We absolutely love this place. It's our second visit and we would stay again. The rooms/apartments are fabulous, the restaurant is delicious and reasonable, the staff is wonderful, the room cleaners do an excellent job and we love the location!

Relaid il Cannilichio is in a wonderful position, we reigned after a previous excellent visit. Things were not the same. With the exception of Simone service was average and at times rude. The menu in the restaurant didn’t change, we only found one option we enjoyed. The worst thing was that the shower was malfunctioning and floode the bathroom. Despite reporting this it happened again! Soaking everything including our laundry. At this point we decided to cut our stay short.

Great property, wonderful view from the terrace!
Breakfast has lots of options with eggs, bacon, pastries, cold cuts, fruit and vegetables, jams, etc.

Just a friendly side note for the F&B manager of the property, it's very dissapointing to overhear the \"stories'\" about \"how stupid some guests are\" from the staff sharing them in the kitchen area - very unprofessional, something to definitely bring up to your servers attention if you want to keep up with the level of service you are aiming for.

The Front Office staff and Housekeeping team was very nice and friendly on the other hand.

An absolutely stunning hotel in an amazing location. The only reason we haven’t given it 5 Stars overall was the food, the main restaurant is beautiful but the food is average and the breakfast poor. A lot of the guests we spoke to were saying exactly the same thing. I would however return as the location more than made up for the poor dining.

Beautiful rustic

We stayed for 5 nights as a family of 4 with 2 kids in the apartment. The location of the hotel was amazing, high on the mountains with beautiful views and sunsets every evening. The staff are lovely and are very helpful. The place is abit rustic and some things are a bit run down eg baby cot wasn't flat, our air con didn't work the first night (although this was fixed after one day). You definitely need a car to stay here as it is in the middle of nowhere, but once you do have a car, there are lots of charming Italian villages to visit closeby.

Impeccable service in beautiful surroundings

Relais Il Canalicchhio is in a beautiful location overlooking olive groves and mountains with lovely hamlets. Canalicchio is located among the hill towns in central Italy and provides great access to many hill towns in the areas, Gubbio, Spoletto, Orvieto, Cortona, Assisi, to name just a few, all within a short drive. The hotel service could not have been better, in that all questions were answered, every request was taken care of and always with smiles and graciousness. The main villa is absolutely gorgeous with very personal touches. Their motif is seen throughout the villa up to and including etched windows in the dining room, personalized ceramic tiles, hardwood furniture with the monogram, all very lovely and tastefully done. The outside of the estate is meticulously maintained with lush vegetation, and immaculate pool areas. The included buffet breakfast was always pleasing with specialities of the area, while the dinners could not be surpassed. Every night there were different offerings on the multi-course menu and served by a waitstaff that was attentive to your every need. The food, the wine, everything was excellent and served in a panaramic dining room with the perfect ambiance. There are multiple rooms in the villa that include a fireplace sitting area, billiard room and card room, a lounge area filled with artifacts and a bar area that sports a baby grand piano for live music. The main villa is a jewel.

A hotel with an absolutely stunning location. On a hilltop in rural Umbria.
It has a bit of faded glory with much maintenance to be done.
Food good and plenty of it, a little boring by the end of the week.
Reception staff very friendly and helpful, Rachele in particular was lovely.
Be careful what room you book as a village view could be looking at a stone wall. We were in a 1bedroomed apartment in the village resort. It was very roomy with lots of space and being at the end was a great location.

Great, remote hotel

Lovely hotel tucked out in the sticks. It is about 3 miles from a main road up a twisty hillside before you get to the hotel so if you’re planning on excursions then you’ll need a hire car.
The remote location meant many stayed at the hotel so the pools are crowded for their size.
The food in the hotel was ok, but expensive. However, there’s a small restaurant just outside of the hotel which has great food at good prices, you need to book though!

Absolutely wonderful, but funny.

The castle is absolutely beautiful, the staff are great, and uts a freaking castle in the mountains of Italy!
The AC didn't work, luckily the weather was great, but July/august could be rough.
Day trips to Assisi and Orvieto were amazing, but you must have a rental car.
Breakfast was very good.
The spa was good.
The room was small, but the view made up for it.

Relais Il Canalicchio, what a find!

