We stayed for a total of 3 nights and it was great. The first two nights was booked by a company and the last one was booked by me. The place is clean, comfortable and delicious breakfast with plenty of choices. The staff is always friendly and quite helpful with directions and suggestions. We will stay here again if given the chance.

Lovely place, perfect.for early risers

The hotel is lovely, appears new and the staff are great. They do have secure off road parking at €12 per night but we didn't have a problem on the street.

The only meal is breakfast but there are plenty of places to eat and 10 minutes from the Metro.

The one criticism is that there are no carpets anywhere so sound deadening does not exist. You can hear foosteps, doors and trolley bags everywhere. So long as you don't mind being awake for 7am it is perfect.

Great hotel, everything needed for a solo traveller - staff were great and really helpful, great at giving directions, happy to chat to me in English as my Italian isn’t too good.
40 minute walk from the colosseum but if you’re happy to walk it’s nice to see Rome from a different perspective rather than strictly touristy everything.

Lovely hotel, super-friendly and efficient staff. The rooms were everything you needed with comfortable beds and excellent aircon. Breakfast was very good. Can't recommend enough! Incredibly helpful staff!

The staff were super helpful and really friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious and the air con was a life saver! The smart TV was also fab! The location was great with easy access to transport to take you into the centre. The breakfast was delicious and reasonably priced. Honestly, could not recommended B&B Hotels enough! I could not fault our stay.

The hotel gave a really nice first impression in the reception it smelt clean and looked modern.

When we go to the room we were very disappointed, it was a very standard room, no wardrobe, dirty shower, leaking roof tiles, not great beds, no tea.coffee, water supplied.
The hotel is right next to a train station so from 6am to midnight the room shuddered every 20 minutes while a train went past, some going on for a couple minutes at a time and using the horn. The room felt as if it has no privacy, you could hear every conversation of people who go down the hall way. The heating dial in the room didn't work properly and only pumped out cold air and of an evening it was chilly enough to want the heating on. Overall wouldn't recommend this hotel would definitely look to stay elsewhere.

We loved the outdoor seating area. Breakfast was fine. A little disappointed that our triple room had a sofa bed rather than two double beds. If we had known this we would have booked two double rooms. Both lifts were out of order for almost 24 hours. Understand that things break down but staff at reception very unapologetic and just shrugged and told us to use the stairs ( to 3rd floor). Luckily we were fairly fit. Overall did enjoy my stay.

Hotel used to be under holiday Inn group. Back then the service was excellent with no blemishes. The lady at the reception lacks basic manners of speaking with the guests and rude. In room, no tea making facilities and no safe to secure valuables. Breakfast below par, food choices extremely poor. Will never go to this hotel ever again

3 days in Rome from the UK

The staff at B&B Hotel Roma Tuscolana were very friendly throughout our stay. Their help with navigating the area and advice on how to get into the centre of Rome was very good. The map they give you was very useful once in Rome itself, clearly showing the bus route and metro route to get to the main visitor attractions. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection of cereals, cold meats & cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon & pastries. The room was clean and tidy and very spacious (we had a triple). There is a tv in the room but didn’t use it. My only recommendation would be to have coffee making facilities in the room, if you want coffee or tea you have to go downstairs. The bar is open 24 hours (can’t comment as didn’t use it). There is a restaurant on site for an evening meal if you don’t want to venture out, food was good. There is an outside area in the centre of the hotel with seating areas, would be perfect for enjoying a night time drink. We didn’t venture around the local area too much as spent our time at the main visitor attractions in Rome.
We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely use this hotel again if we return to Rome.

B&B Hotel Roma Tuscolana - Great Value Hotel !!

We visited this hotel as a couple joining up with friends who were already visiting Rome, use this hotel regularly and have often told us how much they enjoy staying there. We found the hotel to be very clean, comfortable and in a good condition. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice and set us up nicely for the day. We visited some decent restaurants, bars and a pasticceria in the local area. It is only 5 stops from the centre of Rome using the metro line which we used every day. The station is only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Trains are frequent and our longest wait was only 5 minutes - however during rush hour the trains can be very busy. Overall the hotel was excellent value for money and I would be happy to use it again.

