Great Rodadero hotel On the Beach

This is a fabulous hotel on the beach, in Rodadero, a few few miles, south of the city of Santa Marta. Our room, and it seems all the rooms overlooked the pool, which is in front of the beach. It is a magnificent view of the beach and the ocean and islands and surrounding hills. Every morning you can wake up and walk out to the beach and go swimming, or the pool. The room had good Wi-Fi air conditioning, and a ceiling fan, which I love. The staff was very friendly. Every morning we had a great breakfast to get started on whatever we decided to do. it is a short walk to the restaurants or bars in Rodadero, or a short taxi ride to Santa Marta. There is a bar near the pool. That serves cocktails and or beer and snacks.The hotel is right next to the boats that can take you to Playa Inca, Inca, or playa blanca Perry. We took a taxi out to Bahía playa Concha. That’s a really spectacularly beautiful beach.

We ate dinner at the hotel the first night, but I would not recommend the food we had that night.

I don’t think you can find a better beach hotel in the area.

We always stay here when visiting Santa Marta 2 or 3 times a year. We love it and have no reason to look elsewhere. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are nice with beautiful beach and sunset views, the on-site Tamaca tours are outstanding, we love it.

Older hotel with a great beach location

Older hotel with a great location. They've done a good job of keeping it updated. Not a luxury stay, but good enough if you want a central location on the beach with amazing views. I was on the top floor and had floor to ceiling ocean view, as the entire wall facing the ocean is a giant window. Staff is very nice. I will say it took 40 minutes to check in, which was both strange and frustrating. Other than that, we had a nice stay here.

I never felt that my belongings were safe in the room. Rooms are plain and boring. Some staff were rude and others were very helpfull. They offered insurance against theft. My responce to them was tell your staff not to steal my stuff. The beach outside is dirty and plagued with barkers, peddlers and thiefs. Someone bothers you ever 30 seconds for you to buy something.

The hotel is very nice and the pool is very relaxing and beautiful. The only thing I didn’t like was we got the old room with the old furniture and the view to beach was attached with the garbage container. I saw my other friends room and it was a nice room. So I believe is luck.
But the people and service is good.

Tired-looking older hotel, but well-maintained and fully functional. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner buffets were decent, but not particularly tasty. The large and clean pool was the best part, especially helpful because the sun gets especially hot here, and you burn easily.

The one big issue was the beach scene just beyond the hotel. The hotel itself only provides a few white tent cabanas, which were full when we got there. In front of the hotel cabanas were a bunch of blue cabanas for rent, but they wanted $50k, and seemed to get upset when we declined it. Lots of overly persistent hawkers, selling trips and experiences, who were unwilling to take no for an answer. The beach itself is non-descript with a small cordoned-off swimming area and lots of people swimming. You're better off going to beaches in the Parque Tayrona or further East, where the beaches are spectacular.

P.s. if you're planning to visit Parque Tayrona, check carefully if its open. Its closed for maintenance a few weeks a year, which may change from year-to-year.

The food is not good here. It’s very disappointing because it’s a beautiful place with a great location. I tried the dinner buffet one night but it was dry and over cooked fish and really not a lot of choice.
I decided to order lunch off the regular menu, I had a quinoa salad with shrimp that gave me good poisoning and took 2days to recover

Loved the all of the staff who were very helpful and friendly to 2 Americans with limited Spanish, especially the bar tenders who always wanted to make you laugh and smile while teaching about were they are from and their families. The property didn’t recognize gold status. Didn’t get any benefits. The pool has too limited shade area. To go to beach. It can take a while before they unlock the gate to go in and out. The breakfast buffet has few options. And you can’t leave the table with food to get more as the birds will swoop in. The location is great. On the beach. Close to many restaurants. A mall. And shopping areas. This place could be great to stay if just a few changes.

Great location but birds eat your food when you are no looking and cats run around lose and created destruction with some of the tables also the hotel tents are giving are just a few and the locals get preference with first come first serve , that doesn't work in a place like this. You get there early but someone gets there and with leaving a towel on a chair is already taken and most of the time those people desapear for hours .

The pro of the hotel is that is beach front and nearby restaurants. However, the beach front is very crowded without any hotel service and the neighboorhod is also busy with lots of constructions. Hotel is overpriced and old, for almost the same price you have a much better hotel in praia dormida where the beach is much better and the hotel 10x better

What we paid for the room with ocean view with a balcony was misleading as the photos of the room were beautiful but what we actually got was not....the room was very run down with broken dresser drawers that smelled musty, the mattresses were hard as rock and the balcony was so small that you could barely stand on it. The security of this hotel is terrible...

I was robbed u$900,- some one entered my room and opened the safe locker where i had my purse with cash safely secured..at least that is what i thought...they took out this 900 u$and closed my purse..closed the locker door again..perfect crime...

I paid for some kind of insurance..but that was a joke...they only are willing to take a
Case serious when there is evidence of
Clear damage ...stupid..their safe lockers are of the super old types you can open with a normaL key..

Also very strange was that when I entered the room the safety locker was closed and i had to ask assisance to have it opened up...
Some lady came in with a key and opened the locker in 3 seconds...do we have any guarantee that there is no spare key in hands of some criminal working in this hotel???

