The beach and surrounding areas are stunning. Lots of shady spots on beach and never a problem to find loungers. The pool is on the smaller size but adequate. Also loungers are comfortable.
Resort is somewhat run down and pathways are poorly lighted at night and uneven flagstones.

Major concern was we booked a garden bungalow assuming it would be ground floor level. It wasn’t! You had to climb two sets of high concrete stairs which were uneven and quite dangerous plus walk along flagstone pathways. This should be outlined when booking as many people with any kind of mobility issues would not be able to access their bungalow

Clean rooms with beautiful views. This place was perfect for what we were looking for- enjoying local cuisines, a place to relax, activities offered (but not absolutely necessary). After a week, staff recognizes you and makes you feel special. Shout out to the bar staff: Daria, Djara, Darryl, Gunnar- for smiling and laughing even during the busy times; our favorite dinner server, Bianca, who is so kind and friendly; Alex, who had such knowledge of the area on our rum tour, and greeted us every time after. It was just the thing we needed to escape and really focus on living and get back to the basics.

Room condition was satisfactory but not pleasant to be greeted by a cockroach. This was followed by several cockroaches the next day. The reception response was that there were no other rooms available and they would send housekeeping the next morning. When housekeeping did arrive around midday she didn’t know anything about it. We were left with a can of insect repellent. In fairness we didn’t see any more but I didn’t feel relaxed in the room!
Somewhere to hang towels would have been helpful.
We enjoyed the beautiful view from the bungalow.

Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The large room with sea view was very good and the view was breathtaking.
Breakfast was very good, lunch ok and evening snacks good.
The bar shuts at 2200, which is good.
There is a lovely beach/forest walk to the next beach. The bus stop is a short walk away with regular buses to Deshaies and other parts of the island.
The island is beautiful and easy to get around.

Nice resort. We were in between seasons, so there was little to do. Bar closed at 7, you eat dinner and basically go to bed. Fine if you’re old and tired, but not a place if you want to have drinks at night. We stayed in the cabanas. Super cute, right on the ocean. You fall asleep w the sound of waves. Staff were very nice. The comforters didn’t fit the bed, so they put two double bed comforters on top. Very odd. Thought it was a cultural thing, but I think they ordered the wrong size.

Excellent position in peaceful surroundings, right on the lovely beach with a large decked pool area. Good food in a very spacious dining area. We were in one of the huts in the garden which were just a short walk to the beach, beach bar, dining area and pool. Spacious, comfortable and very quiet. One slight negative: there are not enough parasols around the pool area.
There was a local protest group blocking road access to the hotel for the duration of the stay. Complaining of lack of jobs for locals (maybe because the hotel insists on English-speaking staff) and lack of local’s access to the beaches around the hotel.

Langley Fort Royal is set in a beautiful location with a idilic tropical beach. It’s recognisable as the location for many episodes of ‘death in paradise’ and fans will love it. The staff are pleasant and it is kept very clean. Whilst we had an enjoyable stay there, this did not feel like a luxury hotel.
The food whilst plentiful, was basic and expensive for what was provided. (Very simple buffets) There are no really comfortable sitting areas for the evening and our room in the large concrete hotel building ( number 321) had views ruined by a rusting yoga platform and metal fire escape. Room 322. 323 would have similar issues. We asked for the room to be changed for our 16 night stay but the hotel could not accommodate this. For me, this spoiled the experience.
If you do go here, the huts near the beach are a better choice.
Evening meals at 32 euros per person, felt expensive for what was provided but were better value than some of the restaurants in Deshaies which are very expensive.
I’m pleased we stayed here but wish we had stayed for a shorter period and then moved somewhere else. I’m not sure we would stay at this hotel again, although this part of Guadeloupe is beautiful and I would definitely want to stay in this area.

Langley resort has lovely views and a quiet private beach. The beach and walkways were kept clean. We could always get a chair at the beach or pool.

The breakfast buffet was adequate with an omelette bar, cereal, fruit, and toast/baguettes.

The room was large and bright with great views. The daily cleaning of the room however was poor as they came late in the day and just made the bed. Towels were not changed and floor was still dirty some days. We had a leak in the roof from the a/c. We reported it and it was not resolved.

