I would recommend this hotel. The unit we have was set up like a French Gite. Outside under cover was the fully equipped kitchen and dining area. Inside plenty of room with a TV, WiFi, master bed and two single beds. En-suite with shower. Staff were family and spoke several languages. We ate at the restaurant on New Year’s Eve and the food was excellent. Would recommend the restaurant. There is a small swimming pool but the beach is only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Good location to explore from. Plenty of parking.

A true Caribean experience

Beautifully well kept and just like the pictures. The staff although mostly French are superb and do their best to understand and assist you. Many speak Emglish & willtranslate their menu. Something that is rare in Guadaloupe. Beds changed every 4 days. The staff are consistantly clearing cleaning and tidying to keep the grpunds immaculate. The walk to yhe beach is 5 minutes and their are frequent buses into Deshaises. If u want unspoilt Caribean this is the place to go. Shout out too to Virgini & Suzanne running the restaurant like clockwork. Suzanne we shall be looking for u on telly & Virgini if u get to Manchester. Drop us an email.

Spacious bungalows with great views

We really enjoyed Habitation Grande Anse. Next time we will come during the cooler season and when the restaurant is open. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The view from our bungalow was amazing, and we enjoyed relaxing there as the day wound down.

Within short walk to Grande Anse beach. Beautifully kept tropical grounds. Clean, quiet room. We speak no French, but the front desk people did speak English and were very helpful in making reservations for us for day excursions. Great restaurant on site served delicious seafood. The chef came out both nights we ate there to be sure we enjoyed our food. The restaurant hostess was lovely. We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed for 2 nights in the panoramic room. View is exceptional and staff very friendly and accommodating. This hotel absolutely deserves a higher score than at present (8/10).

Would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone looking to stay near Deshaies. The only gotcha is the panoramic room requires you to walk up quite a steep hill for 5 minutes so may be an issue for people with mobility issues

Fairly good location although a bit far from some places, must have a car to get around. Property well kept and room ok including a kitchen with basic gear. In a week only had the room cleaned once and despite efforts sand does get in. It would have been nice to have a broom or other to deal with the sand. Parking was difficult as it was crowded. But overall liked this place. Warning, all uphill; be prepared to climb as parking is at the bottom of the hill.

I chose this resort based on location as its near the beach and good restaurants. Some of the reviews will state its outdated and they did post that they will undergo renos but no date. The reason i am giving this resort a good review is because it is close to the beach and restaurants as advertised. You'll need to rent a car to get around and if from Canada book your pcr test at synergibio. The staff is friendly and helpful(printing forms as an example) and have a positive vibe. Cant ask for much more then that. Kitchen appliances worked, we could cook leftovers on the stove

Make sure to request a tree top view!! Breathtaking view of the mountains and rain forest and beach. The room is very minimal but bed is comfortable. About 8 minute walk from the Grande Anse beach - there are many restaurants near the beach open for lunch. Hotel serves breakfast and dinner. Food is okay! No wifi in the room, very slow wifi in lobby.

Nestled in a hillside within a close walk to a spectacular beach, this well-maintained hotel is an absolute joy for those seeking the freedom of renting a home and the comforts of staying at hotel. My only problem with HGA is that the wifi is not good at all, Should be a fairly easy fix and I hope management looks into it. On the positive side, this gave me a perfect excuse to disconnect from work! Even though you are close to the beach, you will need a car in this part of Guadeloupe to fully enjoy your stay.

Location is okay-to-good as long as you have a car - short hop to most amenities in Deshaies, short walk to the beach at Grande Anse, although one might end up driving quite long distances to everything else on Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre. The villas itself were okay, decent efforts were made with mosquito netting but one will still have one or two sneak into the room anyway. Fridge was outdoors alas - sensible to the extent that the cooking areas were outdoors, but not when one just wants to reach for a drink without braving mosquitoes. It's quite quiet at night, not counting the hum of insects especially in the morning. Had little interaction with the staff - literally just to check in and check out!

