The room was relatively clean upon entry. I did not choose to have my room cleaned during my few days stay. Showers are available 24 /7. Complimentary hot water and cold drinking water in a small but workable kitchen..pots, a few bowls, common area fridge and small room fridge. Laundry on site. Spa with a few hours of access each day. Located right next to a train station. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the dryer didn't dry all my clothes after 80 minutes and i asked for a complimentary coin to finish the drying of 1 pants, and a few smaller items. The non-regular manager was there and refused.

The pros to this property is the proximity to public transportation and the staff is nice. The cons are EVERYTHING. This “hotel” is absolutely filthy and ran down. The so-called kitchen hasn’t been clean since Bill Clinton was president of the USA, the flooring is broken and also hasn’t been cleaned in decades. The bathrooms are disgusting like one would not believe.
I give two stars for the eco aspect of my stay because the property seems to do its best to conserve water by not cleaning anything on a regular basis.
I recommend those considering this property to at a little more for an actual hotel, not a trashed out dated building. The Sun Plaza two doors over is a much better value for the money.
I don’t know how Hotel Taiyo passes any health inspections.

The staff are very nice, you can tell they are trying their best but the hotel is too run down. However the building is super old and gross. This is a cheap hotel so I wasn’t expecting much but it was way too dirty and old. Mold in the air conditioning unit and drunk men in the hallway puking late at night. I got a bunch of bug bites while I was there too. It is very close to the train station but I wouldn’t stay here unless you are broke and desperate.

The hotel room had stains on the wall and a tiny pillow that wasn’t greatly comfortable to use. The area is really good around it with immediate access to the subway line, and the free onsen is a nice plus, it is just the cleanliness thats the biggest issue I have. It’s good for what it is and especially the for the price.

The only nice thing about this place is its proximity to the metro so you can find the next hotel.

Found a cockroach in the room. You can hear everything going on in every room on your floor. The floors are nasty.

cheap and that’s what you get.

Excellent price compared to other places but if you’re not on a very tight budget I’d suggest staying elsewhere. The room was functional but everything had a poor cleanliness level. Bathrooms were a good bit of walk through the corridor and it was always very cold. Location was close to everything and if you stay in that area it’s worth going to Spaworld for an onsen experience.

This is a hostel that is calling itself a hotel. There was no shower in the room. The community showers were gross. We opted to shower at a nearby onsen instead. I had to unplug the tv to charge my cellphone bc there were no power outlets.

The location is good to transit many iconic locations by train. However I didn't find the room pleasant. The wooden furniture were chipped, small fridge exposed dusty wires, walls not even sound proof and was given a pillow made of beads to sleep.

The property was so filthy. I had to sleep with the lights on. This place was disgusting. The toilet had layers of filth. The bedroom floor felt like it would break at any minute. The most disgusting hotel I experienced in all of Japan. I was not expecting such an awful experience while visiting this country. Spend the extra money for a better experience. I spent $10 more and got a much better room.

I was taken back at how different the hotel appeared compared to the photos. It was easy to find especially if you are traveling by train as it is walking distance from the train station. The staff weren’t mean at all. Inside the hotel there is a subtle moldy smell. The room smells just as bad, but the worst part was the bed. The beds are uncomfortable to sleep on and the sheets are stained although it appeared to be washed. The bathrooms are shared amongst everyone on your floor and also looked very shabby. I’m not the type of person to complain either. I laid on the brick hard bed but staying awake, I couldn’t take it anymore. I got up at 4am, returned my key and walked out to look for another stay. Sadly I didn’t get my refund even tho they were very dishonest with how they advertised it. I managed to find a capsule hotel that was 10x better and only $10-$20 more per night. If I can’t even sleep there then what am I paying for? A charity hotel?

This is a perfect place for real backpackers and is the most affordable option in osaka. I can’t believe the negative reviews. Who pays so little and then writes a bad review for this place. It came with everything a person needs for an affordable price. Shampoo soap towels private showers sheets pillow and privacy many hotels dont even have these things. For the price id say 10/10

1. Requested non smoking and yet were placed directly beside a smoking area, so our room stunk. We literally had to go buy air fresheners to make our room marginally comfortable to breathe in.
2. Amenities were so I credibly dirty. Shocked at the condition of the bathroom and shower area.
3. The beds were unbelievably uncomfortable. I've slept fine on futons before, this was the thinnest mattress I've ever seen. It was also stained with who knows what.

