The room was clean , staff very nice and friendly. But the shower wasn’t pleasant at all. It was getting either so hot or so cold. We couldn’t enjoy the shower to get relaxed , a minute got very hot to the boiling point and a minute after got very cold.

It is a charming hotel, and we liked everything about it except for we two older people to have to lug our suitcases up the steps to the reception area was a tad difficult. It would be nice if someone at the front desk would have heard us and helped us. Otherwise a fabulous visit and stay.

There was an obvious deception regarding the elevators at the hotel. When we arrived, we had to climb 12 steps to the check-in desk. The most irritating part was that when we got to the desk, the woman at reception laughed about the fact that they hid the knowledge that there were steps to the check in. There are elevators to the upper floors, but that is a deceptive description.

Hotel is reasonably priced and in an excellent location for a visit to Zurich. Breakfast served is excellent with fresh pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt and boiled eggs cooked to order. Facilities are clean and staff is accommodating.
Rooms and bathrooms are small as to be expected in an historic facility. They are sparse with little decoration, adequate beds and very small televisions located far across the room. Check-in requires navigating a flight of stairs, but an elevator is available up from there.
Overall a good choice and value for a visit to the heart of Zurich

Great location! Walking distance to every spot we could imagine. Lots of restaurants and shops around the hotel + turist attractions. They also had a \"doggy\" roof top where people bring their dogs, have a beer or cocktail and enjoy. We were very pleased!

Central to everything. Walk anywhere. No air conditioning but weather was great. Hotel provides a fan. But slept with the window wide open and it was fine. I didn’t mind. Perfectly safe to do so. To access the main lobby, you have to climb a full flight of stairs with your luggage. I also did not mind. But some may have an issue with it. I would certainly stay there again.

(shame we could not eat at any of them as Switzerland is so expensive and our aussie dollar makes it even worse. not that this is the hotels fault of course). our room was very basic but we only stayed for 2 nights so you make do.

Quaint Hotel in the Middle of Everything…but…

This is a quaint hotel right on the street in the middle of everything in Old Town (oldest hotel in Zurich). But with that comes a few things to be aware of: 20 stairs to climb to get to the lobby. Tough with big luggage. 2. No air conditioning, just a table top fan. Beware if you go in the hot season. 3. Room is very small (#502). I know there are some big rooms ( ones ending in “1”), but we didn’t have it. All things considered, nice place to stay for only one or two nights.

The location of the hotel is nice. However, the price of the rooms does not reflect the hostel-like environment of the property. Felt like I was in a cheap dorm room with minimal amenities. Also did not feel very secure as the front desk where our keys for the rooms were stored was often unattended and easily accessible.

Convenient location - very close to both the lake and the train station, right in the heart of the Old town. Two things to keep in mind - there is a flight of 20 stairs before you reach the elevator level - which is an issue with suitcases; since it faces the main square where a lot is happening during the summer - it is extermely noist until 2 am - I suspect this may not be an issue outside of te summer season. Very clean.

The hotel was fine and the people were friendly. My ratings are based on the lack of air conditioning. It was really really hot and sleeping was difficult even with a fan. It was an unusual heat wave but if you are going to Zurich in the summer just keep in mind that this hotel is not air conditioned.

This hotel is in an excellent location which is the center of the old town. There is a lot of restaurants around. One main problem is that the hotel does not have air-conditioning. This is challenging in the summer. The sink is too small. The shower area is also very small. This condition may or may not be compatible to the price of the hotel since I did not compare it with other nearby hotels. Therefore, I recommend you compare nearby hotels in terms of room size and air-conditioning when making a reservation

We really liked the location of this property. Great restaurants and very walkable. But the hotel is above a restaurant and without AC windows opened leads to a lot of noises of dishes and setting up of chairs and tables. Make sure you get a fan. But, again, for the price the location is excellent.

So VERY conveniently located. The building which was 600 years old was full of history! It even had a well in the cellar that was still functioning! So, the hotel itself is very plain, nothing fancy. The rooms are functional but not at all up to what I would consider 'standard' based on North American standards. The hotel is located in the heart of the entertainment district and as there isn't any air conditioning, the nightlife kept us up until well past our normal 'bed time'. So, future guests should be aware of this. If you like to party, this location is perfect for you.

Zurich is an expensive city, so you don’t get as much there as you would in Germany.

Reception on level 2 with stairway. We have heavy luggage thus quite tough to get up there. Staff friendly. As the hotel is surrounded by eateries, noise inevitable. Night was noisy by restaurants patrons, and transparent noises from hotel guests check in and out etc, thus could have a peaceful night of sleep. Only plus point is good location near train station.

Very basic hotel for short stay.

It's not a hotel for long stays. The rooms are small and have only very basic amenities such as a bed, a small TV on the wall, a kettle, and a very small wardrobe. That's all. However, all the reception staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay of more than 1-3 nights. It is suitable for a short business trip, but nothing more.

