It was an OK stay. The staff was pleasant, the rooms are large, but window area cleanliness was not perfect when I arrived. It's a very nice hotel for a one to two-day tourism stay. I stayed for a week on a business trip. Breakfast did not have a lot of variety. Not sure I'll stay there again next time I am in town.

The people who work at reception rooms and breakfast are very good but this hotel in terms of menu need to change a lot of things. I don’t understand why if you order a plate of steak or fish it’s doesn’t come with any side. In terms of food and the management,this hotel is in a bad way

This was my second time staying at the hotel. We were to stay 3 nights, however our flight from S. Filipe was cancelled therefore we missed or first night, we requested a refund of the first night since flight cancellation was no fault of ours, however it wasn’t honored, was disappointed with that, however, the stay was nice, staff were friendly and eager to help out. Breakfast buffet was exceptional. Lunch was superb.

The staff were lovely and happy to help us, especially Eunice in the restaurant and all the front desk attendants. The restaurant was delicious as were the free breakfasts. My only complaint is that the front desk did not have a clue as to help with Covid 19 test needed to leave the island. They sent us to the wrong place originally and we had to take another cab to a different testing site. We were lucky some random person was able to help us with our cab driver to give him the correct location. We were told that our results would be emailed to us the next day. They were not. We found out from another guest that we needed to pick them up. The pick up location was supposed to have closed at 1:00 it was now 1:40. The 2 ladies at the front desk would not call the site to tell them we were coming. It worked out in the end but was a lot of unnecessary stress. All they need is clear instructions printed in a few different languages to hand out to guests.

Welcoming hosts of pandemic proportions

Overall was a good stay. However, the pictures of the massive swimming pool overlooking the ocean is not a reality. Its 4 times smaller and you don't see the ocean from it as it covered by vegetation. I also think that this hotel is overpriced. I would pay $60 per night but not a $100 +... (No soap in the room only dush gel that drys your skin)

Nice hotel near seafront. Brilliant view depending on which room you get. Nice room spoilt by 2 single beds instead of double. Why do hotels think couples want to sleep on 2 single beds? Also spoilt by door to balcony getting stuck on floor and key not working properly. No kettle to make your own beverages. Friendly helpful staff, some could be trained better. No communication between shifts. Salt water swimming pool leaves salt taste in mouth as expected. Buffet breakfast with cold and hot food with indifferent staff. Safe in room useful to keep your valuables worry free. Helps if you speak Portuguese or Creole.

We were getting off a boat and waiting for a flight around midnight. There were three of us and just needed a room to crash for a few hours. No elevator but staff carried luggage up the stairs to the room.

The hotel provided transport to and from the Airport. Check in and check out were painless. Rooms have been refurbished. I’d choose a room which overlooks the open air pool area. Breakfasts are very good and the quality of food served in them Restaurant is excellent. There are always taxis waiting outside to take you wherever you want to go. The Hotel’s hapoy to arrange for English speaking drivers to take you on longer excursions too. If you ask for tea/ coffee making stuff it will be provided. Although there’s building going on next door, I’d stay there again.

Very Comfortable hotel in Praia
We enjoyed a very restful break here in February. The hotel has all the amenities & comfort that we required. Our room was spacious and very clean with good views of the pool, patio & the sea. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We stayed on a half board basis. The buffet breakfast was good and varied. The evening meal choice was rather repetitive & limited. We ate out on one occasion at the wonderful portugese restaurant Chef Theresa, which is only minutes away from the hotel. We toured the island with a very friendly & informed taxi driver, who spoke very good English.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tropico Pestana & would recommend it. They even provided a birthday cake for a special birthday celebration without any prompting on our part!!

