Gem in the Castle Countryside

Stayed at Chateau d’Urspelt to kickoff a 2 week trip in Europe from America. From the second we turned into the hotel grounds (which lies upon renovated castle grounds), we were so impressed. We immediately had our jaws on the floor with the overall ambience and beauty of the resort, and enjoyed time in the library on the first afternoon. Major highlights that simply cannot be found elsewhere are the gorgeous spa equipped with a LARGE network of natural-looking caverns to swim through, with an amazing sauna, and the very cool underground cellar bar which was also larger than I thought. The second night a large senior tour group had been stopping through for dinner and a one night stay, and although the hotel was significantly busier than our first night, the restaurant staff treated us with care and individuality, and we were not bothered by any noise. In fact the Bar that night was a huge trip highlight! Big shoutout to Bruno and Moses for making us feel at home immediately

Great 4-star home base for Battle of the Bulge. Very clean, AC worked fine, adequate electricity in the room, WiFi was good. Shower was fantastic; bed was Queen sized with a new mattress and nice sheets. Parking is around back, but it's covered from most rain.

Breakfast was a bit pricey but the nicest that we had for the whole vacation. Excellent food and a wide assortment.

This is a higher-end place, and the clientele show it. We saw some \"celebrities\" while there.

Local grocery store, \"Cactus,\" is fabulous to fill up on the things you need for your car. Water, snacks, etc. About a five minute drive, in Marnach.

Very good \"central base\" for touring the Bulge. The chateau, itself, was part of a relatively minor skirmish but just down the road in Clervaux (a *must* see) the Americans really held up the Germans in a rather significant battle. Marnach, where Cactus is, also held the Germans up with strong resistance. That's the theme of the whole area, and Urspelt is a great location to start from. St. Vith, Malmedy, Bastogne (of course), Houffalize, etc. are all easy to reach and worth the trip.

TV was good. Note that you can change the \"sound\" setting to get American shows in their native English, which opens up a lot to watch while you wind down.

Highly recommended for couples. Highly.

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel/spa in Luxembourg. There was an upscale restaurant for dinner, self-serve breakfast and a bar for after dinner drinks. Bedding was extremely comfortable, room had air conditioning, heated outdoor pool, and a nice outdoor patio area to have drinks/cocktails prior to dinner. Unfortunately, we did not have time to make use of the spa, but it looked very nice.

Mostly lovely, just a few odd areas for improvement - having smoking stations right by the spa doors and hotel side entrance, and outdoor pool isn’t something that brings joy! The outdoor bar closing at 6pm in mid summer is just silly, forcing guests and staff to use the cellar bar seems another strange decision. The food quality in the restaurant is disappointing, it feels like mass catering done badly, but served as though it’s Michelin star quality. Otherwise our room, the pool, the breakfast,the peace and quiet all lovely, and the staff mostly very professional and friendly.

Did not like the fact that there was limited air flow and air con in our room. Very hard to sleep in a family room without any airflow. Fans helped but let's just say, would expect a bit more than two fans whirring in the background to help us get some oxygen into the room.

I’m not sure why this place has four stars. The property is beautiful, but the service is the restaurant is terrible. Waited nearly 2 hours for our food. It was not worth a 2 hour wait. Staff apart from front desk, don’t speak English. The extra bed in our room was unportable and squeaky. We only had hand towels in our bathroom and had to request larger ones. Because it had been warm that day, it would appear this property died not have proper ventilation, especially in the “ fine dining” restaurant and breakfast area. It was stuffy and hot. The breakfast is fine but again for a four star hotel- not amazing. There were flies by and on the food plus in our room. I would not spend the money to stay there again. Disappointing stay.

If you're looking for the best hotel in Europe for the price, I highly recommend this one. It's a renovated castle where you'll feel like royalty. The staff is friendly, the rooms are impeccably clean, and the views are spectacular. At night, you can enjoy a bar located underground, where the ancient castle walls add a unique charm. Check your bill !! Reception young girl with glasses in morning added 50 Euro to the bill. Lucky we noticed, then she would not believe us so took us 40mins in the carpark on their weak wifi to prove to her that we had clearly already paid for 3 people - sad price gouging or bad training, no apology of course - either way it destroyed our confidence in this place. (Man in evening was delightful though). Pros: Breakfast good. Cons: lots of Ants in room, No aircon or fans. Lots of Flies in room - as window had to be a tiny bit open as way too hot with no fans to sleep. Rock hard beds.

We had a really mixed stay as some parts of the experience were great and others weren’t.

The good:

The spa is incredible. Amazing facilities, good treatments and the cave pool is something I’ve never experienced in a spa before.