The food and drinks at the beach bar were good and service was usually quick.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Langley.

From check in to check out the staff were professional, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful. Our bungalow was charming with an amazing view. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on our loungers every afternoon. The dining was exceptional. Wonderful breakfast assortment. Amazing evening dinner. We didn't have lunch there, but am sure it was delicious too. The dinner staff was outstanding. Lisa welcomed us every evening. She made us feel like family while being professional and covering all her duties at the same time. She went out of her way to fulfill a special request. The servers we also got to know were Dominique and Stella, both wonderful young women who did an outstanding job. I can't say enough good about this resort and the wonderful vacation we had here. If at all possible, we will definitely be back!

Good views but no kettle

The bedrooms have no kettle to make tea or coffee the wardrobe is too short to hang a dress and the post of the bed blocks the view of the TV.
By the pool there is only one parasol for 50 sunbeds hence no shade.
The restaurant does not offer a la carte dinner only a buffet. The beach bar does however offer pizza and sandwiches. The drinks menu at the beach bar shows large beers but you can’t purchase one because they only have small glasses. Two staff members at the beach bar were particularly helpful, Belonia and Tatina. When charging items to your room you have to sign a receipt that does not have the items listed or a price, very unusual.
The rooms in the main building are clean, well maintained and most have sea views. One side has balconies and the other has Juliet balconies. There is a nice sandy beach with very little shade but good for swimming, not so good for snorkelling.
If you want to see where Death in Paradise was filmed then this is a good place to stay and the hotel also runs tours on a Friday to the film locations.

The staff were fantastic. Especially Manon and Angelina at reception and the entire restaurant staff. The facilities and planned activities were fun and provided many options. The room was clean.

The biggest issue is that to get large amounts of luggage to or from your room a porter needs to come with a golf cart since the parking lot is about 300 m fron the reception desk. This can take some time and is critical to think about when checking out to catch a flight. Give yourself extra time. The resort should prioritize resources to check in and check out. Someone has to get out of the car to reach the intercom used to open the front gate. The intercom should be placed on the driver side and a number plate recognition system or rfid system used to avoid having to call the desk each time guests enter or leave the property.

Average hotel at a very nice area of the island.

Few comments:
1. At our arrival both elevator have been out of service. On request the staff supported us to bring our luggage to the 5th floor, but at check-out no support. By then elevators will be fixed is unknown as exciting once need to be replaced due to age.
2. Breakfast is quite poor, very limited variety, even the typical French food (Croissant & baguette) was crap. Here they could really improve.
3. During our stay they have had multiple big events at the hotel which took over beach side and pool…unfortunately staff didn’t inform us or any consideration of other customers at the hotel.
4. Staff in general was not very attentive…more reacting when asked but never thought in advance.

perfect base for exploration

this is a great budget friendly stay with a beautiful beach. Not a dive into the culture but has an affordable car rental place attached so you can be as involved with the island as you choose. Food is fine and staff is cheerful and helpful. very good at providing a pleasant simpe base for adventures.

The parking was very far from the room.
The room was behind the restaurant with a view of the restaurant back wall.. very depressing I would say. They came to change the window in our room without informing us in advance. We woke up with people in front of our door trying to dismantle the window and to change it . Nobody would speak french or english. Luckly my friend undertands russian to ask them what is going on ... otherwise the people at the restaurant was nice and polite and the food is good.

It is great place and we really enjoyed not only wonderful sea and beach, but also excellent tennis courts and availability of windsurfing and Hobie cats. Bungalow 16 was very very nice: clean and comfortable.
Food was excellent - great choices and variety.
The only small things that could be improved:
1. Have real good coffee machines - your expresso is really bad
2. There is some unpleasant sewer odors outside the bungalow 16. It should be fixed - it is not plesant to sit outside.
3. Cleaning beach will be useful - there not a lot of cigarette butts and leaves and they can be remove with a modest effort

Very nice, scenic beachfront resort with friendly multi-lingual staff and good included buffet breakfast. A buffet lunch and dinner are available for extra charge. Both beach and swimming pool are clean and popular with guests. Good for couples and families with kids. Minor annoyances are that front desk is understaffed, outside evening dining options are limited near the resort and lighting on walkways is dim.