Overall a pleasant and relaxing holiday,staff very obliging.One caveat, the Hotel bar had a very limited choice of evening cocktails, @ least during our stay.Rum punch was the only option! Not a huge problem, except the the only alternative would have been to go to a beach bar. Not an option as some driving would have been necessary! However, we would go again. Enough said?

Hotel is ok but won’t wow anyone. Pictures online make it look a lot more luxurious than it feels. Rooms are dated and on site restaurant is just ok. Breakfast is a huge rip off at 14.5 Euro each - it consists of scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit and yogurt. Beach is very nice nearby but is not right across from hotel. You need to drive or walk across the road and down about a half mile to access it

A Little Bit of Life in Paradise

Excellent hotel with fantastic friendly staff and good facilities.
The situation and the area is breathtaking - one week was just not enough.
We successfully rode out a category 4 hurricane during our visit but time and again the staff helped us through and the buildings took it all in their stride.
Within 24 hours everything was normal again at the Grande Anse.
We are already planning a return visit - maybe at a slightly different season because there is so much still to do and see.

Habitation Grand Anse is a good hotel, well looked after and clean. The swimming pool / bar area are excellent. It's useful to have a small kitchen area so you can cook some meals / have breakfast without always paying the hotels quite expensive prices. The bedrooms are large and quite basic. Our beds were comfortable.
The nearby beach of Grand Anse is one of the best on the island - idyllic - and the nearby small town of Deshaies offers some great places to eat & drink.

Beautiful views, a short walk from a great beach

My two grown daughters and I spent two nights here, eating dinner in Deshaies one night and at HGA's restaurant the second night. Both meals were fantastic; and the service at HGA was top notch. We had adjoining rooms with a shared terrace that looked out across the grounds and to the ocean. Beautiful and peaceful! Highly touted Plage de Grande Anse is about a half-mile walk from the property -- it is a beautiful beach for walking, swimming, or hanging out and having a drink or meal (several beachfront restaurants). Deshaies is only a mile or two from HGA -- very easy to get to, and lots of restaurant and shopping choices when you get there. Highly recommend!

Beautiful hotel with nice villas throughout a big tropical park with gorgeous pool. the villa was very clean, spacious, very quiet and with a wonderful terrace overlooking this beautiful park. This hotel is just ok. The rooms are clean but very dark and the staff are a bit cold and unhelpful - I was told off for checking out at 7am in the morning! But if you need to keep connected to the internet then steer clear of this location - the internet doesn't work and there's no phone signal, so you'll need to go into Deshaies to check emails etc.

overall satisfactory stay but internet a big issue, completely unreliable and very slow. this was a major problem for my husband (could not keep up with a few simple business obligations) and communication with family was difficult. Could not book anything off the internet, could not check in for flight etc. There is no data service on the island so unfortunately you do rely on wifi and this was one of the reasons to choose this hotel so a bit of a let down here. Otherwise helpful and friendly staff, good restaurant, nice pool. Handy kitchenette on terrace of studio/room. Room decor and facilities ok but a bit dated. Nice garden. Easy to find hotel.

Waiting for a new owner?? The lobby and bar with outdoor tables overlooking the beautiful Caribbean are very nice, clearly effort has been put into upkeep here. This also the scene of the generous and quite good breakfast, however the rest of the hotel is in serious need of renovation!! Apparently this is considered the best hotel on the island, it was chosen for the visit if the French president and also for France'a Davis Cup team,so I felt less duped by travel book recommendations! Not a great value as it wasn't inexpensive, but the view is outstanding and our sea view room had a great vista. There are nice smaller hotels near Deshaies ( try Le Rayon Vert) and farther out toward St Francois ( Amaudo), but I guess this is it if you need/want to be in Gosier ...for a quick drive to that early morning Norwegian Air flight back to JFK!