Holiday inn express is always very thoughtful in most of my stay. This time round they provide an Android phone in the room which gave convenient to the guest. The place is very convenient and within 7-10mins walking distance to metro station. The breakfast provided is simple and nice. There is a couple of small stores and a grocery store if you want to get some mineral water.

They charged us a extra 265 euros. We were booked For 4 days. I we were not the only ones they did it too. By the 3rd day. I was meeting guests in the lobby to let them know what’s was happening. So they wouldn’t get ripped off. The staff was angry with me and my family. Was only trying to help travelers.

I chose this hotel because I was prepared to accept a less convenience location for a quiet night. Unfortunately, despite requesting a quiet room on the booking I was given room 123, which is very close to the station and railway lines. To be fair, it was immediately changed it to room 311, which is still close enough to hear the trains, train whistles and station announcements but far less so – as long as we kept the balcony door closed. However, the air-conditioning unit close by – perhaps on the roof - was very noisy. There are many good things about this hotel. It was good value for money, especially as a large continental breakfast was included. The room was very clean. While you do need to get transport into the city centre, the metro is not far away and only costs 3 euro return a day. It did mean that we could get off at stations other than Termini, so reducing the distance we had to walk to the attractions. We used the restaurant for dinner twice as we were too tired to go out. The food was OK but one night our waiter preferred to hide behind one of the pillars and watch the football match with AC Milan! We waited over 15 minutes to attract someone’s attention – eventually a waitress came over. Other than that, the staff, including the room maid, were very friendly. We would recommend the restaurant Osti Matti, which is about 200m down the road (see separate review) – better food and drink for the same price.

OK Hotel, a bit far

Hotel is located about 30 min' in Metro from ancient city. Metro station is about 8-10 min walk from the Hotel.
Room size is ok, in my room there was no Safe, no mini-bar/small fridge, no coffee machine, no pot for hot water (for self service tea/coffee).
Breakfast was ok, above standard i guess (eggs/cheese etc').
All in all, if you have very limited budget, the hotel is ok. If you can spend 10 Euro and up more, i would suggest getting closer to the city.

Nice hotel with a good selection available for breakfast. Close to the railway station to/ from the airport and other towns outside the centre. Only a short 5 - 10 minute walk to the nearest Metro station for easy access to the centre.

On arrival we found that no kettle was available in the room for making drinks but upon asking the staff located one and bought it to the room without issue.

Overall a nice hotel in a good location.

Bad first night in Rome

The area was awful. Rubbish spewing out of bins, burst pipes, graffiti on walls and dodgy looking people hanging around. The lobby carpets were filthy and so were the carpets In our room. I booked a double executive room but it didn't feel all that nicer. The bathroom was awful. The floor was almost concrete like. The shower extremely small and too close to the bidet. There was brown muck around the shower and I felt dirtier after having a shower there. When u book with holiday inn you take for granted that a certain level will be met and this time I was very disappointed. The toilet paper was also of very low quality. The only good thing was the breakfast. Also on check in the guy who checked me in wasnt very friendly. He simply said Check in or check out. No greeting at all but then again after 2 weeks in Europe I've realised people are just not friendly here.

I would describe the services from front desk as routine / regular as they certainly do not go outside what is expected of them to satisfy your need (although the dining room staff were very warm) considering its a budget hotel. I dont think i will stay there again as the remote location and residential neighborhood are a negative factor.

Absolutely awful! The double room was TINY. We tried to cancel the stay but the hotel refused to refund any money, so we ended paying for an alleged upgraded room. It had a mini fridge that didn't work. Despite our asking front desk 3x to swap it out, they said that small fridges don't get cold and that's how they worked. What?! Made no sense. No ice machines anywhere. Didn't clean the rooms. We got back at 4pm after a full day of tours and the room wasn't cleaned yet. WiFi very slow. No A/C. The manager said they don't turn it on until May. No fans or any sort of climate control. We literally had to open the patio door AND door to hallway to try to create a cross ventilation. We were here early April before the heat. God help anyone staying here when it's actually warm!
Overall experience was terrible. We felt incredibly unwelcome, service was very poor, fridges don't work, stifling and tiny rooms, and we suspect bedbugs. My BF got a TON of bug bites all over his arm when we stayed here.
We ended up leaving this hotel early bc we couldn't take it anymore. Seriously, stay anywhere else.
Only positive notes are decent breakfast and no road noise could be heard if you have an inner room (looking at patio).

