We thought the hotel was lovely, but I had two issues with the door/lock system:
1. The room door is difficult to unlock. It was unclear how we were supposed to use the key in conjunction with the button and we had a lot of difficulties to unlock the door.
2. As there is no lock or bolt inside the room, our toddler was able to easily open the door and wander out (which he almost did a few times). We were concerned about him leaving the room without us waking, which fortunately did not occur, but I would not recommend this for small children.

Klagenfurt shuts down on Sunday. Hotel not great

on a 16 day trip w/ 8 hotels, this is my only bd review.

Avoid Klagenfurt on Sundays. Everything shut down. A few cafes open for lunch, nothing for dinner, not even any locals walking around.

We did our research and knew a lot was closed so we booked dinner at the hotel, they confirmed and even sent a reminder email the night before. We showed up for dinner and they told us the restaurant was closed. it clearly wasn't but when we asked they said they had a tour bus arrive and gave them the whole restaurant. We asked if they could fit a table for two and honor the reservation, they said no. The only other restaurant they said was serving dinner was a pizza place on the other side of town. We ended up walking in the rain to the gas station/store to get something to eat and it was filled with similar people looking for something to eat. the only sign of life we saw.
Hotel wasn't awful. Old and tired and kind of dark & depressing (especially empty until the bus) but it was clean. Staff was awful. Never had a hotel do something that rude, ignore our reservation and send us out into the rain.

Location is very central. A short bus ride to the Luke. A mix of friendly and very unfriendly staff at the front desk and restaurant.
Breakfast buffet was good. No coffee service at the table and it could take sometimes a long time for dirty dishes to be removed from the table.

I enjoyed staying in a historic building that has been thoroughly modernized. The staff was courteous and helpful. They found answers for all of my questions. Even though the buffet breakfast was not included. It was well worth the extra €21. The hotel was definitely conveniently situated.

Disappointing. Bathroom and shower was very small. Cleaning has to be improved (there was a long black hair on the bed). Mold in the shower. Uncomfortable parking.
Two good things: breakfast is varied and good and there is a coffee machine in the room.

Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Sad that there is no bedroom slippers. Overall, no complaint. Convenient location, easily accessible to market place, restaurants and places of interest by walk. About 40 mins walk to the lake/marina area.

I was traveling with two small kids. Overall, our stay was very good. The room was clean and large, and they had a toddler bed and crib set up prior to our arrival. It is close to Worthersee, Europapark, and Minimundos, and the Hofbrau Zum Lindwurm was a great beer garden. The only thing keeping this from being an excellent review is the parking. The listing led us to believe there would be self-parking on-site, but upon arrival, we found out that the parking is at the main square which is a few blocks from the hotel and we were charged 17 euros per 24 hours of parking by the hotel. This was logistacally difficult given that we were trying to carry suitcases and wrangle children.

Very nice hotel in a good location close to the Square an City Center. We had unknowingly booked a small room but they upgraded us to a larger room with a king size bed for a small fee. My only small complaint would be not having coffee making facilities in the room. Very helpful and friendly staff, nice restaurant/bar, spotlessly clean, and overall an excellent stay.

Good base for exploring the area

Hotel is in the town, and not near the Woertersee at all, which is the main attraction in Klagenfurt. Close to the main bus transfer station Pretty standard hotel for Europe. Near the Goethepark, which is where the festival I attended was held, The rest of the town is in walking distance, but most of the old architecture has been overtaken by the new. If I return next year, I'll be glad to stay at the Sandwirth. There are less expensive breakfast options nearby.

Mostly hotel was fine but BE AWARE: We thought that we had booked a hotel with an elevator. This was partially true. The floors have some rooms where the elevator drops you off at your room. Our room required walking up (and carrying our baggage) an additional flight of stairs.

Booked room with two beds for one night at the Hotel Sandwirth and arrived to find we were staying in an apartment with two bedrooms! This was full of character and from the inside it felt as if you were in a chalet. Service at the hotel was great and they were apologetic that they had needed to move us to the suite/apartment in their property around the corner. Only issue was the lighting in the suite could have been brighter and watch out for the door handles on the rooms as they're easy to catch your arm on (in keeping with the decor though).

Good location but a mixed bag

Location: The hotel is a short (10 minutes) walk from the town centre. Parking is near-by.
Check-in: The room we were given initially was only accessible via 2 flights of stairs - not a good idea when travelling with luggage. We were neither told at booking nor at check-in but discovered this when trying to go to the room Also, this room had not been renovated for a long time. It smelled of smoke, towel holders were broken and the overall feel was small. This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Eventually, we swapped the room and paid an additional charge.
Cleaning: During our 3 day stay the room was not cleaned. Although one day was because of illness and not being able to leave (we got aset of new towels though) next day's cleaning was not carried out. We were told because of a heavy work load.
Other: Our key-cards were not working twice. No explanation was provided other than that can happen occasionally. Pretty bad when you want to get into your room and then have to run down to reception to have your key-card reset.
Overall: Good location, book one of the newly renovated rooms with hard floors, service has room for improvement.