In the morning a lovely Scottish girl server was very helpful and kind to us.in the restaurant area Appreciated her care and help.

To start we discovered that the tv in all rooms were disconnected and despite multiple requests and complaints they didn’t fix it. The first evening we went to discover the buffet and it was really bad. The beetroot salad was full of mold. After the busy weekend the bar and the entertainment slowly disappeared and we were left with none for 4 days out of 7. Many of the personnel were rude and did not care even to answer a question.

Loved the location. Beautiful views from everywhere. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was excellent - both the breakfast and dinner buffets. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The property was close to town, where there is lots to see. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to make clear how to access the gate to the parking lot. We were stopped for several minutes each time as we tried to call a number to activate the gate. That is a minor criticism easily fixed. The rest of our stay was wonderful, and we regretted we could not stay longer.

Fabulous location, could be a wonderful property. But poorly maintained: main building has only 2 elevators, one was out of order all week, the other one worked perhaps half the time. Food choices were limited and poor, after the second night we ate offsite except at breakfast. Rental cars are inexpensive and really needed Deshaies is a short drive. Staff was pleasant and helpful, though mostly not local- young Swedes. Parking is a hike. Could be 4 star with a bit of investment, but not managed or maintained well unfortunately.

Langley Resort Fort Royal is a beautiful property with direct access to sand beaches. Our room (large room- sea view) was spacious and had a stunning sea view but did not have a balcony as only the rooms facing west have one. The property restaurant offers a fairly good breakfast and dinner buffet (lunch as well but we never had lunch there) and the beach bar offers a more limited menu (pizzas and panini) but a vast choice of cocktails. The multilingual staff were friendly but tried to be helpful. On a less positive side, our room (and the 4 storey building itself) would have greatly benefited from a fresh coat of paint and some repairs. It would have been nice to be provided with a kettle with coffee and tea as one has to walk out of the building and walk to the reception pavilion or beach bar to order a tea or coffee (it would also have been nice to find body lotion and a box of Kleenex in the room). Last but not least, the resort is located at about 6kms from the next town called Deshaies which you can reach by car, taxi or bus. Moreover, it is located 45 to 60 mns away from the airport and you will have to arrange your transfer to the hotel by emailing or calling a local taxi company (I emailed the hotel and they provided me the contact info). Best to rent a car if you want to visit the island and its stunning beaches or simply not have lunch or dinner at the resort every day !!

The location of the property is fantastic with two wonderful quiet beaches to walk and swim on. The sounds of the waves coming ashore \"sang\" us to sleep each night and greeted us in the morning.

The resort could have done a much better job on the buffets which were always the same and with little variety or choice. We had the breakfast buffet every day, and the dinner only for 4 nights - the others we went out to local restaurants which was wonderful.

Also, the grounds could have been enhanced with more gardens/trees/plants, and some of the hardscapes are getting old and worn needing some improvements.

Again, the location was great and allowed a higher ranking for the resort than otherwise.

First of all I should mention we stayed in a waterfront bungalow and purchased breakfasts only. That was good choice. Bungalows next to the seaside are very nice and cozy but the distinctive feature was stunning view from the bed when you get up in the morning or sit in front of.
There is also a hotel building well situated but nothing like waterfront bungalows. Also had heard some disappointing comments from other guests from the hotel building but haven’t experienced themselves.
Breakfasts were simple, buffet style and same for the whole week. Nevertheless, with sufficient choice for me and my wife. Launch a la carte, tasty with decent prices compared to other restaurants in the area. Diner buffet style, but can’t comment as never went for. Should mention there are someone restaurants at the neighbor beach 15 minutes waking through the forest. Nothing special but fine as alternatives. Prices are also comparable.
Stuff is very friendly and helpful. Speaks English unlike most of the local French only. Have good choice of activities in offer and everyone should be able to find something for himself.