We absolutely loved everything about this hotel! It was incredibly quaint and gorgeous in a fabulous setting. In addition, the location was perfect as we went in both directions (once down the mountain) to visit some of Italy's medieval towns. There was even an ancient chapel! Plus there was a pharmacy and grocery store right at the bottom of the mountain that we used. We highly recommend Relais il Canalicchio!

Great location with on-site dining

We stayed here on our honeymoon and returned this time with our kids. It was perfect for both! The hotel is in a great location for visiting Assisi, Perugia's chocolate factory, Deruta, and the other nearby hilltowns. The pool was a welcome relief on hot afternoons. On our earlier trip, the food was some of the best we had in Italy. On this trip it was very good, but not quite as amazing. But it was well worth the convenience of having the restaurant right there on site. And the value for what we paid for both food and wine was amazing.

Spectacular view, sadly it's obscured by...

Overall good. We had a handful of concerns:

- checked us into what must've been the wrong room, as the \"Valley View\" we'd booked was not visible anywhere.. certainly not from the terrace, which faced into the grounds and not onto the valley. This room 404 was part of a totally separate Villa building, very strange as we had booked to be in the main Castle section and not 5min walk away over a road.

- on querying this at front desk, we were advised to just wait til the morning to check with other staff, as \"there are no other rooms available tonight\".. on pushing back, and asking to speak to management, we were shown straight to an available room (room 1). Didn't appreciate being fibbed to like that, but at least our insistence resulted in a better room (still only a limited View through trees and only accessible on tiny balcony, but definitely an improvement on 404).

- of the 2x pool areas, we only had time to try the one in the Castle. Unfortunately this pool is very crowded, 10-12 people in that small space which in adverts had been shown with just 4 loungers. You are crammed in with lots of other people; sadly there were some loud fellow guests who spent much of the time talking to each other. Not peaceful. There's also a big railing obscuring the view.

- head waiter has habit of pulling up a chair to chat during meals. Not appropriate! Could see fellow guests being made to feel very uncomfortable.

- there's a billiards room, yay! but cues have no tips and table worn.

Fabulous location though away from local amenities. Very relaxing stay. Much has improved since we came 9 years ago. Better maintenance of garden and food improved.
Only down side was music piped to poolside. Why do they do this when people have their own music on phones etc? The same tracks were repeated endlessly...very irritating.

The hotel is quirky, charming and stunningly beautiful. If you want to completely relax and sit and admire a beautiful view go no further. Use of a car is almost essential and although the hotel is off the beaten track, there are good road links to sight seeing opportunities. My only slight negative would be the food. I can only imagine the chef is on a tight budget, which is a tremendous shame. The staff are very good and you are made extremely welcome.You do feel they are really interested in making your stay a very pleasant one.

Greatly exceeded my expectations! Staff rolled out the Red Carpet with a smile! The menu each evening was outstanding, with a variety of main courses, and the service was spot on. Dining on the patio was the place to be with late evening views from our hilltop location of the rolling countryside and stunning sunsets, every night . Breakfast was huge every morning. Fresh EVERYTHING! Quiet peaceful days and quiet restful evenings on a very comfortable bed. The beautiful, clean, swimming pool was a bonus! Terrific Hotel Resort!

Comfortable, relaxing with attentive staff. Breakfast restaurant needs a more efficient and faster toaster and a table tidy on each table for the tea bags. More rustic ( local) bread would be far better than the small tasteless squares offered. Hotel amenities good and the quality of service very good.

The hotel and the surrounds are great with romantic and picturesque views over endless rolling hills and fields. A really nice resort style hotel.
There were only 3 problems:
Towels were not replaced when the room was made.
Internet wi-fi reception in the room was poor.
We really like the place and decided to have dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. The terrace with fantastic views, the sunset and great weather couldn’t compensate disappointment about the food choice (only one set menu), size and quality of the meals. Wouldn’t recommend to dine in the hotel.

Just walk out of the hotel grounds and in front of the hotel gates you will find a small restaurant which turned to be ONE of THE BEST in Europe! It was a real discovery. From house wine, “home-made” style, delicious and generous size meals, warm atmosphere and service to as great views from the terrace.
The hotel and the surrounds are great. Very romantic and picturesque

This is a good 4 star hotel set in the wonderful Umbrian countryside with a great view from the pool, the balcony where meals are served and from the majority of rooms.
The staff were fabulous and made our 2 weeks very enjoyable.
Facilities are good, pool lovely.
Food was good.
Spa facilities are ok too

Good for romantic getaway

Location is very beautiful but a little isolated. Staff is very attentive and personable. Emanuelle is adorable and very sweet. Hotel was empty when we were there so it probably will be more fun further into the season when more people are there and the pool is being used.

