A fantastic gem of a property in a wonderful location. Great for a stop on our journey home from the South of France but it would be a super place to stay to explore the surrounding area.

Mixed feelings.
Lovely chateau, in quiet location. Lovely pool. Poor wine choice of good wine by the glass. Overall it lacked finesse.
Also, it was overshadowed by the owners dog, a great dame attacking ours unprovoked and unexpectedly. The owner didn’t even later check if our dog was fine. Apparently his dog doesn’t like small dogs! Would have been good to know this sooner as Priya was wondering around the reception and dining area.

Food at the restaurant was excellent, extremely high quality. All the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Our room was lovely, but we did have a problem with no hot water on our first morning that took about an hour to get sorted. Went to shower in the late afternoon and the same issue again. Checked with the front desk and an engineer couldn't get to sort it until after 6pm, as we were eating at 7pm we had to have cold showers.

We were planning on using the fitness room both days but it's a really small room and the equipment could do with servicing, so we only used it on one day. Bit of a disappointment that I'm sure can be sorted for the future.

The perfect relaxing stopover

Love this place, can't get enough of it. Came with my daughter on way to the Alps. Perfect location. Every time I stay here I get wonderful treatment from all the staff. The spa area is beautiful and so relaxing after a long journey. Dinner amazing as usual and to top it all we were yet again upgraded !! Roll on next trip.

The perfect retreat

Again we had the perfect time. Really feel spoilt at this wonderful Chateaux Hotel. Upgraded again to a beautiful junior suite T top of house. Perfect from start to finish. Amazing evening meal and breakfast. Looking forward to next stay.

Always a delight

This wonderful chateau hotel is a very favourite of ours. We were greeted with an upgrade before even asking! Hospitality was perfect. The evening food was delightful and the breakfast as usual was fantastic with champagne if you wished. Looking forward to next visit in a few days.

Lovely, cosy , welcoming, homely feel. Friendly helpful staff. Great for pet friendly stays. we only stayed overnight though en route so breakfast times not suitable for early departure . The restaurant has a lovely ambience, excellent service, also very good at accommodating allergen free requirements, but although beautiful presentation of food the price/expectation didn't match. Certainly no wow factor or something I couldn't do myself. Bed large and very comfortable but one pillow insufficient and no extra blanket for cold weather. Wore my fleece to bed.

The stay was pleasant but we were unlucky as room 10 is noisy as it was above the door to the swimming pool which shut with a large thud - so an afternoon nap was not possible. The rest of the stay was excellent with dinner being a highlight with the fabulous Clement who is the absolute the best in the world for cooking a Crêpes Suzette in front of the table - very very special and we’ve had many around the world!!!! Thanks Clement for an unforgettable experience!!!
Outdoor hot tubs were a bit tired and not quite hot enough with headrests missing, but the room was great with everything you needed.
All in all a good stay and a nice evening spent to break the journey back to Blighty!

As the author of the Hotel Marketing Bible, I have stayed in thousands of hotels. This one will make my list of favorites. It has lovely grounds, attentive staff, well-appointed rooms, and magnificent food. It was so nice I stayed an extra day, and I will no doubt return :)

Can't get any better !!!

I have visited Domaine de Barive quite a few times over the last few years and if I had to list the wonderful facilities the perfect staff the amazing rooms the dynamic food !!! there would never be a room available for me for my next visit. This place only gets better and my favourite room is ??? looking forward already to my next visit next week.

Overall great experience! We found that the reception staff was not as friendly or accommodating as they could have been. The breakfast buffet was very good. Our first night dinner was interesting, but the main course meat was overly fatty and uneatable. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Thank you

Absolutely loved this beautiful property. Wonderful staff, stunning grounds and the room was exceptionally well appointed. We travelled with our dog, who could run around in their enclosed garden. The food was also fantastic.

Third visit to this beautiful hotel. Each time gets better. Booked our usual de-luxe room and were upgraded to a wonderful junior suite! The food is dynamic and even a glass of champagne at breakfast if you so wish it which I did!!! 😁

Luxurious, welcoming and friendly

Absolutely wonderful stay, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Rooms were luxurious and comfortable, exceeding expectations. Delightful secluded setting.
Food was great - extraordinary menu with some spectacular touches. We loved the whole experience and will certainly return soon! Electric vehicle chargers a bonus!

Beautiful building , fairly remote ( but not a bad thing if you want some time away ) Bar / lounge area looked like someone had thrown an assortment of chairs / Sofas into the room ,
On the plus side the Evening meal and breakfast very good !
Our room felt a bit damp , and the carpet to to the upper floor had seen better Days ?
This hotel is very good , but needs a bit of TLC around the edges !!