The beach was beautiful probably the best part of this location. The bungalows were comfortable but the staff did not clean, they just replace towels and make bed, I even tipped them in hopes that my bed wouldn't have sand in it or they would clean the bathroom.. no luck. The food was HORRIBLE! I couldn't wait to come home and eat home cooked food. The buffet food is the worst I have ever had in all my travels so far. The people are not friendly except at the bar and if you want to eat that is your best bet for an OK meal of pizza or the kids burger meal. Shops in town are only open when the people feel like it and there are not many shops or restaurants near by. If you rent a vehicle and stay here be prepared to spend time searching for a parking spot, parking in the grass or a bush, the people at the gate interrogate you if you ask to go through. I had to drive up to get my sick mother and the man refused to open the gate for me telling me to park and walk, and going home to the airport they make you drag your bags all the way to the parking location. If there are no spots they might let you park in grass on the other side of the gate if you argue with them for 5 min first. I will NEVER stay here again. The wifi is terrible, and if you are an international traveler be prepared to not be able to charge anything! There are NO USB charging ports and the outlets do not allow an adapter to fit. The only good thing was the beach, beautiful ocean water, & losing lbs from starving.

Liked the fact that the staff were bi lingual staff. Facilities were good although would have liked a gym. Liked the beach immediately to the north of the hotel (larger waves). The water sports instructors was reluctant to provide a windsurf or cat lesson even though the wind was light and onshore and the waves were calm. So we did not get to go out that was the only disappointment with stay.

Resort on beautiful NW-facing beach

Langley has a terrific wide beach with shallow water, safe for all...and a smaller beach by bungalows. It is a large facility, but has enough room that it never seems too overcrowded. Fix price dinner is buffet style. Lots of food available, but average quality. Numerous better restaurants, however, in Deshaies, just few miles away. Stayed in bungalow, so cannot comment on regular hotel rooms on property. Few Americans as guests, but English widely spoken by staff.

Beach front huts are what makes the holiday and hotel for us. There is a small stretch of good beach in front of the huts which is separated from the main beach and much less used. The restaurant food is improved from last year. We ate there most nights this year. Staff are attentive and friendly. Only downside was the salads served at the bar during the day. They were good last year but dire this year. Also, the long walk to the car park which is 200-300 hundred yards from the main hotel area.

Amazing location - could improve WiFi in Hotel

A fantastic location (signs on the road could be better to find the place!). The beach and beach bar are very well positioned with great wifi. Could do with another staff member on the bar though, generally there was only one. Disappointed that the restaurant only offered the buffet in the evening for a set price and there was only limited pizza and panini choices at the bar. When the sun is shining the hotel is perfect. When it’s not, as the bar and reception are separate from the accommodation it makes it very difficult to socialise. The WiFi in the hotel building is poor and having rain and a teenager with no WiFi in the room in the evening was a challenge. We ended up taking a mattress off the bed and putting it next to the door each evening, as that was the only way to get a signal in a small area.
Bar staff were very friendly and helpful, but French speaking guests (at least 90%) struggled as 2 out of the 3 staff that week did not speak French.
Bar prices were reasonable for hotel prices and the pizzas were very good.
Reception staff were lovely and very helpful and friendly.
The restaurant is used for breakfast and it did seem that the previous evenings staff did not clean or sweep the floors and food up so breakfast tables did seem unclean.
Beach and bar area was cleaned and raked every morning at 9am and was very clean.
Overall - very happy with our stay, just a shame the rooms are advertised as WiFi when they are not fully covered.

Fantastic and underrated hotel

If you booked thinking that this was a 3* hotel, you've been misled. It is an exceptional hotel that should be rated higher.
The location and facilities are superb, a private beach in a stunning location. The food is good, plentiful, and comparatively reasonable for the Caribbean. The location is good in itself but located on an island of 'breathtaking' beaches. Hire a car, explore and enjoy.
The hotel has two sides a conventional block and beachside apartments where we stayed. The rooms aren't overly large but comfortable, and with facilities close, you need them only for sleeping. The staff ( mainly Swedish) are multilingual and friendly, guests are mainly French. It is an ideal hotel to sample the French Caribbean.

Spectacular location and beautiful beach tho hotel seems a bit dated. Pool bar staff were helpful and food here was good. Ate in the restaurant one night and not impressed. Ordered a glass of red wine and the waitress took my glass presumably to go and fill it. After fifteen minutes watching people coming after me getting served I had to ask again. Finally got my wine about 20 minutes after sitting down. €30 a s bit steep for what was on offer. Breakfast buffet was better but not sure it’s too healthy having cockerels running over the tables.