The worst hotel I ever been to

1. The hotel was extremely dirty, the room walls had a lot of stains and it smell very bad, I had to buy an air freshener, the bathroom smell was horrible, and the shower room had a lot of fungus
2. I found insects on my room, when I told the staff about that so that they fumigate, they only gave me an insecticide for me to do it on my own.
3. Some Horrible staff, specially the woman, one day while I was sleeping she started knocking on my door very loudly and I woke up, she said that I had to leave the hotel, when I show her that I still had one night left she barely said sorry and then she walked away

The property itself is fairly nice. My room was small but clean. Uses keys instead of electric locks, which I wasn’t big on. However the hotel itself is quite safe. Has 3 showers on the first floor available at anytime, so long as no one is using it.plus a bath which is designated for specific times. Great stay if you’re solo. The area around is fairly convenient with a station and restaurants nearby. However the streets are dirty, and the vibe is so so. For the price though it’s worth it. I would definitely stay again

Would have considered this stay cheap and cheerful, however the facilities were dirty. The floors in the room were dusty and the showers were covered in mould. We paid for the with toilet option (does not include shower) and there was no soap in the bathroom. While the sheets appeared clean there were stains you could see on the mattress underneath. I think if the place were clean, I would have felt that it was good value.

The location is very central, which makes for easy access to Namba station and Dotombori. The hotel needs a lot of work and cleaning, there is dust and mold everywhere. BYO blanket and pillow, as the ones provided are disgusting and uncomfortable.
Staff were friendly and helpful, and we appreciated their Osaka tips.

I'll preface this with the fact that this place is really cheap as well as close to a station. I'm ok with cheaper places, but the overall cleanliness and condition of the place left much to be desired.

Stayed in a Japanese style room which was pretty bare bones which I didn't mind as I only needed the room for sleep. The room was overall clean enough, only complaint were the futons which probably need replacing as they were both stained and thin (side sleepers opt for a room with a bed)

Shower/bath spaces are shared, the bath spaces are public, so there are separate time slots for men/women I did not try the bath, but the shower rooms I found were also dirty.

To reiterate, place is very cheap, but facilities match that price point. If cleanliness is high on the scale of important things to you, maybe stay elsewhere. For all else who can look past that, this place does get the job done.

I liked that the property was right next to the train station.

What I didn’t like is that my room became absolutely freezing at night to the point where I started wearing my thermal clothing that I only wear when I go skiing, I also didn’t like how I found hairs from some stranger on my bed or how my non smoking room reeked of cigarette smell.

Overall my experience was not good at all but it makes sense for the cheap price, you get what you pay for.

If you're looking for a sterile, top-notch experience, keep looking; if you don't mind a little extra 'character' and grunge, this place will work fine. It smelled like second-hand smoke despite being a non-smoking hotel, and the walls were pretty dirty. But the sheets and floors and bathroom were clean, and everything worked fine. There is a bit of noise from out in the hallway (doors opening and closing), and from our room we could also hear the nearby trains coming and going from busy Shin-Imamiya (but hey, that's how *close* it is!). This is our second time staying here, so obviously we've found the excellent price, convenient location, useful facilities, and helpful staff more important than any negatives. And they've definitely improved their internet from the first time we came (a year and a half ago), so well done, Taiyo!

- location - very close to subway station (dobutsuen-mae station);Tennoji station and airport bus limousine - abenobashi bus stop from Osaka (ITAMI) airport; restaurants, convenience store (7 eleven, family mart, and Lawson are all within reach, and of course shopping malls.
- staff - very helpful though some are non-english speakers but they're trying to help in as much as they can.
- good internet access in all floors.
- Coin operated laundry services.
- Vending machines for a quick drink.
- fully air-conditioned (can be switched as heaters during cold season)
- has small fridge - Good!
- this hotel is good if you only need a place to sleep, take a bath, and a hotel base whilst you're travelling around major cities in japan. Tip: Osaka is the best city base as its location is in the middle of Japan. Very close to Kyoto, Kobe, And Narra prefectures.
Dislikes:
- property needs total upgrade
- basic chair, table, mirror, kettle (for a coffee/tea) in rooms rather than going down to get hot water.
- no daily cleaning services. Though can be pre-arranged a day before.
- laundry room too dusty. Dryers need daily cleaning of filters as it affect wet clothes when drying.
- rooms not noise- proof. Can hear noise and banging doors which can be annoying!
- no cable satellite in TV nor english channel.
- quite small room for a single occupancy. If you've two big luggages it may occupy most of the space in the room.

We only stayed in the hotel at night to sleep. Basically, if you need a cheap place to stay for the night and just rest, this hotel will do. Please do not expect too much in terms of hotel room size.
The common bath (onsen type) have schedules for men and women. We were not able to use this as the cut-off time for women is at midnight, and we arrived at the hotel 30 mins before midnight. The bath was not that clean as well compare to other bath houses that we went to, but with the fees that we paid, it is acceptable already.
One good thing is that this hotel has front desk staff 24 hours that's why we can go out as early as 5 am to leave our room key and come back almost midnight.
It is not one of the cleanest hotel that I've been to but for budget travellers who will not stay in the hotel for more than 8 hours, this is an ok place.
P.S. Most hotels in Osaka are pricey. The deal we had for this hotel was a vacation package from expedia and it saved us a lot for both hotel and flight.