An American Chain Hotel in Name only

The decorations in the room were from the early 1980s, hotel was far away from the beaten path.
No handicap accessibility. Breakfast was horrible, the shower stall could not accommodate a small
person comfortably, let alone an average American. The only thing this hotel has in common with the
Holiday Inn Express chain is the name, nothing else.

This is a classic holiday inn express close to the Tuscolana train station and the metro not far from rome center. The area is not the best, but the rooms are clean. Internet is only patchy and often very very slow. Breakfast is included, but I only found the ricotta to be really good. the rest is average. So in the end the hotel is a bit pricey I think for what it offers.

Initial experience of finding our way to this hotel was disappointing as we had not printed out the route maps by Metro. so we ended up taking a train and then walked quite a bit to locate a taxi stand. But once we were there we made it a point to make enquiries about the Metro and it was a breeze travelling from the hotel to most of the tourist spots we visited.

Comfortable and affortable stay in Rome

While small hotels or B&B near the Termini station charges more than Holiday Inn Express, the service and cleaniness of Holiday Inn wins a lot with room charges even lower. Most people worry about the location but in fact the hotel is 8-10 walk from metro station (red line, 25 minutes to Vantican, 12 minutes to Termini, 16 minutes to Spanish Steps, 1.5 Euro per ride) which make it a good base for travel! Buffet breakfast is good. Room with spacious balcony with coffee table and chair. All facility is brand new inside room. No kettle pot and refrigerator. We have a mid-night flight and there was no problem for us to check in around 2:30am as the reception is 24-hour. Taxi charged 60 Euros from FCO airport to the hotel, and takes about half an hour. When we left, we took the regional train (5 minutes walk from hotel) and only cost 8 Euros, which took us directly to the Airport Terminal easily.

Holiday Inn Express Rome

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for three nights at the end if July 2014. We arrived by train and got to the hotel by subway. The hotel was fairly easy to find and about a 15 minute walk with luggage from the subway station. The hotel is very new and smells amazing when you walk in. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We were offered an upgraded room for 15 euros a night which got us robes, slippers, balcony with a table and chairs, and slightly bigger room. This room also had a specialty coffee machine. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. A good basic breakfast was included with a decent amount of selection. There were variety and grocery stores with great prices close by. We bought a decent wine for 1 euro! There were not a lot of restaurants nearby but transit is easy to use in Rome so it was not a problem. A big plus for us was that there was a station a 5 minute walk around the corner with trains going to the airport for 8 euros per person.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Staff - polite and helpful. The hotel is located near Roma Tuscolana train station which has trains to/from Fumicino Airport a few times an hour and the cost of the trip is only 8 Euros. The hotel is also close to Metro station.It only takes about 10-15 minutes to reach downtown Rome by Metro. Breakfast was also very good. Great hotel!

Location is good...within 7 minutes walk to two main metros and a train station into Rome. The neighborhood felt safe even when we came back late in the evening.

The restaurant staff were very good...they remember a request for soya milk and were attentive.

The room was a little on the small side and did not have coffee/tea making facilities as advertised.

Overall, for the price the hotel was value for money

We had to help ourselves every time we came in at the wheel chair door. They should have had someone to help get the door open. Every time we went out, my husband had to leave me at the door and go in the front office to come to the wheel chair door to open it and hold it open and get me in at the same time. That was very inconvenient. Should have some kind of alarm or something to open the door. We ordered a cab thru the hotel and they gave ours to someone else and we were at the door long before it was supposed to arrive. We were going on to pick up another couple at another hotel and the cab that took someone else had the information for the other couple. This was confusing and we were afraid that our friends would get in with that cab and it was really confusing and we thought we were not going to make it on time to the airport because there were some delays in trying to get in touch with the other cab to get it staightened out. .