Do it your way at the informal, cozy Habitation

We enjoyed our stay at Habitation. We didn't understand that it was a self-catering situation, but it turned out to be fine. The food at the restaurant is good. For a change, we bought food in town and had an informal dinner on our porch. The pool is nice. The beach is a close walk and is a beautiful spot. However, it is not ideal for children, since there is a very steep drop-off and no gradual entry or wading area. The town of Deshaises is cute and fun to explore, as is the nearby botanical gardens.

Well-kept gardens - short walk to beach

This suited us but take into consideration this is not really a hotel. We were a family group and so could have individual rooms/cottages but still eat together on the terrace.

On the plus-side, the gardens were beautiful, the rooms worked for us and there was a lovely view from the terrace over the mountains and rain forest. There is a fridge, a filter coffee machine and a tea pot.There is free parking on site.
On the negative side, the room was only cleaned once in 7 days so be prepared. Also, the kitchen was supposed to have a microwave (it didn't) and there was no kettle (we had a travelling kettle) but otherwise, it was extremely well-equipped and there was no problem cooking a meal for my family on the two gas burners. There are NO beach towels.

Breakfast was very expensive and there was much better value in town if you have a car to get there, or you can buy bread from the garage at the end of the drive.
Do not forget that this hotel is in the rain forest and so it rains A LOT - everyday and several times a day - but that is why the scenery is so green and lush.

Beautiful hotel in a great spot

We spent a wonderful week there at the end of December. The staff members spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. There are beautiful beaches nearby. The village of Deshais is lovely, very charming with good restaurants by a beautiful small harbor. The hotel's restaurant is also excellent. Shopping for groceries is very easy at Deshais, and the outdoor kitchens in each of the hotel units are great, well equipped with everything needed. Ours had a beautiful view of the lush vegetation and the ocean (which made it well worth the steep climb!).

Great room with exceptional view of the ocean from our porch.
The beach was a short driving distance from the hotel. Front desk service (when operational) was good with english speaking people. Keep in mind that the rooms are not made everyday, breakfast is not included but you can make your own in the full kitchenette provided. Convenient stores are a short drive away.

Relaxing hotel close to beach

We stayed in an apartment style room at this hotel. It was quite the hike up a big hill to get to the room, but once we arrived it was breathtaking. Our balcony looked over endless trees, mountains, and the ocean down below.

The beach was a 5 minute walk from the hotel and there are plenty of lunch spots nearby, all which are good.

My only complaints are: 1) there is no bar at the hotel during the day, only after 6pm 2) there is no nightlife nearby, this is the tranquil side of the island 3) you really need to rent a car! This isn't a complaint, just a strong suggestion. It'll save you taxi fare and will allow you to venture to the more lively parts of the island if that's your thing.

Service was great and the restaurant was above average. Book a room on the higher elevation. We had room 27 that had an AMAZING view of the ocean and an outdoor patio area with lounge chairs. Loved cooking at the outside kitchen. You will need a car to be comfortable at this location. There is a steep incline from the pool area to the actual units, but for room 27 you have a parking spot. Still take into consideration if you have bad knees. Overall was very romantic, peaceful, and good value for money.

Beware that the hotel will immediately charge a 30% deposit and then will ignore your emails. Upon arrival, you will find desk staff that have no idea how long you are staying for, inedible breakfasts foisted upon you, dingy rooms with no water pressure, dodgy toilets and anemic air conditioning. Night staff try to make up for the day staff's unresponsiveness but this run down establishment needs a complete retrofit to be habitable. A shrug of the shoulders is the only response you will get to the cramped, poorly lit rooms where you will hear everything your neighbors are doing. It is simply ridiculous to be told that wifi is unavailable in the rooms - where you will desperately try to book elsewhere as soon as you arrive. You will need to double check your bill before leaving and make sure they actually remember to deduct that deposit - our first bill didn't reflect it at all and it was only several hours after my initial request that I finally received a proper bill. And don't get me started on the food. Overpriced and largely inedible.

