Great stay, great location, great staff.

Excellent location in Laon. Husband and wife staff were extremely friendly and helpfull. We'd hoped to dine on site for our evening meal. Their restaurant was closed and they found us an alternative restaurant and made a dinner reservation for us. I was recovering from a cold and the owner prepared me a hot lemon honey and ginger drink to have before I went to bed. Even made me one the following morning. To some the hotel may feel dated, but out group of 8 loved the sense of history the hotel had. The building has heritage status and should I ever find myself back in Laon, I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely old hotel near the cathedrale. The owner was so nice, very welcoming and thoughtful. It is old and it could do with some tlc but I would stay here again. Its not ideal for families or anyone with mobility problems as it doesn't have a lift but we managed okay (onlt one flight of stairs) and it's clear when you book it you are staying in an old hotel which is part of its charm. Public parking just round the back if you don't make his onside garage in time. He charges 10 euro for parking if you do. Restaurant wasn't open when we were there so noting it's a small town with limited opening hours get there us time for dinner out! Options within a few minutes walk.

Medieval city on a hill

Friendly, clean, comfortable and easily accessible (by bus No 4 from gare. Stop at Gambetta) is how we would describe this hotel.
Within walking distance of the cathedral, art museum, Templers chapel, Port d’Ardon, and some very nice lookout points.
Nearby, there are many restaurants and bars. The hotel serves breakfast too.

Lots of character in a real old-fashioned French hotel, and the man in charge is lovely! Super helpful and charming. We were there just before New Year, and the restaurant was closed, but he gave us a good recommendation for another one. The room was enormous, bathroom also. Breakfast is typical continental style: adequate.

Charming, historic hotel and building right around the corner from the best of the Laon historic city center. Close to hotels, restaurants, and sites, including the Cathedral. Owner/manager and staff are terrific and English speaking. Good breakfast available at additional cost. Good dinner restaurant on site as well. Note: No elevator in this 3 story hotel. No AC. Large rooms and bathrooms. Poor WiFi. Laundry service available on-site.

Great location, adequate room, disappointing hotel

The hotel is in a great location and the room was great with 2 double beds and a single in the corner for our child. However it needs some urgent renovation as it is in a tired state with our door lock barely working, most of the decor looking old, and the service was 'tired' to say the least. I tried to get to our car after 10pm but no-one was around and the front door was locked..

This is a 17th century coach inn in a fascinating town well worth visiting. The staff were terrific and spoke excellent English. I especially appreciated their concern when I checked out and faced a walk to the train station in the rain. Instead, the day manager personally drove me without my asking. Where else would this happen? My only regret is that their restaurant was closed that day so I was unable to have dinner there, though there are many good restaurants nearby. The breakfast buffet was fresh and filling.

Central location in old part of Laon

Best feature was proximity to Cathedral. Was told that parking not available when booking through Expedia. Convenient street location was available. Small room on second floor but no lift. Unfortunately arrived about 9.45pm and kitchen already closed so no chance to comment on what looked like interesting menu. Room very dated but comfortable. Breakfast was better than average for a small French country town hotel.

We have stayed here a few times. The hotel is extremely old and guests sometimes forget this. It has true character and individuality.

Booked online and payed with paypal the night before but when we arrived we were told they didn't have our booking. Luckily I had booking ref to hand and it turned out they hadn't checked their bookings made overnight! And they only had 1 room left! Even though the website said parking available the hotel said they save the limited spaces for those who book direct with them. The room was adequate but a little musty. Breakfast and dinner was good and everyone friendly. Good position in old town to explore.

Old world charm

Hotel is old and most of it shows that. Has a certain amount of charm with wonky stairs and room, blankets rather than duvets, creaky floors etc. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed the stay. Restaurant food was good although the service was slow which mayhave been due to Easter Sunday.

Travelled to Laon for a short break with friends. The hotel is ideally situated in the old town. Car parking was tight but perhaps they have space elsewhere.The staff were friendly. Breakfast was perfectly adequate (9 euros). They opened the small bar for us each evening. The place was clean but has seen better days, as had the whole of Laon! The Cathedral was worth a visit and we ate in a couple of nice restaurants very near the Cathedral entrance.

Good Hotel 3 hours from Calais

Hotel de la Banniere is like the hotels that you used to stay in with your parents in the 1950's ( with modern facilities and comfortable beds!). Either you like it or you don't. We like it. We met a couple in the EXCELLENT hotel restaurant who have stopped off here each year for 30 years, this is only our 3rd so have a few visits to go. We intend to stop off here every year.

Staff are great, speak English. You can book secure parking. Book the restaurant when you arrive and come down early

The garage is awkward to get into and it is not clear which entrance to use. One was blocked by parked cars, the other you may have to cross a lane of traffic coming the same way as you, so beware. The garage is not lighted and has stuff lying around making it awkward to park, apart from not being able to see!
The staff are friendly and helpful, e.g. taking bags to our room. The room is superficially clean, but shelves below sitting level were filthy. We used wet tissues to clean them, and the grime was black, rather than 'clean' dust. The room and public areas are in need of redecoration - some wallpaper hanging off. The bed was small and uncomfortable and there was a smell of cooking in the room throughout our one night there.The whole hotel needs a good re-fit. We had a glass of wine in the bar on returning from dinner elsewhere. Service was good and friendly. We did not eat in the restaurant - the menu seemed expensive for Laon and the standard of hotel. Breakfast was a bit chaotic, not enough room or service for the number of people arriving when we did. Service was pleasant though and check out efficient. We seem to have paid the city tax twice - only €1 each, but it was supposed to be included in the original price.