The block where the hotel is situated was a little bit scare lots of graffiti and people hanging around. The room was ample comparing to other rooms in Europe, bed was comfortable, the bathroom needs more deep cleaning as to there was mild dew around the bath top,
toilet water was silence dripping. Breakfast was excellent.
The from desk attendance Emiliani, was not nice at all, very short in answer my questions, looked like i was bothering him when a question was asked, never smile, i did not feel welcome at all by him.

Holiday Inn Express Rome San Giovanni

Hotel is next to main line station and if you have a room on that side of the hotel it can be very noisy. They couldn't turn on the air conditioning (never really understood why) so had to open windows and this made the noise unbearable in the room.
Otherwise hotel was fine. Staff very helpful.
Hotel is just outside city wall so taxi driver won't charge standard city rate of 48Euro, I questioned the 55E before starting, but the meter actually showed 48E, anyway. Check before you get in!

Great hotel

Upon arrival we had a problem with the air con in our room as it was not working, but the problem has been dealt with by friendly and helpful staff and we had been moved to the different room. The breakfast was good, great variety of products. The hotel is located around 7-10 min walk from the nearest metro station, but there is train station nearby connecting g with central Rome. Overall very satisfying stay.

A great hotel, in a good location - easy to get to main line station and metro or to walk into centre. Hotel, clean, comfortable, friendly helpful staff, good breakfast - no complaints whatsoever, would recommend this hotel without hesitation to anyone.

Renovation does not mean better service

Maid service terrific. Adriano at front desk excellent. One front desk employee said he was too busy to help us with lost luggage problem. Breakfast had watery powdered eggs and tables were dirty. Had to purchase drink to partake of evening buffett.

It's like Motel 6

We booked this hotel for 4 nights b/c of it's low price. The room was decently clean - the shower had some mildew and the steam had weathered the drywall. They do not have bedspreads on the beds - just sheets. The carpet could've used a good cleaning. Cheap laminate wood floors in the hallway carried every footfall and sound in the hallways. There was no way to unpack as there was no dresser or closet, so we had to live out of suitcases on the floor. They do not have an in-room safe, but you can take valuables to the front desk and leave them in a box there.There is no coin laundry in this hotel. The breakfast was decent; cold cereal, pastry, fruit, coffees, teas, scrambled eggs, meat, cheese - so that was the best thing I can say. In the afternoon, they put out little cookies and offered tea and coffee. I thought it was complimentary (as it normally is the States for guests at a hotel) until we were given a bill for E10,00 (about $13 USD). The neighborhood was not that great. It was a few blocks from the Metro (use that over the bus if you can!) and a few blocks from the bus stop. The front desk personnel were helpful and nice. If you are looking for a lesser expensive place to stay in Rome that is a fair price, then I would say this is about it. If you are looking for a nice place, then keep looking. And expect to pay alot more. Ciao!

Everyone was very nice and tried to be as helpful as they could be

A bit out of the way in a residential neighborhood, but fairly easy access to a city bus or a 10 minute walk to the sub-way train into the heart of Rome and we found the train system very easy to navigate and inexpensive transportation.
They had a nice Happy Hour snack table and the barman was very friendly and helpful.
The morning breakfast was complete and very tasty with a lot of options.
I would stay here again.

Very good value in a somewhat inconvenient location

This hotel was fairly nice. Modern, clean, comfortable, affordable. But it is in nowheresville. It wasn't even on the map of our travel guide.

Its location is in an urban area full of high rise apartments, poor quality restaurants, and auto body shops, and it is far away from anything a tourist would want to see. I would not be caught dead walking around that neighborhood after dark, very sketchy.

There is a train station nearby (Roma Tuscolana - about 300 meters away), which can get you to the airport or to the Termini station, but the train we took was about a half kilometer away from the main train platforms, so it is a bit of a hike. There are a couple of metro stations somewhat in the vicinity too (Ponte Lungo and Furio Camillo - both about about 600 meters away).

Free breakfast was nice and substantial. Internet was not free. Our floor had a few steps to take our luggage down/back up. I'm not sure about other floors, but may not be very accessible for those in wheelchairs.

We only stayed one night here at the end of our trip because we had an early flight and the train station was convenient to the airport. Given our specific circumstances, I was happy, but I could see many people being dissatisfied due to the location.

