and very helpful. Simona, the young woman that prepares and served breakfast, was delightful. The desk staff really cared that you got exactly the answer to any question. The only criticism is that coffee and soaps were not refilled when needed. Definitely recommend.

Seen better days, but good value

In the summer I think this could be more comfy; in early spring our room was cold, dark, hard to heat (seemed like 50-foot ceilings!), with a perilous step up into the bathroom. Huge room with a third bed (#306), quiet enough, two small balconies. Frugal breakfast. Good location though far from train station and somewhat seedy. You get what you pay for! Nice staff.

Fair Location but No Parking Available

Very central location. There is no place to park a rental car at this hotel. There are stairs which are unavoidable for physically challenged. Mosquitoes haunted my room all night. There is a very high noise level at this hotel. Good breakfast and local restaurants that deliver nearby.

No water!

Half way during our stay there was no working water in the room. I had a friend staying with me for a few nights so I had booked a double room and the single person supplement was rather extortionate. Also, the air con dripped water. Overall, the only plus was that the wifi reception was really good.

Avoid this hotel

We did not have a great experience with this hotel. First off it is very old. The elevator takes roughly 10 minutes when you press the call button, the wifi didn't work, and the staff was not helpful at all. They actually led us astray quite a few times. I would recommend finding a different place to stay.

wonderful room

got upgraded to a suite. it was very nice very comfy. the staff are very friendly. the only thing is when i booked it breakfast was included but the staff said it wasnt when i checked in but at the end the breakfast wasnt charged after i contacted hotel.com. the suite was on 1st floor so it was a bit noisy but it wasnt too bad.

I guess the hotel was in an okay area, although I was only there for one night. The staff was really nice, but the room was really awful and nothing really made up for that. There were tiles loose on the floor of the room, and that is so easy to fix, but that was just left like that. The bathroom and room were clean, I think, but I couldn't really tell because of the poor upkeep. I would not stay here again, or recommend it to a friend.

Great Location!

The location was excellent for catching the ferry early in the morning (which we did!). Parking was a little tricky, but was managed with a little patience. The room was larger than most for the price. I would stay there again.

Very nice hotel with a great central location

The hotel is within very easy walking distance of the airport bus drop off at Plaza Politeama. The room we had was extremely spacious with a sitting area and everything we needed including a kettle, which is quite unusual for European hotels. It had a really nice en suite with a great shower. The reception staff were friendly and helpful
Breakfasts were typical continental style but again staff very friendly and helpful.
The hotel has free wifi but this wasn't accessible in our room, it wasn't much of a problem as there was a sitting area just outside it where we could receive it.
This is a great place to base yourself for a city break as pretty much everything to see is within walking distance.

Great Value for Money

The hotel was right in the heart of the historical city center with easy access to the sights, eateries and transportation. Previous reviewers have complained about the hardness of the bed and I can understand why. However I use futon beds at home and find most American hotels to have uncomfortably soft beds. So I liked the hard bed they offered. The price included a pretty decent breakfast as well. No complaints.

Would definitely stay here again!

We travelled in August, so very hot. Air-conditioning a must and it worked very well in our room and was not too noisy. Room well sound-proofed with blackout. Room was clean with en suite bathroom. Staff friendly and helpful - they were quick to change the light bulb in the bathroom and happy to look after our suitcase when we checked out (we had an evening flight back). Get a return ticket on arrival at airport kiosk by the bus stop which which get you into centre of Palermo. Just work out where you need to get off and ask the driver. Beware, for some buses you buy ticket on board, but for others you must buy in advance. Public transport very cheap compared to UK and buses/ trains were reliable. Many sites tend to close for lunch, 13.00 - 15.00, so plan accordingly. Buffet breakfast was good, though coffee was not self-service!

Great location!

I stayed for one week in late Jan 2013. They allow you to use the PC/internet for free...just ask. The hotel is close to the Teatro Garibaldi, shopping, tour buses, and airport bus pickup/drop off location, yet far enough away so it is not so noisy. Very clean, extra large bedrooms with sufficiently sized bathrooms. At night, if you like your room very dark, just shut all of the metal shutters and it will be pitch black! (Just the way I like it!) The desk clerks speak English and have a sign on the front desk every day to tell you what the weather will be like...very helpful in January. The breakfast is typical European...no hot food, but what is presented is very good and includes cereal, fruit, cheese and meat, along with a selection of yummy pastries. The only downside is that the lift is 5 steps up from each floor level and you need to click on the hallway lights to get to your room door. All in all, if you want a reasonably priced hotel with a great location, this is the one I'd recommend.

Nice little hotel, but ....

