This appears to be the best choice among the several hotels near the Matsue train station. It’s across the street from the station and you can use an underground passageway to get to the hotel. The hotel has a large lobby, easy check in and well supplied rooms. It’s doubtful that the other hotels have such a good breakfast as the Matsue Excel. Good hotel for a good price. Easy walk to the station and restaurants. While there is parking on site, it fills up, but there is also parking for the hotel next door. Room was clean, spacious, and had good amenities. Staff was extremely pleasant and at least some (if not most or all) speak English in addition to Japanese.

We were very impressed with the hotel staff - at every level. Specifically, they were very careful regarding my wife's gluten allergy and paid very close attention to what I ate, to ensure all was safe. It was especially comforting to know they cared so much since we do not speak Japanese. However, we did have a laminated letter, provided by our newly-acquired Japanese daughter-in-law, which explained the allergy, etc. Every person was most hospitable and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We would certainly recommend the hotel to our friends.

I booked this hotel since I would be visiting Izumo and Matsue and it would be too much to see in one single day. This hotel is connected to the station through an underpass that facilitates crossing the avenue that separates the hotel from the station.
