When I arrived the desk clerk ignored me, he was shuffling papers, saw me and offered no greeting. I greeted him and put my passport on the counter. He said just a minute and continued with his paperwork. When he finally acknowledged me he told me he did not have my reservation. I told him I made it through Expedia. He said, \"We are not Expedia.\" I said, \"No but you are the Zar Hotel Colima. You are on Expedia and that is how I booked my reservation.\" He then found the reservation. The room was OK for a side of the highway hotel. We had two beds and were given two towels. No hand towel. The parking is ample and the grounds are lovely. There is a sweet little pool around back too. The hitel has no good service at night and there is nothing in walking distance. We had not esten since morning so we ordered food from Uber around 6:45 pm and it was delivered promptly. The hotel is very convenient for people traveling from Guadalajara or Ciudad Guzman and going through Colima as it's right on the side of the highway at the northern entrance to Colima so there is no need to actually enter Colima city streets. They seemed to be serving some sort of a light continental breakfast in the morning, but we didn't bother with it. We just got back on the road and headed for the beach.

They don’t have hot water for shower especially after 8 PM.. and the last night we don’t have any power and obviously the AC wasn’t working. When we want to ask the front desk, they say they don’t have power . but the point is why they do have a power . member of my family, was in the other room and they don’t have a hot water either.

The grounds are beautiful, and the swimming pool area is very secluded and well landscaped. The hotel is under major renovation, and it is looking pretty good. The breakfast lady is very kind and friendly, and the food is just OK. The front desk staff tends to be indifferent, and not very friendly. I have stayed here before, and there always seems to be an issue with turning the television on and using the control. It has been this way for a year. Overall, I would give this hotel, a good rating, and I will definitely stay here again.

I was extremely dissatisfied with the hotel. The room was dirty. I had to request new bath towels as they were filthy when I checked in and observed to be used. The hotel has no hand towels and they only provide 2 towels per room. They also have no irons or ironing boards. I would never stay here again and only did so as it was suggested in the event invite we received. The alleged included breakfast in their website is false as we had to pay 100 pesos which is not much but the food was trash. They pretty much only served refried beans and bread and lucky if you get a cup of coffee or juice as they charge you first and then you serve yourself whatever food is left.

I stayed here before and it’s really gone downhill. The rooms have broken fixtures and in general are looking very run down. I say rooms because I moved rooms multiple times due to issues - leaking AC unit flooding the room and the next room smelling like smoke. My family had two rooms so in total I saw 4 rooms each with problems. In addition to the problems the evening man on staff was rude and unacommidating. Each room only had two (very rough and old) bath towels (no hand towels). When we asked for more he seemed offended and questioned how many guests we had. I will say the cleaning staff did a good job each day but be aware they don’t listed to the do no disturb sign - they come to clean regardless. Last complaint was that I stayed one week and every day had to get my keys reactivated. I’ve worked in a hotel. That’s not normal.

The staff was lovely, the wifi worked great. But the shower in our room was a weird old gross built-in that I could not use. We only stayed one night and already moved rooms once (to switch from 2 doubles to a King bed) so I just decided to forgo my shower.

Bad points
Internet is very poor and doesn't work on 3rd floor.
When my wife reported this to front desk. The reply was we know Internet doesn't work on floors 2 and 3. If this is the case why not improve the internet by installing routers on each floor?
If you need Internet then go else where.

El hotel en general está aceptable solo hay detalles que no me agradaron, a las instalaciones les falta mantenimiento por ejemplo la regadera que contaba con opciones configurables pero no servía pues todos los botones estaban rotos. También pedí una plancha y casi quemó mi traje porque la base ya estaba muy mal y con plástico quemado. Y en la mañana siguiente la recamarista abre la puerta para entrar para revisar si aún seguíamos ahí, lo cual se me hizo muy mal pues podría revisar en recepción o tocar y esperar a que se le abra no meterse y ya que las habitaciones no cuentan con teléfono tampoco te pueden marcar ni se puede llamar a recepción por lo que cualquier otra cosa que necesites hay que bajar al lobby. No cuenta con restaurante, solo sirven desayunos hasta las 11 a.m.

The registration was bad, they did not find the reservation, they had to communicate with expedia to ask for help in the location of the reservation and the whole procedure lasted more than 90 minutes that I had to wait.

The fourth did not have a hand towel and upon request they limited themselves to pointing out that they did not handle this service.

The hotel had breakfast included and was never informed of the same, I noticed this situation when leaving the room.

I was thrilled that the own owner or manager was very attentive and had one of the best customer service experiences. The engineer personally helped (I'm under the assumption he was the owner or manager\", I was greeted with respect and also noticed that the hotel had business events both nights that I was there, to me that really speaks highly of this hotel establishment and the way it is managed! If I had one thing to change to make the experience better, it would be to update the showers (maybe not something too fancy but in well working condition).

