The hotel room and hallway had an awful muggy odor that made my lungs hurt. I would not recommend staying at this hotel as there are better options. The images are very misleading and it is overpriced. You are much better off staying at the Grand Mercure across the street.

Old, not clean, air-con noisy, bad smell

The 1st room we stayed is with bad smell, the air-con is noisy and the telephone is not working. We complained to front desk and they changed another room for us. But unfortunately the 2nd room is more worst than the 1st one : the room is very old, not clean, still with bad smell, the air-con is noisy and not cool enough.

We have the breakfast at the cafe on 61th floor, the table was not tidy up and the tableware were dirty.

We may not stay again next time.

Good location but Aircon was terrible

Aircon is terrible, tv needed fixing before use. Breakfast was mostly Chinese food. The room is big but bed was too soft. Outside corridor have a weird smell. Elevator smells like food. It’s my second time in this hotel. The first time was not like this. I hope they improve since location is really good and the rooms are huge.

Nice Hotel but not clean

This Hotel has a great location and view with it being centered in the middle of so many shops and restaurants. However, the room that I was given was not up to 4-5 star status. There were huge stains on the carpet, peeling wall paper on the walls as well as peeling upholstery on the headboard of the bed. Some of the decorative pillows also had large stains.

Cost-cutting hotel

The hotel was much better when it was under Sofitel group. Now it's abit rundown although the facilities are still in place. My room had carpet stains, and the bed's headboard leather is peeling. Sofitel used to give complimentary fruit baskets with every stay, under mels Weldon they no longer do so. Also, don't bother buying their buffet breakfast, the selection is quite sad. The hotel also recently cut out their English movie channels in a cost-saving bid. All these really makes a long staying customer seriously think of switching

The worst customer service at any hotel I have ever stayed at. Hotel is in fair condition with old and worn areas at every turn. The hotel also smelled like a giant air freshner that was much too strong. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

very modern luxury hotel but not to clean

the stay overall was just ok more for local people than a business traveller the best was the position although for a reasonable new modern luxury hotel the cleanliness was way below standard.Needs to get staff that now a little bit of english definately there is no english. food a wide variety but more Chinese and the quality not so good, comfort of the room was ok although the cleaning for such a nice hotel should have been much better

Nice newer hotel with lack of service.

The hotel itself is new and nice. The hotel staff is not knowledgeable. They don't even honor their respective website. I paid for the one bedroom suite and it states clearly that it comes with lounge acess. The staff told me they never heard about lounge. I show them on my phone, but unfortunately they don't read English. They told me the manager will get back to me the next day, then I was told he will be back in 3 days. Who has time to wait for 3 days when the question needs to be handle now. Nobody is there to help you with any service.

One of the better hotels in Humen

This hotel is still quite new and the amenities are geared towards Westerners. The area around the hotel is a little dodgy but the hotel itself is great.

Lobby is on the 10th floor. Staff is polite and check-in was quick. When I got there, there were no non-smoking room anymore and the person decided to upgrade my room which still met the non-smoking requirement.

The room was very nice and large. Even though it was an upgrade, there were little details that still set this hotel apart from the truly high end hotels. The mirror in the bathroom was cracked, the shower door did not close fully allowing water to creep onto the bathroom floor, needed a more thorough vacuum and the remote has little battery left.

The internet was a little spotty but this is always the case in China because of the filter the government puts on so speed suffers.

Otherwise the room was better than expected. The area around the hotel is ok during the day but a little dodgy at night. There is also a stinky river closeby but you cannot smell it until you are close to it (walking).

Nice hotel close to shopping

I love the location of this hotel. You can shop till you drop. It's our last stop in China, so we buy a lots of things, then off load in our hotel room and continue shopping. The prices are great! We take Ferry to Hong Kong which is about 5 min Taxi ride from the hotel. We can check in our luggage for our flight from Hong Kong to US before get on the ferry. Best of all, there is no line to wait!

Room too hot

The is the former Sofitel. The hotel is quite beautiful, but incongruous at 60 floors in this city.
My room smelt of disinfectant or some horrible air freshener.
I could not figure out the twin air conditioning controls and neither could 3-4 people sent up to help. The result was that my room was too hot and the air conditioner kept on going on and off all night long for no apparent reason. It did not cool the room. The room itself was quite large and very nice. Beautiful bathroom. The hotel was pretty empty it seemed. My business partner and I were the only ones at breakfast on the 60th floor at 7:00AM. I can't explain it, but the hotel gave me really bad vibes. Would not stay here again even though there are not many decent choices in Humen.

Good business hotel with all faculties

Hotel tailored perfectly for business users and has lots of facilities including restaurant on 61st floor
with best all round views of Dongguan. . For comfort the rooms have all the extras so no problem there.
Overall good hotel which I won't hesitate recommending tp others.

If you book thru expedia note that expedia are not easily flexible to change dates. I booked 10 noghts but upon arrival decided to stay the last night in Hong Kong at another hotel. It was torture getting the last day refunded by phoning Expedia although Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Expedia need to be more flexible for business travellers.