We cannot fault the hotel location or the quality of the rooms, although the size of our room was smaller than we had expected. However, we were extremely unhappy with the food. Having been told the food was good, we booked on a half board basis. We then discovered the main chef was not working due to the lack of customers, there being only two rooms occupied on the two nights we were there. That meant there was an extremely limited and uninspiring menu on offer when we went into the dining room. This was particularly irritating because we had seen the menu on display outside the dining room earlier. This looked to be very good but was not the one on offer. Breakfast was also very disappointing compared to other places we stayed, as it was limited and the hot drinks machine was out of order. In addition the bread on offer was terrible, with no prospect of toast. As already indicated, the other facilities in the hotel were good and our room comfortable.

Struttura turistica realizzata in un vecchio borgo una targa indica il 1300, con lo stile classico della zona. Ho trovato scomodo il passaggio scoperto tra il cuore centrale del complesso e la dépendance, da percorrere sotto la pioggia. Comunque molto positivo l'impatto del ponte che domina la piscina, di notte qualche luce in più aiuta a spostarsi in maggior sicurezza. Ristorante panoramico. Stante la presenza di diversi stranieri la padronanza della lingua Inglese potrebbe agevolare alcune situazioni, tipo la cliente che chiede non ci sia aglio nel cibo e le viene consigliato il tagliere degli affettati salvo procedere in tempo alle rettifiche del caso.

vista un po' datato e non tenuto benissimo
non l'abbiamo utilizzato) e un bel terrazzo
che affacciava sul giardino e sulla piscina
La colazione - dolce e salato - ottima.
Abbiamo fatto un aperitivo sulla terrazza
che affaccia sul colle, uno spettacolo
Una piccola pausa assolutamente
rigenerante; è stato un dispiacere dover

Das Resort hat sicherlich wunderbare Zeiten erlebt, doch leider muss man ehrlich sein, dass der Zahn der Zeit nagt. Bad und Kochnische mit nur Minibar Kühlschrank in unserem Apartment sind sanierungsbedürftig. Klimaanlage hat super funktioniert! Größe des Apartments war dem Preis angemessen und bot zudem einen sehr üppigen Balkon mit Poolsicht und Umgebung. Das Sofa war allerdings sehr fleckig.
Der Pool war sehr schön, allerdings die Außendusche müsste saniert werden. Liegen mit Polster waren genügend vorhanden.
Das Frühstück: Die Auswahl am Buffet war sehr bescheiden und zudem meist vergriffen. Spezialitäten der Region gab es leider nicht. Was es gab war lieblos angerichtet. Die Räume sind düster und nicht einladend.

Das Billardzimmer regte nicht zum Spielen an. Ein Spielzimmer für Kinder und Spielplatz gab es auch nicht.

Hoffe es wird zukünftig in das eigentliche Schmuckstück mehr investiert!

Do not recommend it for the service received

Nice location and facilities but real bad service: the room was not properly cleaned and we had to call them again; the key got stuck and could not open the door; the restaurant closed at 14:00 but nobody told us at reception but mislead us into beñieving that we could have lunch there, then it was too late as at 13:45 we we allowed to seat but then we were denied service and no apologies from the staff; the hotel is also clearly understaffed and difficult to find help.

un borgo incantevole, sembra uscito da una fiaba, il personale eccellente e la cura nella preparazione dei pasti, unita al panorama di cui si gode in questa favolosa location per consumare sia cena che colazione con una vista a perdita d'occhio sulle vallate e sui monti circostanti.

Vi havde booket en lejlighed til 3 voksne og et barn. Der kom konsekvent mellem 2 og 3 rene håndklæder pr dag selvom vi dagligt bad om at få til fire. Det tog flere dage og 3 forespørgsler, at få en opfyldning af håndsæbe på badeværelset. Vi oplevede flere gange at løbe tør for toiletpapir.
Når det er sagt, var lejligheden super fin og de 2 pools var så fine.
God morgenmad med et fint udvalg.
Det eneste ærgelige, var hotellets restaurant til aften, ikke levede op til vores forventninger, vores vurdering er dyr og kedelig mad. Der er 5 km til de nærmeste restauranter, men vi opgav efter 1 besøg og skiftedes istedet til at køre hjem.