My wife and I wanted a place close to the airport for a couple of nights. The check-in was easy and the room was very nice and modern looking. I did get a little \"attitude\" when I asked for another towel. (The room had 1 hand towel and one bath towel only so I asked for a 2nd bath towel). There was no coffee as described. If there was, it was not mentioned to us. We had to cross the busy highway to the OXXO (like a 7-11) if we wanted coffee or snacks. Also, there was a daily breakfast the apparently we were not eligible for because we booked through hotels.com. Overall it was a nice place to say.

Hotel is located just outside of the town right off the highway. No restaurants near by have to go to town about 5 minutes away.. has a nice pool area but didn't use, wasn't too noisy but room was away from highway. Lots of parking with security.

The hotel is hard to find, front desk lady not friendly. Theres not elevator! Not telephone in the room, room key did not work couple of times.... Bed was really hard. pool was ok. You must have a car if you want to go out of the hotel. 10 min away from city.

The only thing they need to offer is ice, is not safe going to kiosko(convenient store) late because you have to cross the highway to get it.

Most important: The description on Hoteles.com in not correct -the hotel has no restaurant!!! They serve breakfast only - and the most worse I had in my life ever: 2 slices of toast, butter, marmalade, 1 juice, coffee or tea. The hotel is situated in the middle of nowhere. You need a car to find a restaurant.

We love Zar Colima

We just finished our 2nd stay at Zar Colima in 6 months. The rooms have great personalized air conditioners (a must for Colima, Mx) and for $35 USD a night, you can't really beat it.
The continental breakfast consists only of 2 pieces of toast, juice and coffee (FYI), and they will make you other things at extra costs, but I would just skip it and find a taco stand in town.
Even though we had the DO NOT DISTURB sign on our door, a maid tried to enter when she thought we had left. So, make sure you hide or take your valuables with you when you go. We have never had anything taken or tampered with at ZAR, but you never know...
The rooms are very clean, except for a baseboard corner, here or there. Some rooms have microwaves and small refrigerators, although ours did not. You must have to request them...
Zar is right on the edge of town, near the interstate and airport and we will soon be back!

The hotel was clean and modern. However, there were several shortcomings. First, there were no hand towels. The receptionist confirmed that they do not provide hand towels when I made an inquiry. Second, I was informed that the free continental breakfast did not apply to my five-year-old son. Regarding the breakfast, the coffee was good but the continental breakfast was limited to coffee, orange juice that was akin to Tang, and two pieces of white toast with margarine and jelly.

They address any issues with promptness and courtesy. It is like having a second family away from home. We have stayed at every major hotel in Colima and for value, convienence, and quality there is no better hotel in Colima than the Zar. Thank you to every one at the Zar who makes us feel so welcome.

If you were travelling by car it is a great place to stay..We loved the hotel, the staff were great and we loved the pool and garden area. .we only spent 2 nights and we would have been much happier if we were in central Colima as we didn't have easy access to restaurants unless we took a taxi to central Colima. It was not too far by taxi but just inconvenient.

excellent value. loved the hotel and the room. Had a bit of trouble registering at the desk. did not understand that we had paid for hotel when we booked on the internet. would only take cash. this meant that we paid for the room twice. once with credit card on the internet and once with cash. since we did not get a cash receipt we will have to return to the hotel and request a receipt unless you can have one e-mailed to me. love the art work and the décor. will definitely return and recommend it to friends. thank you

The hotel is funky and unexpected. It is a little more \"boutique\" than the norm.
The decor is cool, the TV's are flatscreen and they had a good selection of English
and Spanish Satellite chanels. The staff is lovely and willing to please.
It was a pleasant surprise. Good linen on the beds, air conditioners worked well.

i was very surprised to find a hotel of this quality.Extremely cleaned, well kept. no noise around the hotel. The staff was pleasant. The only thing i will suggest is : to install phones inthe rooms and my staying would be rounded off perfect.
Another suggestion: add a continental breakfast to be more atractive to tourists. we liked that. Thank you.

This hotel is situated outside historic colima, about a 10-15 minute drive. It is a modern looking and deceiving hotel. I was dissapointed that it had no hot water in the shower, the water was freezing and I did not feel comfortable. In addition, the staff is not well coordinated, I asked for a simple wake up call and it never happened. I do not recomment the breakfast there, since it is not good. There are many other ammenities that are not include in its rooms that would be considered standard in other hotels (i.e. coffee maker, iron, hair dryer, telephone, reliable internet to name a few) I should have stayed at the Fiesta Inn in Colima instead of this place. Good luck!
