They are renovating, so hopefully things will get better. However. Our toilet wouldn’t flush properly nor did it look clean. Bathtub also was dirty. No place to plug in your phone by the bed, No clock. The second room that we had, the air conditioning wasn’t working. Not a good experience.
~The staff for check-in was kind and friendly, but she needed some help. We waited to check in for 30mins!

We stayed on the third floor where the fire systems was disabled and room was not finished for their remodeling. very hazardous! My cousins works for the town and she said the hotel was warned not to rent third floor rooms until the fire alams and sprinklers were operattional. Ants on the bathroom floor,There was not AC outlet by the headboard. the TV was poorly mounted and not plugged in to the satellite receiver and was about to fall off the wall. no battery in fire sensor, melted toilet seat and tv was about to pull off the wall, improperly installed, no studs, very dangerous.

Recently remodeled rooms are a disaster. Caulk everywhere in bathtub. Screw holes, random unfinished pieces of metal sticking out. Paint on the cheap door. The elevator doesn’t go to the second floor. The lobby has a giant piece of plywood dividing it. Just an absolute mess.

Pool is open during renovation. The hotel is doing a renovation so there’s a lot torn down. Breakfast is served in the lobby because of the renovation. And it’s probably good thing that it’s having a renovation. Much of the carpets are torn in the hallway but not dirty looking. Just dated and they have very nice things coming in.

They have a very cool circle fireplace seating area on the second floor. Staff was very kind and helpful.

Toilet was so low I nearly fell in & the seat was peeling. The facility is remodeling, looks very haphazard. I pushed the luggage cart to my room over wrinkly carpet, made for a difficult push.

Transferred rooms: first had large hole in bathroom wall and loud clunking fan. Second room had a used tobacco chew plug on sink counter. Took a picture and sent to management...received a brief thank you. Hotel is also under major reno so limited rooms according to staff. Breakfast in lobby with limited seating.

Staff was nice. Breakfast was good. I was not aware of renovations being done when I booked. Our room was at the end of a hallway and most rooms before ours were being remodeled and doors, walls, dust and other things were in the hallway. Our bathroom was gross, with microbial growth on the ceilings, door did not close. It would have been very difficult for my handicapped dad to go back down to leave to find another hotel. My daughter was sleeping in one of the top bunks, rolled over and hit the rail that literally cracked, broke and fell down. It was so loud, I thought she fell off the top bunk. If I would have known about our room status and location, I would have asked for two normal rooms on the side already renovated, if that existed. It could be a nice place, close to Mesa Verde NP.

Was a nice hotel for my family of 4 kids my room came with a bunk bed set of 4 beds and a king size bed so it worked out perfectly. My kids loved that it had a ps3 and a tv just for the kids to play on. The only downside was the hotels upkeep was not very good. The jet for the hot tub was not working.

The bed was extremely comfortable! Front desk staff was wonderful and breakfast was standard. Otherwise the hotel is quite in need of renovations. There are signs all over the hotel saying that they are undergoing renovations. We saw no sign of that happening yet, but it’s possible that they will be doing so in the near future? Microwave in room didn’t work and remote didn’t work for tv to turn on and off but we figured it out with buttons on side of tv.

The staff was great! We had booked one night through Cheap Tickets and needed to add on another night, but there were no rooms available on CT. So I called and the girl at that desk was able to do a separate reservation and made sure the rest of the staff new we had two different reservations but were the same ppl. The room was very clean and it looks like they tried to do a renovation as the counter and shower stall had granite, but the tile floor was old and out dated. Also - there must have been flooding from the room above because the ceiling looked like it had lots of water damage - dry wall needs redone. The AC worked great and the room was very clean. It was really noisy at night. You could hear all steps of the people above us. The breakfast was EXCELLENT. There were all kinds of options. Great protein choices. One day it was scrambled eggs and sausage links. The next day was cheese omelets and bacon. Of course there were also other options like cereal, oatmeal, bagels, pancakes, etc. Overall, I would stay here again.

Wonderful Stay – Great Staff & Family-Friendly Experience

We had an amazing stay at Holiday Inn Express Cortez during our road trip, and I truly can’t recommend it enough.

The staff was fantastic throughout — attentive, kind, and always willing to help. We were traveling with our 5-month-old baby, and they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. A special shoutout to the front desk staff at check-in — especially the Indian gentleman who welcomed us. He was incredibly helpful, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed, including an extra bed for our baby. That kind of care really stood out.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we loved that the hot bath was available until midnight — it was a perfect way to relax after a long day of travel and exploring.

Breakfast was also great overall. The Day 2 breakfast server deserves a big shoutout — she was proactive, kept everything clean and well-stocked, and made the morning feel welcoming. However, the Day 1 breakfast server seemed visibly irritated even with basic requests like refilling the pancake mix — a small hiccup in an otherwise fantastic experience.

Every interaction with the front desk during our stay was pleasant and helpful. The team here really understands hospitality.

We will absolutely stay here again if we’re ever in the area. Highly recommended for families and travelers alike!

When I checked in the bedsheets had black stains on three areas. There were two long hairs on the bedsheets. Wax like stains in the carpet, bed sham and chair. Long mirror in room had spots all on the bottom of the mirror.

This was a pretty run down Holiday Inn Express. It wasn’t up to the normal standards we have come to expect from this hotel chain. The towels felt super old and scratchy to use. The whole place was a little dated and dirty. The breakfast wasn’t kept stocked and the pancake maker was broken. We were pretty disappointed with the lower quality of this location. We would not stay here again.

Not exaggerating. This was one of the best hotel stays we have had. We actually wished we could have stayed longer. The lobby is stunning with southwest decor and had two elegant side staircases meeting overhead. Our room had the same decor and even had a little curtained off area with bunkbeds. The staff were polite and helpful. With a 15 minute drive to the Mesa Verde Park entrance it was an amazing find considering the value and price.

Great location - the planned update is needed.
This hotel is conveniently located and offers breakfast (although it was stripped bare by the time we got there).
PROS:
-Fairly comfortable beds
-Passable blackout curtains
-Indoor pool area open late (and separate from main hotel)

CONS:
-Carpeting is in need of replacement
-large stone shelf in shower is at just the right level to konk you in the head if you're not careful stepping in

Appears to me to be a repurposed property, but in pretty good shape. Not everything works as it should. Went out the back door to practice my instrument and the re-entry lock didn't work (broken), nor did the door lock at the door into the pool area. Walked around the building and got in (probably needed the walk), but still...
Breakfast was pretty good, but the breakfast attendant was not particularly attentive to whether items were available.
Don't close the place down, but step up a bit if you want top marks.

Room was clean but had other issues not associated to cleanliness. The bathroom sink drained slowly and would fill up. TV didn't work well. It would constantly freeze up and buffer. Screen in room was broke and wouldn't shut properly. Was able to move to another room for our final night and that room was fine.