Nice hotel and Excellent beach huts

We stayed in one of the beach huts which was excellent. right next to a small beach away from the main beach and bar area. Service was really good, breakfast was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back, especially to a beach hut.

On the debit side only a couple of small items but they didn't spoil the stay. Minor hiccup with room service on day one, but this was remedied immediately and afterwards was excellent. The biggest issue was lack of cushions for the wooden sun loungers outside each of the beach huts. Without cushions they are uncomfortable. When we asked for cushions we were told it \"was not allowed\". no other explanation was offered. Some of the beach huts did have cushions, and eventually umbrellas, which we were told must have been taken from the pool area without permission as this was \"not allowed\" either. As nothing was done about this I suspect that the situation may be remedied over time by future guests.

Very nice property

Check in with Elsa quick, friendly and easy. Grounds are nice but maybe too big, a bit of walk to parking lot. Pool area nice and beach is right there. Staff very friendly throughout. Wi-Fi strong. Breakfast buffet pretty decent. Would come back.

Idyllic location and friendly service

This resort is perfect for a relaxing beach vacation. Its location is secluded enough to be peaceful but also a short drive from Deshaies's many restaurants and town amenities (and the staff, all of whom speak English, are very helpful in making dinner reservations etc). The resort's main beach was never too crowded the week we were there, with plenty of beach loungers for all. Similarly, the beach bar had a lively crowd each evening but service was quick and friendly.
We stayed in a beach bungalow and highly recommend it. The view from our front door was stunning, and the private area with beach loungers right outside our room was extremely convenient. There is also a smaller beach area adjacent to the bungalows for easy ocean access. Bungalows 78 and higher have a hillside directly behind them (rather than a path) so the window behind the bed looks onto a wall of greenery and the drapes can be left open without privacy concerns; they are also closest to the smaller beach.
Overall this resort exceeded our expectations and made for a perfect vacation.

Great 3 night stay.

I stayed in the large ocean view room. The view was surreal! Staff was very friendly and spoke English. Room was clean. My only issue was the room / ac was not cold enough at night, and the twin bed had no sheets. Entertainment was fantastic at this resort. Breakfast was a buffet with many great options of food.

Needs to be renovated

Hotel is on beach however when we were there you could not swim due to swells. The room had a great view of the ocean. The room had ripped curtains and we saw 3 roaches in our room. Our phone did not work.

Aged hotel - needs an update.

Not great - decent location and hotel has lots of potential for future. Everything a little tired looking. Buffet was ok but not inspired to stay in. Better to seek a local restaurant in Deshaies - a great town with lots of character.

The main hotel building we stayed in needs major renovations. The AC was broken and the wall around the unit was full of black mildew. The room also smelled of mildew. There were roaches. We asked to change rooms. The staff was very accommodating. The next room we were in leaked water from the floor when it rained. It rained several times a day. The beach is pretty and the clientele mostly Swedes and French, were nice and mellow. No loud, drunken, partying.

Stunning location. Hotel is a bit tired and worn.

The week we stayed was very windy so no water activities were available.
Breakfast buffet was great but the dinner buffet was very disappointing. We tried to get a taxi to eat outside the resort but were told 3 nights running that none were available. Its definitely worth getting a car for the week.

Most amazing location

We stayed in the bungalows right on the beach. Room 78. Although the rooms were somewhat out of date, they were unique and the location was perfect. The northern end of the island is the place to be.

Excellent position right on the beach

Pleasant staff, lovely view from our room in the hotel, beds very comfortable and room clean. However we were expecting a 4star hotel and it really was 3 star. The towels were small, we expected a bath sheet. Furnishings showing signs of age and 2 out of 4 hooks for towels etc were broken. Very old fashioned tv (square screen). During our stay over a very busy weekend one of the two lifts broke down and the other lift door often didn't close properly. Buffet breakfast was adequate, but would have expected freshly cooked eggs, the scrambled eggs had a strange consistency. Evening buffet poor value for money, not much choice. There were mangoes dropping off the trees and left to rot. They could easily collect them and offer them free at reception or put them on the breakfast buffet
During our visit there was evening entertainment which was good.
You definately need a car as the hotel is a few kilometers out of Dehaies.