The château itself is very beautiful and the outdoor areas are really relaxing and romantic.

The breakfast buffet was great. Good food, lots of choice and lovely to eat in the courtyard.

The food and presentation at dinner was good.

The bad:
The service was just not good at times. The staff seemed a bit too busy and overworked, and whilst they were trying their best, things would get forgotten.

At dinner our wine never came but then appeared on the bill. We had to go inside to ask about the bill as no one had come to our table for so long. They said they would bring an allergy friendly amuse bouche and then we had to ask multiple times and it took a while.

The menu at dinner is a little limiting, especially if you have allergies. If you stayed a couple of nights, you might run out of choices. Also, they ran out of cheese at 8:45pm, so we couldn’t have the dining option we wanted which made it more limiting.

The room was a little bit shabby in areas with paint peeling etc. It was also extremely hot, so difficult to get much sleep. The view wasn’t a courtyard/garden view as advertised, we could just see the car park.

Our late checkout was forgotten so we had to go to the desk in our robes, locked out.

The door to to the restaurant was left open, so there were dozens of flies that needed to be constantly swatted away from food and drink. The food was excellent, but they should have had a better cooling system to keep all the flies out. The room heating and cooling only worked with a room card inserted, so the room was stuffy when we checked in. We left a card in while at dinner and overnight, and it only got to a decent temperature by morning. When we went to breakfast, we took the card. When we came back, it was immediately stuff again, so we checked out. The pool was nice, but there are houses directly on the other side of the pool wall, so people could see in. The pictures make you think that the property is out in the countryside, but it doesn’t feel that way when you can see houses right next door. Was woken up at 7 in the morning to farm equipment being sprayed down, which was right next to the room and under the window. There are a few bits that of a château, but the majority of the finishes are faux attempts to look aged, so they could have done a better job in decorating because it comes off with the impression of an attempt to give a château feel but only on a cursory glance. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I was excited about this stay and really wanted to like it, but it was ultimately disappointing.

The property is quite lovely, very clean. Room is fairly spacious (by European standards). There's a nice little spa with various limited capacity amenities on the grounds, but day use fees are very steep and there's no discount for guests staying at the Chateau (vs those just visiting spa for the day).

Of course, there's limitations right now, so all your food is delivered to your room and dining room isn't available. For dinner, it's the same set menu with 2 of the same options (veg/meat) every single day. Food is just okay - large portions but quite salty.

They could be understaffed considering the current situation, but the service is not quite at 4.5* expectations - they keep forgetting and mixing up things that you ask for/specify. Also, in-room bath toiletries are inconsistent - they're branded with the Spa's name and first night shampoo and conditioner smelled like honey and were divine for my hair. Next time they refilled them, it was exact same packaging specifying same \"Honey dream\" products but it smelled like fake/chemical almond and did not have the same hair effect.

It's listed as a \"VIP access\" property with perks but absolutely no perks/upgrades were provided at the property even after I enquired at the front desk - the associate said something about not being able to find things at the time and promised to send something to my room later, but, of course, nothing arrived.

We loved our stay here. Staff were friendly, very romantic location. Such a nice touch that they give free glu wine to their guests, which you can have around the fire pit. The only thing we would comment as a negative thing is that the food as part of the in room dining experience (because of covid) was not up to the standard of the food which they normally serve in their restaurant, i do not believe it was worth the cost! As basic repairs such a broken holder for the showers in the spa and bathroom could have easily been done, but instead fixed with tape.

Romantic Weekend Escape

As soon as lock-down restrictions were eased in Luxembourg, we wanted to have a romantic weekend escape, without leaving the country. The Chateau d'Urspelt turned out to be the perfect location! Just 50 minutes drive North, through beautiful countryside, in a quiet setting, with plenty of facilities on-site to keep you pampered throughout your stay. Very helpful & friendly staff, especially when my poor husband had a nasty fall. Thank you to everyone!

I stayed in the suite and enjoyed my stay. the suite is similar in style to the house at which I was raised in China. when it has sunshine the suite’s bedroom and living room are very beautiful under the rays of the sun, reminiscent of the rooms in my childhood house which was demolished in 1997 for urban development. even the smell of the air outdoors is as same as the smell of the air I breathed in Shanghai China when I was a kid Under 10 years of age. The architects of old houses made best use of natural sunlight, because back Then there was simply no electric lighting at all.

Perfect romantic Christmas getaway

It is a beautiful hotel, with exceptional service. A lovely setting for Christmas and we had a wonderful 3 nights and 2 days of comfort and relaxation. We did not need to leave the hotel. Perfect for romantic breaks and in a beautiful area.