Location, location, location. Nice little hotel right in the middle of the nicest part of Palermo near many key sights and restaurants with a staff that tries sooo hard, not always effectively, but from their heart. The rooms, recently redone, suffer of lack of maintenance and investment. For example three rooms had showers with side jets. None worked. Still the shower was actually great with a wonderful top shower head. Also a LARGE superior room suffered from a lack of furniture (for eight days we lived out of suitcases). A daybed in our first room was broken and could not be refolded to a couch. Parking is available but not as convenient as one would like. Nevertheless this hotel is a good value because of the location, staff, and room size and recent update.

Stayed here twice at beginning and end of Sicily holiday. Arrived fairly late by air, easily found hotel only about 5 min walk from Politeama stop of airport bus. Large room, high ceiling. Hotel seems quite old though - lift is slow. Staff were friendly and helpful, providing map and suggestions for places to eat nearby. Breakfast is pretty typical Italian buffet style. The convenient location and value for money are main advantages of Hotel Tonic.

Great location but desperately in need of some TLC.

Room was small and dark and would benefit from a lick of paint. Bed was comfortable although it didn't look it. Bathroom was very basic and there was a lot of mould on the upper walls and ceiling. Everything else was perfectly clean.

With the exception of one man on reception, staff weren't overly friendly or helpful but always polite.

Breakfast was basic and disappointing given the selection available in nearby cafes.

A nice hotel, well located for seeing Palermo's sights. It was comfortable, staff were friendly and helpful; and it was excellent vaue for money. The only slight criticism was that the rooms are a little lacking in natural light. But this is a very minor point and on the whole I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Great except for the bed.

The location was great, we were able to walk everywhere. The staff was helpful, friendly and accomodating. They helped us rent a car, find food and directed us to all the sights. The room was nice, clean, had everything we needed, It was great except the bed was awful. The bed was a king matress on two twin frames with spring bases and the springs were sprung, it would have been better if they put plywood over the bases. Palermo was one of our favorite parts of our honeymoon.

We picked Hotel Tonic based on previous reviews and was not disappointed. Excellent coffee, the WiFi worked well as long as you're not in rooms far away from the lobby (we switched), and good service. The one female at the front desk was particularly helpful with recommendations and directions.

Hotel Tonic - Palermo

I quite enjoyed this hotel. We had a suite which was very large. The bed was excellent and the bathroom and amenities supplied were deluxe. Located right in the heart of Palermo, the hotel is an easy walk to pretty much everything, but that does make it a bit noisy. The staff were excellent and very helpful - they organized an early wake up call and had a cab waiting for our trip to the airport right on time. There was an issue with the in room hair dryer, but they bent over backwards to get a replacement.

Overall, a very charming hotel.

Not stroller friendly but great in every other way

We found the hotel to be everything we needed for our family of five, except that it wasn't stroller friendly. There were stairs to get to the elevator, and then stairs from the elevator to the floor our room was on. The room was spacious (Klimt Suite) enough for two baby beds. Breakfast was great. The workers were very helpful and spoke excellent English.

Good value for the money

I had a quiet room in this loud city. I felt safe. Close to major roads Via Roma and Via Maqueda and the Politeama and Teatro Massimo. Small room with high ceiling, air conditioning. Complementary wireless Internet and breakfast buffet which was good. I would recommend the hotel but will try another one next time just to get an idea.

Initially we had some difficulty in finding it as the directions to it were poor, but after a day's sightsseing Palermo, its location proved most satisfactory as it is very central to most of the sights etc. However my main complaint was the double room we got which was very cramped & dark, I could not open the wardrobe door fully as it was blocked by the bed end and there were only a few hangers in the wardrobe, The TV had a very poor signal, there werte no operating instructions and I could not find any English speakiing channel on it so I missed both the News and more importantly, the Ryder Cup, when I reported this at Reception, I got no satisfaction at all from the surley Duty Manager. The Continental Breakfast was pretty poor but I find that to be the case in most 3-star hotels. Apart from its central location it had little going for it.

Hotel Tonic is a great hotel for service (staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable) and location. It is an older hotel with hints of old elegance and if it were refurbished, would be top-rated. As it is, the rooms are large and comfortable (if a little worn) and the service is terrific. Definite value for the money. Breakfast is quite good, too.

Two nights Palermo stay was the way my wife and me like. Central location, quiet room, clean renovated hotel, high ceiling, plenty of space, firm mattresses. Price was extremely attractive. Desk service was polite. We did not mind to carry our own luggage to the room. Breakfast food is similar to what you would get in Sicily in most of hotels. TV is very small and has only one English language channel with CNN. Do not plan spend much time watching it. After all, TV is not what makes your Sicily vacation a success. November 1-2/2009

The hotel was well located for both the old and new towns, as well as bus stops for routes to/from the airport & Mondello (nearby beach resort). Our room was lovely - huge, with everything you need including air con, TV etc. We also had a nice little balcony. The staff in the hotel were always around and always ready to help us find our way around. A goo all round option.