Comfort and convenience in an ideal location

Beautiful grounds, ideally located by one of the most spectacular beaches I've ever seen. Accommodations are simple but more than adequate for a beach vacation, with large bathrooms and well-equipped outdoor kitchens. My friend and I actually found the beds quite comfortable, unlike some other reviewers. Breakfast was overpriced, for the ho-hum offerings, so better off buying groceries at the large Super U a couple miles down the main road.

Everything we could have hoped for!

The perfect balance between self catering and having the option to dine in their restaurant for breakfast and dinner (although you need to ask in advance, with good reason!)
The nearest town just 2 minute drive to pick up pastries in the morning and the nearest beach about 5 minutes walk. An incredible feeling of being in the south of France and the Caribbean. Something very nostalgic and very new for us!
We drove all over the island and concluded it was the perfect location for quiet and beautiful beaches. And definitely one of the best hotels.
Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, reception staff spoke both French and English, which was a relief as the heat was slowing down my translating faculties somewhat!
The pool was secluded by palm trees giving a very relaxed feel and the local wildlife was completely relaxed too. Couldn't have asked for more!

Lovely garden hotel, nice setting

Our stay was enjoyable, however the beds and pillows were not comfortable. We liked that the kitchenettes were unique and well stocked, however the glassware is very small. The restaurant was fine but only open at limited times and when we arrived on Christmas Eve, we were told that there were no reservations available and that the restaurants in town were all full. I would stay here again but it would be nice to have known these flaws and be better prepared to deal with them.

If staying here you will need
1, your own transport
2, a good grasp of French, both written and spoken.
There is little public transport. not even a taxi on a Sunday
No ATM so no access to funds.
Rooms are up a very steep hill along an uneven and poorly lit path
All local tour/activity information is in French only

It is a mistake to call this place a hotel. Staff are rude and disinterested, restaurant is average and rooms are basic and crawling with bugs. Pay a bit more and go somewhere else.

Great Location out of the Tourist Zone

I believe that each of these units have outdoor kitchen facilities and equipment that are well done. While we were there, it appeared that there was a range of guests from families to couples. The inside of our unit had a bedroom with a king bed and a curtain-separated second room with a single bed. The bathroom was off the main bedroom. Nothing special about the interiors, but very clean and quite utilitarian. There is a good restaurant on ground and a great pool. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and have a nice feel. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to Grande Anse beach. There are not a lot of other businesses in the immediate area and I would recommend having a car to make getting around feasible. The people in reception and in the restaurant were extremely nice, helpful, and responsive to our needs. We had a very relaxed stay there and would do it again.

The hotel is really nice. The room has everything you need, and it is located near some awesome beaches. The restaurant is excellent. All the staff we dealt with was friendly and helpful. There are many chickens and roosters roaming the area, so if you're not a morning person, it might not be ideal.
Only thing that kept it from being a 5 rating is that the room isn't serviced daily- they only clean it every 3 days.

Restful

This was our first holiday to Guadeloupe, HGA's chalets were very restful within the beautiful landscaped gardens, for the 2 of us they were very adequate and very clean. Our chalet was about 30 metres up from the main reception, and the kitchen was inside rather than outside, which we were happy with. The staff were pleasant, some spoke good English. The Breakfasts were very good, but unfortunately the restaurant was closed until later in the year.
We had a very restful and relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.
There was some maintenance being carried out on a couple of other chalets further up, which did cause some noise most days, but not constantly.

One of the receptionist should not have that job.
Unfriendly and not helpful.
This is more like bungalows than hotel.
Nice view from the room. too much to climb.
the location son far away and is not a nice beach.

Beautiful location and grounds, excellent breakfast, evening staff very helpful. But - the mattress was rock-hard, and wifi is only accessible in a tiny area that seats 3-5 people and is heavy with mosquitoes.
