We had a pleasant stay. Our room (a superior double) is spacious. We particularly like the courtyard setting of the swimming pool and breakfast area. The reception was helpful, and you can custom order eggs for breakfast apart from what's in the buffet area. While it's initially a bit difficult to drive to the hotel because of many one-way streets, once you know the area, it's not that bad. The hotel is in a good location, just next to the cable car and outside the old town.

Clean, kind, cramped but did the job.

This hotel was nice, clean, right across from shopping and about 2 blocks from the pretty touristy part of town. Unfortunately we walked the wrong way and were quite afraid in this city. I’m sure summer is prettier but all we saw was power lines and dirty streets. The hotel is in a safer area….but barely. The room was also extremely cramped. I know rooms in Europe are small but this one just seemed uncomfortable. The hotel staff were kind. We just don’t want to go to Bolzano again. It’s more industrial than I thought. Next time I’d stay in a pretty house on the hillside rather than in the city.

The ONLY hotel not to provide a COVID-19 refund or

This was the ONLY hotel that did not offer a refund or credit for future stays during the COVID-19 closure of Italy / the world for travel. Airbnb gave 100% cash refunds and other hotel.com properties offered either a refund or a credit for future stays. Stiegl Scala Hotel however charged my credit card after the Italian Government placed Italy into lock down. Hotel.com was unable to resolve this issue.

Wonderful hotel

Very nice hotel situated about ten minute walk from Piazza Walther. Right near the cable car up to the mountain for 15 Euro with train ride at the top.

Will definitely stay here again if I am back in town.

The rooms at this hotel are comfortable. The bathroom was a good size, with a nice shower. The bed was comfortable and the hotel quiet. There is a lovely courtyard off the breakfast area.
The staff seemed confused by our booking and tried to charge us for the room even though we had paid through Expedia. We had to tell her twice that we had already paid. In the end it worked out fine but I am glad that we had printed out our confirmation.

THE ONLY choice in Bolzano!!!

In real estate they say location is everything, if that is true of hotels, well then, this is the big lewinski! I cannot believe there is a better located hotel in all of Bolzano. This coupled with the beautiful property, abundant free parking, an amazing breakfast (along with a genuinely friendly, courteous and helpful staff), world class reception, wonderful memory foam matress and just right pillows in a truly tasteful room - WOW! We were traveling from Munich to Venice and this seemed like a great stopover because of the cable car (first one ever BTW, invented here in 1908!) and the fun little train on top of the mountain - but it turned out to be one of our favorite destinations of this trip. The hotel is literally a 3 minute walk to the cable car and a 10 minute walk to old town and all the shopping. So we parked (choice of 3 lots, 2 free, UG is $11) , checked in, was wowed by the room, and then went to the cable car. We spent a few hours on the mountain top and then returned to town. We were fortunate that we found an amazing restaurant (I will review it) and then went back to the room for a wonderful nights sleep. The room was quiet, comfortable and had a great shower with lots of pressure and an abundance of hot water. After a restful nights sleep we awoke to a grand breakfast. Everything was available and fresh, hot/cold, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit.... and cooked to order eggs. Out of room here... shame I cannot write more!

They pride themselves as a 4 star establishment but the quality of the service was not four star. While we were there daylight saving changed over but the hotel clocks did not change and the hotel did not tell the residents. It took four attempts to order a taxi and we were on the verge of walking in the rain for a 1km trip.

Lovely, reasonable hotel near to most everything

While this hotel is not in the very center of town, it is certainly walkable to most things you would want to do. Very close to the wonderful cable car and also to the train station. Rooms were very clean and beds were comfortable. Breakfast very good.

Nice hotel, lousy neighborhood. Few services.

The hotel was clean and comfortable beds. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon. We tried to find any place we could nearby open to eat. There was nothing except a Japanese ramen place nearby. The entire area around the hotel seemed to close down and appeared empty after 5 pm.
We ate at the hotel but would have preferred to get out and try some of the local eateries. The neighborhood is covered with graffiti and I felt on heightened alertness when we were out.
Overall a little disappointed with the overall experience. I would try to find some place better situated next time.

Easy walk to train station, river, old town

The location of Scala Hotel Stiegl was fantastic if you want to be away from the train station atmosphere but still close to the old town. The hotel is grand and has a pool and lovely patio under the trees for outdoor breakfast, dining and drinks. The buffet breakfast is wonderful especially the selection of pastries. The room was very clean, great wifi, dog-friendly, and the only place we stayed where there is air conditioning and it works! My room had a beautiful view over the rooftops to the mountains.

Overall strong with some odd notes...