The investigation lead to nowhere...

My advise to all visitors...please stay away
From.these safety lockers...they will rob you..inside jobs I think..

Do not travel with cash or jewelry to this hotel!!!!

I am.advised to take my case to the ministry
Of tourism to have some kind of justice done...I am considering that right now..

The property was pretty. The location was extremely tourist but i guess thats to be expected. We had a water line to the toilet break, but they repaired it fairly quickly. There were nice beaches and a pool with jacuzzis but i really didnt use much. The need to make reservations to use the facilities was a pain. I dont like to plan every moment of my day when im trying to relax. The one morning we spent in the beach we were absolutely drowning in people trying to sell us things. Like to say every 2- 5 minutes someone was bothering us. Often they would be extremely persistent. A nice resort with a good staff, but not so great for me.

We didn't want to fight for them with everyone else and decided to get a table with umbrella at a nearby restaurant by the beach taking our food and drink spending somewhere else.

This was my f0ifth stay at the hotel in the past year and a half. It's a great place to stay. However, on this stay we booked a tour to a beach at Tayrona National Park through Tamaca Tours at the hotel. We were told that the trip was by boat, which to me is part of the entertainment. This turned out not to be true, it was a trip by bus to the park. An hour into the trip, we were still driving around Rodadero picking up other people and we still had more than an hour ride to the park. I told the driver to return us to the hotel. Customer service at the hotel explained that the tour company was independent of the hotel but they negotiated a 50% refund for me. I accepted it, considering this is Colombia and you don't get refunds for anything here. I was explaining my experience to another guest at the hotel. He told me that the day before, he had a tour guide who said he was son of the owner of the tour company who was also the owner of the hotel. I don't know who to believe here but I don't see any reason for him to lie to me. So, after feeling I was misled about the tour and about the refund I will no longer be staying at this hotel. If you choose to take a tour from this hotel, be sure to get specifics in writing. I didn't, and after living in Colombia for 3 years, I should have known better.

Relaxing stay in Santa Marta

Very nice stay on the beach in nicest area of Santa Marta. Pool was excellent, location to beach access, restaurants, shopping, transportation was excellent. WiFi was very good. Room was good sized and had lovely view of beach and sunsets. The staff was incredibly helpful with all aspects of our trip including local places to check out, tours, local transportation and learning about the history. Breakfast was a highlight with complimentary newspapers, local and Bogota. We always felt safe and secure.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Tamaca hotel and again we had a very good experience. Staff very friendly and approachable. Room very clean and equipped with everything we needed. Hotel situated very close to the beach which its a plus for people with children. Swimming pool nice and clean. Tours were good. Breakfast was good. Varied everyday. In overall everything was good. We will visit it again for sure.

The view from the room was amazing. The pool was great right next to the beach. The staff was helpful with a smile. The elevator stopped going to the 6th floor where I was for 2 days and still was not fixed. I had to take the steps the last floor everytime up and down. Not a big deal but it still wasn’t fixed when I left.

Note...I got sick while in Santa Marta and I do not think it was the hotel. They were nice and had a doctor come. I left there and went to Cartagena. It has been 6 days and I am still sick. Enough so that it has ruined the trip. In the room the whole vacation. Stomach problems. I believe it’s common in Santa Marta. I did not drink the water or use the tap water for my toothbrush. This is really something to consider when planning to go to Santa Marta. The good is I am guessing I lost 5-7 pounds soooo fat still going strong. :).

Can’t understand how this hotel was getting amazing reviews. It’s close to a beach and that’s about it. Outside our room there was some sort of construction work going on really early in the morning. When talking to reception, the lady working behind the desk called Luz said they didn’t know about any construction (even though it was on their premises). Not giving any solitons, my friend had to suggest that she find out and possibly move us to another location. They said they’d find us and let us know. Several hours passed and nothing again. We had to approach them once more and still none the wiser. Very disappointing. Also, free flies were included in the price of breakfast if you paid for it.
Hotel is dated and the local area doesn’t have much to offer a paper from a nice restaurant on a cliff top. If you’re looking for more night life..find accommodation closer to Santa Marta centre and Parque los novios.

Hotel Tamaca is probably the nicest place to stay in Santa Marta. Actually, it's not located in Santa Marta, but a neighborhood over the hill, Rodadero.

Overall, it's a great value for what you pay. The service is high level and the rooms are very comfortable. There is a mini bar in each room and prices are reasonable. A buffet style breakfast is included. There is a pool, outdoor bar and juice station. They also offer laundry service.

The nearby beach is not impressive. However, you can hire a boat to take your to a variety of nice playas in the area, public and private.

there is no really balcony... dont except a big balcony beacuse it so small we couldnt really put a chair threre.
the staff is very nice and halpful, specially the girl from the tour desk, she's got a great english and it helps.
the breakfast is nice but all the breads are sweet. no fresh vegetable. but there is an omlete that you can ask from the staff and they will do anything for you.
great location, close to everything you need... and there is always a taxi so you can take if you want to go somewhere far (we took for santa marta and taganga).
great pool and great beach. we enjoyed our time there.