Slippery Slope

This is not the first time I have stayed here, in a year standards have severely declined. It is obvious the hotel is almost empty, its the biggest building in Humen, if there were 100 people in the hotel it was probably a lot. Their costs must be huge, evident in the face that aircon is turned off in common areas, lights etc. I think I saw 2-3 westerners in the hotel this time when it was predominantly western visitors last time. corridors are not vacuumed, it feels dusty and moldy as a result of the air conditioning being off, its 93 degrees with 90% humidity. The hot water in my room was barely warm!! I had to request they turn it up so I could at least shave. This hotel cannot be making money, i would not think they stay afloat very long based on what I saw, I wouldn't elect to stay here again, although there are few options close by.

Good Business Hotel

I've tried many hotels in the area and this is probably the best (as of now 2014) in terms of location and quality. It's right beside the Huang He shopping mall and the hotel is clean, with nice bedding, free in room wifi and lots of tv channels to go through. My only complaint would be that this property is fairly new, but workers here can't seem to take care of the property well enough. I can see cracked tiles in the bathroom, breaking appliances etc even though the hotel is so new.

I have spend a week in china and stayed in 3 five star hotels by far this one was the best one.
staff very courteous and helpfoul.
Room was supperb, I had all I needed for this bussines trip, room nice size, perfectly layed out to have bussines meetings inside your own room !!
only sugestion I have is to provide more internet ports because like in my case I traveled for bussines and have to work with more than 2 persons at the time using internet and we had to switch the wire between laptops every time we need conection (the good thing is that they provide free internet access).

Better learn Cantonese

For those of us that unfortunately do not speak Cantonese, selecting a leading hotel chain like Sofitel, should provide some piece of mind. However, the friendly staff's knowledge of English or French is very limited, thus creating a linguistic adventure for simple tasks such as getting ice cubes or room service.
Great hotel with kind staff nonetheless!

If this hotel is convenient for the locations you need to visit in China then try. If not avoid.

There is little of interest in the immediate vicinity.

The wireless Internet only works in the reception areas or bars.

The bar staff served out of date drinks. When questioned replaced, but later asked we pay for flat out of date drinks.

Looks like this hotel does not have sufficient visitors to keep tags like hat moving.

Disturbing attitude of a male hotel chambermaid

In my recent stay in Sofitel Humen, I had a disturbing experience, where a male chambermaid refused to clean up my room. The reason he gave was: it is the hotel's policy not to clean up the same room a second time within the same day! Is this a reasonable policy for a five star hotel...or any hotel at all?

I reported to the manager on duty, who was symphathtic with my encounter, and promised that this same male chambermaid will not be servicing my room any more.

To my horror, this very same male chambermaid appeared in front of the door of my room the next morning, when I was still sleeping. After the door bell rang once or twice, I woke up and opened the door and saw him there, the card key he held was already at the sensor of my door. If I wasn't fast enough, he would have entered in my room...while I am still in bed!

Did the duty manager follow through the request not to allow this male chambermaid to attend to my room? If so why was he still there? Was it deliberate? What was his intention? I have no answer to these but it was most disturbing.

My stay was ruined, and so was the good impression I had with the hotel all these while.

I was a loyal guest to this hotel until this incident takes place.

Nice hotel and worth money spent

Pro: clean, friendly staff, security, exotic night view from high floor, love the bathroom [you will appreciate if you stay there with your partner :-)]
Con: food is expensive (few times higher than restaurants surronding!) but this is 5 star hotel :P

I will stay this hotel again on my next visit to Humen, Dongguan.

1. The housing keeping service is lousy. 1st night they forgot to supply towels. 2nd night, they forgot again despite reminders to inform the manager to check and call me back. But he did not respond.
2. There is no Wi-Fi in the room. Quite inconvenience as I am using Ipad.
3. Shower at room 3403 defective.

This is a newly openedInternational 5 * hotel and by China standards its very well managed although there were some hiccups, like my friend's room was flooded as water from the bathtub did not drain properly and they have to be given another room. The 61st storey coffee house where we ordered our coffee the service was bad as it took 30 mins for the coffee to arrive and all of the coffee was already just warm not hot. At that moment the German manager passed by and we complained to him about the coffee. It was replaced immediately and was complimentary. Good recovery action. We will stay there again.

the Room smell!!!
it's a brand new hotel but the room smell like wet carpet. every thing is great about this place, it is really a wonderfull hotel but the room smell is something that bothers you a lot, if you can get past it you will enjoy great view, the best breakfast i had in china so far, very good price, and very friendly staff (they just need to learn a little english) but they greet you in french(funny). the hotel manager was at my check out asking about my stay. wow, they are trying really hard, i will certainly stay there again, but please, pleeeease get rid of this wet carpet smell in the room.

預訂了一間兩張大床外加一張單人床的房間，中午要check in說要到下午三點才有房，到了晚上八點回到酒店時，說沒房了所以幫我們升等到家庭房。家庭房房間很大，可是地毯有一大片是濕的，淋浴間還會漏水。服務態度可以的，但房間細節有待改善。

原先住的房間味道很大.一股好似廁所的味道,非常刺鼻.之後要求換房間.換了兩次以後才沒有味道.前臺態度不錯,沒有因換房間而態度不好.但是最不滿意的是酒店早餐稱超過80cm的小童就要收費,意味著如果有一個兩歲的小童早餐就要收取78元的早餐費.這是住那麽多次酒店沒遇過的.

前身為索菲特酒店時，管理比較完善，酒店易手後，一切都差了，尤其是六十一樓的自助歺，千萬不要嘗試。房間內的設施還可以，但不太整潔。