Ideal for Rome trip on a budget

Ideal for trip to Rome on a budget, close to bus stop, metro(Ponte Leungo) and train stop not only making it more accessible to Termini station but also to major attractions.
Good breakfast service and a small bar to relax in the evenings.
Staff, probably due to my lack of Italian knowledge were a bit distant.

Good hotel

This was a typical Holiday Inn Express hotel - everything was clean, bed was comfortable, breakfast was good (brioche, fruit, biscuits, scrambled egg, coffee). The hotel was also close to the train station, which you can take to Rome or the Fiumicino airport very easily. There is a pizza place and other good restaurants nearby if you don't want to eat at the hotel.

Value for money.

The room was good, the overall hotel had tatty edges (broken step, needing a coat of paint in places etc), the staff were ok but not overly helpful. Quite good links into the city via the metro (10 mins walk) but in hot weather that can be a stretch and people should be aware of that.

Rome, but away from the crowds

The Holiday Inn Express has a location that's well away from the big attractions of the city, but still it's convenient. A bus line runs from a block away to the Colloseum (and near to other places tourists visit). A metro stop is about 5 blocks away, and a train station (on the line that runs in from both the Fiumicino airport and the cruise port of Civitavecchia) is about 3 blocks away. Aside from some train sounds, it is a rather quiet place, and there are a couple of nice restaurants nearby (and, very importantly, there are gelaterias nearby). Breakfast is included, and it's better than many we've experienced. This was our second stay at this hotel, and we'd probably go back on our next visit.

GREAT EXIT HOTEL

We visit Rome for 2-3 months every year (and we've written a book, ROME THE SECOND TIME: 15 ITINERARIES THAT DON'T GO TO THE COLISEUM, that describes our experiences). We rent apartments while we're there, but when it comes time to leave, we stay at the Holiday Inn Express. It's fashionably modern, quite inexpensive, and located near a variety of good restaurants, in a \"real\" Rome neighborhood. Most important for us, it's within a 5-7 minute walk of the Tusculano train station, with excellent connections to Fiumicino aiport. Tickets to the airport are E8, a big savings over a taxi (about E60). The place is frieddly and there's a nice aperitivo--a drink and food for about E5.

Hotel was was good, overall. Bathroom needs to be renovated, evidence of dampness. Breakfast staff were great, good selection for breakfast. Reception staff and bar staff were excellent. Location, a bit of a walk to the metro, approx 10 minutes.

Our experience in Rome was really fantastic. The Holiday Inn Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the city. They were able to communicate with us in English and give us directions and information about tours with ease. The room was always very clean and comfortable. Everyone made us feel welcome and they could always answer all of our questions. Thanks for a great stay in Rome!!!

5 min walk from railway station

Although located slightly away from main tourist attractions, for those who want the full Roma experience an enjoyable walk (max 30mins) to original main cathedral and start of the site seeing. Ideally located for roma Tuscolana station, only 5 min walk away, which is on rail line direct to airport. Hotel overall and room very clean, friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of choice in buffet breakfast, bread, cereal, cakes, fruit, bacon & eggs. Would definitely stay there again.

Good value for money

This is the first time I have stayed in a holiday inn and did not really
Know what to expect after reading the mixed reviews
The staff were very friendly and helpful and breakfast was lovelly and plentiful
The rooms were average size and very comfortable
when we arrived there were no coffee facilties
or iron in the rooms but both were supplied when asked
It is a little out from the main attractions but easy to reach
Using the metro
The hotel also arranged a private car to return to the airport
For 55 euros for 6 of us cheaper and nicer than going by train
I could not fault the service at this hotel at all

A central hotel which is run efficiently

The staff were so professional and friendly. From the cleanliness of our room, to the reception staff, bar staff and waitress staff, nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay at the hotel most enjoyable. This hotel is run to very high standards. Excellent!!!

Misleading amenities

I chose this hotel because the amenities listed laundry facilities. They had no laundry facilites, and we were between cruises in desperate need of doing laundry. The laundry mentioned was a send out service, and we were there for just one night. It would help if the laundry facilities were labelled as send out service, not on site. The neighborhood, like much of Rome, was dirty and not attractive for travellers. There was a metro rail station about 400 meters from the hotel. The hotel and staff were fine but the list of amenities needs to be more specific.