Scenic location, set on two wonderful beaches

Very scenic location, set on two beautiful beaches (though one not suitable for swimming due to strong currents). A further two even more fantastic beaches nearby- Plage La Perle and Grand Anse. Both breathtaking and can be reached on foot via paths through the rainforest.

Need a car to explore.

Staff friendly and helpful, speaking good English and French.

Facilities average with a hut for water sports, tennis court, games area and small gift shop.

Only one restaurant on site, with buffet dinners that get repetitive. The Creole Sunday Brunch is buffet style again, but recommended.

The hotel is both base camp and some times location for the tv series Death in Paradise, and you may spot the odd character walking the grounds!

Rooms often not made up until 3pm.

Could improve service offering by holding weekly management parties, and a Friday night barbecue by the large open space outside the restaurant would also liven things up.

Guests a good mix across all age groups, families and couples.

Lovely setting right on beach. Very relaxed and friendly. Evening buffet very expensive at 29 euros
With very bland and uninteresting food. Only ate there once. Buffet breakfast ok if you get there early.
Young staff very helpful. On site shop very limited.

Don't stay here if you want an island experience

I booked a sea view bungalow. It was claustrophobic no windows a sliding door passerbyes could see into. Old falling apart furniture up many loose stone steps and a long walk to the beach. We moved into a larger room with sliders overlooking the sea on the 2nd floor of their hotel building. Lovely.
Terrible food, only buffet dinner or food in Chinese take out containers from the same kitchen ordered at the outdoor bar. Take away pasta $10. Buffet dinner $30. All food very poor quality and there is no service you need to do everything yourself including getting your own beach chairs. No. Bathroom amenities to speak of. Front desk employees helpful, but I had the feeling they never left the grounds. Also when you check in you are given a bracelet to wear during your stay to get in and out of the premises. I felt like a child who might get lost and needed to be returned.

Solid hotel with great beach, bar and location.

Stayed in oceanfront bungalow. Bathroom clean, great shower, incredible views. Furniture quite beat up but that didn't bother us.
FAR walk to parking made our 2-3 trips out daily a little cumbersome.
Soft sanded beach. Buffet for breakfast fine for simple food...don't expect Omlettes or even their scrambled eggs looked more like Oatmeal. Wifi ok but on/off and not string enough to support streaming.

Decent hotel in Deshaies on the beach

Expedia messed up our reservation since we booked a room with two beds and a balcony and ocean view. Upon check-in, the hotel had no record of this. Instead, we got our two beds but our room faced a concrete wall...such a disappointment. Overall, the hotel was just okay. The food and drinks at the bar needed a lot of improvement. The rooms looked outdated and in need of redecorating.

A casual resort in beautiful tropical setting.

We enjoyed some relaxing hours sitting on the beautiful beach as well as a couple of fun excursions including the \"Turtle Safari\" snorkeling adventure and a trip to a zoo in the Rainforest. The dining pavilion provided a plentiful breakfast with ocean views. There was live music with dancing at the beach bar in the evenings. Also, the town of Deshaies was a quick drive for some great local cuisine.

One of the best mini vacations we've had!

We only stayed for a few days but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean and large enough and the area is very nice. All the people who work there are super friendly and helpful and always accommodating. If you're looking for a relaxing and quiet resort, this is it!!

Beautiful location in Basse Terre

We stayed 3 nights at fort royal near Deshais during a nine night trip. It was one of the few resorts we saw. We ate at the buffet every night and the food was exquisite, everything cooked fresh, always a fish and meat entree as well as wonderful fruit, ice cream and appetizers, pasta and pizza! The grounds were well kept, the pool in a beautiful setting rolled by mountains and the sea. Worth every cent if you are looking for a resort.

Base terra hotel

Only stayed one night but had a very enjoyable, and comfortable stay. Staff was very helpful in setting up an early morning taxi departure for the airport including coffee, juice and yogurt to go at 5am. Agnes, Oscar, and Hans are great people to hand on the staff. Look for them if you need anything. Dinner buffet had a great variety and the glacé at the end was perfect.