The staff at this property were great! Very accomodating and kind. I was able to get into my room after a 7 hour flight at 9 AM instead of waiting till 2 PM, which was a huge help. The room was cozy and exactly what I needed. Location is great, right in the middle of Old Town and near a ton of great dining options. The umbrellas in the lobby were a huge help when it poured my second day. I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but I heard good things about it. Would def stay here again!

The Hotel is in a great area and the staff are very nice. The reason for the low rating is the shower. When taking a shower every minute or so the temperature will change to nearly boiling, last about 5 seconds and then return to normal. Overall it is a smaller hotel room in a great area. If your plan is to visit Zurich and don't need much more than a clean bed and simple room then this is a great option.

This was my first time Switzerland!! I decided to stay in Zurich and i stayed in old town Zurich where this historical hotel is located. The room was a good size very clean and a comfortable bed!! We went during the holidays and were surprised to see a Small Christmas market outside. The location was perfect!!!! Felt safe walking around at night with my young daughter after sightseeing or coming back from the train station which is only 15 minutes away walking. The area looked like a fairytale. Just beautiful. Staff was very friendly.

The hot water barely worked for my shower despite waiting 25 minutes for it to get warm. The heating system went out completely the second night and on the second day the kettle plug to the wall separated due to it being old and poor quality and I got zapped and had to go to the doctor for a check. A bit of a nuisance that you had to leave key at front desk every time you left the hotel and ask for it every time you went back to your room. Don't know if that is done for security reasons but I felt like I was bothering the front desk. At other places, we got the standard plastic cards and could come and go as we pleased.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Hirschen. Right in the heart of Zurich, you can walk anywhere and even walk from the Train Station (Zurich HB) to the hotel. There are so many restaurants and shopping around the hotel. The staff was always so kind and very welcoming. The highlight of this place was the cute dogs always around reception. Chloe and Hector really made our stay at Hotel Hirschen so much more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Pros:
- good location

Cons:
- room is tiny, did not match the photos
- very old rooms
- room was not cleaned properly beforehand. There were still things from the previous occupants in the room (dirty wash cloths)
- very loud building, not loud street noise
- the reception plays music from the lobby which is very loud as it echos throughout the buildings. It sounds like banging and furniture moving from above within our room. At investigating, we found it was the music and we ask her to turn it off. This ruined the entire first night staying there. Could not sleep without ear plugs as a result. The lack of self awareness that maybe it’s not a good idea to play music that can be herd throughout the building is amazing. Really ruined the first night at over $220/night. It hurts. Terrible night sleep as a result.

The hotel is an easy walk from the main train station. While the room is a bit small, it was immaculate and had great WiFi, a good breakfast (included) and the staff were very friendly. Nice neighborhood for dining and drinks. All in all a good 'home away from home' in Zürich!

This is a really lovely, simple hotel, in the heart of Zürich's old town. It took me about 10 minutes to walk there from the main station.

The room was perfectly clean, and comfortable. I booked a small room, which had an en-suite, double bed, wardrobe and table and chairs, but I can't comment on the larger rooms and suites.

Breakfast was simple, but nice. Pastries, bread, some muesli (of course), fruit, yoghurt, salami, cheese, and eggs you could boil up in their little machine. What more do you really need? (obviously there was coffee and tea too)

I've stayed in 3 Hotels in Zürich now, and this is the one I'll be using again, as it has the right balance between price and comfort.

The staff are lovely and helpful.

Beautiful old building. 10 minute walk from the station. Room was on the small side but perfectly adequate. The bed was comfortable and the shower was excellent with good pressure and very warm. We ordered breakfast for our last day and the food was of a good standard. Lots of choice for dining in the area.

The staff at this hotel were incredibly helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and the basement wine cellar is a great feature.

The only downside to this property was that there were about 10 stairs from the ground level up to reception. From there, there is an elevator, but it was a little harder for my father to get around than we realized.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the area was quiet at night, but close to the main train station and lots of shopping and restaurants.

Conveniently located on a square so easy access to restaurants, sites, and transportation. With that being said, there was a 10 piece orchestra playing until later in the evening. There was no AC so lots of noise (you could hear people talking late at night even with the window closed.
More importantly, there was no hot water in the mornings, so if you want to shower later than 7:30 or 8 am - it will be cool water at best. When we told this to the front desk - their reply was - yes, the hotel is full, you’ll need to shower in the evening.
The room was strangely decorated as well, which just added to the oddity of it all.

Fantastic spot in the heart of the Altstadt. Multiple restaurants and cafes and bars right outside the front door. Cute and quirky inside—feels a little like living in a dolls house with the windows being very low to the floor, but I found it charming. Being in the middle of the old town the neighborhood noise can be loud with the early morning street cleaners, deliveries to all the restaurants, garbage collectors etc. so if that is a concern, pack ear plugs. Otherwise it’s a wonderful spot, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is very easy to access with public transit.