My first time in Bolzano and I just picked by price on Expedia. The outside of the building reminds one of The Grand Budapest Hotel and I was a little worried...the lobby and lounge are mid-century but thankfully the rooms are modern, clean, and convenient. Kind of a mixed aesthetic. Decent European breakfast in a room that maintains the old Tyrolean traditions. What I found odd was the incredible tension among the staff. The man who appears to live at the front desk needs to find a job that suits his poetic nature better...he seemed very tense and unhappy. The breakfast room staff snapped at each other about how the tablecloths were folded. I think this is an example where the Austrian/Italian marriage of the city seems to need a little counseling. If you're only going to be using the rooms to sleep and change, this is a good place, quiet and clean and cozy. Just don't plan to hang around much.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. It was about a fifteen minute walk to the main shopping area and Christmas market. Lots of shopping and very festive market that I would highly recommend. We were able to park for free by parking on the road out front. We would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the train station. We were fine to have one rolling luggage each, walking the street. If you have more, you may want a taxi. It is also relatively close to the main tourist area (another 10 minute walk). This meant the hotel location is quiet and peaceful. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was also great. There was a really good selection for breakfast, and the staff were friendly.

I had an extremely frustrating experience finding the parking lot -- ended up taking a 30 minute drive on very narrow winding streets because the directions I received at the front desk were confusing. Luckily, I had GPS or I don't know how long it would have taken me to find the hotel again. I wanted to speak to the manager and was first told his schedule was erratic and then that he wasn't in when he actually was at the hotel. When I did get to speak to him, he blamed me for stupid reasons -- like, if I understood Italian culture or how to drive in Italy, I would have backed up on the narrow crowded street rather than trying to go around the block to try again to find the parking lot entrance. When I suggested they prepare a small paper map to show clients exactly how to find the parking lot, he told me that was something Americans would do and Italians would not. None of this was in a friendly or accommodating tone. The experience at Stiegl Scala was the only real unpleasantness I had in a blissful 2 week Italian road trip.

Spent 4 nights at this hotel. I think I got one of the recently rooms; it was super modern and new looking. A friend was in a less renovated room; apparently the air conditioning did not work well in his room. The room was perfect; the only thing that would have made it nicer was an in room coffee maker. Breakfast was decent but I've had better in italy. I learned only the last day that you can order eggs. I wish I had known that sooner because I don't eat meat or dairy and since I was hiking every day I needed some protein. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It was in a very convenient location, just around the corner from one of the funiculars.

Despite being in a first floor room that overlooked the street, there was no sound that disturbed me on a Friday night. The windows seal well. The biggest problem for this hotel is parking - there's not a lot of it. Otherwise, fantastic value for money and nothing to complain about.

A gem in Bolzano

Great hotel close to Bolzano city center. The pool area is excellent to relax by after a day with activities. Breakfast with a solid selection (especially for those that enjoy sweets). Schönes Hotel, vom Bahnhof fußläufig zu erreichen. Ebenso kurzer Weg in die Innenstadt.
Wir hatten ein Familienzimmer, in der Mitte liegendes Bad und je 1 Zimmer rechts und links, Elternschlafzimmer mit Balkon und Blick zum Garten, Kinderzimmer mit Stockbett (ausgeklappt).
Prima Service, das obere Bett quietschte unerträglich, wurde umgehend behoben. Sehr guter Frühstücksservice, Kaffee und Eier werden serviert, generell prima Auswahl und nette Kellnerin(en).
Der Pool ist leicht geheizt, sodass man ihn auch jetzt noch nutzen konnte, tolle Größe, nur die Ecke am flacheren Teil, die unter Wasser liegt ist etwas gefährlich.

Vi havde bestilt et værelse med udsigt til haven, men fik et værelse med udsigt til gaden. I bekræftelsen fra hotel.com stod der ellers at der var et værelse med udsigt til haven. Det kunn re ceptionisten ikke forstå eftersom vi havde bestilt et “superior” dobbeltværelse og ingen af dem, har have-udsigt.

Sehr schönes Ambiente und überaus freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Frühstück ist top mit reichlich Auswahl und alles ganz frisch. Schön wäre ein Kaffeeautomat, an dem man sich selbst den Kaffee ziehen kann. Auch die Lage des Hotels ist super, fast direkt in der Altstadt. Ein Auto benötigt man nicht. Die Zimmerausstattung entspricht nicht unbedingt einem 4-Sterne-Standard, die Matratzen schon arg durchgelegen. Insgesamt jedoch Daumen hoch, uns hat es sehr gut gefallen.

Mas para um hotel 4 estrelas a cama foi bem desconfortável, além do mobiliário ser ultrapassado e o quarto ter carpete. O colchão afundava demais. Eu e meu marido dormimos em um buraco. Pedi pra trocar de quarto e não fui atendida. Não houve Boa vontade nenhuma. Dormimos três noites mal. Fiquei em 3 hotéis 4 estrelas antes desse na mesma viagem, para todos eu dei 5 estrelas na avaliação. Na minha opinião 3 estrelas é o máximo pra esse hotel.

Hyggeligt hotel med god beliggende (meget tæt på kabelbanen) Gode parkeringsforhold. Pool med liggestole - det var lækkert på en dag med 32 grader. Stort badeværelse og gode senge. Eneste minus var at vi havde booket værelse med husligt til haven. Det første vi så var taget til restauranten.