This how wow factory when you pull up. Very beautiful and very well maintained. Once we pulled up though no one came to help us out with where to go for parking, even though three employees sat outside and saw us get out of our vehicle and look around. I was bothered that no one even tried to approach us to see if we were lost. Also, no bell hop to help us in with our luggage. The gentleman at the check-in counter ended up taking our bags after we checked in. Every five star hotel we’ve stayed at had this taken care of as soon as we stepped out of our vehicle. I have some medical issues that don’t go well with having to move heavy luggage. The room was okay, very plain, but it was clean. The shower door drove us crazy, it was a large sliding door and sounded like someone was scraping a chalkboard as you opened and shut it. I’m truly surprised the people in the surrounding rooms never complained of the noise. The restaurant was nice and had a good ambience, how ever the menu was very limited and getting something as simple as a bowl of good soup with some fresh bread was hard to find. What we did eat was very delicious, and seemed well prepared. Of course everything seemed a tad pricy, but we at least what we ate was good. Breakfast was basic, and had the essentials for getting you day started (fruit, breads, cold cereal, cheeses, meats, coffee from a machine and tea). Overall I liked our stay, but I would probably try a different place if we should go back.

OK but...

Where to start?
Firstly it is a lovely building in a pretty, rural setting. Downside of a rural setting this time of year is flies. They were plentiful and pesky and annoying.
The room was Hong Kong small and was in the roof void, so the small room was made even smaller by the angle of the roof. It had everything you would need however. Tip- avoid the room numbers that start with a 3.
Has a subterranean bar. You press a buzzer and the barman is supposed to come. That prove not to be a particularly reliable process, but once we chased around & got organised the cocktails were very well made.
It has a large restaurant. It is not at all cheap. The quality of the food does not live up to the tariff, with both our main courses subject to concerns both in terms of design and preparation. However we were introduced to wine from Luxembourg and very agreeable it was, and fairly priced.
Would I stay here again? Yes, but in the winter, in rooms not in the roof and I'd eat out.

The Chateau is beautifully restored and our family room was spacious and comfortable. Very limited privacy for bathing and showering etc (only a semi-see-through curtain between bather and the rest of the room) which may not suit all families. Pool was too small for such a luxurious hotel, and it was closed during our stay, which gravely disappointed our children (this was one of my main reasons for booking this hotel). Dinner was very pricey for a family of 4, and no 'casual' option on offer, so we went into local town to Bistro 1865, which was great. Feel like the Chateau is missing an opportunity there - we were very tired after a long journey and just wanted a relaxed, good value meal, but none was of offer. Limited transport options to the town meant we had to get back in the car after a 7 hour drive, to go out and eat!

When we arrived the pool and outdoor area were closed off for a wedding, but we were not informed of this in advance. It seems they had not informed anyone as there were a lot of upset people at check in. No alternative was offered. They checked us in to a room which was not made up when we got there, so all in all, check in took 1 hour until we were in a room (that was clean)! We made a dinner reservation at the restaurant, and when we arrived we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated! The service was shocking - our drinks arrived after the first course, dessert took 45 minutes, etc. The waiters all looked like they had never worked in a restaurant before. Overall, the place is nice and the food itself was good, but the service was some of the worst ever.

This would be a great hotel for someone driving to the location. We were on the train. This is a 4 star hotel without a shuttle service to the train station. We had to get to the bus station and then ride a bus to the hotel. We got there early afternoon and were originally told we would have to get a bus back to town for food. They did finally figure out something for us to eat there at the hotel. Very inconvenient for train riders. Left a bitter taste in our mouth for Luxembourg

This was going on arrival at around 16:00 and was sufficiently loud you could hear it in your room with the windows closed. No one was in the courtyard so it was just an annoying background disturbance in what would be a very quiet rural setting. We questioned reception about the noise but were told it would be turned off at 21:00 with no offer to turn it down. It was still going at 21:45 so we rang reception who turned it off immediately. Cannot imagine why they feel the need to play the music as the rural location is one of it's plus points. Another strange issue was what we thought was someone vacuuming the hallway outside our room around 17:30. This went on for ages and kept disturbing us and no doubt other guests by keep hitting our door. It turned out in was a robotic vacuum cleaner that spent at least 45 mins going up and down the hallway bumping into every door. Why on earth would a hotel consciously do this?