Very convenient to Tennoji Station, the hotel is situated on a very busy big street and is also about 50 feet from the subway station
Midousuji-sen, the station name is Doubutsuenmae, exit 1, if I remember correctly. There are exit 1 and 2. As a budget traveler,
it's very affordable, safe and convenient. It's a dorm style accommodation. Recent renovations around this Abeno area made the location cleaner.

Hotel is situated near the subway station and is very accessing to convenience stores. I was able to book a solo room and though it may not be the best, it was comfortable. You have your own A/C unit and small ref. Hotel can be tidier but the staff was friendly. Showers are communal but are separated by a small room. You can also choose to cook your own food as they have a shared kitchen.

Great low budget hotel with the best location

At first I was worried about the public bathroom and shower, but the way shower rooms are made and how every floor has couple toilets, it did not feel public at all. The place offers great amenities, yukata rental was super comfortable! Sauna was relaxing and public common room also pleasent.
Location could not be more perfect, seriously. One line straight from the airport by train, and straight lines to Namba, walking distance to shopping malls in Tennoji area. One day we walked from Namba to hostel and it was nice sightseeing. Also had to change train only ones when going to Osaka Universal Studio and changing is super easy.
Could not hear any noices from other rooms and did not have anyone bothering us.

Don Quijote, 24 hours store is really near (2 minutes walk?) and there is near downtown area with bars, all with english menus.

Only minus I experienced was the dustiness of the room, but it was still clean! (No hairs, trash or other found from previous guests) so if you have astma or huge allergic reactions to feathers (the blanket had feathers) than maybe contact the hostel for possible other sheets/blanket. But cleaning is also offered when asked, we just never got up so early that we could have the cleaning (when room is cleaned you need to leave the room until 10am)

If you like to spent your days outside of the hotel, and come back to quiet hotel, take a sauna and enjoy cold beer in common area while possibly making new friends. I recommend Hotel Taiyo for you.

Clean and helpful staff. The location is great and it is safe (contrary to what other reviewers have said). The price is good for what you get.

As others have said there is a strong smell in the toilet rooms, even though they are clean.

However, that would not keep us from going there again. So we do recommend it, especially if you’re on a low budget.

Showers available on 1st,2nd and 3rd floor only. Toilets are quite smelly maybe due to the amount of people using. Toilets are mix which maybe a minus for some people. Twin room quite OK with two futons side by side. Luggage space provided so you can checkout early and later take your luggage so can save few bucks on locker.

Want a cheap night? This place is good.

Dobutsuenmae is notoriously a bad part of Osaka which is why the hotel is cheap. The service is fantastic with check in being anytime you like (after 2 pm). The hotel could use some upgrades to make it feel a little nicer. The only thing not so good is the bed / futon. The futon is tolerable, but the pillows are no good. They are basically the beads in pillows with a pillow cover and pillow case on it. The room for the price was great with temperature control being fantastic. It is next to a subway and train station. Because of the neighborhood, only stay here if you just need a place to sleep for one night and don't bring to much. When you are in the hotel, it is fine. Dobutsuenmae has many homeless people and is within walking distance of the red light district. Families and children are not recommended. The shower was really good as well as the public bath.

The comfiest bed we have had in Japan.

A comfortable bed with real actual pillows! And our own bathroom with a shower in it! The room is pretty small, but so is everything in Japan so that's expected. Nice hotel for a decent price. And great neighborhood.

Great for a cheap night!

I needed a night in Osaka to visit some friends. My bus fare is usually 4900 yen, so I wanted something cheap. The room had a bed, a TV and a fridge. The bathrooms were shared, but there were enough toilets per floor. There were also showers on 2 of the floors and a public bath (separate times for men and women) on the first floor. Check in is any time. There is someone at the desk 24/7.

Great location and good price for budget travellers....the facility was very good considering it's an old hotel...it has everything and your can even cook meals in the kitchen /cafe area

Not bad for a short stay

I felt the hotel itself and the staff was nice. However, what made my personal experience bad was the other people staying at the hotel. They obviously would break hotel rules by smoking in the bathrooms when there are signs everywhere saying no smoking! There was also a time where someone urinated all over the bathroom and not in the toilet itself. There was also a south asian family that would talk and yell out in the halls and bang on each others rooms rather than talk on their own rooms. This was usually late at night. If there weren't such hapoenings and such people, I honestly feel I would have felt more comfortable here so it's very unfortunate. I don't know if I'd recommend if or not due to those reasons..but then again based on the price I'd say it's still a great deal.

The shared bathrooms at second floor is nice

The location is great, just one stop from Namba, just opposite Subway. The negative point is they don't have private bathroom with toilet, only private toilet available. It has only a few bathrooms for all the guests to share. The blanket cover they used is not the real cover, they used bed cover to replace blanket cover, it's weird, and we not feeling comfortable with that.