Nice hotel in a quiet and very beautiful setting

We stayed for the third time in this really nice hotel. This time we upgraded to a room with a terrazzo for 3 nights and loved it!
The staff is very nice and helpful, but we arrived in October and the hotel closes down for the winter, so we were only few guests there and had a feeling of “closing down”. The restaurant was not worth the money this time - but we’ve had nice food there before. Breakfast is ok - not fantastic.
We will come back!

Varning! Bo inte här!

Vi bodde här i 4 nätter och återvänder aldrig! Redan när vi checkade in började problemen, vi hade bokat ett deluxrum med terass. Terrasserna låg utan avgränsning till övriga rum i gassande sol (var 37 grader i skuggan när vi var här) utan tillgång till skugga eller parasoll. Vi frågade om vi kunde byta rum eller t.o.m. nedgradera vårt rum för att få lite privat space. Efter mycket om och men löstes detta och vi fick ett classic rum med löfte om att uppgraderas till samma rum igen om någon dag då det fanns lediga rum med bättre terass detta löfte hölls dock aldrig.

Poolområdet är slitet och trist och det finns bara 2 parasoll!! Gick inte att vara i poolområdet om du inte lyckades få ett av dessa parasoll. Blev olidligt varmt. Poolhanddukarna kostar 2 euro/dag per person att låna. Något som inte informerades vid incheckning.

Restaurangen har god mat och trevlig personal, trevligast var den unge killen i baren. Eloge till honom. Dock vimlar det av getingar och du sitter på stålstolar utan dynor. En kväll var restaurangen abonnerad och då glömdes vi gäster bort och kunde inte ens få sitta utomhus på terassen och äta utan endast i den trista restaurangdelen inomhus utan fönster.

Engångs plastmuggar, sugrör i plast mm känns omodernt och miljötänket är obefintligt.

Managern är ung och orutinerad och beklagade sig hur mycket jobb hon hade på hotellet. Att lösa saker för gästerna var inget hon prioriterade. Oproffsig och otrevlig!

la struttura si trova all'interno di un borgo medioevale meraviglioso. Le camere sono spaziose ma necessitano di alcuni elementi che le renderebbero più confortevoli come armadi più spaziosi o arredi per poter appoggiare valige e indumenti. Elemento assolutamente da considerare è l'impianto di condizionamento non funzionante in modo idoneo, per cui la struttura è da evitare nei mesi molto caldi poiché le camere sono roventi. la piscina necessita di manutenzione sia ordinaria con pulizia periodica che purtroppo durante la nostra permanenza non è stata proprio effettuata sia ordinaria visto che si sta proprio sgretolando. Il giardino adiacente è pieno di mozziconi di sigarette e con prato non curato. Basterebbe davvero poco per rendere la permanenza meravigliosa.

Il punto forte è sicuramente la location, su una collina, nel verde. Magnifico paesaggio e magnifica struttura (vecchio castello). Il punto debole la vetustà della struttura, che andrebbe rinnovata e riabbellita con qualche tocco di modernità. Molto buona la colazione, molto gentili i dipendenti

Ho soggiornato presso il Relais il Canalicchio ad Agosto è stato davvero un soggiorno incantato per il paesaggio in questo borgo medievale. La stanza e bagno un po’ trascurati non adatte a chi è allergico. Colazione e la Ristorazione (abbiamo cenato 2 sere😒) non all’altezza per le stelle.

La struttura è molto bella e tranquilla, però le camere non vengono pulite, ma solo sistemate, il wi-fi non prende quasi mai, e non arriva in tutte le camere, inoltre la colazione è stata davvero deludente, oltre al fatto che non era ben fornita e di qualità, ci hanno messo a conto due tost che abbiamo preso a colazione per ben 14 euro, e ci volevano far pagare la colazione salata, che invece era compresa nel prezzo (cominque i tost ce li hanno fatti pagare). e alla fine quando abbiamo fatto i conti, ci avevano addebitato anche le spese di altre stanze.
siamo rimasti molto delusi.