The room was spacious, even for 3 people, the facilities were clean, the bar was great, breakfast was fantastic but the greatest part about the hotel is the location. You're one block from the Lindwurm / central square and its easy to walk everywhere. It's also very easy to reach from the highway if you're arriving by car.

Family of four. Had a really nice stay at this well located hotel (2 minutes walk to a supermarket and 5 to the center with nice restaurant and shops) in this nice litlle town. They gave us an upgrade upon arrival and we got a 2 floor apartment well furnished. Would definetely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in this area of Austria.

Klagenfurt has an amazing historic city centre and the hotel is inside an equally impressive historic building. Breakfast is great. I stayed here before in March 2014 and noticed the noisy floor boards in the hallways as well as in the rooms. I thought this might have been sorted but sadly it hadn't. So everytime somebody walks past you can hear it. Not great if you want an early night.

The hotel was very quiet when we stayed for one night (it was a Sunday). We were only there to sleep as we were visiting friends in the area. The front desk staff were friendly. The room was nice, bathroom nice with decent towels and hairdryer. The air conditioning worked well (it was very hot outside!). WiFi worked well in the room. The area was central to the town. We did not make use of the restaurant.

Nightmare of 315

Staying for just a single night and being a Klagenfurt native, I had always thought the Sandwirth hotel to be a true name. And what's more, it had just been refurbished, right?

Wrong! Staying in 315, I found curtains hanging off, cobwebbed curtain rails stuffed with some sort of paper. I didn't even dare open the cupboard in fear of something worse. The room was noisy due to the seating area outside below and it was stuffy. The single bed was incredibly narrow with the sheets having been washed into something that just made me itch all over. At least the couple in a room nearby seemed to have a good time; either that or there was still some remodelling work going on somewhere. When I checked out in the morning and tried (tried!) to let reception know about my experience so that at the very least the next guest would be greeted by something better, there was no way to be heard over the din of a reception going on. Then again, the receptionist seemed to be in no mood for anything customer service related as they didn't even bother to return my greeting of 'good morning'. You'd think that with the manager standing behind her that would have been the least.

In summary, though the location of the hotel cannot be faulted, I'm completely baffled to see how it can possibly have a four star rating let alone be given the award of excellence in 2014 by Tripadvisor. This is not a hotel I would ever stay at again nor recommend anyone staying in.

Brilliantly located in the centre of Klagenfurt with the local shops, restaurants and cafés nearby. The room was a very good size, spotlessly clean and generally very pleasant for an overnight stay. Very good hotel in the capital of Carinthia

We chose to stay at the Hotel Sandwirth for a few days as we were visiting friends who live just south of the central area of Klagenfurt: the hotel's location and the room price were ideal for this purpose.
Although we booked only a standard room, we were allocated a very large room with ensuite facilities at the front of the hotel and found this to be extremely comfortable. In such a spacious room, we did not need to open the windows, but there can be some traffic noise in the morning if you were to choose to do so. My wife and I speak little German, but this was not a problem as the staff we encountered all seemed able to speak sufficient English for us.
Breakfast for hotel guests is available in a first-floor room. The choice is wide and, whilst it is not cheap, we ate there each day of our stay and feel it represents good value, though the room (and the \"overspill\" room) can get rather crowded at peak times. Evening meals are not always available in the hotel: during our stay there were no restaurant meals on Saturday and Sunday evenings, but this gives opportunities to explore the centre of Klagenfurt, which seemed peaceful and with a good choice of establishments within a short walk in which to sample local, or international, cuisine.

It's aiiiight

I was debating between this hotel and the arc moser. I decided to splurge and spend $50+ more a night so stay at sandwirth because i was on a romantic getaway. After seeing my friend's hotel at arc moser, which I went there. Our room was aiiiight. TV was uber small and wifi only worked in lobby. The internet in the room was via an ethernet cable and with iphones and ipads, it was useless. It's not a super nice hotel so don't spend the extra cash. Stay at arc moser, it's a better value.

Wir haben uns im Hotel Sandwirth insgesamt wohlgefühlt. Die Betten waren sehr bequem und wir haben gut geschlafen. Das Personal war freundlich und der Austausch angenehm. Das Essen können wir nicht beurteilen, da wir es nicht probiert haben.

Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen: Auf Ebookers wurde ein Wellnessbereich angepriesen, tatsächlich gibt es jedoch nur eine Sauna. Das hat unsere Erwartungen etwas gedämpft. Abgesehen davon ein gutes Hotel für einen Aufenthalt in Klagenfurt.

Es war ok, das Badezimmer, das interior würde eine Renovierung vertragen. Die Toilette hatte häßliche Flecken im Spülbereich. Die Halterung für das Klopapier viel bei der Erstberührung in drei Teile zu Boden.
Das Waschbecken hatte ebenso sehr ekelige Flecken.

Ein ordentliches Hotel in bester Lage. Der Empfang war rustikal, die Rezeption nicht besetzt. Das Zimmer war von der Größe in Ordnung und gut ausgestattet. Die Matratze war gut und wir konnten ruhig schlafen. Die Dusche ist etwas klein.