Although the hotel is overall fine & our stay went well, it lacks in service for a 4 star hotel.
For example, they advertise a free shuttle to the airport upon request. Although we had requested one in advance, our shuttle was nowhere to be found on our arrival. For our return trip to the airport, we had to go through 3 people before getting ''approval from management'' for it. Another example: they advertise room service. However, there is no room service menu in your room & absolutely no breakfast options once they get you the restaurant diner menu. We were a couple and only had 1 bathrobe. Every single day of our 3 day stay, we never had a pool towel available. Nobody offers you drinks at the pool and there are only 2 umbrellas for shade. Etc etc...
Basically, clean hotel, we liked our room and had a nice stay, staff was friendly... but definitely not a 4-star hotel service in my book.

We reserved a room with two queen beds, and were given a room with two iron single beds made up as a double. The poor bellman had to remake the beds into two very uncomfortable and squeaky singles.

Outstanding hotel in Praia, Cabo Verde
I am an American who has traveled extensively and I must commend the Pestana owners for hiring a talented and energetic new hotel director/GM who has already made a huge difference with this hotel from last year when I visited and stayed for two weeks.
In sum:
- The staff is now much more customer focused, attentive, and friendly;
- the food and drinks are much, much better;
- the rooms are in much better shape with greater attention to detail in both cleanliness, appearance, and comfort.
While other hotels nearby may have more rooms or appear to be more midern, I have visited and dine there, and I would rate this
hotel as by far the best in Praia due to its superb new GM, great staff, more comfortable rooms, consistently great food, and genuine fit with the country and wonderful people (the President of CV lives to visit the hotel for a coffee).
In sum:
- The staff is now much more customer focused, attentive, and friendly;
- the food and drinks are much, much better;

1. One of the really great restaurants I've ever tried is a 2 min walk from the hotel; Chef Theresa. Fab individually cooked (home cooking style) menu heavily influenced by Portugese cuisine (owners/chef are Portugese) and one of the best wine selections you'll find on planet earth! Prices above Cape Verde average but still realistic and tremendous value. Super décor, tables indoors in a/c or 'al fresco'.

Four Star Hotel!
First I must say that the hotel staff were excellent and very helpful But a four star hotel it is not. In the UK it may have rated three stars at most. The following is a list of deficiencies in the room.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities.
No iron or trouser press.
No easy chair(s)
Very little drawer space for anyone staying more than a few days, my wife and I ended up living mostly out of our suitcases!
Also we had no clean sheets for our entire two week stay!
The bathroom was quite small and the door could not be closed..
There were greasy finger prints on the wardrobe doors when we arrived and still there when we left, I am sure they are still there now!
A safe was provided for our valuables etc which was good but unfortunately it was not secured, anybody could have picked it up and walked off with it.
The door to our balcony could not be opened from the outside, maybe the lock had been changed. So instead of a short walk down our steps to the pool we had to walk the entire length of our wing to get there, about five minutes rather than thirty seconds.
There was very little useful information in the room in regard to useful info. eg things to do, information on the local area, day trips, restaurants and places of interest. There was helpful info in the foyer but nothing in the room.
There was no separate lounge area for guests, there was only the bar or foyer area.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities.
No iron or trouser press.
No easy chair(s)
Very little drawer space for anyone staying more than a few days, my wife and I ended up living mostly out of our suitcases!
Also we had no clean sheets for our entire two week stay!
The bathroom was quite small and the door could not be closed..
There were greasy finger prints on the wardrobe doors when we arrived and still there when we left, I am sure they are still there now!
A safe was provided for our valuables etc which was good but unfortunately it was not secured, anybody could have picked it up and walked off with it.
The door to our balcony could not be opened from the outside, maybe the lock had been changed. So instead of a short walk down our steps to the pool we had to walk the entire length of our wing to get there, about five minutes rather than thirty seconds.

The Tropico is clearly the class of the two top hotels, and very reasonably priced. The staff is very attentive, from the custom omelettes for breakfast, to the great bar staff, to the excellent front desk. Compared to the competition, the pool is better, the view is better, and the location is better. You can walk to a nice ocean beach if you want that.

I stayed twice in that place and was satisfied in both instances. The hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable. The only problem I had was the poor quality of the internet. Definitely something that needs to be improved.