We arrived at about 8:30am after a long train trip and were able to check into our room early after only a short 30min wait. Hotel staff were polite and spoke good english. Used internet on computer in lobby free of charge, although initially they said that they were going to charge us. Bathroom good size, room was a little squeezy but fine. No view from window.

Rommet ble rengjort hver dag, og var glimrende for mitt behov. Hotellet er midt i sentrum, med gåavstand til det meste. Flybussen stopper ikke så langt unna, men det er ca 20 minutter til sentralbanestasjonen, toget går til flyplassen hver halvtime og tar ca 50 min. Jeg spiste ikke frokost på hotellet men valgte heller en cafe og en cornetto på en bar like ved. Hotellet har trivelig personell som er der hele tiden.

La chambre était correcte. Cependant, les lits simples étaient vraiment très petit.
Première nuit réveillé à cause du voisin qui prenait sa douche à minuit, on entendait tout.

Stanza nell'angolo più remoto dellalbergo

La nostra camera doppia (209) era molto piccola, soffitto basso e finestra che dava su un cortile con rumore di macchine di condizionatori. L'armadio non si riusciva ad aprire perché urtava introdotto il letto e in generale l'impressione era di claustrofobia. Personale gentilissimo, però !

Ottima posizione ma....

Ho soggiornato per 4 notti nel mese di febbraio ...Conoscevo l'hotel per esserci stato qualche anno fa...se togliamo il personale sempre molto gentile, la posizione vicino ai luoghi d'interesse ed i prezzi praticati , l'ho trovato decisamente peggiorato. La stanza, sempre pulita, veniva riscaldata attraverso un climatizzatore rumoroso che non ha permesso un adeguato riposo nelle ore notturne oltre alla cassetta del wc malfunzionante. Infine la colazione non proprio come quella di qualche anno fa... per due mattine consecutive ho trovato croissant non proprio freschi e dopo un'attesa interminabile quelli proposti erano qualcosa di molto lontano da tutto quello che di buono si può mangiare in qualsiasi bar di Palermo.

conveniente e confortevole nel centro

L'albergo è situato nel cuore del centro storico,
in un palazzo dei primi del novevento. La mia camera era grande, con il tetto altissimo. Bagno piccolino ma pulito. Materasso confortevole. Nonostante la posizione silenzioso. Personale gentilissimo. Arredi un pò vecchiotti ma funzionali.

Friendly but worn.

We liked the hotel for the friendly staff, especially Angela at reception and Christina in the breakfast area. It is well located and clean, but the bathroom was run-down, with a cracked sink, cracked toilet stool, and worn shower floor. A shame, because the rest of the place is ok.

The hotel is located in a very convenient place. I selected the hotel because it is near Teatro Massimo of Palermo. The room I stayed was clean and the street was quiet. Further, receptionists were very sincere.

Hotel in zona centrale, possibilità di parcheggio gratuito, personale attento e gentilissimo. Camere molto pulite e spaziose, ottimo rapporto qualita/prezzo. Colazione soddisfacente, anche se non molto variegata.

Wi-Fi ne fonctionnant pas. Petit déjeuner indigent. Chambre disons une cellule au 1er etage donnant sur un bout de cour où sont entreposés des climatiseurs faisant un boucan infernal. Scandaleux

Bra hotell för priset. Tyvärr var receptionen inte bemannad hela tiden och vi fick checka ut med hjälp av städerskan som inte kunde ett ord engelska. Blev lite svårt. Vi hade även en del frågor löpande som vi inte kunde få svar på. Annars rent hotell och nära till både hamn, slott och beach. Skulle gärna rekommendera detta hotell. Frukusten lite klen men ok.

Uncomfortable beds, close to the shopping street, ok breakfast, not only a \"dessert table\", it was eggs, scramble eggs and ham/ salami. The wifi did not work in the hotel room.

Een iets verouderd hotel in een perfecte buurt. Dat het niet helemaal nieuw is geeft het hotel charme. Balie personeel is ongelooflijk aardig en goed op de hoogte. Ontbijt was lekker. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden.

Gute Lage, nettes Personal, aber etwas abgewohnt

Das Tonic ist ein nettes kleines Hotel in guter Lage. Das Personal war sehr freundlich & insbesondere das Frühstück hat uns gut gefallen (gerade für italienische Verhältnisse). Allerdings ist das Hotel etwas abgewohnt. Das Bett war eine Katastrophe, wir müssen eigentlich erstmal zur Massagetherapie...

Zentrale Lage zum Centrum

5 Personen, Segelcrew hat 1 Übernachtung im Hotel Tonic gebucht. Palermo ist überall laut, so auch die Lage des Hotels. Gutes reichhaltiges Frühstücks-buffet. Sehr nette, freundliche Angestellte an Rezeption und Frühstücksbereich.