Beautiful châteaux on first impression.

Amazing first impressions on arriving at the Château. Looks very grand and stylish however the interior does not match. The interior design and decoration was certainly not to our taste this is a personal and objective opinion. Not quite sure who thought all the plastic statues, multicoloured lights and corridors decorated with purple, red and black were a good idea! Unfortunately our room had a bath tucked away under a very low sloping ceiling so it was impossible to stand up in it making standing possible and cleaning difficult.
The style of the restaurant also doesn’t suit or match the chateau however it appears very popular. The meal was of course quite expensive as to be expected but relatively good value for the set menu. Service was very efficient and very friendly in the hotel and the restaurant. We had a huge amount of luggage and the receptionist organised the kitchen staff to help carry everything up two flights of stairs which was incredibly good service.
We would not choose to stay there again simply because of the design choices but others may love it!

Oppulence!

A beautiful setting with lovely grounds, spa and excellent restaurant. We did not try out the spa but the pool was very good. A drink on the terrace in front of the property with the swallows circling above us just set the scene for a wonderful meal. We tried both one of the set menus and the à la carte - both of which were very good. The set menu is definitely better value for money The cheese-board was amazing! The service was good too.

Touch and go...

Quality of food was great as were some of the staff - one was a bit standoffish with me for some reason...
Location is not great to explore - it's in the middle of the sticks and wi fi reception was virtually nil to very poor if you wanted to stay in touch. The rooms were nice though with a pleasant outdoor garden patio area. It was very peaceful.
We got double charged on our check out for the 2 rooms we had even though they were prepaid - it took me an email and follow up call to sort. Not a great experience and no apology - would have expected a better service from an establishment like this.

Luxurious overnight stay on the way back to Calais. The Château is amazing although possibly understaffed. Classic rooms don’t have a shower so the hotel kindly upgraded us to a superior room at no extra charge. The restaurant is first class however the staff don’t seem to be solver service trained. Expensive but good.

Relaxing Stay

It was a good relaxing stay. The room was clean and neat. Our main intention was to visit the Champagne region and have this as our base, but it was a bit of a drive and we wished we had stayed more closer to Champagne region. We felt the room service and other amenities were a bit over priced. Overall it was a good stay.

Nice hotel, good restaurant, poor service

A smart hotel, in an old chateau with a good restaurant but our stay was spoiled by many areas of poor service - waiting staff spilled drinks on us but did nothing about it, despite claims of a secure car park we were forced to park in open car park adjoining field and were charged 4 Euro for a drop of milk for a cup of tea!

Could have been good but a disappointing stay.

A Good Break on the way North or South

If you want to spend a night north of Reins in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere this is as good as it gets.
A professional and informed team that look after you and with an impressive wine list and excellent food.
The breakfast was marginally disappointing but that may have been our fault for not being more assertive.
We will cetainly return when it suits our travel plans.

Gorgeous quintessential French Chateau

This hotel was superb and a gorgeous setting. Food & wine was outstanding...the cheese board at the end is one of the most impressive that I have ever seen. Really friendly staff and if you are looking for the French Chateau setting - this is it.

Only caution, make sure that you have good directions as it is a little bit outside Sainte-Preuve and took us about 20-25 minutes to find it.

Wifi was a bit intermittent but I am now nit picking.

Great hotel and facilities

This hotel was a welcome stop en route to the Tunnel and surpassed our expectations. From the receptionist Stephanie (who helped find and telephone a local garage for our friends who had run out of fuel) to the restaurant, everyone had a friendly smile and greeting, to make us feel at home.
We had a very nice room 21, ground floor opening out onto a garden, with 2 loungers and a table outside with fencing to divide us form the adjoining rooms. The air conditioning was quiet and efficient, the shower was a walk in delight and the bathroom spacious.
We ate one of the fixed dinner menus, with wine chosen to complement the dishes, which was really good and with mainly red wines, including a sweet one.
The hotel has a rack of well maintained cycles for use by guests, which gave us a short circuit on the lanes around the area for 45 minutes, just what was needed after a day in the car.
All in all, thoroughly recommended.

Excellent meal

Fab swim in the pool, very friendly service, lovely welcome, efficient staff, very comfy bed. Excellent dinner and breakfast. However, it was a hot day and the air conditioning unit in the room wasn't installed properly, thus inefficient, leaving the room under the roof almost too hot to sleep in.