Picked this hotel due to being the right distance back to Calais for us and being in the old town of Laon .Lady on reception was very friendly. We know the hotel is old but it is in need of replacing carpets, bathrooms, and some furnishing and decor. Bed was comfortable and clean. flooring and tiles in bathroom was disgusting. can't comment on food, didn't eat at the hotel.

A somewhat crumbling hotel reminiscent of a bygone, unlamented era. However staff were friendly, helpful and relaxed. Room decor (to use the term advisedly) was peculiar and unrestful unless vivid candy stripes and mismatched materials are your thing. View of the surrounding countryside possible only if one knelt on the window-cill - a pity in such a delightful hilltop town.

Old Charming French style hotel

This is a typical French hotel. Very charming and quaint, but it's in an old building and that is reflected in the rooms - its clean but quaint. We enjoyed it thoroughly but you have to like French hotels (as opposed to modern hotels). The restaurant was very good although a little eclectic (recommended). It's location in Laon is superb - its right on the edge of the old town and you can walk anywhere in a couple minutes. If only for the location, this is a recommended hotel.

We have stayed in Laon before as a handy last night stopover before coming back to the UK. Interesting old town, but the hotels are old and a bit creaky too. This one has the benefit of a good restaurant - we had a delicious Chateaubriand and a very good bottle of wine.

Nice hotel in a little French town on a hill

My two teenagers and I needed a room overnight on our way from England to Germany. I picked Laon for it's small town vibe and was very pleased to find this quaint little hotel in the middle of the historic town center with walking access to the cathedral and many little restaurants and shops. The building is from the 1600's and the rooms are not modern or fancy but the atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly. They accommodated us with three separate beds making this a very affordable stay.

Hotel full of character in a fascinating old town.

If you want the blandness of a chain hotel this one is not for you. If you like old coaching inns full of character, then you will enjoy this hotel. Several staff speak English and are very helpful, whilst the food is excellent. If you want parking, book it when you make your room booking, although there is free parking very close to the hotel.

Excellent Service and near Cathedral

The hotel is comfortable and clean, the décor a little tired (the shower head was choked with calcium deposits for example) but the rooms are spacious and well appointed, all with different colour themes, which look delightful. The service makes up for any losses in the décor. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was cheerful and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Highly recommended for a comfortable and quiet stay in a great location.

Olde Worlde hotel with excellent service

Stayed here en route in both directions and had excellent (set menu) dinner here too. Staff went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Interesting architectural details and old photographs in dining room. Very comfortable bed. Difficult to modernise hotel because it's a listed building. Car parking has to be pre-booked. Make time to visit the historic centre -- the cathedral is less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

You don't stay here for 21st century comfort. It's for a short stay or overnight stop and a good restaurant with people who know what they're doing. Our last visit was 25 years ago, not much has changed and it was very enjoyable.

Charming hotel with great service

The hotel is exactly what one would expect of a 3* French hotel in a small town; the rooms are clean, furnished with an eclectic mix of furniture, a better than average restaurant and with a charm that only the French seem to get right. What made this hotel stand out for me was the high standard of service from the staff, in particular Mor, who seemed to be everywhere at once and eager to help. In the 3 days we spend there he was incredibly helpful, from sorting out timetables, to booking champagne house tours, to recommending places to visit on a very rainy day.

Typically French hotels don't have tea and coffee facilities in the rooms and La Banniere is no different, but they do have a very prompt room service if you want a drink in the middle of the day.

The restaurant was very good, we only had one meal that wasn't particularly to our liking but that was down to personal taste not the food. The tasting menu's are good value for money in my opinion and the food was very good. They do have a very good wine list but don't be shy about asking for the house wine in a 25ml carafe; the red and white are both very good.

The hotel's own parking is a bit tight as it is in a rear courtyard, you need to be a confident driver to manoeuvre in and out especially when its full. Don't take a long estate car!

All in all a very pleasant stay and we will, go back.

Meget imødekommende personale. Søde og rare.
Hotellets værelser og adgang der til fremstår og er enormt slidt. Det er et gammelt hotel, og det ses tydeligt. Dørene til værelserne kunne næsten ikke låses. Det var gamle “kommodenøgler”og løse håndtag. Nusset og beskidt på værelset. Især under vinduerne hvor “væskesprøjt” var alle steder.
Badeværelset er umådelig småt. Wc’et stod løst og det var faktisk svært at komme til. Man skal ikke være højere end 175cm, så bliver man udfordret i siddende stilling.
Det samme er sig gældende i bruseren/badekar.
Morgenmad er 12euro pr mand. I forhold til udvalg havde den lokale bager og en pakke smør gjort det samme. Vi synes det var ærgerlige penge.

Il personale (composto durante il mio soggiorno da una sola persona) è stato gentile e disponibile, la camera pulita e ben tenuta e la colazione buona. Buon rapporto qualità prezzo: unica pecca il parcheggio a pagamento (7€), all'interno di un garage adiacente all'edificio.