Beautiful hotel, fantastic receptionist

The hotel is comfortable but remote, the superior room was large and loved the bath in room. The shower was great but the glass screen was too small which allowed the water to flood the room. Good compliment of tea coffee although when we asked for more milk, had to collect ourselves from reception! We used the restaurant and although very expensive was very good, 40 euro for a two course meal was excessive. Fortunately a member of staff spoke English but my wife was frustrated that the menu did not explain correctly the ingredients of her main course. Our only issue relate to the bus that brought a group of visitors, it parked adjacent to the rooms and the driver started the vehicle at 6.30am, the fumes from the exhaust filled our room and the noise loading the bus disturbed us. Having paid 139 euros for bed and breakfast this was really not acceptable.
The bed was not as comfortable as one found in a premier inn!,
However, despite this, we would stay again

A hidden gem

Very relaxing stay in a spacious room for 2 adults and 2 teenage children. Very comfortable bed and the girls had a large sofa bed. Stunning bathroom with shower and stand alone bath although only separated from bedroom by a voile curtain. The spa pool and Jacuzzi were much appreciated as was the outdoor space on the terraces. Breakfast was a real smorgasbord with the smoked salmon and Cremant de Luxembourg to cap it off (although the fizz ran out very early one morning and wasn't replaced). It was a shame that the restaurant only served a set meal for 40€ or a single course for 30€ so we decided not to eat there in the evening. Another review mentions noise and we could hear the shower quite clearly from a neighbouring room as well as people talking early one morning but it wouldn't be a reason not to stay here. We would definitely hope to return.

Stopped over on the way to southern Germany. Hotel was superb. Fitted out to a very high spec. Great room, bath and shower. Beautiful courtyard to eat dinner, although premium priced. Pool was good for a quick dip but a little small. Would heartily recommend this hotel.

A big double deb made of two small beds

The room is not big, but clean and cozy. However, we ordered a double room with a big bed and the hotel provided a 'big bed' composed by two small beds with two small mattresses, which is extremely disappointing. It seems like this 4-star hotel is financially struggled to buy a real double bed.

Technical issues spoilt the stay

Checking both in and out hampered by computer issues which totally spoilt the stay this time
After a 10 drive getting there its unacceptable having to wait 40 minutes to get into the pre-booked room at 1630hrs
The pain could have been eased with a vcomplimentary drink which wSnt forthcoming although we were directed to the Barto wait for things to be sorted out.

Beautiful, and don’t miss the restaurant!

A large, very comfortable room overlooking the central courtyard made our stay a delightful one. However, the real star was the fabulous dinner we had here—melt-in-your-mouth lamb that was the best I have had anywhere in the world. I would return here for the restaurant alone, simply drive out of my way to have dinner. It was that delicious. All of the staff were efficient and friendly—an outstanding experience.

Beautiful quiet chateau in the countryside

My husband and I and our two kids had a lovely night at the Chateau d'Urspelt. We wished we could have stayed a few more days but we were just passing through. It was very quiet when we were there, which is just what we needed.

The Chateau is beautiful. The pool and jacuzzi are seasonal & unfortunately we were visiting in the off season so we were unable to enjoy one of the the features we were most looking forward to. Breakfast was amazing. The bathtub was divine. The pillows could be better. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Beautiful hotel in quiet rural location

Lovely hotel, great staff, fine dining.
The hotel was a little challenging to find as didn’t know the area but is close to small town of Clervaux.
The restaurant at the hotel offers a limited menu but the food and wine pairings are exquisite.
The rooms are comfortable and quiet which was just right for an overnight stop.
Would like to return in the summer.

Lovely hotel-castle

Very nice hotel, well restored castle, beautiful ambiance... Rooms are beautifully decorated (despite simple) and with big bathrooms. Very clean. Restaurant was serving descent food, however, on one of the evenings kitchen staff seemed not able to cope. Main courses were delayed by almost an hour, some tables were left to wait a lot longer than others, etc. During our stay the weather was beautiful, however, flies and wasps made dining outside impossible (it didn't seem that staff did anything about that issue). On the other hand, sitting inside the restaurant was also almost unbearable since there was no ventilation or airco (it wasn't on).
Breakfast was also not great, since there were hardly enough tables for all guests and the dining area was cramped. Again, no ventilation or airco on.
The pool area was a nice touch, however, there were not enough sun loungers for everyone, and the pool itself was simply a big jacuzzi. Nevertheless, we spent a couple of hours there.
Overall, a nice place to stay outside of towns or villages, large parking and good facilities. It could be a really nice experience, were it not for these small issues.

Beautiful hotel, beautiful location

So peaceful. The rooms were incredible. I wish we could have stayed longer. It's very quiet and in the country, with free (!) parking, and great food at the restaurant. Loved the bath products, and OMG, the bathtub? Can I just take it home with me.
